I was really looking forward to eating here. I first had Torchy's at their first ever location (post-food truck days) on South Congress. Unfortunately, the flavors here just weren't as good as I remembered them. I had some queso to start and was happy to see that it tasted just like I remembered. It went downhill from there. I had The Democrat and the barbacoa was weird and oily. It tasted almost old? I'm not sure if Torchy's uses frozen meats or fresh meats only but the barbacoa in the taco just tasted...wrong. I'm not sure how else to describe it. Not even spoonfuls of salsa could save the taste. I took one bite and left the rest. My meal ended on a slightly higher note with The Wrangler, which was actually quite good, but unfortunately not good enough to get the barbacoa flavor out of my mouth. Definitely not worth the $4+ for each taco. I guess I'll have to wait to have Torchy's until I'm back in ATX. read more

Queso + tacos off their secret menu makes for an incredible meal! The jack of clubs from the secret menu is my all time favorite taco with roasted potato, black beans, cheese, egg and tortilla strips. It's also one of their few vegetarian options. You HAVE to try it. Or maybe you shouldn't so you don't order it once a week like me. The queso is also the best in DFW. Green chiles, melted queso and guac at the bottom. Passing through town and stopped in on a friend's recommendation and hands down have never had a better first time visit experience than today (4/17/22). The young lady taking our order was extremely patient with us as we also had 4 kids with us. After sitting down, they brought out a complimentary Green Chile Queso as a welcome and thank you for trying us. Delicious and such a strong flavor. We had ordered the Baja Shrimp, Taco of the Month Tokyo Drifter, and Bushfire. The large shrimp in the baja and the flavor of everything was amazing. Followed that with good conversations with Manny (Manager) and Joe made for the perfect Easter Dinner. I can see why people like Torchy's. Different types of tacos, interesting and unqiue flavor combos, something for everyone. It was my first time here because I was in the area and needed a quick dinner and said why not. My fiance and I split a breakfast, salmon, and fajita taco with some chips and queso. Queso was bomb, very good, no complaints. The tacos on the other hand for me were just eh. I wasn't blown away, they were just decent. I'm just more of a purist and I prefer my tacos real and authentic. That's nothing against Torchy's and their popular following; just not my style. With so many other pure taco options in Dallas, I'd rather go there for all my taco cravings. read more

Service sucks as things reopen no one has a sense of ergency to get things done. People act like they don't wont to work anymore. No one here cares. Ordered online went to pick up, checked in and waited for order. Worker saw me and knew I was there. Waited patiently and rechecked in. The worker couldn't find order and then once located gave me attitude, rolled eyes and dropped food on counter saying "it's been here all along". They knew I was here. He gave me such attitude. The food was cold and I asked him to remake. He said "talk to manager" and then went to his coworkers and started laughing. Really?! I like the trailer park better, but where would they put it in Dallas? I'm sure Uptown folks would love to have it back up to Turtle Creek. Or we could put it by the Trinity AFTER they get the levees, toll road and park complete. So many places in need of the trailer park atmosphere and so little time. I suppose that's why Torchy's didn't wait for a prime outdoor location. And I have to admit the place on Forest Lane is pretty cute. There were plenty of tables even though the line was almost out the door. Seems they cleared by the time you went through the line. And the tacos taste EXACTLY like the ones in Austin, which is good because I effing adore them. I had the Republican (smoked j sausage and stuff) and the Trailer Park (fried chicken)--trashy. Hmmm...trashy trailerparky Republicans. Several spring to mind. And by trashy I mean with queso. Get a flour tortilla for that one, the corn won't stand up to the pressure. Munchkin had the Democrat (brisket) and the Brushfire (jerk chicken and mango)--which was so hot even I had problems eating it. They leave the seeds in the grilled jalapenos. The soon to disappear Katie C. had the Democrat and the Crossroads which were mostly briskety and she said they were very good. Let's wait and see if she does a review.... I love love love the black cherry soda on tap. I chugged three glasses there and had one to go. They also have creme soda and rootbeer on tap. Ah Torchys. So hot and cold you are. And your fence of iron people confused me at first. I thought there was a huge line! Touche. You got me. First experience was with breakfast. I got a migas taco and also a regular breakfast taco with jalapeno sausage. First off, where the eff was the sausage. There was maybe 3 tiny pieces lost within what seemed like a half dozen eggs. Gross. Migas taco was slightly better but still nothing at all exciting. I liked the tortilla strips for a bit of a crunch, but there weren't many and the flavor just wasn't really there. I tried it out for lunch and got a crossroads on flour with an order of queso. Chips are bottomless, just go up to the counter for refills. Queso was slightly messy but oh so delicious. My brisket in the taco was tender and slightly fatty, smokey and oh so good. Everything worked out well, my shredded cheese was melted and I truly enjoyed my taco. A third trip I repeated my past order of lunch and was underwhelmed again. The brisket was a bit dry this time and the entire taco was a bit cold. I'm not a fan of non melted cheese really so it was lackluster. Also, I forgot to specify the tortilla and the cashier didn't ask, so I got corn which doubled up, I found dry and detracting from the meal. Even the queso was not as melty as the last time and something felt a bit gritty about it. So what the eff. You love me, you hate me. Please pick one. Further investigation will happen. As a general breakfast, lunch and dinner taco fanatic, there should have been no reason not to love on Torchy's Tacos. But my love tank was more than half empty after my inaugural visit to Torchy's. How does one fail on on something as simple as a taco? Easy. Here are my fundamentals for basic taco success: 1) Flavorful filler. Regardless of potato, bacon, chorizo or basic shredded beef - you gots to have that flavor. 2) Tortillas. Weather they are thin or thick, they gotta stay soft and they gotta taste fresh 3) SALSA! SALSA! SALSA! There are 2 components to this. The more salsa options the better and they have to be readily available, preferably in salsa bar form. And if you don't have a lot of options, the salsa has to be be a freaking superstar. Using the above fundamentals as a criteria, let's walk through why Torchy's Tacos gave me an upside down smiley face. Torchy's has all of your basic breakfast taco usual suspects as well as a rather enticing regular taco menu. I chose the potato, egg and cheese with the intention of getting my meat fill in the barbacoa lunch taco. Both fillers, potato and barbacoa had serious problems. While the barbacoa was moist, it was as though they never thought about adding a single spice to it assuming the onion, cilantro and HARD avocado accompaniment would do all of the work. No Ma'am. Meanwhile, the potato, egg and cheese was just a bunch of mush. Not a single ingredient stood out. Then there was the tortilla. My flour tortilla was able to handle the generous amount of flavorless filler. It was soft and fresh, but at the end of the day - par for course. And finally, the salsa factor.... Torchy's had the potential. It offered about 6 varieties - ranging from creamy poblano to your basic tomatillo and even chipotle. First off, I could not find a single salsa that really sang to my taste buds. Even worse, Tochy's would ration you like we were in the middle of the great salsa depression of 2011. There was one highlight of the meal and that was their impressive queso starter complete with guacamole. Each dip was a pleasure, and for that, Torchy's, I thank you. Also, hats off to the pricing, portions, cleanliness and service. All were on point at Torchy's. I know I'm going to upset a lot of people with this review. But I got to keep it real. Mayhaps me needs to hit up the Austin original, because Dallas got this taco wrong, my friends. read more

Best restaurant ever, whenever I come here I am satisfied when I leave, food is perfect and staff is awesome

Everyone should at least give Torchy's a try. Even though I only give it 3 stars, it was satisfying overall and I would eat there again. I just didn't think the tacos lived up to their potential. The combinations of ingredients and fillings they are putting in tacos is intriguing to any taco-phile to say the least, but overall I didn't feel the menu board translated to outstanding flavor, and the whole thing felt a little like fast food. From Best to Worst: 1. The Crossroads- really an excellent taco. The Brisket was unlike what I have had elsewhere and is definitely worth eating again. 2. Jamaican Jerk Chicken- also some really good flavors in there, but not mind-blowing 3. The one with the fried chicken- decent, but I swear it tastes exactly like the McDonalds snack wrap. 4. The one with the fried avacado- blah, not my bag baby. Kinda mushy and lacked any real substance (ie meat). Not a total let down, but probably not worth all the hype IMO. read more

If I wasn't 4'11 and didn't have to worry about the fact that gaining 5 pounds to my short stature really looks I gained 20 lbs. then there would be no problem with me eating at Torchy's everyday. They are loaded with some greasy ingredients. Meat, Cheese, extra grease from the pan....But oh are they yummy! One can't also help but notice the creative names of the tacos. The Democrat, The Republican, Brush Fire and my favorite, Trailer Park, which happens to taste nothing like one. Go figure. I have tried almost everyone on the menu and they are all delicious with a wide variety of choices to suit your mood for that day. "Ah well let's see....today feels more like a Brush Fire day.." I wish that was my life. There are consequences to eating these little devils. CAUTION - TOO MUCH GREASY TACOS CAN LEAVE YOU FEELING LIKE A HOT AIR BALLOON: BLOATED AND FULL OF AIR. This Torchy's has the standard menu of greatness but I'll get to that later bc what makes this location a 5 star is due to some of the best customer service I've ever had. On a Sunday morning, around 11am, I called to place a pick up order for a Migas and bean/ potato + bacon (+.50) breakfast taco. Not only was the lady so lovely on the phone (even though I could tell it was cray busy,) she gave vital info: "you don't have to wait in line to pick up your order." 10 minutes later my tacos were ready and although I was only in for 90 seconds, it felt like I was given a million genuine smiles and "thank you's" from the staff. First taco experience in Texas happened at Torchy's. When we drove up I was definitely doubting what could be found here and didn't even check the ratings when I checked in on Yelp. This place definitely lives up to the four stars and almost 600 reviews. The tacos are DELICIOUS. I was confused about the price point - how could tacos be this expensive (a total Northerner noob)? So I ordered three to make sure I was full - the Democrat, Republican, and Crossroads. Well, I definitely made a mistake because each taco was huge! Crossroads was definitely my favorite - the meat was so fatty it was awesome. I didn't read the descriptions carefully and found out the Republican was stuffed with an entire hotdog! Torchy's continues to toy with my heart. Did not enjoy my 1st experience at the drag location, adored my 2nd experience at the trailer park location, was pretty disappointed with my 3rd experience here in Dallas. I know by now I definitely LOVE the green chile pork tacos. Definitely recommend that one, with the roja salsa. Unfortunately the roja is the only salsa I really enjoyed. They've got verde, roja, chipotle ranch, poblano ranch, and diablo. Apparently they have won awards for their salsas but I found them all (except the roja) to be just a little off from my preferences. Tortillas are not great either. They don't taste homemade to me, but maybe they are. Other tacos I have tried: - Democrat (I'm not a huge fan of barbacoa, it's just too soft for me. It's been too salty 2 out of the 3 times I've stolen a bite from others) - Republican (this one has been my second favorite, but I didn't like the cold shredded cheese on it) - Bacon egg and cheese (too much oil for me) - Damn BP (just tasted like a huge mess....flavors did not complement each other at all. boo. maybe it was supposed to be an epically tragic fail?) But, with it's proximity to work, I'll definitely be back to find some more good ones. read more
