Just checking this place out for the first time. I did happen to read the other review about unsafe practices. I looked up to see the cook using the same knife to cut raw meat and veggies. I couldn't believe that lack of care for basic food safety. I'll never come back here. I would enter 0 stars if I could. We came we on a Sunday evening at 5:30p. Okay, sure it's a burger place but they promote their dinners so we thought we'd try it. Then the trouble started. Issue #1: when we ordered our dinners that come with veggies we were told they were "out of veggies". Issue #2: The menu states baked potato was an option but the order taker told us that was "not an option at this location". They offered rice. Issue #3: menu states a choice of soup or salad. I suggested that perhaps soup and salad instead of veggies or potato would work. Order taker said that soup was "not an option at this location". So, starved, I just went with fries and refined beans to go with my steak. The salad would balance out the rest, right? Wrong! Issue #4: the salads arrived frozen with croutons that had clearly been in the fridge on the salad when it froze. But hey, I'm starved, it can't get worse, right? Wrong! Issue 5: remember, there were options to replace the veggies and baked potato: fries, onion rings, rice and the refried beans. I opted for fries and beans. They arrived piled high on the plate, but both were cold! The cheese just sat on top of the beans, unmelted. Final issue: the bathroom. The ladies room had seat covers strewn all over the floor and no paper. Yuck! The only positive is the order taker and server. They did their best to improve the experience. I'm not sure if it was the manager's day off, a shift change, or what happened. The other reviews are mostly positive. I know it's a fast casual burger/late night spot, but this experience was terrible enough to yelp about. It's a shame as they've spent a lot to upgrade the building, but they should invest more in management. Simple effort like ensuring stock is checked, removing items from the menu "not available at this location" and keeping bathrooms reasonably clean goes a long way. read more

I mainly like this place because it's within walking distance to my home, is always open and it's one of the few "restaurants" that doesn't ask for a tip. In that way, it's like eating at Carl's Junior where you order your food and then sit down with a number and they bring the food to you. A friend took me to this fast food restaurant for breakfast and the food was delicious. The portion size was humongous. We ordered different breakfast so we could try each others platters. The service was excellent. Starting with the order taker who gave us our coffee right away, to the owner offering a " Good Morning". Our food was delivered quickly and when they came around to pick up dishes there was another person refilling the coffee cups. Pre-Covid, this place was just the perfect little diner- it's totally clean and cute inside with big booths for a lot of friends, amazing prices for gigantic portions, and they would open at 6am. Not the most amazing and doesn't shine a light to The Hat for me, but it's good enough and it'll be a regular spot for me since it's so close! You order upfront, grab a number or wait for your takeout order to be done. They have a solid variety of breakfast foods vs. regular fast food (burgers, burritos, fries, etc). The fast food is OK. I still prefer all the options at The Hat better. However, it's still a good price - $5 for a large box of chilli cheese fries is fine by me. I'd say breakfast is the best. When I come to visit family, I make sure we stop at Tom's because the food is outstanding. Yet, this last time I came to visit, I was greeted by Angelo who had a face of anger and not customer service oriented. I asked him for a Coke three times and I never got it. Rolled his eyes a few times while I was making a decision what to order and can't wait to rush me. Then the order arrived and it was wrong. It just too sad that people like him work in the service business. Plus, he had to smoke outside where I was dining. Tried the new Tom's today! Was very impressed with the friendly employees, that greeted us promptly upon entering. They have easy to read menus as well as a menu board, multiple cashiers to take your order, and even servers to bring your food and drink refills. The speed of service is exceptional, especially when considering the massive volume of customers they had on this Sunday afternoon. I had the Classic Cheeseburger add pastrami with Feta Fries. It was big, but there are plenty of napkins at the table, which I used a lot of. The fries were seasoned well and crisp but not overcooked.
