I was skeptical about a chain, but they were great, and the cashier girl didn't rush me when I was in indecisiveness mode. I got the Wrangler and the Matador (secret menu). My friend got the Jack of Clubs. I liked the Wrangler, as it was egg-heavy, but I loved the Matador because of the brisket and the avocado! I was stuffed after those two tacos. Not impressed anymore. Used to love taking the time to get food here. Now the food is mediocre, portions are smaller, the wait time is ridiculous and it doesn't even come out like it's fresh. Went in mid afternoon, ordered 3 tacos, queso, no special requests. Took over 15 min to get the order, lots of staff not doing much, so they weren't overwhelmed, store was not very busy either with customers, drove 1 min back to my place and the food was almost cold and tasted old or like it set under a heat lamp. For $25 I expect a lot better. Obviously, I'll have to find a new place to get tacos. Too many gimmicks to their names and atmosphere and not enough true value or flavor. I've had the queso, baja shrimp, green chile pork, and the alabama shake tacos. My favorite is definitely the baja shrimp taco, loved the corn meal crusted crispy shrimp with the pickled onions, cotija cheese they sprinkle on top. Definitely the queso here, it's so delicious! Torches recently opened a new location by slaughter and escarpment and although there was a location by William Cannon and mopac, we seldom visited. Now that it's close to us in circle C we have been several times. The tacos are alway tasty ample and fresh. The restaurant is clean and has a nice outdoor dining area. It's a little pricey but has always been good quality. If you go on a nice afternoon you may not find a place outside but alway plenty of room inside. And the good thing is you can always get an egg taco!! read more

I was told this was a must go while in Austin. They did not disappoint. We ordered the hipster from the secret menu and the hillbilly. Order everything 'trashy' you won't regret it. The chips and queso are also a must order. We finished the meal with their 'nookies' which are deep fried chocolate chip cookie balls, enough said. It's Torchy's... what more do I need to say? We walk here for dinner and drinks a lot. The monthly special is fun to try and there have been a few great surprises. I like to grab breakfast tacos for dinner (I think the call it a Wrangler). We have tried a lot of different items on the menu and enjoy all of them. The green chills pork taco is another favorite of mine. We usually grab a serving of rice to share and chips with Rojos salsa. They have Butter Chardonnay in a can - sounds odd, but it is really good. Too many beers to mention, but don't hesitate to head to the bar for a draft if you don't see your favorite bottles at the register where you order. Service is always fast and friendly. Very consistent with the food and experience. I'm not sure there is a bad location, but I know for sure this is a good one! read more

This place is totally addictive. Big servings and free refills. Start with a "Dirty Sanchez" in the morning and end the day at the "Crossroads". There is a line out the door every day for a reason. I have enjoyed Torchy's Tacos at this location for many years now. This place is very popular, so especially around dinner time, be prepared for a wait to order and pick-up. A great selection of tacos to choose from with several choices of original sauces as well. You can spice up your order to match your personal taste and try new combinations as well. I only gave Torchy's 3 out of 5 stars for the following 2 reasons: 1. for the money these are very small tacos. 2. they put waaaaaay too much salt in these things, making them almost inedible sometimes, so you have to find the less salty types by trial and order and select accordingly. read more

Cold, Nearly half an hour late and with no explanation: We had ordered our meal online at about 7:25PM and it was to be picked up at 8:00PM. We get up at the counter at about 8:02PM. We were told that it would be brought out to our car. A little late at this point but not a big deal. We waited and waited. After about 15 minutes, we were concerned and went back inside and asked for an update. We were simply told, "It'll be out soon". We said that it was taking a bit longer than we would have liked but we got no explanation as to why it was delayed. Eventually, at 8:25PM we recieve our meal. We did not have a large order, simply 3 tacos and chips and queso and yet it was late by nearly half an hour and we were not given an explanation. It's always a wait, but this time after 15 minutes had gone past my pick up time, I approached the counter and stood there for nearly 5 minutes before someone acknowledged me. I was told "we're busy" so I asked for a refund, at that point she printed out my order, walked back and said "it's ready" and handed it to me without another word. While I was waiting, a woman who was dining with others but clearly knew the staff walked back three times including once to give everyone hugs and once for someone to get her a chip refill. Probably the best tacos I have ever had! I ordered the Baja Shrimp taco and a Brushfire taco, both were tasty, but the Baja Shrimp is where it is at! Everything about the shrimp taco just works: hand-battered fried shrimp, cooked cabbage slaw topped with pickled jalapenos, onions, queso fresco, cilantro, and a wedge of lime; served with chipotle sauce and choice of tortilla. Amazing chipotle sauce. Be warned the diablo sauce that comes with some of the tacos, like the brushfire, is very spicy! (but has a good taste still, not too overpowering). The queso is very good! They have local brewed sodas available from the fountains. FYI this place also has a "secret menu" just search online and they can whip those tacos up too! This is a place where you go to the register and order and they bring the food to the table. We went during a busy lunch time, but they managed to get us through the line quickly and we didn't wait long for the food either! Prices are very reasonable tacos range from $3 and change to $5 a piece. Two tacos is definitely enough to fill up the average person. Highly recommend this place, I just wish there was one closer to home. So far they are just in Colorado, Texas, and Oklahoma. read more

But I must say Torchy's is a must, defiantly a variety of tacos to pick form. Even a breakfast taco! I had the street corn in the bowl and the green chili pork taco...yummy my mouth is watering thinking about it. Never have seen the fountain drink dispenser with authentic drinks from Mexico. They are definitely not the blue collar worker type of tacos, but now and then it is something good to have. The place had quite a bit of people in there, but no line. Staff is really friendly. We tried other locations and while the service was pretty good the food fell short of the buzz. The menu sounded awesome and the tacos arrived pretty. Then you bite into it. I could hear Juliet in the background, "Flavor! Flavor! wherefore art thou Flavor?" Fast forward a few months where we find ourselves hungry for tacos but not from a window. Torchy's is right there and Kerbey Lane would take too long. I should have trusted my gut and saved the agony. We ordered. I forgot everything is ala carte...even the kids meals. Are my ears ringing? Where is that Cha-Ching sound coming from?? $2.00 for a drink when a single taco is $3.50? Water for everyone! We sat and waited. Maybe it took so long so that you could enjoy the music (which I did) or so the kids could finish coloring (which they did), or maybe they needed more than 6 people cooking back there. I guess we kept them busy with our massive order of three tacos and chicken strips. I got what they called the Democrat. I will from here on out refer to it as tasteless waste of calories. It looked like it would taste good...it had no taste at all! The rice...they should have asked Uncle Ben for some help. And seriously, who's bright idea was it to couple a kids meal with Poblano salsa? It's your second hottest salsa so OF COURSE it would be kid-friendly! I wasn't surprised by this visit. It didn't reveal anything I didn't already know. It really deserved two stars. But wait....there's more... My son woke me up later that night to review what he had had dinner. Was a little disappointed they didn't have anything more than the glowing Open sign on the door to signify a "grand opening" or maybe some kinda special going on? Come on, it's Torchy's grand opening! Regardless, I ordered a Dirty Sanchez and a Ranch Hand. I was also feeling a bit sinful and ordered a trio of Little Nookies. Tacos: Awesome as expected. Not to mention the serving portion was much more reasonable than the other locations. I feel if you're going to order two tacos for $7 you better be full after them. The locations of S 1st not so much, this one, I almost didn't have room for the nookies... almost. Nookies: first off, (safety aside) you know your order's fresh when the styrofoam container has holes in it due to the fresh oil melting it away. Decided to come here for cinco de mayo because why not? Tacos? Yes. Torchy's tacos? Double yes. Unfortunately the wait was 25 minutes due to the copious amounts of people that had the same idea that I had. Brushfire: 4/5, I had been craving jerk chicken. Lo and behold, torchy's answered my prayers, kind of. Upon arrival of the taco, I was slightly disappointed by how dry and unseasoned and probably not jerky tasting chicken it was going to be. However, after adding the Diablo sauce, the flavor was actually very similar to the jerk chicken I remember tasting in Jamaica. Like the name suggests, Diablo sauce was nothing shy of hot. I can eat spicy food, and that was prettty spicy. Probably would not ever get this taco again, but it did hold true to the claims of jerk chicken. Baja shrimp: 5/5, I was also craving shrimp poppers, so naturally I was like, "fried shrimp? Heck yeah!" This did not disappoint at all. The flavor combination of the shrimp + toppings and chipotle sauce were just heavenly. I would totally get this again and again and again. Torchy's consistently dishes out great, loaded tacos. This place is so cool. 80 million stars. The one cashier with the gages is so freaking nice and never seems rushed or bothered to be there. The kitchen is right behind him and he just is a cool cool cucumber. The Chips and queso with chorizo in it is so flavorful and will absolutely improve your experience. I like to try different stuff when I'm here so I got the brushfire one time (on recommendation from an employee) which was very spicy but you put the sauce on so you can tolerate it. The food quality was excellent but my issue is the price. If you want a quick snack. Maybe a $5 taco would make sense but for me a lunch or dinner two tacos fits but at $10 is pushing the envelope. This place is definitely worth the gamble and try. Decor was eclectic but the male bathroom was for a single patron at a time. Other people came in, waited near me, then got their food and left. Every single person that was working there looked at me and my number that I held in my hands so it was visible. I figured that the other people did have bigger orders so many it was just behind schedule. After waiting for 25 minutes an employee came up to me (everyone that came after me had already gotten their food) and asked me how I ordered (online) and my name. He seemed confused like there was never any order. Finally he brought my order out - it had been almost a 30 minute wait (past the order pick up time). I was sitting directly in front of the order pick up the whole time. They looked at me and my number numerous times. I wasn't on my phone or doing anything other than waiting. I don't understand how it happened unless they called me in the minute I was in the bathroom. My food was cold by the time I got it. They mislabeled a taco, I had to bring it back in thinking I got the wrong kind. It was just with the wrong sticker. It was just a lousy experience.
