I have limited experience with auto mechanics in general, so please take this review with a grain of salt. I came here because it had the most amount of positive reviews and because of the area; I assumed that Tony and his associates deal with older Japanese cars like mine on a daily. I had an exhaust leak and my AC wasn't working.- this I already knew prior to coming to Tony's. Despite being so busy Tony and his colleagues gave me the time to diagnose my car. I did do my research beforehand in common problems with a car AC; I even got a gauge and put refrigerant in my car. They were honest about my AC compressor being broken. It was speculated that my exhaust leak was most likely at the manifold gasket, but they won't know for sure until they open it up. Since my car is from out of state and there is a lot of rust from snow and salt Tony gave me a fair warning that there's a possibility of the bolts breaking while removing the manifold and explained to me that further repairs may be needed including replacing the manifold in general. He gave me the option to take the risk in fixing my car; it didn't appear that he was trying to upsell me or exaggerate the problems of my car. He didn't charge me anything for diagnosing the problems with my car. I did take the liberty in calling other shops and got several quotes that were similar in pricing if not more. I finally decided on getting my car repaired here. Unfortunately, he called me while repairing my car and told me that the bolts did break. He asked me to come and take a look. He explained to me that he had to replace other parts including the cylinder head, gasket, and the manifold. He quoted me the additional cost and as always gave me the option to not do anything and leave it as is. When I went to pick up my car he showed me all the of the old parts he had to replace and admitted that he gave me a really good deal and lost money on labor. I think he took into account that I got the car from my brother and didn't want to put more money into the car than what it is actually worth. With any work done on a car, I don't know if everything is fine until driving it for a few weeks. read more

Took a gamble and went to Tony's before I had a long roadtrip and needed my transmission fluid changed that morning. He had the special fluid for my Honda Civic 2014 in stock and I was in and out within 45 mins (with a line)! He was super friendly and easy to work with. I also need my skid plate changed and he was upfront that usually dealerships only carry that (I could try Amazon tho). Never take your car to this scam Artist Tony's shop my differential it was broken. I took it to Tony's they did a terrible job and charged me too much extra than Hoopers which specialist for differential then when I got it back the whole car wash shaking so many time I try to reach him he always says I'm busy or I am in my vacation finally after so many try I talk to him he told me the problem is your driveshaft, I changed the brand new driveshaft steel problem. Was there after six month back-and-forth with phone calls finally I get tired of it take it to a different Shop ( Hoopers) and they open the differential. They told me who ever did this differential did the wrong adjustment and sharp the gears tooth and destroy my gears and have to change the all gears to fix the issue . when I called Tony he said I don't give a shit, I don't give your money back and I end up to pay $5000 to different shop hoppers to fix the issue and no more problem. First time here, Tony was great- answers phone calls right away, was straight to the point, and is fair with his pricing. Had his mechanics perform AC work on my Acura TL with the parts I supplied. They discovered additional electrical issues that made a 4hr job turn into over 24hrs. But I had no worries they could figure it out. He gave me a loaner car (old but does that job) until the work was completed. The next day, the car was fixed. Initial Estimated price increased for the unexpected labor, fair and reasonable. Assured me if there are any future issues, come back anytime and they'll be on top of it. Expect lots of customers, first come first serve. Takes cash (preferred) and/or card. Tony never let's me down. His dad just opened another shop in North EL Monte and I can't think of anyone else I would trust taking my old Accord to. I've been to some shady mechanics and can tell when someone is trying to BS me into spending more. I may be ignorant when it comes to cars, but know a scam when I see one. Oil changes, tune ups, timing belt changes, etc... the quotes are always lower and the wait time is much shorter than Jiffy Lube, Walmart, Marcos, Longo, Goudy, but just as good. read more

Because of the high reviews of this place, I decided to bring in my car for an oil change. I called ahead of time to confirm the price of their oil change, & it's only $18 according to Tony! What a great price! Over the phone, I also asked if the $18 oil change would last for 5,000 miles, & he said yes. However, after my car was done, the sticker reminder he placed in my car showed that my car would be due for another oil change in 3,000 miles. Soooo... that is weird. When you arrive, you might see that their business is full of cars. So it can be difficult to find parking nearby unless you squeeze in somewhere. After parking on the street, I walked over to the service office for "Remedy Radiator Service & Sales" not realizing that I was walking over the the wrong office. I didn't know they were a separate business from Tony's Auto Repair. The guy from Remedy Radiator Service kept on telling me to not stay in his area. He kept on telling me, "Go over there!" And I kept on thinking, "Where?" Before an employee acknowledged me, I saw another couple just standing behind a truck that was being serviced. So when they were standing there, that made me think that... "Hmm... is there really any waiting room for this auto center?" Finally, when an employee from Tony's Auto Repair comes out, he just asks "how can I help you?" I tell him that I was there for an oil change. He tells me that there was only one car ahead of me, and that he'd get my car serviced right away. In a few minutes, he politely told me that he could pull my car in for me. So he asked me for my car keys & pulled in. Weird thing is that he didn't even ask me which oil change I wanted. I guess he just assumed I wanted the $18 one. I also thought it was a bit odd that he didn't introduce himself, but I overheard himself saying his name when he was on a phone call. Finally, I notice Tony's Auto Repair waiting room when I walked over to the far right. Weird how I had to find the room on my own w/o Tony telling me. The room is not that noticeble until you walk your way through the cars. Their indoor waiting area w/a black leather sofa was cool for a hot day, this room was much better than the neighbor's ghetto waiting area. Then there's a restroom, but then it doesn't look very clean. Fyi, the waiting room indicates "Sorry, no checks! Cash or charge only!" Business hours are from 8-6pm Mon-Sat. Nonetheless, I was in and out of this place within 35 minutes! =) Arrived at 11:55am and got out of there at 12:30pm! Super fast! read more

During this pandemic, this shop avoid to drive customer's car, which is very considerate. We go there Saturday, the wait time around 5 minutes, and it was done around 10 minutes, very efficient. We went there to repair a tire which was nailed. The price is reasonable $10. read more

However, it was time for my 90,000 mile timing belt, water pump and brakes to get change. Dropped off the car for a day to have it day and picked it up the next day (that was my decision). They test drove my car and told me that it was the rotors or the springs that got damaged and was charging me a crazy amount (I believed they said it was around $270 per tire). I can sensed when someone is lying, so I brought my car to another mechanic and they told me it was my brakes that needed to be changed and only charged me 99$. It's hard to find a good cheap place that will just give you a lube job. Prop it up there, get underneath you, and let that stuff drop down, potentially all over their faces. Tony's Auto Repair was shown to me by my father in law because he takes his car there for simple things like oil changes, etc. If I recall correctly, the conventional oil change was about $17 and that included 4 quarts of 5W20 oil, oil filter, and labor. I can't even change my own oil for that cheap!!!! This place shares a parking lot with some radiator shop and the owner of that place is not exactly the nicest guy. I pulled into the only spot that was available and I was blocking the drive-way into his shop. Hey, not my fault you have no customers. He (obviously angry) told me to move my car. Annoying yes but whatever, not Tony's problem. So when it was my turn, I pulled the car into the garage. This was quite foreign to me since every other place I go to, they ask for the keys. It was kind of exciting to pull it in and steer according to where the guy guiding me wanted to go. Fun and exciting for a newb. Anywho, they changed the oil, didn't try to up-sell me an engine flush or anything like that. Just a simple in and out in 30 minutes. that included waiting for the car that was there before me. Amazing I have such a nice, honest, helpful auto mechanic nearby me. How long have I been living here and I just found this out? Tony found out my 2004 Camry has 2 check engine lights on. The catalytic converter and the Bank 1 Sensor 1 O2 sensor needed to be replaced. My car takes SULEV -super ultra low emission level catalytic converter. It is the exhaust manifold with the integrated catalytic converter closer to the engine, not the one on the lower end on the tail pipe. Dealers quoted the part over $1k. A local shop catalytic exhaust shop quoted less than $1K, however, I also needed work done on my AC. Here is a background why I needed AC service. I have been refilling my AC using the 12 OZ refrigerant bottles from WalMart. Thinking more is better, I filled in 2 bottles. My car takes 1.32 lB or 21.12 Oz maximum. After I put in the 2nd bottle of refrigerant, the AC compressor was cycling off and on and cold air was coming out sporadically. I released some refrigerant but it was no help. The AC was not giving out cold air. After a few youtube videos, I found out I needed to vacuum everything out and put in the correct amount in. I went to Autozone and borrowed manifold gauge and a pump vacuum. Guess what, the manifold gauge wouldn't connect to my high pressure port. That took out a lot of fun. I wanted to do the job myself. I had no choice but to turn to a pro to do the job. I found Tony on yelp and called him. Tony picked up the phone. Tony said the part alone is over $1K but he could get it for me for $950. And he offers to do AC service for free. Wow. Normally it's $60 minimum to do that. The exhaust manifold with catalytic converter price ranged from $290 on Ebay but it's not CARB- California Air Resource Board- Compliant. On Ebay, the CARB compliant Genuine 2004-2006 Toyota Camry Exhaust Manifold part NO 25051-28180 cost $885. I didn't need a manifold gasket for this manifold since nothing will be leaking. It looked easy enough and I wanted to change it myself but I didn't know the part number. How can you tell whether if the part you have is a CARB compliant even though yours could be advertised as SULEV emission standard? The CARB compliant one has its O2 Sensor on top while the FED compliant has its one on the side. On my O2 sensor at Bank 1 Sensor 1 position, Tony said I could get the part cheaper myself. After calling local dealers with quote ranging from $200 to $300, just for the part alone, I went on Ebay and purchased the DENSO air/fuel sensor for $70 including shipping. I put the anti-seize compound on threads and changed out the O2 without problem. Another issue my high mileage car was having. Each time I started the car, I could see a slight white smoke coming out of the tail pipe, and I could smell the burnt oil residue. I asked Tony about changing main seal. That's a $1000 service for $40 part. He said it's not worth it. I bought this bottle ATP AT-205 Re-Seal Stops Leaks, 8 Ounce Bottle from Amazon for $13. It solved the problem. read more

Saturday April 29th I head down to K-town with a date in my 2009 G37s. In traffic my clutch pedal loses half pressure but I make it to lunch. In the parking structure after our meal the pedal loses all pressure and we are forced to tow my car back to El Monte. My G sits on the street until Monday 5/1/17. I spend the morning visiting shops, long story short Tony's was the third shop I visit what I see is a foreman inspecting parts expressing dissatisfaction at the quality of what he's received. He's not shy about speaking to it out loud. He turns to me with a positive expression change and he asks me why I've come. I explain the situation and he explains without hesitation that it may be just the slave cylinder and a couple hundred dollars. I know cars myself and expect the worse regardless but appreciated his optimism. I liked what I saw, I called a tow company immediately and sign authorization on the spot. Monday evening I am told it may need a clutch assembly and I select OEM parts. $1.4k, I approve, a fair price to pay for parts and labor on a G37s. Tuesday midday I am informed my vehicle ran fine after they bled the system and it would be $65. This is honesty, this is integrity. I hope my review helps you. -B read more

Avoid this place if you don't want you car to get screw up. Once I brought my car here for a transmission replacement at 100k, they charged me cheap and told me that they put in the OEM stuff. After the job done I was able to run for 20k miles, they my car is dead because some thing went wrong with the transmission. read more

I found this place on Yelp about five years ago! It's about time I write this review (since I just took my girlfriends' car for a transmission fluid change and also brake fluid change). Tony is the owner of this auto shop and is by far one of the most honest mechanics I have ever met.. No really, i'm being completely serious! He does not hesitate to provide pricing over the phone and is honest whenever you ask him for his opinion or for some input. PRICING: His pricing seems very reasonable when compared to other auto shops in the area. He even allows you to bring your own oil fluid and will just charge you labor. He doesn't nickle and dime you and if you pay cash -- there's a bonus!! ;) SERVICE: I trust him with all of the cars in my household and will continue to go to Tony for as long as he owns the shop. I went down to Tony's shop to have him read an error code on my car. The error code wasn't popping up in his machine so he didn't charge me, and he also topped off my engine coolant for free as well. I called different shops around the area for a dealership recommended brake fluid flush, rear differential flush, and fuel injection cleaning for my 2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport. Even though all the shops had the EXACT same 5-star positive reviews and the prices were all comparable, Tony's patience and mannerism over the phone and Yelp messaging sealed the deal. He was patient enough to answer all of my questions. I came in on a Friday and was surprised he took me in since he had many cars/customers waiting for service in preparation for the long Labor Day weekend. They even went to the extent of flushing each brake line without extra charge!! Most shops will simply empty out the reservoir and pour in new fluid not bleeding out the old from each brake line. read more
