I came for pickup at night. my wife was sick so I could only pick from a handful of places. There was only a couple places with congee and this was one of them. The inside is like a regular chinese restaurant (canto). The auntie helped me pick out a congee to go because they have quite a bit of options. It took about 10 minutes for my porridge. We got the seafood supreme. Honestly it was pretty good! warm, nice ingredients (shrimp scallop etc) and the flavor was just right. I can't really fault it for anything. 20$ got us 4 people worth. Restaurant doesn't look the fanciest but the food was delicious and reminds me of Hong Kong food. Food was fresh and average review is 3 on Yelp so you know the food is good. We got the set menu which included a 10lb emperor crab. The crab was cooked into several different dishes. First was the garlic streamed crab legs. Tasted fresh and had the sweet crab taste. The garlic made it even better. The middle part of the crab was stir fried with deep aromatic flavors of onions and garlic. The shell of the crab was steamed with a very silky and soft egg mixed with pork and the crab insides. The soup we had was the black chicken soup. Flavorful and had black garlic as well. We had the special mahi mahi made into sweet and sour dish and salt and pepper. The sweet and sour fish was fried perfectly and stayed crispy with the sauce for the entire meal. Sauce was perfect which reminded me of having this dish in Hong Kong. The salted fish and chicken fried rice had the wok flavor. Ended with dessert of herbal grass jelly that was made fresh in store. The HK egg waffle was soft and had a mochi texture inside with great egg flavor. It was one of the best Chinese restaurant I've had for the Bay Area. Good service. t was such a terrible experience eating at Ming Tasty at 6pm yesterday. This was the first time we ever left a zero tip at a restaurant. We complained about several dishes. The BBQ pork buns were outrageously priced and tasted stale, as if they had been reheated multiple times. The waiter openly told us that their dim sum items were leftovers from the morning, and that the BBQ pork buns were purchased frozen products not even made in their kitchen. The tofu skin wrap with meat was also extremely dry and tasted like it had been sitting for days. The chicken feet were dry as well. Even the jellyfish dish was overpriced for the quality. We always later dim-sum, but most of the restaurants steams the already made portion and do not have these issues. I felt the rice porridge was fairly good ... believe it or not, I've seen restaurants who go off a little on their own tastes and I stop going. Ming Tasty seems to have a good traditional recipe with just enough salt that you have to finish it on your own with soy sauce -- which is a positive to me. Har gow and the steamed dim dum were ok but the texture was B+. The Chinese dougnut with t he congee was good. In terms of value, society is in a weird place right now and so the prices reflect that compared to pre-pandemic. Authentic Cantonese style cuisine! My husband and I wanted something simple but good tonight. The menu is large but we only ordered the beef chow fun and ginger onion kidney and liver. The chow fun had some wok hei and the kidney/liver dish was flavorful. I have to drop a star because for $20 there were very few pieces of kidney and even fewer liver, it felt like eating scraps. Just moved to Palo Alto, was craving some dim sum. Ordered for delivery. Turnip cakes were very pasty and very firm, smelled like burnt oil. Bbq steam bun was so floury and didn't have good finesse. Shrimp and pork rice noodle rolls were so thick with rice wrap and barely any meat, and the texture on them just completely off. Even the Bean Curd skin rolls came out hard and could barely cut them. 3.5 stars for us! Went on a Friday night and about half the restaurant was filled. We were excited to see dim sum offered all day so we ordered some xiu mai and chicken feet. We also got a fish stomach soup, lobster noodles, veggies w/tofu, and sticky rice. Everything was great. The garlicky noodles were especially my favorite, as well as the sticky rice which is a huge portion. Our main complaint is that the dim sum was too salty. Food is above average to fantastic but service is an area needing improvement. Nobody came to our table to take any orders. I had to grab someone's attention for that. First red flag. Here's what we ordered: Sticky Rice Lotus Leaf - five stars here for the moist, savory broth soaked rice. Sooo good. Would like to have embedded peanuts but that's just me. Har Gow - very sticky but large portioned. Need hot mustard. In a little bit of disbelief that they didn't have hot mustard. How can you serve dim sum without hot mustard? Siu Mai - unremarkable other than the fact that they are larger sized than normal. Seafood Congee - very tasty, but not enough solids in there, of any kind. String beans - great texture and firmness level - it's not always easy to get it just right so that they aren't overly flimsy or too crunch hard. Pea Shoots - one of my favorites here. Tastes like sautéed spinach. Really yummy. Lobster Noodles - didn't get a chance to really try because it gets a little messy digging out the lobster bits. Noodles were good though. Bean curd rolls - yes, always a must-order. It's such a unique dish, fun to eat because of the unique textures and delicious flavor. Chow fun with duck tongue - fun to say you ordered it but I have to say trying to unearth any meat out of the tongue with my own tongue and teeth felt a little weird. Prices are notably high and the service woefully falls short. I brought in a birthday cake and they didn't really know how to present it. (You take it out of the box BEFORE you bring it to the table). The special candles I brought were tossed aside - I mean if they weren't going to put it in the cake, why would I give it to them in the first place? We also had to ask for a knife, for example. Good service anticipates these needs, right? Finally, I realized later on that there were two dishes that were ordered, paid for, but never delivered (spare ribs and chicken feet). The har gow had someone's hair in it when I split it in half. I luckily caught it but I was creeped out. I'm not sure if the cleanliness is maintained and seeing it made me think the other foods are questionable. I got my order from Uber eats so the dim sum wasn't eat it there fresh but overall pretty good. They were out of the chiu chow dumplings but they were sweet enough to call to ask if I wanted something else instead and subbed taro dumplings. Good thing we ate the taro dumplings first because we weren't sure if they were sweet or savory. They were savory with meat I felt like they were more unique so that was fun! We came to eat the steamed fish Sep 2022. We ordered the cod grouper. It was very obvious that they gave us a dead fish that was not live from the fish tank. We eat a lot of fish and can immediately tell that the fishy taste/smell. Also the fish meat was extremely hard. I had cooked so much fish both live and frozen. Ming tasty has phenomenal food - my girlfriend and I always get the mushroom and bok choy dishes, combined with one of the seafood porridges! The service is very quick and the waitresses and waiters are very kind on the whole. They didn't even come over to check in on us for a long time, and after awhile we finally flagged her down to take our order. I don't have time to stand here all day." We would have waked out on site after that but since it was Christmas Eve and we were hungry we just stayed, but that was just a huge turnoff for us. This place is known for its casual Cantonese fare, especially their wide variety of porridge offerings. If you live in the East Bay, their name may ring a bell with you, given that they once had another location in San Leandro (now closed). My family and I met a couple friends for dinner here on July 7th at 6:30 pm. First thing I noticed upon entering were the pictures of Chinese celebs next to the cash register. Who would have thought stars like Chow Yun-Fat and Ang Lee had dined here before? The place was pretty busy. We were seated at a smaller round table near the back, very close to the quartet of live fish tanks and their semi-open kitchen. A quick glance revealed a colorful and modern looking interior. Seating was made up of booths and tightly packed tables. There were a couple TVs showing programs from Hong Kong. Since we wanted variety, we decided to order à la carte instead of their $105 Peking duck dinner set. We ordered: - Sautéed Pea Shoots with Minced Garlic ($16.50) - Salt Baked Free Range Chicken ($16, half) - Beef Stew Cooked in Clear Broth ($15) - Fish Fillet with Creamed Corn Sauce ($13.95) - Fish Fillet with Vegetables ($13.95) - Salt and Pepper Pork Chops ($14.50) - Seafood Eggplant Clay Pot ($16.50) - Rice x 5 ($8.25) The pea shoots were excellent! They were extremely fresh and not fibrous. The minced garlic added a nice fragrance and taste to the shoots. The salt baked chicken looked very small (kind of like large Cornish game hen). Then we realized free range chicken are usually smaller. Taste wise, it was very good. The saltiness was baked into the chicken but it didn't dry out the meat. It remained moist and tender. The beef stew dish was a failure of epic proportion. The broth with bland despite the application of different aromatics. The meat should have been more tender. The worst was the daikon. It was fibrous and undercooked, and failed to absorb the flavorless broth. Fish fillet with creamed corn sauce was very good. Large pieces of white fish were battered and deep fried to golden brown perfection. The sauce, made with creamed corn and egg flower, had the right consistency. The batter maintained its crunchiness even those most of the pieces were covered with the sauce. The fish fillet with vegetables dish was also very good. The fish was moist and seasoned well. The choy sum was very tender. The salt and pepper pork chops came in a massive pile. The chops were lean and quite meaty. Not overly greasy. Great salt and pepper taste. The seafood eggplant clay pot was great with rice. The sauce was very tasty. Eggplant pieces were cooked soft and absorbed the sauce well. Fresh seafood (white fish, shrimp, and calamari) was used and tasted fine. After we finished our meal, complementary dessert (sweet red bean soup with tapioca) was brought to us. It was served room temperature. The sweetness was just right and the consistency was excellent. The staff was friendly. I thought they did an adequate job. With T/T, it came out to $145. We all agreed that the food was overall very good (6 out of 7 dishes). I can see myself coming here again. If you find yourself looking for good Cantonese food in the South Bay, this is a pretty good option.
