    Nanjing noodles
    Jinan L.

Looking for some good Nanjing duck noodles soup, we find this place in San Jose. It's in a small plaza and there are roughly 10 tables inside. It's slightly understaffed that the owner has to handle ordering, bringing dishes and check out altogether. The dishes come with a good portion, nonetheless to say, it's slightly expensive too. We order a half of duck and two noodles, ending up to be $40-50 per person. The dishes are all too salty for us. In addition, we doubted that they put too much MSG that we don't feel comfortable with our throats the next day.

    炸醬麵

Minimum ingredients huge price on 炸酱面. A bit of sauce, a bit of julian cur cucumber and some noodles will set you back $15. No other vegetables and no meat. Be aware that this restaurant does not serve Old Beijing style dry noodle with sauce and you will feel cheated.

It is an unassuming restaurant (more like a take out fast food place) couple doors down from Dan Izakaya. We went there for lunch and we were the only people eating in. They did have a lot togo order though. We ordered the Nanjang salt duck because of all the raved reviews on yelp and we were not disappointed. It did not taste fatty at all. Also ordered Pork Belly with tofu skin knots, eggplant with garlic sauce and the Shanghai rice cake with mustard green. All the food tasted good and the portion was decent. I would have to go back to try other dishes. They do seem to have a good variety of dishes, from green onion cake to dim sum.

My son and I have been on a quest to find a good Chinese restaurant. We did not one here. The restaurant is not very clean. The glass entry door alone hasn't been cleaned for ages. Not a good sign. The food was horrible. I showed the waiter their Yelp pictures of dishes we were interested in. He confirmed they were correct. They were nothing like the pictures. Moreover the Salt and Pepper pork ribs were burned and the chili chicken came in tiny pieces rather that the appetizing looking strips in the picture. (comp pics attached) Chow main was overly sweet and had way too cooking wine used.

    Soy braised pork leg

We've been buying the steamed buns since last year; our family members including kids like their 'baozi' which are made home style with slightly chewy dough filled generously with various meat and/or vegetarian fillings. Kids primarily like the pork and cabbage bao while all others are yummy too. Fresh made ones are $2 each/frozen from previous day are $1.5 each with limited choices. Recently we ventured into the family combo of three dishes chosen from a list for $45 cash (price raised from $40 since May 1st). We've tried three times so far and were mostly happy with the food. They are quite generous with the potions, not overly seasoned, nothing too fancy but decent home cooked style dishes. Certain dishes such as mushu pork can be greasy so we had to drain the extra oil before eating... Last night we ordered the soy braised pork leg as one of the three dishes and was very impressed with the quality and the huge quantity. Service is very friendly and efficient, this is a family owned business offering reasonably priced, good quality food. Will be back again when we wanted some varieties without having to do more shopping and cooking.

Toilet is little slippery, but at least it is clean when I get in. Not many places offer duck blood vermicelli soup. I do think the soup is a little bit lack of flavor and too much white pepper. On the good side, you can get really full with this and they provide Vinegar and spicy oil for you. It is a little bit hot inside, I should they open fan or something during day time. Toilet: 3/5 little bit slippery Food: 4/5 duck blood is my favorite Staff: friendly, feel free to chat with them.

$40 for 3 items to go menu

$40 for 3 dishes takeout and cash only. I was pleasantly surprised they included rice. This is a really good deal and I commend them for offering decent Chinese family meals. I got the salt and pepper fish, Shanghai pork ribs, and Mongolian beef. For food taste, it's about 3.5 stars. My wife didn't like the pork but I did. It was a little sweet and slightly tangy. There are lots of little rib bones so it's a bit messy to eat. The Mongolian beef lacked a little flavor and kick, but the fish was pretty good. We air fried it at home and glad we did because you can see there is a lot of oil in them. I love the no frills ordering (+0.5 star). The transaction was very quick. I don't even remember if they took my name or gave me a receipt. They confirmed my order, gladly took my $40, and I came back 15 minutes later all ready to go.

So good! There's been a number of Chinese resturants that have popped up in the Bay that are chains and while they are highly reviewed on Yelp, imo they have a more generic, fast food chain vibe where everything tastes the same b/c the recipes and the spices used are all standardized If you want food that tastes home cooked and unique (southern Chinese but not Cantonese) I'd highly recommend Sweet Home Kitchen for their specialties. The duck was the meatiest I've had and their mushu pork is my favorite of any rendition I've ever had. This dish is eaten with rice and not wraps in this part of China so it doesn't come with wraps and imo its better with rice b/c it soaks up the fragrant and unami sauce. The owner was so sweet and I can't wait to come back to try other things here. Highly recommended if you want to try more regional Chinese cooking!

Food is flavored perfectly. Not too much salt, sugar or oil. Was surprised to have some good diversity of foods and still made authentically. Service is swift and courteous. We've been here twice and feel the quality is decent with great value. The inside of the restaurant is simple and clean. This is an easy go to for their family meal offer. Perfect for the nights we just can't cook and want a homey meal.

This is a tiny restaurant and very popular based on how crowded it was. The menu looked authentic and it does not have the usual American Chinese food like sweet and sour chicken. I picked up some chow mein and dumplings and they were very good. The lady who helped me was very nice.

okay so I was beyond hungry.... I may or may not have eaten before taking this photo but the food was AMAZING! Service was also very fast! And the staff were incredibly happy, serving food with a smile that's all a customer could ask for ! pretty great pricing too! I spend $19 and some change. Not only is this dinner but also lunch for tomorrow since I'll have leftovers for sure.

A hidden gem of a family shop, serving delicious Chinese food at pretty affordable prices. It's a fairly small spot, but it's homey with a hectic energy inside. Full menu spread is huge, but they hit up all the Nanjing notes pretty well (like duck blood and salted duck) and even get the spicy stuff from elsewhere pretty darn good too. Definitely a keeper; when I finished the meal I just wanted to try out other dishes of theirs! It's not a huge place, but service was curteous when speaking with staff, even if they'll possibly shout back to the kitchen ask if they still have certain dishes. I personally love that feel, but to each their own. Hot tea is complimentary, which I swear is getting to be more a rarity in California these days, lovely mellow with grassy notes. Flavors run strong on salt with a touch of sweet and generally well balanced throughout. =Salted Duck - 5/5 I was hoping to get roasted duck, but they ran out so we went with the Nanjing regional specialty of salt water duck. This boi is so plump and juicy it's pretty easy to get hooked if you're into game meats, though it's admittedly hard to eat too much due to the saltiness. I know not of legitimate flavor profiles beyond the basics, but it was darn good. FYI, whole duck also literally means whole duck, head and neck included. =XLB - 4/5 My only real critique is unfortunately their propensity to leak as the dough is a tad thin, as on the flavor front it's all full marks. It's not the greatest when you ~30% leaks but these were very much on point. At this price it's kind of bonkers that you're getting some pretty legit dumplings with one heck of a meaty bite and hearty soup to them. =Stir fried string beans (spicy) - 5/5 Surprisingly spicy! They had the full complement of dried peppers and sichuan peppercorn and the beans were seared well. Some of the pieces were dare I say too dry but the crunchy bits grew on me over the course of the meal. Could stand to be a bit less salty but still excellent dish. =Twice cooked pork loin - 5/5 Looks spicy but ends up having a moderate amount of heat. Whoever is stir-frying stuff up has excellent skill, you can definitely taste the wonderful aromas of the dish as you dig in. I'd liken this to the chinese equivalent of having *really* well done home fries, where you get taters that are just so soaked with greasy flavor goodness it's absolutely heavenly. Sort of. With slices of porky bits floating about.
