Tony's make a very delicious beef. It's tiny in there and there weren't any seats available so I just took it to go and ate it outside. The guys inside working are Spanish speaking and have your food done in minutes. I ordered my usual, beef with hot peppers and dipped. The bread held up all the way until my last bite and the beef and it's juice was well seasoned. And they pack it with beef as well. I asked for hot peppers and they give it to you on the side in a little cup. I would have preferred the peppers on the sandwich instead of me having to put them on. No big deal though. I will agree with most that their giardiniera was a little different, definitely unique, but still got the job done. It came with just the right amount of heat, didn't flavor to an already delicious beef. My partner and I ordered takeout from here last night for dinner. It's definitely a hidden gem and a hole in the wall spot. We ordered 3 different sandwiches to share, so we can try more than one item on the menu. They are known for their Italian Beef and their custom made beef patty for their burgers. My partner loves Italian beef, I'm normally someone that will eat this type of food once in a blue moon because it's too heavy for me, and this is honestly waaaaayyy better than Portillo's and any other Italian beef I've ever had in Chicago. The meat is so tender and juicy, and it literally melts in your mouth. My only complaint is that the bread is soggy by the time we got home, but that's also another reason why I love it because it's not soggy where the bread is falling apart but it's the soggy from the juices of the meat that blends into the bread. Next time I'll just ask for them to go easy on the gravy. The burger is decent, nothing special, but reminds me of the Big Mac sauce without the 2 pieces of meat and probably better quality. We also tried their breaded steak sandwich, and I personally prefer Ricobene's for that. We upgraded one of the fries to have cheese on it, and it's actually not bad since they poured the cheese over the fries and the fries still tasted good after the ride home. The plain ones that came with the burger were still crispy. They also gave us a punch card, and once you fill it up you get $5 off your next order which is pretty cool. They also have a small parking lot for you to pop in real quick and grab your food to go. It's a great use of city space, and honestly they're doing something right because it was 4 other people in there with me last night around 9:15pm and they close at 10. All of those customers came in with their punch card, and I was like it's my first time. The staff were all so sweet and friendly. It's an open kitchen concept too where you can see them prep your food. I highly recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for fast food, specifically for Italian beef, and this is your reminder to support the small local businesses. We picked up some food after we landed at Midway, to take and heat the next day for a tailgate. We did pre order. The Italian beef was incredible and everyone loved it. The Italian beef was super juicy and tender. I like how it was not fatty and greasy at all. The bread also was dipped in the sauce which made it super flavorful. The meat was juicy and a little crispy, from being grilled. The bread was soft and warm with gooey cheese and nice grilled onions and peppers that gave it some sweetness and spice. As Chicagoan's we tend to love our local beef joints. Tony's is a great local spot. The sandwich is always spot on and the counter staff are efficient. They get the food out to you quick. Speaking of a hole-in-the-wall place, Tony's Italian beef definitely is qualified for such description. The space of the entire dining is smaller than my living room! But the patrons didn't seem to mind and enjoyed their meals regardless. Other the typical "Chicago-hotdog-joint" varieties, they offer lots of menu items that you can see in an old-fashioned American or Greek diner. In other words, there is something for almost everyone, unless you're a strict vegan (then the Chicago-style diet isn't going to work out for you). I had the Italian beef sandwich with mozarella, and hubby ordered the pepper & egg sandwich. I did like the beef very much. It was one of the renderest beef I've ever had. The entire sandwich had just the right amount of saturation; it was easy to consume. My minor complaint I had was the amount of mozarella in the beef sandwich. It was on a skimpy side. I barely detected the presence of the cheese until I got to my last bites. Hubby's pepper & egg sandwich, on the other hand, didn't have much wow-factor, according to his words. Perhaps he needs to order a different item next time to have his mind changed. Overall, it was a good experience to try out Tony's on the southside of Chicago. It's located in a gentrified neighborhood, yet during the day I don't foresee any danger to explore by foot.
