Its kinda a hit & miss with this place, I think depending on who is cooking that day/night reflects the quality of food you're gonna get. Things you should try: You cant go wrong with the bread sticks. They are fresh & hot out of the oven. If you are gonna order them, I suggest you ask for the cheese dip to come along with it. The pizza's are OKAY, I mean, its good for "Michigan standards" I guess but thats my opinion after having NY & Chicago pizza. If you do go, I suggest you order the Gus' favorite. Well it took about 5 minutes for a server to ask for drinks. It wasn't too busy and she wasn't nice about it either but I let it slide. I ordered a side Caesar salad that barely had dressing on it. Also, had the breadsticks that were not great. If you have blood pressure issues don't get these! Way too much salt. My Alfredo pasta was awful. Overcooked. The Alfredo sauce was not Alfredo. It almost tasted bitter. Our server never checked on us or asked if we needed anything. Also, when we were done with our food she just brought the check and never asked about dessert. Ha! Well we have been here 6 times so I better write my own review already! It's always good, so is the service. Every meal that anyone in our group has had is top notch! As well as any Carry outs we have ordered. The breadsticks are a meal by themselves, but are most excellent with your meal to get every last drop off your plate! YES it IS that Good!! The meatballs are tender and tasty, the pasta and every sauce or gravy has been exceptionally done, the Stromboli is excellent every time, so are the house specials and favorites! Above average family dining, with large portions across the board. There were enough minor annoyances to have me leave the rating here. The kids menu needs at least two more options, and one of them needs to be on the non-breaded healthy side. The descriptions could be a little clearer on what comes with the appetizer. The spinach dip comes with carrots, celery, AND bread as just one example. And for a menu as heavy on pizza and pasta, in today's environment, why are there no gluten-free options? Overall, we will probably be back when we want a sit-down option while visiting the outlets. But we will definitely be asking more questions of the menu. read more

I have been here a few times with varying family members and friends. Each time, there has been a significant wait. I have never gone here and not waited, which is kind of frustrating and why this place only gets a 4/5. I was reading a few reviews and many people seem to have hit or miss service. I have been here a number of times and the service has always been wonderful even when I have brought my sister (who I swear has signs of her up at restaurants warning them about her). I don't normally go to crazy when I order here. I have always gotten the pizza, breadsticks, and of course the cheese dip. The cheese dip is out of this world. It is like a cheddar, cream cheese, and garlic spread which is to die for. I always find the pizzas to be really good. Some of my other family members have gotten salads and varying pasta dishes and seemed pleased with them as well. Drinks seem to be a touch high, but not ridiculous. Part of my complaints about Tomato brothers is that I wish they had a gluten-free pizza crust for my partner so I could go here more often. Remember people, call-ahead and try to get a reservation or else you could be waiting a while. read more

The bread sticks are crazy good! Love, love, love the Stromboli. Have not had the pizza yet but seeing so many delivered to tables around us I can only imagine they are divine also! Today my coworker and I ordered carryout from here. I waited 10 mins at the bar before I was acknowledged by the harried barmaid. She asked me "what kind of pops did you have?" (The receipts didn't specify what kind of pop) I replied "a Pepsi and a Mountain Dew" She said, "well, we only have Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, and water for to go orders, I don't know who took your order...but they were wrong. This particular time, I found myself at Tomato Brothers for lunch after burning off some serious calories shopping at Tanger Outlets. Proven fact: there is no better way to reenergize yourself (or put yourself into a food coma) than Tomato Brother's pizza, Greek salad and bread sticks. At Tomato Brothers, a small Greek salad (which fed two of us) was $5.95, large pizza with two toppings around $15 and the breadsticks came with the meal. They have a great drink menu with some Michigan craft beer options and a huge bar to belly up at. My family and I have been going to Highland House and Tomato Brothers for as long as I can remember. Simply because both restaurants give off the family feel that allows for the development of tradition. Honestly, the vibe doesn't matter because as soon as they lay a basket of their famous hand-rolled breadsticks in front of you (sidenote: you must order the cheese dip to lather the buttery stix in), you won't care about where you are. We live less than a mile from Tomato Bros, but we shockingly don't go that often. Their food and wine selections are all very good. I've had a number of the pasta dishes and was always pleased. Their bread sticks, are of course, always to die for. For about a month straight, my fiance was obsessed with their apple chicken salad. Fresh lettuce, enough chicken to last through the dish, and garnished with freshly cut apples (no oxidized fruit here) and tender cranberries - all with a delicious poppy seed dressing. Probably the first thing we'll order when we go back. While the staff and menu are all acceptable, we just aren't overly excited to keep going back. It is good once in a while, but it isn't at the top of our list for a quick dinner out or a gathering with friends. read more

I have only been to this restaurant once and I still dream about and drool over their Chicken Picatta and wonderful bread sticks. I hopefully will get back up to Howell some time in the future. I attended a work dinner party for 11 people +1 child during dinner rush hour at this established establishment. I've been here many times. The county courts and jail are near by. Lots of rat penis lawyers eat here. If you come into town for court and you might be going to jail then this is the place for your last meal. The wait for 12 didn't take as long as expected. The place was packed like a bag of bread sticks. I say that because there is a man named Gus who is legendary for his bread sticks.  He's built incredible restaurants and pizzarias around the area from the grindstone up with his bare hands covered in flour for 40 years. Gus's breadsticks are so famous he even named a pizzeria chain after them. Gus's. We were greated with baskets of hot bread sticks. We ate them like pigs. We even used them to shut the kid up. The ranch and marinara for dipping were incredible. They must have been made from scatch by Mrs. Gus in the back. We eventually ordered after we were done waiting on the vegan to decide.  Our poor waitress had to come back 3 times because the vegan couldn't find steamed vegtibles on the large menu. I normally order the white fettuccine Alfredo with grilled chicken mushrooms and broccoli. It is to die for. Mrs. Gus must have smuggled the recipe out of her home country and brought it to Michigan. But tonight I tried the Steak Marsala. While waiting for our food I snuck a lemon chicken wing from the brat during an outburst. It was very good and it shut the kid up again with a little more ranch. The food came and the garlic mashed potatoes were perfect along with the vegtibles that I caught the vegan eyeballing. I secretly believe it could have been my steak. The child smiled with joy as she ate her carrots. Mr. McMullen enjoyed his side salad that came with his salad. The table became overcome with oinks, snorts and squeals as we ate. Mr. Gus came and paid a visit to our table for some nice conversation about the restaurants history. I noticed a dressed up biker enjoying his meatballs wearing some WiFi looking ankle bracelet. Ms. Cox got steak and didn't ask for it properly so she got it a little hard. My steak was juicy and pink in the middle. I ate it like a Walker eating a 3 year old.  Which we did have one available if a Walker came in to eat. I can't tell you about everyone's experience. They where at the other end of the table. I know the Vegan enjoyed her fish and ranch isn't enough to stop a threenager from going postal when she was told about getting ice cream but can't have it now. Gus came running from the back with a beautiful desert dish of italian rice pudding and whipped cream to sooth the child. It worked wonderfully for 2 minutes till she discovered it wasn't ice cream. Then this reviewer had to leave. This place is a must go though. I give 5 out of 5 breadsticks. read more

Think Olive Garden without the salty bread sticks. Now I will be fair and say their bread is actually really good, but I don't go to restaurants to eat just bread. I had their steak which wasn't cooked to order and I was too frustrated and sent it back anyways. It came back still not done well enough. It's a risk I take for ordering well done meat. However, I believe that if a place says it can cook to order it should be able to meet the customer's request. I had a side of oily carrots, that were far from "vegetable side". They were literally just carrot slices dipped in olive oil. No taste whatsoever. I'm giving it three starts because other people in the party seemed to enjoy their food. I wish they would have more specials and change up the menu from time to time. But that's not what this chain is about. One thing I've never liked about Tomato Bros and its sister restaurant, Highland House, is the low ceiling. I had a friend in town from Austin visiting me and it was her last day and we wanted to grab lunch before she left. Since I have only lived in Howell for a short time and she asked me where to go, I had no idea really for lunch, (I work in Southfield) so I told her I had no idea besides all of the fast food places and Applebee's that I see on Grand River. HA! (Did I mention that she is an Executive Pastry Chef at a very high-end restaurant in Austin?) Talk about putting me on the spot. lol So, of course we Googled and she said what about this place? And that is how we ended up at Tomato Brothers. This place is not bad per se, we were both just very underwhelmed. I ordered their homemade minestrone soup and it was bland and watery. It tasted like a bland veggie soup to me, not a nice Italian minestrone soup. I also ordered the small Greek salad which was just very basic and after living in the Metro-Detroit area for 14 years, I've had some incredible Greek food so maybe it's not fair of me to judge by comparison. And the bread was just OK. My friend ordered the special. I think it was a gyro sandwich or something? Is this a Greek place? I guess I don't understand what type of restaurant this is supposed to be? Italian? Greek? Either way the Greek food nor the minestrone soup and bread impressed us. Overall, I'd say this place was just average. Perhaps I'll have to go back for dinner and give it another try but nothing about it makes me really want to go back sadly. The waitress lacked any kind of personality at all and made no suggestions even when we told her it was our first time there. Perhaps that would have changed our minds on the place, who knows? Maybe we just ordered badly. It's possible I could end up here again since our options in Howell are pretty limited. But, I will say that I have found a few other unexpected gems and this just wasn't one of them for me unfortunately. read more

We just had dinner here last Tuesday, our waiter was Gary. He was quick with our order and all around great server! The breadsticks are the best we've ever had in our life. They're warm, slightly salty, with just the right amount of garlic flavor. I'm pretty sure they're homemade as you could taste that great yeasty flavor in the middle. We ordered, Lasagna and Caeser Salad. The Lasagna was homemade and delicioius! The Salad was HUGE with grilled chicken breast, feta cheese, beets, the works! Hadn't been to Tomato Brothers in a long time, went today with a friend for lunch. Server brought the basket of breadsticks before the meal and my friend asked for a side of ranch dressing to dip the bread in. Server returned with a small bowl of dressing, maybe 1/2 cup, which was more than enough. My friend ordered one of the specialty salads and I got planked whitefish. My friend told the server that she'd like to order the fish and chips dinner to go when we finished lunch. So far, so good. The food was good, no problem there. When the server brought the bill and we looked it over, we saw that we'd been charged $1.50 for the side of ranch dressing. I gave the server my credit card and told her to remove the charge for extra dressing because it is not reasonable to charge for dressing on top of a $30 tab. Server looked like a deer in the headlights, so I said I'd be happy to speak with the manager about it. At that point my friend reminded the server about the fish and chips take out. The server replied, "Well, we're on dinner hours now, just so you know." In other words, our lunch ended after the deadline for lunch prices and the higher dinner prices were now in effect. The fish and chips to go that she'd told the server about when we arrived was now going to cost an additional $3. The server disappeared and a manager appeared at our table shortly. He said not to worry, he'd removed the $1.50 charge for a side of dressing, but only because the menu doesn't yet indicate the charge, although the menus are going to be revised. I told him it isn't reasonable to charge for extra dressing. He said, "Do you think it doesn't cost me money to give out all that dressing? Do you think I should just supply it to every table?" I replied, "So then if someone orders a salad and asks for extra dressing, you charge them for it?" He said, "Of course not!" I said, "Well, my friend had a salad for lunch. Why is there a charge for the dressing just because she used it for her bread, not her salad?" He seemed flustered, but stuck with, "Well, it doesn't matter because I took it off your bill. But everywhere I go now they charge for extra dressing so it's nothing unusual." I told him he must be eating at the wrong places, because it's never happened to me. And when two customers just spend over $40 in his restaurant, it's pretty poor form to nickel and dime them with a $1.50 extra salad dressing charge. Nobody got nasty with anybody, but it was obvious that the manager felt he'd done us a big favor removing the charge "because it isn't indicated on the menu." Forget you, Tomato Brothers. There are too many other places to eat in town to tolerate that kind of chicken poo service. read more

Even though It's frustrating that the Afternoon/evening female bartender seems annoyed(and is rude) to have to do togo orders for breadsticks, even when they are getting 100% tip, I still love the place. Get the middle age brunette to lighten up or get rid of her. Regardless of how terrible of customer service this Bartender gives, I Will come back no matter what because of the food and the rest of the staff. Take a friend, maybe two, and split everything! Very filling. I had dinner with a party of 8 on a Thursday, and I don't think anyone was disappointed with their meal. We started with Calamari and Spinach Artichoke Dip- I don't eat Calamari but they add a sauteed pepper mix that was good on the side, the Dip was heavy on the cream cheese but I'm that kinda girl. After the apps, out came the massive salads- the Caeser dressing is amazing, and everyone seemed impressed with their Garden as well. BUT, like I said, massive. Entrees were also huge, and good. I heard the lasagna was standard issue, I had the fettucine alfredo with blackened chicken ( I had enough room left in my stomach for about 5 bites of it-but those 5 bites were lovely). One fella had the spaghetti with meatball, which might as well have been a 5 gallon bucket with a 1lb meat loaf...he enjoyed what he could get down. Whitefish, swordfish, and something else chicken all went over pretty well with our crowd. Overall, great place, it was busy, the drinks, like the lasagna were standard issue but it's not advertised as a bar.
