I ordered a crossroads, democrat, and one other taco along with a house margarita. The tacos were cold and the margarita tasted like a fart. I let the bartender know and she poured a sample then took it to the back. She returned and said the manager would refund me for the drink. I've been to this location several times and never had any issues. Having been a bartender for twenty five years, including work at an upscale Mexican grille for two years, I know exactly what makes the defect of the margarita that I could only stomach two sips of today. It takes very little effort to make a fresh margarita, or at the very least to make a fresh batch daily. The fart flavor happens when they make the batch and it sits for more than a day. The bartender confirmed that they made it "a day or two earlier". This is why I give one star: service after the complaint. I wanted a margarita and over paid for it. Insteadoff making me a fresh drink, the bartender questioned my taste by taking a sample to the back for someone else to confirm that I tasted what I tasted. That is rude. Rather than making me a fresh drink, which takes less than a minute (I was the only one there) they removed the charge off of my credit card which takes 3-5 business days. The manager was too busy to come out of the back to ask if removing the charge was acceptable. I would have considered a taco and some chips as compensation or a consolation.. The tacos were ice cold. I ate them because I was hungry. After eating them, it occurred to me that they lacked the crispy parts, any flavor, and were just goo. I've been to many Torchy's Tacos including the original in Austin many times. I've never disliked the place. If I have to tell you about the chips and queso, you probably don't deserve them. Get the guacamole on the side and it's perfection. Rachel (your bar-hostess-extraordinaré) will take excellent care of you: knows the menu, the SECRET menu, the taco of the month AND the awesome new specialty drinks that will knock your socks off. And then there's the rotating beer on tap. You just can't go wrong with a place that caters to local beers. My fav taco is the Democrat. Hubby loves the Trailer Park, trashy. I had been avoiding this place because everytime I pass by there is usually a long line..So much so that I have waited 20 minutes before without progress (but that was when it first opened) and left. But boyfriend and I were going to get groceries and we passed Torchy's on the way! We thought, why not?? The boyfriend and I were super pleased with the time it took to get the food, and the knowledge of the portion sizes and how much people order to feel satisfied. I've never given a place a one-star rating before, so it breaks my heart just a little that I feel like I have to give Torchy's one, especially as a long time Torchy's fan. We arrived to Torchy's to the cashier wearing a mesh, sequin mask (unfortunately a mask filled with big holes doesn't really count as a mask....). Our waitress who brought our food wore her mask under her nose. To top this off, the chef decided that wearing a mask was not a thing at all. As in, he didn't bother to wear a face covering in any way, shape, or form and brazenly walked around the restaurant talking to other workers. If the workers can't be bothered to wear a mask, you can only imagine how they implemented a mask policy (aka they didn't). Nine months into a pandemic and five months into mask policies...this is absolutely unacceptable for both the safety of the customers and for the workers. The ones I had were good. They slate super greasy though and they don't make real tortillas here. The tortillas come out of bag. For the prices they charge 4.25 per taco I would expect them to serve real tortillas. 25.00 for 6 tacos not worth it in my opinion. I know much plenty of taco stands that are so much better and are half the cost of these tacos. I didn't see the long lines like they used to have. This place used to have people lines up out door. What is happening with the "To Go" order of "Hillbilly Queso?" We have been HUGE fans of this particular queso. We've enjoyed it from the College Station location to several Houston locations. After the shift to curbside service due to the Covid-19 pandemic we noticed a difference in this offering. We have ordered this queso "to go" many times. Each time we received a full cup. The FIRST time we received a half-full cup we just chalked it up to a mistake. That queso didn't have any meat or avocado which makes hillbilly queso "Hillbilly Queso." We didn't complain but also wanted to wait before ordering from you again. Our thought was that you may have needed time to adjust to this new Covid process. Last week we were ready for our hillbilly fix. We ordered and received another cup with about four tablespoons of queso. At least THIS time someone tried to sprinkle some meat and avocado into it. This item costs $7.40. It is worth ordering when dining in. This now appears to be your new Modus Operandi for delivery of Hillbilly Queso. The Torchys located at 10123 Louetta Rd in Vintage Park is terrible. This is my second visit In which they did not bring out my order nor acknowledge any urgency when I requested an update. It wasn't even busy on either occasion. It took over 30 minutes for them to figure it out and couldn't even give me a reason as to why it was not made other than possibly short staffed. That is not the case as we watched all other customers get their food after mine. The manager did absolutely nothing but bring my order out completely cold later. No offer to remake the food either. Let me also mention that they messed up another customers order after mine and they did the exact same thing to him. He was ignored and the manager didn't even come out to speak to him. They should not ask for a tip upfront if they are not going to guarantee service. Both times I have tipped and all I received was terrible service. Little did I know that this would not be our usual Torchy's experience. Our queso was cold. The veggies that come on the taco were supposed to be sautéed or grilled. Notice I said supposed to be and they were raw. Also they must be using another vendor for their tortillas. I did a survey and expressed our disappointment and dissatisfaction. I was contacted by a manager and she wanted to rectify the bad experience. She stated that she would mail some coupons. Well as of today still no coupons. The downfall of this torchys location needs to be studied, I've been coming here since they first opened almost a decade ago and it's been great place for a quick and cheap bite to eat but now their tacos are over 5$, 95% of the time the meat is ice cold, they get your order wrong most the time, they neglect the small things like sauces or preferences in your order. The cherry on top now is having to wait every single time I come for 20-40 min for a singular damn taco. For example tonight it took 37 min for my ice cold "fajita" plate to come out, didn't have the sauces I ordered, nor the corn tortillas I asked for. Such a solid experience here- it was great. Multiple people recommended their queso to me and those people were absolutely right- it's delicious. We sat on their patio with our dog, a few tacos, queso, and drinks. It was really pleasant- great for a casual lunch.
