I love sushi. I love alcohol. I absolutely love Top Sushi. They have one of the best happy hours around. The menu has a good variety of discounted beverages and food to munch on after you've left your job tired and frustrated. My favorite drink here is the peachy lychee. You really only need two of these to turn your frown upside down for an hour or so. Their salmon hand rolls are yummy as well. I've never gotten anything that I have disliked. Aside from the good food and drinks, their customer service is amazing and their restrooms are very clean. They have two happy hours 3-7 and 9-close, so you need to check this place out. read more

We were super excited and ready to have some sushi and relax however, beware.. their prices are wack. Rip off for sure!! Charges 18% gratuity for service that wasn't that great.. I am very disappointed because my husband and I recently just moved back to the area and are looking for some great places nearby... this will not be our place for sure our waiter was sweet but he went MIA for a bit and our drinks forever to get to us even with the place being half empty... The sushi was fresh and hand made. Other than that, it was lack-luster and overpriced. The waitress was very nice and knowledgable about the menu. When first walking in, I was greeted by the bartender and seated by another employee. Ordering was quick and easy, but the wait was average time. It wasn't busy today, so I got my food quicker than expected. I love anything salmon and opted to try the Salmon, Smoked Salmon, and Pepper Salmon Nigiri along with a Philadelphia Roll. The Salmon and Smoked Salmon tasted fine, while the Pepper Salmon had a little too much pepper for my liking. The Philadelphia Roll was okay, but they put a little too much cream cheese. Considering it's one of the few sushi restaurants in the area, I opted to try it since I needed lunch and finished an afternoon class. Although being a college student, I don't mind spending a little if it means I'll get good food, but the sushi was not worth the price here. I would rather drive down to the Bellaire/Westheimer area where I can get the same options and just as good or even better quality but at a far better price. First time trying sushi and it was amazing! Of course i opt'd in to the cooked sushi. I ordered a rock n roll, spider and the big country crunch (or something like that. It's a specialty roll). Also ordered a mai tai and Long Island to drink. For starters, the place is dark with dim lighting so it really sets the mood of "elegance", i liked it. The rock n roll sushi was so good, my favorite out the three ordered, then the Big Crunch, then to my least favorite, the spider. (They were all still pretty good) The Big Crunch had fried chicken avocados cream cheese and this crunchy topping that was soooo delicious!!! The drinks were super strong and soooo good!!! And cheap too! With all that ordered our total bill was about $45 which is great bc my boyfriend and I both got full off of it. This is a great place, very nice and clean. This had good reviews so we decided to check it out. Our server was very attentive and could recommend some items to our taste. The food was served quickly and very delicious. We ordered the Louis V roll and the dragon roll and they were both delicious and fresh. The atmosphere is very chill and they were playing music at the perfect volume. I recently moved to this side of town and I did some research on yelp and I found this spot. The ambiance is quite nice. As you walk in you have a bar towards the front followed by a super nice fish tank. The hostess are very nice and greet you well. There's plenty of screens so it's nice if you want to have a drink and watch a nice Sunday game. There's booth seating and regular table seating. I ordered the Viva Las Vegas sushi roll and the scorpion roll and I was definitely impressed. One of my friends tried the Hawaiian and that one was pretty good as well. They kind of fail now when it comes to their cooked food. I ordered the ribeye and it wasn't ribeye, it was flank steak wrapped around carrots. My friend ordered the chicken teriyaki and it was questionable. The vegetables weren't very good and the salad was a little heavy on the ginger taste. Now, the sushi was good. The pepper tuna had great color and great taste, the tuna frenzy roll was very good as well. I don't think the sushi chefs were very experienced but they did their best and were very polite. There was a bit of a wait or we could just sit at the sushi bar with no wait , which we took that option. Happy hour menu had many of the sushi hand rolls that I enjoy trying at every sushi place. I usually judge my sushi places by how they cut and season spicy tuna HR or roll. Many different variations that I have tried and it always brings me back to this one place that I won't bring up. Good sushi and great happy hour/reverse happy hour deals. Top Sushi is one of the only restaurants in the area that opens past 10pm. The only time I ever come to Top Sushi is during their reverse happy hour on the weekends. When all the other places are closed, Top Sushi starts to get busy. I waited almost 30 minutes for a table for 4 at 10:30pm on Saturday night. Prefacing: Gave two stars because I haven't been in the restaurant since about when it opened, so I don't know how the service is. This is from a recent to-go order. I ordered a few rolls (Philadelphia HRs, Viva Las Vegas, and the Golden Pig) along with the stir fried udon for my girlfriend and me. The Philadelphia rolls seemed to turn out alright. However, the other two rolls had really off textures and taste; the Viva Las Vegas, which my girlfriend had, made her feel sick so she stopped after a few slices. For the Golden Pig I had the eel sauce taken off since I'm not a fan of it, but the rest sounded really good (e.g. braised pork, green onions, 'crunch', rice). The braised pork had an off, sour taste and smell to it. The "crunch" had a fur-like texture to it and had no crispy/crunchiness to it. I made sure the pork was the source of the sourness by eating it alone. The stir fried udon also tasted strangely sour, but not in the same way as the Golden Pig. The beef I got with it was the issue; it also tasted old. The Golden Pig eventually made me sick that night. Gave the place this second try because the first time I went in-person was pretty good - a minimum 4/5. I'm not sure if I had a bad, unlucky experience this time, but it was too bad to give it another shot and see. I would avoid what I would order, at least. read more

The monkey brain is so good. I have ordered it at least 3x. I only order to go because I don't want anyone seeing me opening my mouth so big to squeeze each wedge into my mouth. Avacado, crab, eel sauce and a thin crunchy layer on the outside. One out of the three times I ordered monkey brain it was soggy. I have also ordered the combo Japanese fried rice! So D-Lisa! The chicken has a smoked flavor and the shrimp was perfectly cooked. I minuses the beef. I was so not in the mood to chew beef. Yesterday I ordered Katsu chicken, what a waist of $14. It's suppose to be breaded chicken topped with bbq sauce, comes with veggies and steamed rice. The veggies were not Chou and broccoli (really good) but the chicken taste like imitation frozen breaded patty that they chopped up! Yuk! The reason I did not give 5 stars is because, sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not. Also for cleanliness. The servers were coming over to the bar with filthy glasses getting refills. Talking the ice scoop to put more ice in a dirty glass and the scoop touching the rim of the glass. Gnats flying around the bar just nasty. The restrooms were clean though. Oh I forgot the drinks were on point! My first time there I had a martini and hot saki . They could step up their customer service too, towards single Black ladies like me. Waiting a good minute for someone to ask me for my order the first visit. But the next group of people were seated right away by the owner. He was chilling on the side the whole time. Don't let the strip center store front keep you away. It's a very nice ambiance inside. You'll greeted with a beautiful fish tank. My kids and I have been a few times and each visit is TOP Notch.
