Back when I was a high school student, I didn't like the chicken fingers but after my breakup this was a pretty insanely good. Come here for the occasional late night craving. Sometimes I'm just sitting in bed thinking about their baked rice. It's not anything insanely good tasting but it has a very simple but comforting taste and feel. The restaurant is also bustling on a Friday night it didn't even feel like it was 2am. Besides their baked pork chop over rice I also really like their fried calamari, the addition of stir fry onion and pepper really adds to the flavor. Regarding service, I feel like it's always fine? Yeah they were busy but they got everything to me and I basically didn't say anything just pointed to the menu and nodded for replies since it was so loud inside. Top Cafe is a great local HK-style restaurant that you must try when you are craving some hot and delicious comfort food. My favorites are the Beef Chow Fun, the Salt and Pepper Fried Fish, and the Baked Pork Chop. You really must try the baked pork chop - the sweet tomato sauce pairs with the savory pork perfectly. However this dish can be a hit or miss because there have been some times where the sauce was burnt on top, but the owners were very accommodating when we let them know. Also, all of the Ho Fun dishes we have tried are great too such as the Egg and Shrimp Ho Fun. For a quick and filling dinner, the Family Set is good because you can choose 3 dishes for a reasonable price (I think it is around $30). We have not been able to eat at the restaurant in-person for a long time but I can say that the takeout food is always hot and made to order, and each dish is big enough for 2 people. My friends and I love coming to this restaurant. We always order the same dishes, and never get tired of it. I LOVE the baked fish in cream sauce! This and the pork spare ribs in sweet and sour sauce are my favorite. Looks can be deceiving when you see the baked fish dish because there is cheese on top but it completes it perfectly. The sauce, cheese, fish, and rice are just the perfect combo. The sweet and sour sauce is delicious as well! I love to put the sauce with the baked fish dish and rice. They never undercook the fish or pork. Sometimes I wish they could give us some spare ribs with more meat and I like to have some meat to chew on instead of bones. The people are nice and welcoming. I don't write a review unless I feel really strongly about something. This place was dirty and the food wasn't great. The sauce on the rice plate felt like glue, it's quite disgusting. The rice was hard. And they kept forgetting to bring out parts of my order. The staff was by far the rudest and most unhelpful I've seen. They talk to you like you owe them something. When they were busy, it felt like they were mad at you for asking them for something, and of course they ignored my requests too. The whole experience was super uncomfortable. No fancy decor, just basic tables and chairs with noisy clientele that has only one reason to be here .... EAT! Service is quick, food is hot and price is very affordable! The menu has pictures so you can just point because servers are not really there to impress you with their English. So ... we got hungry after a drinking spree. It was late. I went here around 3pm mostly because it was one of the few restaurants open at the odd hour of 3pm. Anyway, they have a special menu between the hours of 2pm and 4pm or something, so I ordered a bowl of wonton noodle soup from that menu. It was about $6 or $7 I think. The bowl is smaller, but they fill it to the brim, so it was the perfect size for me. I finished it all. I wouldn't go out of my way for this place, unless I'm staving and in Cupertino at an odd hour or craving food late-night since this place closes late. read more

3.5stars I thought they changed hands because they no longer offer Hainan Chicken which used to be my go-to here. Moreover, the Bake Pork Chop Rice taste terrible. However, I discover that their Cantonese food taste above average even though they sometimes include parts of food that I would discard. (For example, thicker stalks or buggy leafs in veggies). I have had their A-Choy and Gold and Silver Egg Spinach. I like their flavor, but would not order them again. My favorite by far is their Fish Fillet in Black Bean Sauce rice dish. The Fish Fillet with Tofu is not nearly as good. Fried Chicken Wings with Lemongrass is okay. I like how it is juicy. It is freshly fried. I don't taste much flavor other than saltiness. Fried Tofu is alright. I like the batter and the texture of the tofu, but it has less flavor than most salt and pepper dishes I'm used to. Steamed Chicken with Vegetables. Affordable Hong Kong cafe food, used to come here for late night meals in college, still as good as I remembered. Definitely get the iced lemon tea (冻柠茶), one of the Hong Kong cafe staples, be sure to use the spoon to smash the lemon a bit to extract more of the flavor. Top Cafe earns high marks for being a place open really really late in the South Bay, which is a rarity. The South Bay is urban suburbia where if you don't make your decisions by 9pm generally, your options dwindle with each passing minute as restaurants start closing. It's an Asian throwback restaurant where most of the late night eaters are Chinese young adults in their late teens to mid-20's. It's less A.B.C., so all of the signs on the walls are in Chinese characters and the general vibe is not that of the typical 2nd or 3rd generation assimilated Asian Americans, but more 1st Generation culture. You'll hear more Chinese than English spoken inside these walls. They're friendly and it has a good vibe to it however. I'd say it's a rarity to see non-Asians eat here late night, so it's more of a nice cultural hangout for the young folks. It's a good place to go to after a movie, the bars or clubs, since it's open so late. The time I ate here I did see a Xìnggn de bái niû hái = 性感的 白女孩 go in, pick up an order to go and then leave. The food is good, and better as a late night option than most of the American diners like Denny's, iHop, etc. unless you crave that cuisine, and if you come in a group, you can do "family style" sharing and it's cost effective. It's a way way way better option than Fast Food restaurants (and most are drive through this late at night too!). You can sit down, feel safe, and relaxed here. There seems to be no drama and the partons are respectful, no not like other late night eateries with some delinquents or urban youth causing trouble. The service here is good, not overly in your face, but attentive enough while giving you space too. You might have to wave/flag down your waiter for your check if you're looking to get in and out 'tho since a lot of people loiter and socialize so they're usually respectful and let people sit, order, eat and talk for extended periods. The portions are pretty big, you can get away with dining in a group for under $10 per person easily. The parking is easy, there's a lot with plenty of spaces. Disclaimer #1: This is a CASH ONLY restaurant, so bring money. Disclaimer #2: The sodas, despite having a soda fountain are not "Free Refills" on soft drinks. Been coming here for years so its a bit of a comfort food place for my family. Don't come here and get the American dishes (chicken nuggets, sandwiches - which aren't actually horrible, etc) and expect it to be top notch. Its known as a Hong Kong style resturaunt for a reason. The prices and sizes are definitely reasonable (they have a good 3 dish for ~$24 dinner deal) and there's a really wide variety or traditional Chinese dishes. Some of my favorites are their salted egg and thousand egg and spinach (ask for low salt and oil), curry (chicken or beef are both delicious), and any of their baked dishes (tomato or cream sauce over rice or noodles with any meat - honestly they're all really good to me). I like their house special fried chicken too - it's pretty unique and different from a usual fried chicken. This isn't some high class fine dining resturaunt but it's the perfect place for take a way and a casual chill delicious dinner without breaking the bank. P.S. If you come for lunch and are craving some unhealthy and sweet, go for the French toast. It's asian style so it's two slices of Asian bread with peanut butter sandwiched in between and deep fried.
