Torchy's on a Tuesday afternoon. It's like I have the bar to myself. Couple Hoppadillos in, and it's a really good afternoon. If I have to tell you about the chips and queso, you probably don't deserve them. Get the guacamole on the side and it's perfection. Rachel (your bar-hostess-extraordinaré) will take excellent care of you: knows the menu, the SECRET menu, the taco of the month AND the awesome new specialty drinks that will knock your socks off. And then there's the rotating beer on tap. You just can't go wrong with a place that caters to local beers. My fav taco is the Democrat. Hubby loves the Trailer Park, trashy. (Again, if I've got to explain that to you, you don't deserve to be trashy.) Try the Diablo's sauce on whatever you order and you won't know what hit ya. I had been avoiding this place because everytime I pass by there is usually a long line..So much so that I have waited 20 minutes before without progress (but that was when it first opened) and left. But boyfriend and I were going to get groceries and we passed Torchy's on the way! We thought, why not?? The boyfriend and I were super pleased with the time it took to get the food, and the knowledge of the portion sizes and how much people order to feel satisfied. And the boyfriend was pleased that the bartender asked him if he wanted his whiskey "neat" or not, as he hates ice. He was happy and filled up with his trashy trailer park and his brushfire tacos. And I was happy and satisfied,too. But for ME,I felt i had better barbacoa tacos and street corn from a taco truck. But for 4 tacos,a soda and a whiskey? Torchy's is one of our Go-To places. The food is always delicious, with Baja Shrimp, Crossroads, and Democrat among our favorite tacos. Torchy's queso is simply the best. Take it from a pro, everyone in your party should get their own queso...it's that good. Also try the street corn, it's fabulous. The service is always quick, and everyone is super friendly. I've never given a place a one-star rating before, so it breaks my heart just a little that I feel like I have to give Torchy's one, especially as a long time Torchy's fan. We arrived to Torchy's to the cashier wearing a mesh, sequin mask (unfortunately a mask filled with big holes doesn't really count as a mask....). Our waitress who brought our food wore her mask under her nose. To top this off, the chef decided that wearing a mask was not a thing at all. As in, he didn't bother to wear a face covering in any way, shape, or form and brazenly walked around the restaurant talking to other workers. If the workers can't be bothered to wear a mask, you can only imagine how they implemented a mask policy (aka they didn't). Nine months into a pandemic and five months into mask policies...this is absolutely unacceptable for both the safety of the customers and for the workers. I probably won't be returning anytime soon, but I genuinely hope that they make changes. read more

Torchy's revisited. We probably go Torchy's 3-4 times a year. The tacos are decent. Today we had trailer trash taco lol, the Democrat, republican and crossroads. My son loves the trailer trash tacos. The ones I had were good. They slate super greasy though and they don't make real tortillas here. The tortillas come out of bag. For the prices they charge 4.25 per taco I would expect them to serve real tortillas. 25.00 for 6 tacos not worth it in my opinion. I know much plenty of taco stands that are so much better and are half the cost of these tacos. I didn't see the long lines like they used to have. This place used to have people lines up out door. What is happening with the "To Go" order of "Hillbilly Queso?" We have been HUGE fans of this particular queso. We've enjoyed it from the College Station location to several Houston locations. After the shift to curbside service due to the Covid-19 pandemic we noticed a difference in this offering. We have ordered this queso "to go" many times. Each time we received a full cup. The FIRST time we received a half-full cup we just chalked it up to a mistake. That queso didn't have any meat or avocado which makes hillbilly queso "Hillbilly Queso." We didn't complain but also wanted to wait before ordering from you again. Our thought was that you may have needed time to adjust to this new Covid process. Last week we were ready for our hillbilly fix. We ordered and received another cup with about four tablespoons of queso. At least THIS time someone tried to sprinkle some meat and avocado into it. This item costs $7.40. It is worth ordering when dining in. This now appears to be your new Modus Operandi for delivery of Hillbilly Queso. The Torchys located at 10123 Louetta Rd in Vintage Park is terrible. This is my second visit In which they did not bring out my order nor acknowledge any urgency when I requested an update. It wasn't even busy on either occasion. It took over 30 minutes for them to figure it out and couldn't even give me a reason as to why it was not made other than possibly short staffed. That is not the case as we watched all other customers get their food after mine. The manager did absolutely nothing but bring my order out completely cold later. No offer to remake the food either. Let me also mention that they messed up another customers order after mine and they did the exact same thing to him. He was ignored and the manager didn't even come out to speak to him. They should not ask for a tip upfront if they are not going to guarantee service. Both times I have tipped and all I received was terrible service. The downfall of this torchys location needs to be studied, I've been coming here since they first opened almost a decade ago and it's been great place for a quick and cheap bite to eat but now their tacos are over 5$, 95% of the time the meat is ice cold, they get your order wrong most the time, they neglect the small things like sauces or preferences in your order. The cherry on top now is having to wait every single time I come for 20-40 min for a singular damn taco. For example tonight it took 37 min for my ice cold "fajita" plate to come out, didn't have the sauces I ordered, nor the corn tortillas I asked for. Also super lackluster staff, they always seem so dreary. This location needs to get it back together. read more

Hands down the best tacos ever! Since this place opened I've been coming here. I love love their Chips and Queso and their Chicken Fajita Taco. Their breakfast tacos are delicious as well. I've eaten here a few times and haven't had any issues. It may not have blow me away flavor for tacos but it's consistently enjoyable. They have a good variety for their menu and the staff generally is pleasant. I haven't actually sat down there to eat at least I don't believe I have but I would like to. The birds are really out around the outside seating here though and I am not a fan of birds lol. I probably go more for the breakfast tacos but want to try more regular ones. read more

I am writing this review to express my displeasure regarding the meal I and my wife were served at your restaurant on 3-9-23 We placed our order for dinner and sat down as usual. Little did I know that this would not be our usual Torchy's experience. Our queso was cold. The veggies that come on the taco were supposed to be sautéed or grilled. Notice I said supposed to be and they were raw. Also they must be using another vendor for their tortillas. I did a survey and expressed our disappointment and dissatisfaction. I was contacted by a manager and she wanted to rectify the bad experience. She stated that she would mail some coupons. Well as of today still no coupons. We don't ever plan on visiting this location again!! I guess this particular location doesn't need customers. Such a solid experience here- it was great. Multiple people recommended their queso to me and those people were absolutely right- it's delicious. We sat on their patio with our dog, a few tacos, queso, and drinks. It was really pleasant- great for a casual lunch. I'm holding off the 5th star because the patio could be slightly upgraded to improve the experience. Little details here and there. This morning was so cool that my husband & I decided to take our dog & sit under the new umbrellas. 3 ladies had tacos & just walked away without busing their own table. The earliest order completion time was one hour ahead, but the Torchy's staff managed to significantly mess up the order, including both incorrect and multiple missing items. After showing up at the stated time, it took another 15 minutes before the food was brought out. There was only one helpful person in the entire staff. The person working the register, who I initially spoke with, was disinterested in helping anyone. The place wasn't busy, especially for a Saturday night, with all but a handful of tables in the dining area being occupied and the bar at half capacity. The food, despite taking 15 minutes after the promised pick up time to be brought out, was extremely disappointing. It was slapped together in a rush with what felt like leftovers. I'm not sure who from corporate is reading this, but I remember a time over a decade ago where customers would wait in a long line at the university location in Austin for an amazing experience. To be one of those waiting and to now see the complete deterioration of the Torchy's brand which I experienced last night was absolutely disappointing. I've visited multiple locations throughout Houston and Austin and was shocked by the disparity of quality and service with this location versus the others. The worst part: we were hosting a cousin from out of the country who was excited to experience Torchy's after hearing about his brother's experience visiting the restaurant years ago. Average tacos. Need to up their game on the corn tortillas they have a slight funny taste to them but the flour tortillas are good to go. My go to is the Barbacoa with avocados onions and cilantro on a flour tortilla and the Mr. orange which is a salmon taco. I also like the flavor and sauce on the jerk chicken taco with the chunks of mango so good such a great combo of flavors. And of course you cannot go wrong with their queso with hatch chili and tortilla chips - always a must have. read more

This location can get pretty busy on the weekends. What's troubling for me, is that even when there doesn't seem to be a lot of chairs filled (and I'm aware of online orders that can be a factor), things seem to run a bit sluggishly. On my last visit (I'd put an online order in), there were no less than six online orders ahead of me. Two were in line, but the rest were sitting at the bar...and they weren't happy. It took me almost 30 minutes (waiting until my pickup time and then getting to the restaurant and waiting longer) to get my food. I can understand waiting, but not being acknowledged or updated on an order is not cool. If it weren't for that Trailer Park taco....LOL. read more
