As well as sides that you can choose from. We ordered the Paitan ramen which is a creamy broth. It was delicious, with the GF buckwheat noodles. We also ordered the Spicy Ramen, which was a hit! Stopped by this ramen place attending the jazz festival. Yes they mainly serve ramen and plenty of choices there. (Ignore review that couldn't believe a Japanese restaurant would have such a limited menu with no sushi but the reviewer must be stereotyping all Japanese restaurants). There are plenty of ramen restaurants that do not offer sushi and vice versa. We order the Shiyo and the Spicy ramen. Both were very flavorful and had an abundant amount of 'substance' in them. The chasu pork maybe could have been charred a little more but the slices were healthy. There was bamboo, sliced onions, sea weed, and other traditional ingredients. Beware the spicy ramen is rated 7 of 10 which was really spicy. 5 of 10 is better unless you can handle. They also served beer and sake. For the sides, there were plenty of selection of traditional salads. We added kimchi to our meal which complimented the ramen. Highly recommend if you need a ramen kick while in Monterey. read more

I highly recommend the kaki fry (Japanese-styled fried oysters). Perfectly done, fresh, in the top 10% of any fried oysters I've ever had, of any style. My only nit here would be the the little packet of sauce they give you. I'd prefer something house made, and an option to get tarter. Went to Monterey for Spring Break and it was a cold windy day and wanted something warm. This ramen place was about an 8min walk from our hotel. As we entered we were greeted. The gentleman in the front asked if we were returning customers and I said it was our first time and we're dinning in. He took the time to go over the menu, they have a self ordering kiosk in the front and he went over the steps and process and how to customize an order. I thought that was great even though we held up the line he was took his time. This building is elongated and it wasn't very roomy. I had a stroller with me so it made it even more hard to get around but the guy was a able to save us a table in the back where there was room for my daughters stroller. I ordered the curry ramen and gyoza. They worked so fast and got our orders in 5mins. The food came out hot a delicious. The broth was so good and tasted exactly how I imagined a ramen curry would taste. It was a large bowl and very filling. Highly recommend this place! If you go there, one menu on the side has "vegan" options and the menu on the other side has vegan crossed off and has been changed to vegetarian. I wanted the "vegan" curry ramen, but apparently it wasn't vegan in the first place. Very bad service. I called in advance to reserve a table and mentioned that I had two young kids. The waiter promised that he would leave a table for me. But when we arrived, the table was already given to someone else. The waiter asked whether we would be okay to sit on the bar, but didn't tell us they had no highchair for young kids even though it was very obvious the bar was too high for young kids and very unsafe without a highchair. When I found it out, I asked whether we could sit at the table outside, the waiter already gave the table to another group (white people) even though they were behind us. I can see they have their prioritization list on how to serve their customers and Asian is the least. Response to the owner's response: First, apologized for misused "servant" while I actually meant "server" (as an immigrant whose mother tongue is not English, I didn't know the difference between the two words. But I corrected that in my original comment). Second, I know we were ~10 mins late as it took much longer than expected to find a street parking (didn't know that because this was our first time here). So I accepted the fact that the table was given to another group and waited for more than 20 mins (from 6:12pm as you quoted to 6:35pm). After my 2yr old started crying hard because he was very hungry, I decided not to wait any longer but to take the food back to hotel. I was not happy with the experience, but I didn't shout - just asked for to-go and requested to get my tip back because I didn't get any service. I was offended when you refused to do that at the beginning and told me that you have the right not to serve me as a customer. Third, when your waiter told me that the table originally reserved for us was given to another group, he offered me to sit on the bar first without telling me that you have no highchair. If I had known you have no highchair, I would have made completely different choice (i.e. take the outside table). Obviously, your waiter saw my two young kids and it should be common sense that the bar is not suitable for such young kids without highchair (not to mention the bar chair doesn't even have back support and very unsafe for young kids). If I were the waiter, I wouldn't have even mentioned the bar as an option. read more

After seeing the four stars, as visitors from San Francisco, we decided to give this restaurant a try. It's very disappointing - I appreciate the effort to save food cost: instant noodle quality plus maybe just a couple pieces of meat and half an egg. It cost the 4 of us close to 100 dollars, the opposite price / quality we got from the closeby Italian restaurant. Also the service system is ridiculous - they tried to automate things and make you order and pay (including tips) on a keypad before having the meal. How could you possibly tell if the services would be good before receiving the services? For those of you who rated more than one star, I encourage you to visit a mediocre ramen store in either LA or San Francisco. read more
