It's convenient, but we found a spot south of my house for awhile from a bad service with attitudes last time that I forgot about to come back. Don't get me wrong, the spot, the bar, host/hostess are cool, the food is good, just hasn't been so great in service nor apple marti inis. My friend was ordering from Happy Hour menu, the spot had very few tables when we got in and it was less than half full by the time we left. Nice neighborhood sushi place to catch up with my girlfriend. I wouldn't say it's the best grade of sushi quality but it was not too shabby. We ordered quite a lot! Eyes bigger than our stomach apparently. I liked the miso soup a lot, came out piping hot with extra scallions and mushrooms. Food was okay but service was definitely on point! Nam was great. We came around 10 pm Saturday and the place was pretty full however there was no wait at all. The waitress was really polite and nice. She had an accent that I think she was from Russia. She has a great a memory remembering all of our orders. It was reverse happy hour We ordered the shaggy dog, Philadelphia roll, spicy tuna roll, fried rice and had some Sakai (not sure if I spelled this right. I'll go ahead and blame AutoCorrect for this one LOL). Some of the rolls for this happy hour for about $1.75. Also some of the other one piece rolls were about three dollars. First time I came I got food poisoning from one of their rolls that had craw fish in it and they're vents on the ceiling was extremely dusty. I have been going to this location on Barker Cypress for the last 3 years. This will be the second year I have my birthday dinner. Every time I go to eat sushi here I get the best experience. Every roll I've tried is amazing super fresh packed with flavors. The entrees of teriyaki chicken and steak are perfect to share a warm meal while enjoying sushi rolls. Best of both worlds the happy hour makes it easy for me to visit more often $ is worth it for date night. Not a bad sushi restaurant, but it could definitely use lots of improvement. Space: Walking in and was STUNNED, as this restaurant is beautifully designed on the inside. Located in a strip center, it doesn't seem like much from the outside. Parking is shared with the other businesses, but I don't see it getting filled to capacity. Nice bar when you enter, a fish tank, and a decent amount of seating. Came during HH, which was nice since they have 30% off most rolls, as well as drink & app specials. They also do a reverse happy hour and are open until at least 11 on most nights. Appetizers:Baked mussels here are a definite pass. They don't clean the actual mussel off the shells, and leave the little anchor muscle part in. Pretty sure they just bake it in Japanese mayo, no sriracha, no smelt roe, not even a nice char on top. Just goopy clumps of heated up mayo and tons of water from the mussel. Jalapeno poppers were also just okay, the tempura batter definitely didnt cling to the jalepeno very well. Sushi Rolls: Usually don't order many rolls since I prefer sashimi, but I figured I didn't want to chance it in case the fish wasn't super fresh. Orders the King Casper roll and the Fami-le roll. King Casper roll has cream cheese nestled inside a flash fried roll with salmon and topped with imitation crap. Probably my favorite thing that was eaten. Fami-le roll was shrimp tempura, with salmon and avocado on the outside, topped with tuna. Ehh. just okay. Volcano roll was ick. Literally just lumps of scallops with more japanese mayo. Now I know everyone has their variation of the Volcano roll, but generally spicy mayo is used, not just regular mayo. Too globby and definitely didn't seem baked AT ALL. Service: Really good service, but I imagine that's because I came during a random time, and there were tons of people working. Gripes: Who charges extra for eel sauce? Sure, the waiter said it'd be extra, but NO ONE DOES THIS. I will definitely give them another try since it just opened and hopefully their food gets better. read more

There's no need for us night owls to trek inside the loop for awesomely priced libations. Top Sushi also offers RHH all day on Sundays. Here's what you have to try off the HH menu: Monkey Brains Jalapeño Poppers Any cocktail of your choice for approximately $5 The atmosphere is as dressy or casual as you make it. It rains Yelp stars when I can walk in wearing sweats or heels and not feel out of place either way. The inside is much trendier than the shopping strip leads on. I've been for lunch, RHH, and dinner --- each visit has been consistent for both quality and service. I've sat at the bar with girlfriends, in a booth with my family, and outside alone. Each time I've left with a happy belly. Insert happy face here. Most recently,my extended family came in to celebrate my nephew's high school graduation. We reserved the front room (super trendy) and though it kinda felt like we were lunching in a fish bowl, it was perfect. Service was great and it was nice have a little private area to ourselves. I provided the manager with a few sushi topper decorations (see pictures) and he made sure my nephew's plate came out nice and festive. We went here because Top Sushi sponsored my school's (Dean Middle School) soccer team this past season. I've been meaning to try it, and my husband and I finally got to have a date night. It was fabulous. We had the monkey brains and the kickin' mane for an appetizer. They were both delicious! We split 3 rolls- the Sea Dragon, the Hot Mama, and one I can't remember, but it had tuna in it and was wrapped in cucumber slices. It was super fresh! All of the rolls were great, but my favorite was the Sea Dragon. Hubby liked the cucumber wrapped one the best. Oh... And he also had the seaweed salad. I ordered delivery through the Uber Eats app and after 50 minutes of waiting, my food finally arrived. I ordered their hand roll combo and as i was taking the tuna out of the tuna hand roll, I found an INSECT nesting in the middle of the roll. As I looked closer it was a DEAD FLY in the rolled up along with the rest of the ingredient. Absolutely disgusted I took some pictures and threw the food in the garbage. Food- 3 Stars They have a lot of imaginative rolls, some of them hit and some of them miss. Overall the fish itself I would give a B- rating- good but not great. This place is clearly aimed at the 'Murican consumer (tons and tons of roll selection, lot's of sauces and crunchies used). Overall I find it heavy handed and they would do themselves well to remove about 1/2 the menu and focus on making the other half more cleanly and consistently. Service- 4.5 Stars Usually very attentive and friendly without being over bearing. Atmosphere- 4 Stars Nice if not a little out of place (dark and clubish). I like the big fish tank in the middle of entrance. There is a private room as well. Value- 3 Stars They get you good for the specialty rolls. So exciting to have a nice sushi joint so close now and I'm very impressed all around... First, you walk in and boom there's this awesome fish tank/aquarium piece featured, which is kind of ironic and honestly that only made me hungrier. Service was great, they were always refilling water and asking how the food was, etc, very friendly and attentive. Food was one of the best meals I've had, and I can see myself being a regular here, I could eat sushi everyday. Went generic since it was my first time and I have some staple things to test any sushi place. Had a rainbow roll, crunchy crab roll and 3 orders of sashimi: octopus, bluefin tuna, and yellowtail. It goes without saying that everything was super fresh and just so incredibly tasty and on their white presentation plates they looked out of this world good. So I feel confident about their quality and will start experimenting with their menu next time, monkey brains sounded fun. Also tried the veggie tempura which came out steaming hot and all food was on par with other top sushi (no pun intended lol) places I've been to like uchi. I can't think of a closer quality sushi place than this, and I'm sure this will become a regular place like we had in Austin. Be careful with your wording to the waiter though, I somehow miscommunicated what I wanted, I said I want one piece each of yellowfin, mackerel and tuna sashimi and pointed to it on the menu (left side) but somehow they came out with a 15 piece sashimi plate (instead of 3) including octopus and minus the mackerel that I said, but everything else was correct. Weird part is I even double checked when I placed the order, "that's just one piece of each right?", and the waiter said yes. So I didn't say anything and went with it and was in the end so happy (and sad when the bill came). I had almost convinced myself that this was some special that I was getting, that one 'piece' was just cut into 5 pieces, I know I should've just said 'this is wrong fix it' but I went with it mainly since once they cut it, that's that?! Like when you break something you pay for it. So I thought the bill was going to be maybe 25, but instead it was 75, ouch!
