Atmosphere 4/5 - There is a big children's play area which was very popular for the kids. It looked pretty clean and safe since it's enclosed in glass. This is great for the adults monitoring the kids at play. If you are not interested in that, I'd recommend sitting as far away from it as possible. I honestly did not expect to love Taco Palenque this much but it completely surprised me. The restaurant itself looks nice inside and the ambiance feels welcoming and comfortable. The best part for me was the playground. If you have a toddler this place is a game changer. It kept my child entertained the whole time and it looks like a mini trampoline park made just for kids with slides and fun stuff to climb on. Being able to sit and enjoy my food while my toddler is happily distracted is something every parent understands and deserves. Now the food, I was not expecting it to be this good. You kind of assume fast food means average Mexican food but that was not the case. The beans were so good and they were paired with the fajita quesadilla which I would rate a 10 out of 10. Everything tasted fresh and way better than expected. I also grabbed the mini buñuelos for about three dollars and they were so good and absolutely worth it. Sweet, crispy, and just the perfect little treat to finish the meal. On top of everything it was pretty affordable which makes it even better. This is one of the best places I have been to that has an indoor playground for kids and actually great food. Definitely coming back when I'm in town. read more

A pleasant surprise, I'm loooong overdue in posting a review of this location. Interior is bright and clean, and the service is both fast and friendly. Kid-friendly area with a ball pit and trampoline, though I'd question how clean these spots are. (On the flip side, ya gotta build up those kids' immune systems, so this might be a great place to do it.) For me, Taco P's food is pretty hit and miss. I've not been impressed with their breakfast tacos but the chicken burrito and the steak street tacos are quite good for the price. I also like their complimentary chips and different salsas. One of my favorite fast food/fast casual Mexican spots. Love chips warm chips and salsa they provide while inside.

Is this the best Mexican spot in SA? No, but it's a solid fast and affordable option. As a mom with two young kids I'm always hunting for a good spot that has a drive thru outside of traditional fast food. I love their beef fajitas, haven't had any complaints about the tacos I've had and their panchos are some of the best nachos I've had in town. Always have to wait more than 10 minutes for 2 fish tacos and this is going through the drive through. They take my money at the window then I have to park each time and wait, yet there are some people at the drive thru window who sit for 3-5 minutes for their food and they are not bring told to park and wait. Food - A solid 1. Awful! We got 4 breakfast tacos and sadly all fell short on flavor. The potato/chorizo had a ratio of 4;1 in favor of potatoes with no flavor and dry. I would have expected some grease from the chorizo to keep the taco from drying out completely. I was wrong. The Chilaquiles taco looked gross and had a really spicy red sauce in it. We love spicy but this was beyond hot. Also all it had was egg and cheese. The bean and cheese taco was meh! Service: A 1. Non-existent as we had to do everything for ourselves. You don't get plates unless you ask for them. I think self serve is a more accurate description. Ambience: 0. Low key and dull. There was a poster on the wall boasting about being selected as the best fast food in Texas by Food and Wine magazine. I don't know who voted this place as best but they need a solid palate cleansing. Obviously this is a 1 and done for us. If you come to this location, it is very cold inside (at least for me) so bring a sweater just in case. It has a large seating area with a playground for kids. Up front you will have a visible menu available to you, and staff is ready to take your order. You place your order and you'll receive a number and they bring the food up to you. There is chips, salsa, and other condiments available to freely get, sort of like buffet style which is nice. They have a variety of drinks with a couple of aguas frescas. I got an agua de horchata, pretty good. The fajita tacos were good, I just wish it wasn't so cold because my food got cold pretty quickly. If you like spicy salsa to go with it, the dark green one is probably the spiciest, but still could've been more spicy. The pastor tacos were really greasy and just didn't hit the spot unfortunately. My parents have been here before and spoke good things about it, but this time around they said it wasn't as good. Overall, great experience with my family here. read more

My caesar salad had tortilla strips, not croutons. The dressing was ranch in a packet. The salad wasn't good. The salsa bar was plentiful and it even had chips. Every Taco Palenques is different. The one is Houston is OFF THE HOOK. I think it's the original one. It was our go to place that reminded us of SATX TXMEX when we lived there, as my son was in the hospital. Back to my review, my family is HARD, did I say HARD, but HARD TO PLEASE. My mother is super picky, my father is from Mexico (so it has to remind him of home a bit), and I am on a special diet. All I have to say, which I don't have pictures of, is the salsa bar. My mother love radishes (which is super Authentic Mexico), and the pickled onions, OMG love them. My son is a "Bean and Cheese" enthusiast, and only gives you 3 frijole 's, sorry guys. We went yesterday, and my mother was in a mood, and guess what, NO COMPLAINTS!!!! That is 5 's in my book. She was a happy camper. She absolutely loves the salsa bar. Now, we do go a bit crazy with the chips, but I am sure we are not the only ones that do that. LOL We were getting stares. LOL I had bariatric Surgery and eat a very high protein based diet, and can only eat about 3oz of protein (chicken or beef), and to my surprise you guys had a Chicken Fajita Lettuce Wrap. I was beside myself. I usually just buy a whole plate and just eat the meat. That's expensive. Plus, I am allergic to wheat. Overall, Taco Palenque is a family-oriented Tex-Mex chain. This location near La Cantera/UTSA area is pretty good. Food: order to go a beef fajita plate and some carne guisada tacos. Very good carne guisada (not as moist as other restaurants but good). Fajitas were great. Service: Called the order in 15 minutes in advance, still had to wait 15 minutes more in the store to pick up the order. We have been going to this location for about 10 years since they opened. Always consistently good and have never thought to write a review until last night. We had a late night and came in around 9 with our kids who were very sleepy and hungry. One of my three-year-old twins bumped in to one of the tables and started to cry. Out of nowhere, an employee appeared with a red balloon, and she instantly started smiling (he said here, baby don't cry with a big smile). When he noticed she had a twin sister he brought another balloon over right away (whew!). Our son spent the entire hour-plus that we were there crawling nonstop through the play area! There's a ball pit, trampoline, three levels of assorted obstacles to crawl over/through, and it's inside now! Great place to go if you have a child that would rather play than sit and eat. While I think it's more akin to a 4 star joint, I've visited and spent so much money at Taco Palenque that I might as well give it my full blessing. They are open 24 hours, serve very tasty Mexican food, and within striking distance of me. (#1) The interior is massive. For a "fast food" restaurant, there's more than enough chairs and tables to accommodate a bunch of people at all times. Order at the counter and a number will be provided. Eventually a staff member will bring the food over. They once had a bustling salsa bar but that has been on hold since the pandemic began. Happy to report the bathrooms are very clean. And a true fast food fashion, many folks especially myself, will opt for their drive-thru. To be honest it's a little bit chaotic. There are two lanes, but only one side actually has the breakfast menu. The drive thru speaker malfunctions often and the screen never works. More often than not, I've seen people order in English only to be answered in Spanish. Love it. As for the food, it is pretty high quality for fast food. The pirata tacos whether it's breakfast or regular or excellent. My favorite is the matamoros, which are sirloin tacos with a nice slice of avocado and topped with crumbles of cotija cheese. It's undoubtedly greasy, but an excellent option every time. I've also become quite fond of their breakfast options especially the tacos. The egg and chorizo is an easy choice for a quality desayuno, as well as their huevos rancheros. Again, when im doubt, get sirloin. The only thing that might be a deterrent is the fact it's pretty expensive. There are some tacos that are as much as $5 each and oftentimes I'm spending somewhere between $30 and $50, which is more of a restaurant experience than usually a fast food one. I had a preconceived idea about the quality of the food at this restaurant based on word of mouth. We were over in the area and decided to give it a try. I'm so glad we did! First of all the employees are super nice but the variety of sauces accoutrements and quality of the tortilla chips along with the rock bomb queso convinced me that that word of mouth information was not mine. I visited last week and got the queso Etc and could not quit thinking about the refried beans, queso and chips so while spending the afternoon at home decided I would spoil myself and order a lunch delivery.. which I have never done in my life. I come here all the time and never have any issues. I went the order day to get a Caldo de res and it tasted terrible so I called in and spoke to Araceli. She was super nice and told me to come back any time and get the order remade. I went back two days later and forgot her name but I spoke to Salvador and he was very dismissive and was not providing great customer service. Araceli didn't tell me I had to take a receipt she just said that she would write my name down and take care of me. I said the wrong name to Salvador and later corrected myself but he didn't want to replace my order. It felt like I had to beg him to give me order. He then gave me a small caldo when I ordered a large one. I brought this to his attention and he said that without a receipt he could only give me a small one.
