This place is pretty amazing. I've had their Mr. Pink which is a tuna taco. Eh...yum. A giant piece of tuna that is topped with just the right amount of extras. At $4 it's a pretty darn good deal (you can get 'em cheaper at Rusty and Fuzzy's, but they're twice as big at Torchy's. Also, their breakfast burritos are HUGE. Have I mentioned their quesso? After hearing about Torchy's from friends in Austin, I decided to hit it up today. First and foremost, it was lunch rush and it was packed. Surprisingly, I must say, they were incredibly efficient, and even though we had to get our orders to-go, they had them out to us fast enough to still be warm when we hit the office again. Now the food is good, and I mean REALLY good. I highly enjoyed my taco (I had the Ace of Spades, sausage, brisket, fried egg, queso, sour cream, hot sauce... oh my!) I also had a side of queso and that was remarkably tasty. I have to admit, it was probably the best queso I have had in Dallas yet. The sauces are also good. The Diablo sauce isn't 'too hot' and has plenty of flavor in it. The only gripe I had was price-point. Most of the tacos were about $4.00 to $5.00 each, and that's it, just the taco, no side, no drink, nothing. Most people around me were ordering two tacos, or as I did, the chips and queso, which came out to a nice $10+ meal. It's still a taco, I mean it's a good one, but for that price, it is a little steep. Also, this isn't remotely healthy food... but that is probably why it is so damn good. Yum!! Greeted with a friendly staff and eclectic feel, this taco place is the place to be. There is always a crowd. There is seating inside as well as some outside tables. Their menu has a wide variety of delicious and innovative tacos. I tried the fried avocado and baja shrimp tacos. Delicious flavor with just the right amount of cheese, lettuce, and pico. They also each come with their own sauce to compliment the rest of the ingredients in your taco. I had the chipotle and poblano sauce, which were both bursting with flavor. I recently discovered this place by reading reviews on restaurants around where I work. This place got so many good reviews, so I had to try it for myself. I must say, when comparing it to Fuzzy's Tacos, this place beats it by far....SEVERAL RATINGS FAR! The names of the tacos are creative and hilarious, you would think twice about ordering a Dirty Sanchez or Brush Fire, The Democrat or The Republican, etc. If you don't want to stuff yourself, I recommend just ordering 2 tacos as they are a decent size, and order their queso. It comes out HOT, AND it is delicious. I have tried the chicken fajita, jerk chicken, beef fajita and brisket seems to be the popular item on the menu. They are all good. Some friends ordered the chicken burrito, and they ate every bite of it. If you are in the mood for tacos and have an itch for one, I recommend going here. The place does get CRAZY busy, but the lines go by fast, and you will find a table. If not, just start walking in circles, and someone will eventually get up. ..jk read more

I remember the first time I had Torchy's in Austin, and it was mind-blowingly good. The Dallas one has a completely different feel though. It's really spacious and a good place to hang out, but it's usually full of college students from SMU. The last time I went, I ordered a mango/strawberry swirl margarita, which was pretty good for the price. We also got an order of queso and chips for the table - YUM. I'm a huge fan of their queso. For my meal, I ordered The Republican (cheddar jalapeno sausage) and Mr. Pink (ahi tuna). The Mr. Pink was alright, but probably not one of my favorite tacos. Went to Torchy's on a recent Sunday lunch, and timing was helpful that we beat the crowd, barely. Dug into two bad boys: the Democrat and the Brush Fire...both wildly different from one another and a great representation of what Torchy's has to offer. However, two was probably TOO much for me, one would have been fine, but hey, when in Rome. Delivered quickly and fresh, teeming with ingredients...oh so good. Kids meals came with a fried avocado...oh yum, a first for me. Sadly, the location makes for very infrequent trips from my hood, but I'm certainly glad we made the trip today. The tacos I had here were OK - in fact, it's been long enough that I don't remember much about them. They are complex, and they sound very good, but I think lacked a bit in execution. I specifically remember that one of mine involving tuna ended up being pretty dry. Sorry, I know this isn't the helpful. HOWEVER. This place gets stars just for the queso. Big pieces of roasted green chiles, and topped with more crumbled cheese. Great flavor. Probably my high water mark for "queso" thus far. After being dragged here by my UT friends who sang Torchys praises, everything went better than expected ( dot jpg). As a vegetarian, I always look forward to new taco places because they're pretty friendly with my lifestyle. Torchys is pretty fantastic, though the veggie options are limited to 2 or 3 choices. They are probably the most perfect drunk food / hangover food that you can find in the metroplex. It just has that perfect amount of grease, carbs, and fat that your jager soaked stomach lining needs. Pro tip: The tacos are HUGE. There's no shame in taking home half a taco to eat while you watch Hulu on your couch on a Sunday afternoon. The space is a little small and lines tend to go slower than most taco joints. This place is obviously very popular and on a Saturday afternoon I almost drove away due to a long line of what I thought were real humans wrapped around the inside. Once I realized they weren't moving and it was just some artsy decorations, I decided to go in. Maybe they should rethink their decor... Torchy's serves breakfast tacos all day! I ordered The Wrangler breakfast taco and also the Baja Shrimp taco. The breakfast taco was delicious for any time of day. Scrambled eggs, melted Jack cheese, brisket, and potatoes make a wonderful combination. The Baja Shrimp was just as tasty with the battered, fried shrimp and cabbage. They know how to do the right combination of flavors. I didn't care for the chips or queso. Some of the chips were stale and the queso was too spicy for my liking (I'm a real wimp when it comes to spicy food so other people probably wouldn't think the queso had much kick). The prices vary depending on which taco you choose, but I'd say the average was around $3.50. read more

My introduction to Torchy's was at the original in Austin. The developers at my company love their tacos almost as much as Mountain Dew. We'd cram into the small dinning room just off the UT campus and pig out. I've had some great meals at Torchy's. Three stars here are for this specific location. I am tempted to give 2.5 (rounded down). The Casa Linda spot would require an different review all together and would get a higher rating. The food was pretty good. We started with the green chile queso and it was delicious. The chips were fresh and crispy. We had used the "Find Your Taco" app on the web site. It was pretty accurate. I ordered a Brushfire - a delicious jerk chicken and jalapeno taco. My gal ordered a fried avocado and a Mr. Orange, a salmon taco. All were very good, though the fried avocado was great (and how not?). So what is my issue? The dinning room was filthy. When we arrived four tables were littered with crumbs, food, used napkins. The floor had a lot of broken chips on it. We bussed our own table before sitting down. We took our time over the meal and during our stay, two of the four tables were cleaned. But not all of them. A busboy made a halfhearted effort to sweep the floor, but again left most of it littered. Someone is letting the standards slip. You sit there, enjoying your food, but half wondering, "OK. If the dinning room is this dirty, what's happening in the kitchen?" read more

I LOVE Torchys Tacos! These are very much "fancy gringo" tacos but they are delicious. You won't find tacos like these in a local taqueria and that's ok. My two favorite tacos here have always been The Democrat and the Brushfire. The Brushfire is basically a jerk chicken taco. The Democrat, always my favorite, is tender, shredded beef barbacoa, avocado slice and a little bit of queso. If you like some spice, don't forget to ask for an extra side of the Diablo sauce. Two things I don't like about the particular location are....1. It's always crowded. I think I'm beating the lunch crowd by stopping by at 1:30 and there is still a line almost out the door. 2. This is just a small complaint but this location doesn't have a bar. They have a limited number of beers and that's it. read more

I've had one of most on the menu, it's all great. They've bastardized the classics, but that's not a bad thing. The jerk chicken taco varies wildly in spiciness depending on what part of the pepper you get. The tacos are pricier than most, but also a bit bigger. I prefer the green salsa. read more

Update on just desserts (don't worry - everything else is awesome). Had the Little Nookies (deep-fried cookie *dough*). Meh, they're OK. Really, really sweet. I know, Who woulda thought? If you get them, order them *after* you eat. They're much better when fresh. The fried crust is really thin, so it doesn't stay warm long. And they don't fry it long enough to warm up the dough, so the inside is still cool. But it only takes a minute or two for the crust to cool, so eat them immediately! After that, they're just cookie dough and they make bad leftovers. Better customer service would've cooked them a few minutes after I picked up my tacos, not served them with the tacos. I know why they call this place Torchy's..... During dinner time, the AC was out. It was hotter inside than outside! I don't know about you, but I like eating at a place that has working air conditioning. Especially with this 100+ degrees heat wave we've been experiencing. My friend was sweating so bad that he had to go to the bathroom half way through the meal to take a shower. Taco's weren't anything spectacular. I had the green chille pork. It's essentially a pulled pork, and nothing like a seasoned pastor you would get at a taqueria. The republican is something to stay away from, unless you are on the south beach diet. What kind of taco has a entire hot dog, split open, on a tortilla? It's not very appetizing. Seems like everything on the menu was super salty. There is one positive note. The green chille queso was the best thing on the menu. Awesome flavor, and the perfect amount of heat. read more

I found out about Torchy's while visiting Austin, and we left extremely happy (I'll be writing that review after this one). Once I found out Torchy's is also located here in Dallas, I knew I had to go promptly. Some of my old coworkers wanted to meet up for lunch and I suggested Torchy's. Good thing they're up for trying new things! We arrived, we ordered, we sat. It is so full, even if you arrive at 11am. Jam packed. With good reason too. I had ordered the Fried Avocado (the same I ordered in Austin) and the Democrat. What else can I say other than... damn that was good. Consistency is something I look for when I discover a new place that has more than one location. These tacos tasted exactly the same as the ones from the little taco truck in Austin. I don't know what they're doing, but they're doing great and are my go-to place for tacos. read more

I got the Brushfire and Democract, and between those two, I liked the Brushfire the most. Democract was pretty bland to me and seems like they didn't put any seasoning. So glad to see the Dallas Torchy's location is receiving great reviews. I moved here from Austin and really missed my weekend Torchy's fix. My go-to's are the migas and the baja shrimp. However, be sure to ask about the Taco of the Month - they are usually really good (and sometimes available after the promotion - I love the salmon taco!). Others have criticized Torchy's for not being "authentic" - no, they're not authentic street style (which I also love), however they aren't trying to be authentic so it's not really a fair criticism. If you're in the mood for simple street style tacos then you might be disappointed (but I'd recommend the breakfast tacos as a fair compromise). However, if you're looking for innovative combinations of meat, veggies, and seasonings/sauces - then you'll love it. Yes, they are Americanized, but I don't see that as an automatic criticism - they do it very well! Also, don't be off-put by the long line - they work very quickly given how fresh and made-to-order everything is and I promise it's worth the wait! read more

Maybe it was b/c we got our food to go, but I was a little disappointed. My Austin friends claim this place is the greatest, but it was just ok...better than average maybe. Once home, when I opened my first taco (Chicken Fajita) it was the greasiest thing I have EVER seen. That is not an exagerration. I know taco joints aren't exactly health food, and I could eat real Taco's every day.... but this was the extreme. I basically ate it without the tortilla as the tortilla was soaking wet from grease.... As for positives: The other taco wasn't in quite as bad a shape. Salsa's etc...were excellent, the queso was as good as advertised (awesome), and the meat was quality.... so I will give it another shot. But maybe next time we will eat in. read more

We went to Torchy's based on a recommendation from my niece and I was not disappointed. The place is small and hard to find (hidden behind Potbelly's) but the food was great. The Green Chile Queso was really good and unlike any other queso I've had before. They have a wide variety of tacos and you can choose to have either flour or corn tortillas. This place has lightening fast service, friendly faces and over the top tacos. The Crossroads and Baja Shrimp Tacos are my favorite. The avocado is always fresh and the salsas are delectable. I am a big fan of lemonade and even more a fan of their lemonade. It is sweet and plenty sour and free refills. :) It is a very hopping place during lunch and pretty steady on the weekends, but just be patient they quickly prepare your meal. You won't be disappointed with these tacos or the service. **Side note these tacos are fairly filling 1-2 should be plenty. I know they all sound exciting but pace yourself. read more

WOW, our second time here and we will keep coming back! Had the Green chili pork taco and the Democrat as well. I ate the Dem first and couldn't touch the pork, I was so full! Brought it home for dinner tonight-yum. The beef barbacoa is so moist and seasoned perfectly. My husband had the Crossroads and the Dirty Sanchez with eggs. He said it was perfectly done. We also ordered the guacamole and chips and it was very fresh, I don't happen to like raw onions and the guac had plenty of them, but I still enjoyed it.
