I am usually a huge fan of toppings. When I lived in Malibu, I was a regular at the Pacific Palisades location. At that location, I usually have a difficult time picking between 3 flavors I love there: Vanilla custard, honey Greek, and graham cracker. This location had none of these. I was disappointed by the lack of flavors in comparison to the Palisades location. Their toppings bar also pales in comparison to the Palisades location. It is called Toppings, for goodness sake. You would think that they would at least have animal crackers and more candy. I would definitely return to the location in the Palisades, but not this one. I can't even say it is comparable to Yogurtland or Menchies, two frozen yogurt franchises I do not think are as good as Toppings, but this location does not even offer many of the toppings these stores do. Very good kosher fro yo and a wide variety of toppings at "Toppings" ! They do have good hot chocolate as well as belgian waffles and some other goodies. The staff is friendly and its a nice neighborhood joint. I came here with a friend during Hannukah and it was nice to sit down and relax with friends. People here talk to eachother like its a bar, which is really kind of cool. You can sit back and have a conversation with other people in ice cream shop. Toppings is a great mom and pop fro yo shop in Beverly Hills.! Its a good place to find frozen yoghurt outside of the "Pinkberry Propaganda Machine" that has colonized strip malls throughout the southland.. read more

This is one GREAT yogurt shop. Unlike Pinkberry, Yogurtland, even the Bigg Chill, Toppings is and feels like a neighborhood spot where locals go regularly and bump into friends. Every single time I go I run into someone. I'm thinking about starting a Toppings Takeover Tuesday at 8 to help ensure we bump into each other "on schedule." :) Besides, I want this place to be packed because I want to see it stick around for awhile. The quality of the yogurt is great. I love that you can get your tart Pinkberry-esque flavors if you want to go the healthier route or eat yogurt for dinner, but usually if given the option, I almost always go for their more traditional sweet dessert yogurt flavors - like peanut butter, or Irish mint, or chocolate (or all of the above). The toppings bar is fantastic - so many choices that if you're an indecisive person, it's going to be the end of you. I suppose you could get a little bit of everything, but you will be rolling home in a food coma. I happen to be a pretty indecisive person, so from one indecisive person to another, here's what I recommend to you: Come back often enough that you don't need to gorge on everything at once. Oh, and fair warning, this place has cheesecake bites to sprinkle on top! Toppings, you're killing me! The owners are a husband and wife team and they're the ones you'll see EVERY time you visit Toppings. I don't know how they ever take a vacation, or even get out to a movie together! The shop hours run late, which is great for us late night snack people, but those poor owners! They're really friendly and will come up to you and offer you samples (now that's something I've never seen in competing self-serve froyo Yogurtland). One very cool thing about Toppings that it's got over most other yogurt places is that the yogurts are kosher. In fact, the entire establishment has recently been certified kosher (all they had to do was give up two toppings). That's a pretty nice treat for my kosher-keeping friends. And it's pretty smart business since Toppings is in the heart of the Pico/Robertson neighborhood. I've had Toppings for lunch, dinner, dessert, and after my run. In fact, I bring my frequent buyer card with me on my run. You know that really tiny pocket on the inside of running shorts? It's valuable real estate since there's almost no storage in the shorts, but my house key, a couple of dollars, and my Toppings card are all I need! read more

For weeks the anticipation of the "coming soon" sign seductively hung in the store window just blocks from my house was almost too much to bear...luckily, Toppings has not disappointed. As noted in other reviews, the owners are super nice and go above and beyond to offer impeccable customer service. On each pilgrimage I've made to this self-serve mecca, one of the owners has stepped out from behind the counter to give me a rundown of the available flavors and provide tester cups galore. Since I am often overwhelmed by indecisiveness, this is always greatly appreciated. They also stock a smaller cup size for those who are watching their waistline or just want a little sumthin' sumthin' to satisfy a sweet tooth. Personally, I like the flavors at Toppings a lot better than those featured at Yogurtland. Granted, I tend to lean towards the sweet stuff (dark chocolate, cappuccino, peanut butter, cookies and cream, alpine vanilla and pumpkin were all delicious) but I have had some of the tart flavors too and was sufficiently impressed. I hate it when fro-yo tastes super diet-y (i.e. full of artificial sweeteners) and in no way resembles the flavor that the name suggests. You won't find any of that nonsense here. And then there's my gluttonous side that likes to control the amount and variety of toppings. Cheesecake and cookie dough bits? LOVE IT! If you're heading north on Robertson (toward Wilshire), this place will be located on your lefthand side. Parking is a pain unless you happen to find street parking. I tried vanilla, strawberry banana, plain tart, and the dark chocolate. All of them were okay - but I have to say that Yogurtland beats Toppings in taste ....and price too. Toppings isn't expensive (at 39 cents) per ounce, but none of the flavors I tried would have me going back for more. The mochi was also mushy instead of chewy. Service was very friendly though. They also have several tables to sit and relax - one being miniture sized for the kiddies (cute!). read more

The reason this place has a higher rating than the one I'm giving it, is because the people who actually go to Toppings don't go other yogurt spots. This place draws a lot of loud screaming kids stuffing their faces while their parents frantically try to keep them in check by being equally as obnoxious. As friendly as the owners/staff are, the man who runs the place often makes you feel like you're being more supervised than helped, although he definitely is helpful. Since Toppings went Kosher, a lot of their great (and expected) 'toppings' disappeared, and so did my frequent visits. The frozen yogurt is rarely updated, only offering very plain and unoriginal varieties. All in all, if you're in the neighborhood and want some yogurt, go ahead and stop by, but don't expect much if you've been to a self-serve frozen yogurt joint before. read more

One five pound pile of froyo and fixin's later and I'm in love. Much to the same problem I have with love, I keep making the same mistake. I try to work in Peanut butter fro yo with some tart flavor. Every time I go it is without fail. Not that it's a terrible creation, it just has a funny taste to it. Perhaps I should actually take the offer from the owner the next time and ask for help in making my frozen yogurt mixture. Or at least try the mixture before I commit. He is really helpful and friendly. And what goes better on fro yo than the name of this place? Now this isn't the typical Pink Berry Bull, you serve yourself how ever many toppings you want. Much like the Pirates ride at Disney, these fine folks are selling it by the pound! So be creative. Certainly is freeing to pile on as much as you want. Careful now. Just like when you're in love, pile it on too much too soon and you'll be heading for an ache.. in this case, a stomach one. But what is L'amour without risk, right? I'm sure I'll continue to come in here with a sweet tooth and still put peanut butter flavored fro yo in my cup before realizing what mistakes I made in the past... and I'll still continue to shallow my ice cream, as well as my pride, and enjoy it. Because in love just like in life, isn't it all about the journey? How you get to that end point. Not so much that you actually do, but how you deal with the steps there? Toppings isn't your run of the mill DIY frozen yogurt joint, it's DIY with a kick. Not only do they offer a variety of flavors & toppings, they also offer: Hot chocolate, coffee, iced or hot, smoothies, & brace yourself....made to order Belgium waffles. YUM! Of course, as is the case with all frozen yogurt places, some flavors are a hit or miss. They don't have AS many toppings as some of their competitors but they are open to suggestions, actually encourage it. The staff is very friendly & are refreshingly nice. The interior is really clean, with a funky vibe going on. Strangely similar to the story of Goldilocks and the 3 bears, not all the seats are the same height & size - the 1st chair was too big, the 2nd chair too small, the 3rd chair JUST RIGHT - well, similar besides the part where the chair breaks into pieces! Toppings is also certified Kosher, which is cool for my kosher only eating friends. The only con I can think of is that it's a bit, 9 cents to be exact, more expensive then Yogurtland, but it's definitely worth a try if you're in the neighborhood. read more

Toppings just opened up the street from my office, and I LOVE IT!! The flavors are great (Alpine Vanilla, Strawberry tart, Dark Chocolate, Capuccino - just to name a few), and they have great toppings (obviously)! My first pick was a mix of Dark Chocolate and Capuccino, and topped it with nuts, fresh raspberries, and fresh strawberries. Awesome - and only $3.50. I mean c'mon. Then, this morning, the line at Starbucks was WAY too long, and I remembered that Toppings has coffee too - and it's $1.50 for a 16oz (Grande) cup. CHEAPER than starbucks! The owner is very friendly and helpful, everything is really clean and nice, and the quality of everything is eally top-notch. I love it!! read more

Wow, people are really complaining that the yogurt is $.09 more expensive per ounce and that they have to ask for a sample cup? This place is so clean you could have to sample the yogurt off the floor and I'd still gladly pay the tad extra! Besides, location = higher rent = slightly higher overhead. It's why gas at a chevron in Brentwood is a buck more than in Long Beach. Jay and co. are amazing! He always says hi, remembers our names, details about our week, etc. We get stamp cards and bring cash so we can always tip a bit extra. Even when he's not there the girls who run things in the afternoon are amazingly friendly, the only high school age staff i've met in LA who smile, are prompt with requests, and don't look like they'd rather be listening to their iPod than helping you. Flavors beat anywhere I've been, but then I'm a simpleton too. Give me peanut butter, mint chip, cookies and cream, or their blueberry tart, just one flavor, with a few precise toppings, and I'm a happy camper. Can't praise this place enough. Ok, so I have to admit, their yogurt is actually really good. I think they pretty much have the same toppings as Yogurtland too. However, here is why I will still be going to Yogurtland still even though this place is much more convenient to my house. 1. They are more expensive for the same thing. 2. When I came in, this girl practically attacked me, asking if I wanted a sample. When I said okay, instead of giving me the little cup like Yogurtland, she got it for me, (I guess I was too dumb to do it myself), then proceeded to watch me get my yogurt from like a foot away. Super nice, super friendly mom and pop shop, but in an increasing competitive market of self-serve frozen yogurt shops, you gotta find that edge. I've been to Toppings a ton of times, and enjoyed it, but I've also walked in, looked at the selection of flavors and turned around and walked out. So it's hit or miss for me. However, last time I was there it was a hit. Snickdoodle flavor. It would the flavor to end the discussion, but the flavor name was written in by hand, leading me to believe it may only be a one time thing. How can I know? Yes, I should've asked but I was too busy stuffing my face with the cinnamon-sugary fro-yo. The problem is none of the other flavors really do it for me and the selection is limited, however they never skimp on the variety of toppings (hence the name). The place is kosher certified and they also make solid waffles, which is a unique offering. But not knowing what I will be in for, makes it difficult for me to crave going to this place and will unfortunately take a back seat to Yogurtland when it comes to frozen yogurt. But if you want to avoid the scene/crowd/lines, Toppings is a suitable alternative. read more

The only thing I would change is allowing customers to obtain samples without assistance from an employee. I understand the reason behind this, but it is my personal preference. Southern California's fanatical and somewhat crazed infatuation with froyo, frogurt, etc. has made me shrug off most frozen yogurt joints I've seen. Aren't they all the same anyways? Frozen yogurt is frozen yogurt. But Toppings is special. I've never encountered bad frozen yogurt, and this place is no different. BUT. Like their name implies, the toppings are phenomenal. I'm not just talking about the selection, but the freshness. I love loading my yogurt with fresh fruit, and that's exactly what I got. They also have a good selection of hot and cold beverages compared to other frozen yogurt places, and freshly made WAFFLES!! I was super excited about that. I'm not sure if they let you put frozen yogurt on your waffle, but dude, I would totally do it. Like most yelpers have said, the customer service is stellar. The people who work here are incredibly sweet. I was greeted when I walked in the door, I was assisted with sampling flavors, I was asked if I needed help, asked about my day, thanked for coming, and acknowledged by a "have a good day, ma'am" as I walked out the door. They truly delight in their customers, and not just in a kiss-ass kinda way either. As for the guy who gets your samples for you, I found him extremely helpful (unlike some other yelpers--to each their own I guess). I've never been to a yogurt place that lets you take your own samples; I've always had to cut in line and ask for a sample cup from the people behind the counter, and having the sample guy right next to the frozen yogurt is much more convenient/less awkward. There were also about half a million little brats running around, which is probably the major reason why they have the sample guy there. Do you honestly want little kiddos grabbing at sample cups and crowding in front of the dispensers and putting their sticky little fingers all over them and dispensing their own frozen yogurt?? I came here kind of on a whim, since I work across the street from it. I was hoping that they would have some dairy free options. They only have one, but it was delicious, so I was ok with it. I was hoping there were more vegan flavors since it is advertised as such but I tried the dairy Tiramisu flavor and it was nice as well. If you are looking for a normal frozen yogurt shop then this will do just fine. The staff was nice and they have a good selection of toppings. The street parking is good and there is a crosswalk right by the front door. They should make sure there are enough cups to self serve the yogurt however. This place is a great neighborhood find. Jay and Nanette run the place, and they couldn't be sweeter of more welcoming. It only took a few times of me going there for them to remember my name. *sigh* We ladies and our cravings. I was sitting here, surfing the web in my bed, and suddenly got it "I need fro yo". I didnt need to, but i always like to think that our cravings are our friendly reminders to take our vitamins, ie esp. those which are found in food. Sure maybe i could've poured myself a glass of milk, but that's not how cravings work. Anyway, yelp was awesome in reminding me how close Toppings is to my house. It's great because you go in and right away I was prompted with sample cups, and quite honestly would've been filled with that alone. The only criticism is that there's only size bowl and its gi-normous. I would really appreciate the smaller sizes for portion control/ environmental waste. But I get it, that's not how these places do it. The fact that the owner puts his cell phone on the wall and says "Text me if there's a problem" is amazing. The owners are very nice people, the place is clean, family friendly, its Kosher (if that matters to you), and the yogurt is YUMMY!!! they always have samples available from a happy and helpful employee that will HAND you one. they SERVE you the sample, probably because they don't weirdos slopping down free samples all afternoon. They always have a fun new flavor (and tons to pick from) - and be sure to look at the sign on the wall for what might be in the back. (they can't get all the flavors out!) I have yet to try the waffles - but they look good! This place gets busy. I don't care. I'll wait. It's a family owned business and I'm happy they are busy. I've never experienced any rude employees and I've gone at all times of day - various days of the week. They have stamp cards for frequent-fliers (like me) and you get your 10th free. Prices are GREAT - cheaper than Pinkberry. it's a per-ounce charge. I walk out of there with a HUGE yogurt for $3. (my boyfriend on the other hand walks out with an $8 yogurt suitable for a small army) I love you Toppings!! read more

This is the best place for desert! I love the combinations, and the flavors. Everything here is always fresh, and delicious. Fresh Toppings constantly. The price point is great for what you get also. The service is always friendly, and they even have taster cups up front to try all their new flavors! I love Jay, he's so nice, and friendly. We don't even sit down when we come here, we just talk to Jay while we eat our yogurt, and he shares lovely stories with us. There are lots of these kinds of places popping up where you get to serve yourself from a rotating variety of frozen yogurts and then add whatever toppings you want. Their flavors are mostly delicious and their toppings range from raspberries to Cap N' Crunch and every kind of candy. You pay by the ounce and it's comparable to Coldstone but more fun. Also, the people who run the place are super-friendly and will let you try all the flavors before you begin to build your creation. One issue I have is that their toppings are all in a single line between the yogurt machines and the cash register. This set-up combined with the many many children that come in can be frustrating. Some places have a couple of toppings "stations," which is a good solution. Beware getting trapped behind a passel of teenage girls or screaming kids.
