We love Top Sushi! We have been going to the Richmond location for 7-8 years before it closed down. This place has a great happy hour menu. All day Sunday! We always order the Calamari and crispy cucumbers. Both really delicious!! Don't skip on the Monkey Brain. The yellowtail sushi is delicious!. The rice used to make the sushi is soo good. My go to sushi place! Prices lean on the higher side but they offer both a Happy Hour in the afternoon and a Reverse Happy Hour during the last few hours of the day. Bar beverages are strong, sashimi is always fresh, and all of their sushi rolls are fantastic! My favorites are the Louis V (Cooked Salmon with spicy cream cheese) and the Viva Las Vegas (A slightly fried and cooked fish roll) Pascha(?), our most recent server was very attentive and offered a complimentary dessert when he overheard that it was my birthday. We've been coming here for over 10 years, and while the food and service have always been hit or miss, it became a family tradition for us. Unfortunately, today was the worst experience we've ever had. I ordered the same items I've ordered for years (Volcano roll, Super Crunchy roll, and crab puffs). The crab puffs had large, unmelted chunks of cream cheese, the Volcano roll came out with what looked like popcorn on top, and the scallops were badly overcooked. The food was inedible. When I asked for a replacement, the waitress took the plate and said she needed to speak with her manager. The food never came back. There was no apology, no follow-up, and no acknowledgment, even as I stood by the table holding my baby. I eventually had to stop the manager myself just to get our check. We've always given grace due to frequent staff changes, but this experience was unacceptable. Sadly, this may be the end of our Top Sushi family tradition. read more

To the owners, The manager who was working Friday, June 12th, 2026 around 12pm needs to be fired immediately. Cypress Location - Barker Cypress I come to this restaurant very often to get sushi and brussel sprouts, that day I decided I wanted to try something new, the shrimp steamed dumplings, I personally did not enjoy them and ask my server if he can remove it from the table, then he proceeds to ASK ME if I wanted a discount, and I responded with if possible. I believe he went to go communicate that to her, and she immediately approached my table with aggression and proceed to tell me that she won't be able to do anything about it because I've already ate half of my brussels sprouts. For one I never mentioned anything about not wanting my brussels sprouts or not enjoying them. And second, I wasn't even expecting any sort of discount for the food. I did not enjoy although that is just being a great person in customer service in my opinion. It was the fact that she had tried to find any indicator to create a sort of conflict that was truly unnecessary. I still ended up paying for the dumplings even after I explained to her I just simply did not like the dumplings, I believe if that was going to be the result, regardless, then she didn't have to approach me in such a manner where I felt unwelcome to even come back or in fact at all. I'm a huge fan of the truc roll so I will be back for that however I hope that she is fired and I never have to see her face again in that establishment. I used to come here for YEARRRRRSSSSSSSSSS, like 10 years. I've had multiple birthdays here. And recently it's been difficult to even eat here. 1. My best friend and I got all dressed up for her birthday to eat here. With her family otw to too sushi. We called to ask if there was wait times for a party of 6, for them to tell us they were completely closed down for a private event? The whole restaurant. So our party of 6 franticly tried looking for a place to eat for her birthday. It was Dec 9th so I gave them the benefit of the doubt saying maybe it was an employee Christmas party? Idk 2. Now I sit outside top sushi looking for a place for dinner cause they wouldn't seat us cause they closed in 30 mins. I truly always feel bad for going in before close but I've never had anyone tell us we can't cause they close in 30 mins. Like you are still open for 30 mins!?! Do your closing duties after the doors are locked not DURING business hours. Hopefully 3rd times a charm. What gets me the most out of all our years we've seen people walk in 10/15!!! I come here often because the food and drinks are good. However, the service is really slow!!! Ok this current Sunday, there's 1 waiter on the floor. But the 2 hostess are just doing "their job". There isn't good team work. There's no way for 1 guy to service and attend to the entire restaurant!! Meanwhile the hostesses have their back to the restaurant. My son's name is Asher, so naturally we had to try that one, and it was SO GOOD! We also got the Bobster roll, which was also very good, but we both agreed we preferred the Asher. My only (small) complaints are that they didn't seem to care that it was my son's birthday, and didn't offer any sort of treat, but I know that isn't standard anymore... and our soda's were so flat. While the amount of fish in any piece of sushi is small, this was still of high-quality and not old or "fishy". This succulent shrimp coated with Panko breadcrumbs and fried till golden brown on a stick comes with a unique mild spicy purée for dipping. Crunchy on the outside yet tender in the inside. I ordered 4 Classic rolls (cooked) and 1 Specialty Roll (cooked) California Roll: classic type of inside-out sushi roll with vinegared rice on the outside of the roll, filled with cucumber, crab and avocado. Very fresh and held together great. Shaggy Dog: The combination of tempura shrimp cucumber and crab meat with the tangy unagi and spicy mayo sauces makes this roll a grand slam. Again, fresh and held together very well. Rock N Roll: reminded me somewhat of the Shaggy dog without the unagi and extra crunch. Nice size pieces covered with masago and crunchies. TNT roll: Crab, avocado, cucumber all topped with baked fish, crunchies, Unagi sauce and spicy mayo. This roll was full of flavor snd very fresh. We came on a Thursday, during Covid, at 4pm! They have happy hour from 4pm-7pm every day and also reverse happy hour as well -- definitely take advantage of the happy hour!! In order of most unique and tasty - jalapeño poppers, crab puffs, fried calamari, and then egg rolls. The jalapeño poppers were stuff with crab meat and spicy Mayo! The crab puffs was cream cheese and imitation crab - more on the sweet side. The fried calamari was crispy and not oily at all - sauce was good. The egg rolls were crispy and fresh. Crab puffs and egg rolls were served with a sweet & sour sauce - more on the watery side but flavor was there! All the rolls we got were great and you definitely want to read the menu as it is extensive. My husband and his parents' favorite was the big boy country roll - fried chicken in sushi! My favorite was definitely the crab crunch roll. The golden pig had pork belly in the sushi roll - it was good but it seemed to be the only thing wrapped in the sushi (big portion of the pork belly though). I am so amazed by this restaurant. As someone who typically eats at Omakase restaurants, this sushi restaurant was quite an experience. They have very reasonable and affordable sushi. There's a reverse happy hour special which we took advantage of since we arrived after 9pm. Their speciality rolls are delicious but what sealed the deal for me is their chopped scallop sushi.
