Had an appointment Sat 8/8/26 @10for a safety check but failed the inspection for wipers deficiency I turned down the $49.99 replacement quote as I have the wipers at home that didn't got around of installing. I installed the wipers the next day and called my service advisor Robert Ramolete but couldn't take me in that day Monday he was able to get me an appointment the next day Tuesday at 9:30. After waiting about 30 minutes he came to me at the lounge and he said come I'll show you your car, that's when he informed me that the inspector didn't want to pass the inspection as the wipers streaks before I left Robert actually turned on the wiper/washer and said that it looks ok by him but can't do anything since the inspector don want to pass it. Could it be that he's pissed for not taking the $49.00 wipers replacement??? And I'm out $26.96 and no safety check. I was very upset since I supposedly corrected the failure and even cleaned the glass thoroughly. Also, I've been taking the car there since I bought it in early 2021. purchased a vehicle from Tony Group after clearly stating multiple times that I did not want a vehicle with rust. I relied on the dealership's representations and believed I was buying from a reputable dealer that would be transparent about the vehicle's condition. Unfortunately, after the purchase, I discovered a significant rust hole that had caused damage to the vehicle. Had I known about this issue, I would not have purchased the vehicle. What was most disappointing was not only the condition of the vehicle, but the way my concerns were handled afterward. When I brought the issue to management's attention, I felt dismissed rather than helped. Instead of receiving understanding or a meaningful effort to resolve the problem, I encountered an attitude that left me feeling ignored and undervalued as a customer. I expected honesty, transparency, and customer service from a dealership of this size. My experience fell far short of those expectations. I hope this review encourages the dealership to take customer concerns more seriously and to be more forthcoming about vehicle conditions in the future. Companies need to stop extorting customers for all these little add ons. We needed a new battery for our '22 Tiguan. Cost for the battery was 454.23 plus a fee of about 160.00 to programs the battery to the car. I understand that this is a European car thing, so although I'm not happy about it or the fact that the 3 year warranty for the battery was up just a few months back, it is what it is, and not really a Tony thing. The part that bothered me was that on top of that, there was a 24.00 additional fee. When I asked about this additional fee I was told that it was a state mandated expense for the use of shop towels, etc. For a battery? I looked it up. That is not really what the mandate says. The mandate is in place to protect the consumer from additional fees not previously estimated. In addition... we wanted to utilize the benefits of our Amex platinum to extend the warranty of the new battery from 3 yrs to 4. There a fee for this too. 3 %. So for 18.00 we were able to charge it. Debit would have been free, but then we would only have the 3 years warranty and I think the programmable batteries might just be programmed for just over 3years. LOL What happened to the term of the cost if doing business. Some services should be automatically built into the exorbitant cost of parts and service. read more

I had a terrible experience at Tony Volkswagen. I took my car in for a coolant leak, and they had quote me $3,700 for ALL coolant hoses to be changed. (i had changed a couple hoses not even year prior) When I questioned it, they gave me vague explanations and then changed their statement that only SOME needed to be changed and that some looked new. When I asked for the exact number I was told "if you could recall which ones were replaced , that should narrow it down" all this beating around the bush to upsell customers is a shame. The worst service department customer service department ever. I have serviced my vehicle at 5 Volkswagen dealerships from California to Phoenix to Hawaii. Tony Volkswagen's service department is so far below the National standard. I've never had so many problems with my car until we got here. They are not transparent with how much diagnostics will cost. They don't include tire rotation in services (other VW dealerships do), and to top it off, they forgot to call me when a part came in, so I was waiting weeks to get my car fixed and I had to call them to ask about it. When I called, they said the part came in a month prior, yet no one contacted me. Plus, I did a tire alignment with Tony VW and within a year my tires were worn down. I took my car to lex brodies and they said whoever did the last alignment didn't do it properly! My tires were so worn they said it could have popped. I also hardly drive so the roads aren't the issue. I wish Tony VW would not only have better communication, but better pricing transparency upon dropping your car off, I also wish their quality of work was better. read more

Got it towed to the shop and called the following day to get it towed back home so it's not sitting at the shop. The lady was giving me so much attitude and said to me "you'll get your car back in pieces" and then hung up on me. This lady should NOT be in customer service. I purchased GTI from Tony VW several years back. I had a great experience when purchasing and a couple years after that with service. Ever since my original service advisor relocated to the mainland, it's been different. My car was having issues taking gas, leaking gas from the rear passenger side, stalling, etc... I was told by my BF's mechanic friend there was a recall on the suction pump for this model so when we dropped off my vehicle to Tony VW, we told the service advisor, Laura, that we were aware theres a recall and also had extended warranty on my vehicle. She assured us they would look into it and call me with updates so we went home. A few hours past and Laura called me back with an update informing me extended warranty nor the recall would cover the fuel tank because it wasn't the suction pump failing, it was the rollover valve and she insisted that I caused the issue when I overfill my gas. I also asked her about another issue which I forgot to mention during drop off and she literally told me that it'd be another diagnostic fee because it's another area of the vehicle and that they need to make money some and if I didn't want to pay then I can take it to my mechanic friend to check. She told me she'd call me back the next day to update me further which she did not and neither did anyone else in the service department. I actually had to HUNT down someone because no one would answer the phone and I needed to know if I should extend my rental car. Laura wasn't even in that day so when I spoke with someone else, they didn't even know what was going on. Finally, two days after I dropped my car off, Laura got back to me telling me my whole fuel tank needs changing and it'll cost me $3400 + tax. In addition, there were a bunch of other issues that needed to be attended costing me over $6000. Some of these issues I thought were taken care of at the 60k service but apparently not. Laura was very matter of fact and rude. The cost was CRAZY and I needed to think it over and gather $$... I was actually going to pay the $3400 for the fuel tank BUT then I did research and found several people on the mainland having the same exact issue and symptoms on the same vehicle get it covered by VW by an extended warranty ISSUED BY VW.. So at this point, I wasn't going to pay the $3400 anymore. I knew I was getting scammed. I ended up calling Honolulu VW and telling them the situation and immediately after I told them the symptoms, they said it sounded like the suction pump. Honolulu VW COVERED IT UNDER WARRANTY. As a service advisor, you should be advising your customers on the care of the vehicle, especially if they aren't knowledge in cars. I don't feel I got the best advice during my 60k service or at any point when I brought my car in. I ended up spending $400 (DG fee + tow fee) just for Tony VW to misdiagnose my car. They keep calling me about my oil change but I'm never coming back to Tony for service again. read more

Bought a 2024 atlas cross sport $50k+. Had been in shop 4 times for same issue with lights. The kicker was they put me in a loaner, the loaner got a flat tire and now I have to pay $300 for a tire for a damn car I wouldn't have been driving except for the incompetence of the service department. So they've had my car in service for more than 7 weeks. And their only response is to call VW America. I would never recommend this dealership to anyone. Complete BS! Please note, all the issues with my car should have been directed to VW America. The dealership had nothing to do with the quality of the vehicle. That is all on VW America. Would give 0 starts if I could. I called an made an appointment to get my breaks replaced because I knew they needed it. Figured it would be about $1,000 to get the work done. I was told that they would put it in the computer as an 'inspection' but that they would take care of the breaks. I did not ask for any other service nor did I want any. I asked my daughter to pick up the car for me because I was at work and could not come to the dealer. I was not happy when I saw the receipt, I paid over $400 to be told I needed new breaks and for an oil change that I did not want or need (just had one 3 weeks ago). So now I have to make arrangement for my car to be in the shop again for the new breaks and probably spend another $1,000 to get the job done right. This is not the first time I have felt taken advantage of by Tony Service department but it is definitely the last time. I will never recommend this dealership. read more

Honest car sales people are hard to find but the day we walked in without an appointment and met Pono I knew this would be an awesome experience. We went to Tony after visiting "the other" dealership. Pono made thos so easy and without any pressure. His smile and personality really showed his true self. Pono was quite knowledgeable about the vehicle I was looking at. Very impressive! Well also met Andrew who's the GSM of Tony VW. Another answeone gentleman who has so much Aloha and not the typical GSM who laid down the pressure to buy. I enjoy that. That day I walked away with my 2019 VW Tiguan which I'm enjoying. I've been into vws since the mid 80s and totally love the German engineering and pleased to see it develop into something spectacular. I highly recommend Tony VW and especially Pono. This review is for the service department. I would give them zero stars if it were possible. I do not write this review in anger or revenge, it is an honest assessment of the very poor (and lack of) service we have gotten from Tony VW. I will start with the very bad. We purchased a car that we love and paid extra for the ceramic protective coating. As I recall, this cost several thousand dollars extra. At the time of purchase, we were not given an explanation of the details of what they would actually be doing so we did not know that they would also coat the interior. The interior is made of leatherette seats and the dash and door panels were (yes, they WERE) a suede-like brown material that looked really nice. Not shiny. Classy. When we got the car back, I wanted to cry. The classy suede-like brown material was somehow glossy. It looked terrible and definitely NOT what we were expecting. Add to that the fact that we had forgotten to remove a couple of velcro stickers from the doors (doggie protection) and the techs just applied the coating OVER the stickers without removing them. I felt that was just so lazy. At the time, I complained about them not removing the velcro and they remedied it, but the damage to the beautiful brown interior was done. The service guy just shrugged. I spoke multiple times with a service manager who looked at the interior and compared it to one of the new cars on the lot. He acknowledged they simply weren't the same. He also said I would have to bring the car in for what would likely take a day or so (who has time for that?) so they could TRY to fix the damage. We never did. The trust was gone. They didn't know what they were doing and that was apparent. We decided to use the service department at Honolulu VW for our future needs. (See my review for how that's going, LOL). Flash forward a year to the simply bad. With the ceramic coating purchase, we were told we can renew the coating every year for the first three years. Cool! I put a reminder in my calendar to contact Tony VW one year after purchase (early October). I called in mid-October and because it was impossible to make a proper appointment online (their system doesn't have this type of service as an option), I tried to call to make arrangements by phone. I was forced to leave a message since no one would answer the call after several attempts to speak to an actual person. No one returned my call. In early November I called again and spoke with a customer service person who tried to put me in touch with the service department. Again, they were simply too busy to take my call. I left another message with him. That was last week. I still have not heard back from them. I called again today and left another message. I am not optimistic. I am also not usually cynical, but this certainly does feel like they are not calling back because the service I require was paid for a year ago and why would they prioritize something that does not bring in more revenue? read more

I'm writing this review at 3:15 PM. Im sitting at Goodyear Tire in Pearl City waiting for an appointment that was supposed to be finished at 12:45 PM. In efforts to avoid making a long story longer, I'll try to summarize throughly but briefly. I have a 2013 Volkswagen CC. I bought it in November of 2021 so I've had it for about 6 months. I had it aligned at the stadium goodyear ruggt after I bought it. I noticed about a month ago I had a slow leak in the driver's front tire. Upon closer investigation, I saw that the tire is completely chewed up for some reason. I knew it needed attention and soon, but I put it off. I ordered 2 new tires but I hadn't had time to take the car in to get them mounted and balanced. This is 100%my fault and I knew I had pushed it to the limit and it had to get done today. It was not safe. So I made an appointment at noon at the PC Goodyear. When o called the gentleman said it would take 30-45 minutes which is super fast. I had a hectic day planned but worked it out etc etc. I packed up my new girls and got to my appointment at 11:55. I sat in the waiting room until 1:50 when the tech called amd asked where the wheel lock is. I did not realize it had the locked lugs still and didn't have any idea where the key was...i had never been in possession of it. I am trying to process this but I can't quite get past the fact that it's nearly 2pm and they have not even pulled a tire off my car. Nothing I can do about that at this point in time and I will be dropping a review for that business if for some reason you're dying to see how the saga ends. Moving forward, the tech says i have to get a new key from the dealership. I'm just stunned for a minute. What can I do? I say I'll be back, get in my car and head towards Tony VW. I call the Parts dept and speak with the first hero of the day, Steven. I try to explain to him the situation without sounding like I was completely having a melt down and beg for advice and even help if possible. He tells me he's going to see what he can do and to head up. I got there shortly after, knowing they close at 330 and are usually done with jobs by 3. The second Hero of the day, Jason, walks up to ask if i need help. I tell him my name and quickly sits me down, tells me not to worry and he was going to make sure it would get done. He says Steven kindly told him the situation and expressed my distress. Jason walks me out to my car, grts somr information, creates an account for me, grabs my keys, and tells me to relax in the lounge. I knew he was pushed for time, but he still took a few minutes to have a pleasant chat and give me detailed information about what they were doing to my car. I was out the door in less than 30 minutes with a free car wash in hand. I'm just stunned. I thought for sure I'd be sitting in my car, crying on the phone to my dad wishing he was here to help me. But nope! I'm sitting back ar Goodyear, where they were STUNNED that I had made it back with new lugs and ready to have my tires mounted and balanced. It's now 3:30 and I'm still waiting, but I'm waiting feeling REALLY thankful for Steven and Jayson at Tony VW for making such a positive difference in my day read more

I looked online and found my perfect car. I got a new 2019 Jetta S, standard transmission. Looking at the specs, and the price, I knew that it was a no brainer to go and trade in my car. Tony gave me a relatively good deal on my 2016 Acura ILX, and I expected to pay about $5500 extra for the purchase of a new Jetta. Tommy, my sales guy was AWESOME. He was quick with his paperwork and he brought my new car out with a fresh wash and interior scrub. This isn't my first time buying a car and I saw that the numbers were pretty good so I did not attempt to barter on numbers. 5 Stars thus far. Then comes the spare tire that you would think would come standard on new vehicles, but it doesn't. As I checked the trunk, there was a place for a spare, but there was no spare/kit included. Tommy told me that it would cost around $300 for a spare. I asked if it were possible to trade out some things that came with the car (i.e. a road side assistance kit, etc) and Tommy asked the manager. I was told no, and I would have to pay around $300 for a spare. After hearing this, I declined the spare seeing as though I was already giving them a whole bunch of business with buying a new car and I just wanted to get out of there. If the manager would have made a deal with me on the tire, 5 stars across the board. Everything else was perfect besides this one thing. Came to this car dealership to get the the sales agreement only to find out they were working behind the scene with a different bank institution. I didn't find out until I was signing the paperwork. Our family currently has 2 vehicles purchased brand new from Tony Volkswagen. We've been looking at trading in my Tiguan as it's getting up there in miles and reached out to the dealership to inquire about the new Taos. When checking out their inventory on the website we noticed that their vehicles have a "market adjustment" of $5k over MSRP. There is also one Taos that is marked up and then discounted. I asked the sales associate and am including a screen shot of her response. Not only are they marking them up just because of limited supply, the one that is discounted is an advertisement- just to get you in the door. Really despicable business practice in my opinion. Should be a zero star review. These guys are crooks. They really like their "Hawaii markup" which is the 15-20% they tack on "because this is Hawaii". Except it's not on the sticker...they tack it on when they tell you the price of the car....then they act like you got a good deal when they take SOME of it off. So, I pick out a car I like...I know what I want, I have more than 50% cash down, my credit is 844. Should be no problem right? NOPE. AFTER filling out paper work...sign here, initial there, credit check this (I already have as good or better financing through my credit union.....and I TOLD them that....lemon law this.....door to door sales waiver that...all BEFORE we talked ANY numbers....like 30 min of BS and I start asking where is the price of the car????????? The sales guy was giving me the "I only worked here 2 months" gig. The sales manager was hovering around. So....the sales guy goes in the mgr's office and....here it comes....a paper with a bunch of scribbles and $hit all over it....pen, two colors of highlighter...crayon...who knows what. there's a figure in the middle of the paper that is about $3500 higher than MSRP.....no list, no line items tax, title, license, dealer fee, destination etc....just a SCRIBBLE in amongst all the other crap....mind you we've done ZERO back and forth. I asked the sales guy what the price was...he plays dumb and says he doesn't know...."Are you military? We could give you $500 if you're military"....I tell him "no". He asks the sales mgr what the price is and points at the figure in the middle of the scribbles. This includes....."tax and all that right?" Sales mgr says "no, that's just the car, we still need to add all the other stuff"....Oh....and good news...I qualify for 5.9% financing! Holy crap....I just picked up my stuff and WALKED out. Sales guy followed me out...I just backed out and left....drove off the lot. Not 2 min later he calls. He asked what happened and I told him I don't play that crap. He says "oh...well...MSRP is fine....we can do MSRP". I went 12 min down the road to Honolulu VW...talked to Livingston. Found the right car on the lot, went inside, shook the sales mgr's hand, 3 min (not 4...3 min) later had the printed, itemized purchase order in-hand....asked for $750 off...3 min later done deal....except they took $1000 off. The car was dirty so I picked it up 2 days later on a Saturday. DO NOT GO TO TONY....had the same $hit 2 years ago at Tony and wound up going to Honda Windward and bought a H-RV. DO NOT GO TO TONY. I had a disappointing experience with the service desk when I brought my car in yesterday. It had an oil leak, and while they were looking at it the service advisor, Laura, told me I had 2 minutes to make my decision after they did their diagnoses to try something out or to get the car out. I figured they were busy so it's understandable they don't want to wait around. End up getting the problem fixed and it was something very simple, so I'm able to get out of there. I drive 2 miles down the road and stop at the gas station to hear my car making a very weird noise when in park, so I call and bring my car back. They take it and lift it up, and tell me they think it's something with the transmission but don't know what it is. All they know is it's surely nothing they did to mess it up. Then Laura told me there's nothing they can do about it and pretty much shooed me off. I understand there could have been an unrelated problem with the car since I bought it used, but the fact I had no issues with it until I left the dealership is very concerning. Regardless if the problem is the fault of the dealership or not, I found Laura's behavior to be very rude and acting like she didn't have time to deal with me, even though I had an appointment. I also saw her being rude to another customer while I was waiting for them to diagnose my car. If I'm spending that much money to get my car worked on, I expect to be treated with some patience and respect read more

It's funny how the GM, Andrew Lee, is just copying and pasting this whole concerned manager response. I bet he didn't even read my review, because it was all about the horrible experience my other half and I had to go through because of him ! Must have forgotten just like how he all of a sudden forgot about the refund he promised us. Still no refund. Still warning people to not go here. I know first hand, they listened to our concerns and complaints. Promised refunds and exchanges. But felt like the motive was to just get more money out of us. And in the end, it was. If you're promised anything from dealers like this, make sure you have them write down everything and sign it. Or record the conversation. I've been going to this place to get an oil change since I brought my car to Hawaii. It's not until the one time my car got a grinding sound when I braked that I asked them to check it out to see if it was a brake problem, they told me that my brakes were fine (keep in mind that my car was making the grinding sound even when I brought it in) based off what they told me, I kept driving the car since it "wasn't a hazard" and now a couple weeks later my car is not movable and I have to tow it because there were no brake pads on one of my tires and the grinding sound was metal to metal contact. The rest of the tires needed to get changed. I called back and they told me they had no recollection of this conversation. Never bringing my car back to this place again. read more

Update** I received an email from Yelp that my comments for Tony group and Tony Volkswagen were removed because they were duplicate comments on both pages-oops. I'll just leave this one here. I seriously am looking out for other people out there who don't know what a rip off this place is. Go to Honolulu Volkswagen instead. As long as Tony Volkswagen is under the same management, I assume nothing will change. UPDATE* The GM Andrew Lee is now copying and pasting responses to everyone's bad reviews telling them to contact him about their concerns. I can assure you this is for the APPEARANCE of management caring on Yelp, but they really do not. I know because I actually I went in and spoke with GM Andrew Lee and COO David Perry where they told me I could get some sort of refund back for their shady ways of ripping me off. Only to have them both tell me a few weeks later that they never said that. Funny that I keep seeing the same thing happen in multiple people's reviews. Called twice to schedule an appointment to fix my windshield wipers and got hung up on twice. Another time earlier this month I called to ask if I needed an oil change since I haven't reached my miles yet and I probably wouldn't be able to by the time I turn in my car. The lady said I would need to so I made an appointment and showed up. After my service was done, the guy who was helping me out asked why I even came in since I didn't need it... $118 down the drain. I don't appreciate having my money being taken away from me when one person here is telling me I had to and another said I didn't. It's very frustrating for me considering the fact that I wasted three hours of my time and $118 of my money. read more

I've purchased a few cars in the past decade and have dealt with many dealerships such as BMW, Honda, and MINI. I've had my eyes on a VW for a while and this time I decided to go with Tony Volkswagen. On my first visit I met with Ethan. I felt welcomed and he answered all of my questions. Unfortunately they didn't have the car I wanted in stock, but he said he would follow up with me when another arrived. Over the next several weeks Ethan kept me updated on the status and promptly answered any additional questions I had. I started to feel bad with all the emails I kept sending him. When the car finally arrived, I worked with Jon, Joe, and Paul and throughout the whole buying process I never felt rushed or mislead. From beginning to end, everything was straight forward and communicated very clearly to me(I usually ask a lot of questions). If I had to sum up the whole process, I would say it was efficient and easier than I expected. I also want to add that the business felt very friendly/family oriented and everyone seemed passionate about VW. The other workers I talked to were friendly and we chatted for a bit about VW's while I was waiting. read more

This is for the Sales (Jeffery "Sal" Salazar) and Service for the VW section of the Autoplex. I had been in search for a Saab for awhile. I looked for the Saab on Craigslist and found one that I loved. They had it listed for a little over $17k. On Saab website they had it listed for $22k. I called and requested if the Saab had been in any known accidents. The sales man, Sal, said he couldn't remember. I went to Tony VW and test drove the car, it's what I wanted and I didn't waste any time and wanted to negotiate. I requested the carfax and he said he'd get it for me. I am a single 25 year old that looks a lot younger than I am. I felt like the sales man was trying to intimidate me, he said he could sell it to me for $22k. I laughed and said no way, we went back and forth as much as possible. For the third time I asked for the CarFax and Sal finally provided it to me. Thankfully it had a clean bill of health. I thought the Saab didn't have dark enough windows, I mentioned that I would need to get it re-tinted. They stated their service department could do it, and I requested the following Saturday for it to be serviced. We finally agreed on a price. I did feel like they were trying to intimidate me and push me into something I didn't want to do. I held my ground and he told me "We just reduced the price, yesterday, come on work with us". I was going off the Craigslist price. After the paperwork was signed, Sal mentioned that he didn't have the extra key, but he could provide it to me and call me when my window tint appt was set up. I waited for almost a week, until I initiated the call and requested a Saturday appt. They said their tint guy does not work on Saturdays and I would have to drop it off in the morning during the week. The service department called me back and requested that I bring in the car before 6 the following week and they will provide me a loaner car. I thought that was nice on their part. I dropped off my car and filled out the paperwork. Pretty easy. Their service department is in the same area as their sales. The service girl, Beth Akua, gave me the key to my loaner car, my extra Saab Key, and my safety registration. My Saab key was stapled about 3 inches from the top of the Safety inspection... awesome guys!! Beth walked me outside and said one of those is your loaner car, have a nice day and walked inside. I got in the Passat and it was parked in the middle of two cars and a car was blocking me in. I had to do 2 minutes of fancy maneuvering to get it out of the stall. The following day, I decided to call and check the status of my Saab. Another girl, Tiffany or Stephanie, stated that they couldn't tint my Saab since it was already tinted. But they could remove the old tint and replace it. According to the guy who does the tint, it was already the darkest legal limit. I explained that there is no way that my Saab had the darkest legal limit, I have always tinted my car at Kamaaina Tinting, and there was no comparison. I asked to speak with the manager, as this was unacceptable. I get a call from "Jeff". I thought that it was the manager. It was the salesman, Sal, who temporarily changed his name. I got his number and told him I'd call him back. Before calling him back, I sought some quick legal advice from an attorney friend, and gave good ole Sal a call back. I told him that I wanted a refund of my money that was towards the tint, I did not want to work with their service department and I do not want them servicing my car. He was like "let me ask a manager, okay?" I said that it wasn't okay, that I wasn't taking any other option, and that I was firm on this. I again explained that there is no way that the Saab had 35% tint on it already, and he can either refund my money or expect a BBB Complaint. He then said "I am going to ask my manager for a check". I felt the phone conversation was trying to make me be like "oh it's okay, keep the $350 that was set aside to do the tint and it's no worries". I already thought the $350 was *expensive*. I felt like their business skills, customer service, and respect for customers is very lacking. I had to request a refund, because they probably weren't going to give it to me. I was going to file a BBB complaint, but I decided that it's not worth my time anymore. I did get a refund. Next time, they should stick to the sales agreement, or I can void that contract and they'll have a car on their hands and they'll have to refund the customer. read more
