We just heard so much fuzz about this Restaurant that we came to dinner for the first time, we are coming from California. Lovely location, and the idea of having the Tommy boutique inside the Restaurant was fantastic, so many temptations and pretty little things to buy. About our dinner, attention to detail, and customer service were Superb! We felt so welcoming at all times. But the star of the review wasn't the food, drinks were beautifully presented, but too sweet... our dishes were ok but we just were expecting an amazing flavor and unfortunately weren't there. We really enjoyed this restaurant. My guy definitely gave it a 5 out 5! Our server, John, was a class act and is definitely a model to his colleagues! For drinks we ordered the classic mojito and the raspberry jalapeño Paloma, they were both good... the Paloma was extra spicy, which I loved. Our dinner entrees were ribeye and coconut shrimp! I love coconut shrimp and this place didn't disappoint me. My date had the ribeye and it was delicious as well. So much so, I kept eating his! My dish was served with almond rice and coleslaw, both I wasn't interested in having, but after trying them, they weren't bad at all. The rice was unique and the coleslaw wasn't drowned in mayonnaise yet had a different flavored that I somehow enjoyed. I put my name down on the waiting list on a Friday afternoon, and we were seated 30 minutes later. I thought the restaurant might feel a little comercial, but I was very wrong! The outdoor patio was shaded and surrounded by palm trees, and the interior had a modern, tropical vibe. For my entree, I ordered the filet mignon tacos. The combination of homemade tortillas, guac, corn, fresh cheese, and medium rare steak made for some of the best steak tacos I've had! The dessert, of course, was love at first bite. The customer service was also exceptional, and we ended up stopping by a secluded beach our server recommend later that day. I have eaten at the Tommy Bahama restaurants in Newport Beach, CA and Jupiter, FL and had excellent food at both. I almost cancelled my reservations based on some of the very low ratings on Yelp for this location. Thank goodness we didn't, because Greg our waiter was welcoming, entertaining, and knowledgable about the food and drinks he was serving. He brought us a complimentary appetizer with a beautiful presentation on sliced cucumbers with whipped local goat cheese and tomatoes, superb! And I don't normally like goat cheese. My teen daughters ordered the chicken sandwich which came with a spicy ailoli, and a side of fries. Our waiter was kind enough to have it split for them. They said it was cooked perfectly and they liked the sauce that came with it. I ordered two Happy Hours items: Mahi Mahi Tacos and the Grapefruit Basil Martini which Greg recommended. The Mahi Mahi Tacos were some of the best I have ever had, and I think it's because they are charred there. Used the lime to add a little lime on top, and they were perfect! Grapefruit Basil Martini was refreshing and packed a punch, think i needed to eat a little more food with that cocktail. :) Overall, I would come back in a heartbeat, we were seated outside on a patio lanai overlooking beautiful trees at the top floor of the Shops at Wailea. Did a walk in with 4 of us. We had an app with goat cheese, corn, etc. - good mix of flavors. The bungalow salad was a good size and easy to share with a good mix of tastes. A tortilla soup was done as a meal for one of us - well blended flavors. Main meals for all others included seasonal menu selection of Macadamia Encrusted Mahi-Mahi and main menu selection of Chilean Sea Bass - fish was very tasty but veggies could have been a bit crisper and cut better for both dishes - advice from the culinary grad in our group. My fiancé and I came by Tommy Bahama after hearing from a friend that their happy hour is pretty good, and we were intrigued by the fact that we might be eating right next to a rack of clothes, heh. We arrived on a Friday around 4pm after being at Ulua Beach closeby, and were surprised to find no line or wait. On first impression, the atmosphere is really pretty and breezy with its open air windows and wood paneling. But it kind of feels too polished, like not necessarily authentic, but definitely cookie-cutter Hawaiian (which some people would probably really like). We ordered the happy hour sangria & mai tais, which were tasty and reasonably priced at $8 each. What was super disappointing were the happy hour snack portions! We ordered the Island Wings ($10) and it literally came with FOUR WINGS. Then we got the World Famous Coconut Shrimp (also $10) and it legit had THREE SHRIMP LOL. Maybe our expectations were too high after going to Monkeypod's HH just up the street a day before? Maybe this place is too manicured & bougie for us (we much prefer the vibes over at Nalu's South Shore in Kihei for happy hour with no wait)? Started with the guacamole and fire roasted salsa and coconut shrimp. Shrimp was tender and crispy, and I really liked the papaya-mango chutney. The mac nut crusted Mahi Mahi came with almond rice and asparagus and was really good. Fish was perfectly crusted, yet buttery and flakey. Although the rice lacked a bit of flavor, the dish came together really well. For dessert we ordered the pina colada cake and key lime pie. The cake was moist but the key lime pie was very tart and I wasn't a huge fan. I would definitely come back again. read more

The bartender lady made my drink without the cherries so we immediately asked for them before she walked away to tend to other customers, but instead of just giving me my cherries, she told me to wait and began to make 3 cocktails, for other customers. We asked again as she was walking our way and again she told us that she would be with us after finishing up (which were the 3 cocktails). I had to wait for her to bring me the cherries after 3 drinks even after the 2nd request. Another thing, she was so loud! She tossed all the cocktail mixers, utensils, and other metal tools she used to make the drinks. We jumped almost every time she tossed these items into the sink. Why is there a need to do that. It's not like she's Tom cruise in one of his movies where he's a bartender in a bar/club and loud music. This place is quiet and no one likes the noise of things being tossed into a sink. She was the only one being loud while the other bartenders were chill and attentive. In addition to that, it took so long for someone to refill our water. I was down to my last piece of ice before anyone came to refill my glass. As we got up to leave after settling our bill (I would have stayed longer for a couple more drinks and some food items as everything was well-made) there was no greeting. There were 3 bartenders and not one greeted us and just did their thing and 1 hostess, who was doing nothing but was on her phone, didn't even look up to greet us as we walked out of the restaurant. Wow! We paid good money to eat/drink here and no consideration. I don't even know why my wife left any tip. Needless to say, I was quite disappointed in the staff. If you're in Wailea this is the best place for dinner! Usually I'm reluctant to eat at chain restaurants however this place never disappoints. I visit Maui few times a year and this is my top 5 in Maui. They also just opened up another location in Lahaina. They serve lunch, happy hour and dinner. I recommend coming in for happy hour and then having dinner. I also recommend making a reservation they tend to fill up easily. Service is always good. I've never had any bad experiences. Fish is always fresh! I recommend the scallop and shrimp green curry for dinner. Sliders are bomb you can't go to maui and not have any of the delicious maui cattle beef!
