Again, another amazing experience at Torino. I walked in with a friend, claiming that this restaurant is the best Italian restaurant in Metuchen. We were greeted and seated swiftly. We ordered fried calamari, chicken scarpariello, and tortellini carbonara. Needless to say, their calamari is well fried and tender; probably the most tender fried calamari that I've tasted around here. Chicken scarpariello was also surprisingly very juicy and flavorful. Also, this dish is massive. You will get an entire dish full of chicken, steamed vegetables, and mashed potatoes. Lastly, tortellini carbonara (I asked for heavier cream sauce than usual) was also very delicious. The best thing I like about the restaurant (aside from its flavor) is the ability to change your pasta and/or sauce. Yes, menus are set to taste its best but sometimes, but having the option is also very nice. Overall, everything was satisfying and I will definitely be coming back in the near future. Last night my husband and I decided to go to Torino last minute, and I could never be more glad about the choice. Even though they were completely booked we were able to sit outside due to the first come first serve basis they go off of. We ordered the mussels to start which were amazing. My husband had the Rigatoni Torino and I ordered the risotto seafood. To finish it off we ordered the delicious homemade tiramisu which nearly melted in your mouth. Everything was just so tasty and fresh we were very pleased. What made things even better was the service. We never even had to ask for much because it would already be taken care of. Most restaurants when they get that busy a person can't even order a glass of water but Torino was very professional and we thank them for the superb service. Torino is definitely somewhere we will add to our regularly visited places. If you haven't been there I highly recommend giving them a shot to make your night out a memorable one. read more

We were here yesterday for the Repast of a dear friend. Everything about Torino's was wonderful. Atmosphere is so pretty and the sun was just streaming in the window with their beautiful (large leaf) plants/greenery and outdoor furnishings as backdrop. Our meals were a Cesar Salad (always a good choice IMO,) and a choice of flounder franchise, eggplant parm, or chicken parm. I had the eggplant, my Mom had the chicken and our friend (the host) had the flounder. All were declared delicious. Wine and beer were brought in as Torino's is a BYO. To cap things off we had cappuccino or coffee. My Decaf was delicious as was the fresh biscotti. I have a hearing impairment and the wait staff discretely but kindly ensured I understood the offerings. Service was cordial and efficient. If you are looking for a wonderful place to host an Occasion or just want a nice afternoon or evening out I highly recommend Torino Two Metuchen. Five stars. read more

After doing lots of Yelp research we decided to try Torino for our anniversary dinner. Trying a new restaurant is always an experience- we had been to a couple of other local Italian restaurants and have been pretty disappointed. Let me start off by saying Torino did not disappoint on any level. It was a busy Saturday night- and we didn't make reservations as we decided pretty much on our way over where we were going to try. The restaurant was crowded and the hostess told us that there wouldn't be a table available for hours. I was bummed but understood- before we even had a chance to respond to her the owner offered to set us up with a little table as long as we didn't mind being close to the door. We were agreed and were grateful he accommodated us. The service was attentive but not in your face. We were immediately brought out bread and dipping oil. Then asked if we wanted our wine opened (BYOB- my new favorite thing about NJ restaurants). We then ordered our appetizers- fried calamari and the polenta. Both were simply amazing. The bolognese served under the polenta was probably the best we ever had. Our main courses were the pasta Torino and the chicken special of the night which was chicken with sausage, peppers and served over risotto. Both of us loved our entrees. The risotto was perfect, chicken super flavorful and the pasta was amazing! The wait staff came over several times during the meal and made sure we were ok- again without being overly intrusive or making us feel rushed. And then when we finished our main course the owner came out with Some sambucca and biscotti. We ordered coffee, cappuccino and the espresso mousse cake. Again amazing. Start to finish this meal was perfect- we can't wait to go back and we are SO happy to have found this true gem right in our neighborhood. One of the best meals ever! read more

Torino was delightful - we arrived for an 7:45 reservation and waited for our table to be cleared, but easily chatted with our friends in the lovely room. Seated, we quickly opened our wine (BYOB) and got into the menu and our conversation. Bread and oil were delivered - thankfully after ordering quickly received our delicious meals - ravioli in a light cream sauce, my amazing chicken florentine with potatoes and vegetables. They did not rush us at all, but after realizing we were one of the last tables - ordered tartufo, cream brûlée and tiramisu - all were amazing. Complementary glasses of amaretto continued the evening. The ambiance is so relaxing and inviting we had to check our watches. A pleasant room, attentive staff, not noisy. Recommend! read more

Because of managers attitude I am never going back. He refuse to accept the yelp offer for dessert. Started arguing with kids. I asked him to charge whatever he wanted so I can get out of the restaurant. He added 20% extra charges on all dishes and $7 additional on an appetizer, which they didn't specify while serving. It is not only about food when you go out to eat, it is about service too. In my 50+ years, I haven't come across this kind of arrogant restaurant manager in this country or outside of USA, and I have travelled quite a few places The place was open till 11 PM, we had gone there around 9:45 PM. Later on he started saying I did a favor to accept you for dinner this late. If it was some big chain, I would have gone up the chain to complain. For this case I am writing this on Yelp. I love trying new places and this quaint gem did not disappoint ! The service was fast , and the food is delicious (only thing they were missing is better grated parmesan chese. Had a really strange experience here tonight. Our food was awesome. However, at the end of our meal, while we were finishing our main course, the owner spent 40 minutes with his back to us talking to a couple that were apparently also restaurant owners. During this time, we were trying to have a bottle of wine opened. Unfortunately the busboy couldn't open the bottle so we just sat there. Sat there while the owner trash talked customers, people who write reviews on Yelp and anyone who has a bridal shower at his restaurant. When he was finally done talking to this couple, we tried to talk to him about how upset we were to have literally just been sitting there, ignored, for 40 min, and he was incredibly dismissive. Each year on my birthday, I get to pick a new neighborhood restaurant. Every year I have been lucky to find a new restaurant that becomes a regular spot for us. We didn't have any favorite local Italian places yet, and I am Italian myself, it is my favorite cuisine, so I was excited for the opportunity to bring Torino into our culinary repertoire. The complimentary bread was excellent. Had it been warm, it may have been the best I have had in a restaurant in a very long time. The special salad with burrata was extremely good, with a delightful lemon dressing. My Chicken Scarpariello was delicious. I loved that the chicken was in bite-sized pieces, which made it a pleasure to eat. The flavor of the sauce was superb, exactly what I would expect in this dish, and the sausage was delicious. The fried asparagus appetizer was excellent though the gorgonzola sauce seemed an oddly strong flavor to pair with delicate asparagus. A more traditional hollandaise would have escalated this to a new level, in my opinion. Unfortunately, my friend's scallops were off, with a fishy/ammonia taste. He has a kidney transplant and so avoiding expired seafood is understandably a high priority, food poisoning is potentially deadly. It was a slow night and our waiter was on the phone, so I had to finish my entire meal while my friend sat in front of a dish of smelly scallops. He then felt he had to rush to pick another selection, and consequently rushed through as much of the skirt steak that he could finish under the circumstances. The skirt steak was delicious. He was also heartbroken because my birthday dinner had become stressful. The fact that it was a very quiet and intimate setting added to the stress, as any hint of agitation would instantly disrupt such a quiet dining room. I did not want to leave this review, until I read that others had problems with scallops not being fresh. Had nobody else reported it here, I would have chalked it off as a one time mistake and never said a word. But repeating that mistake shows negligence. People do not return when expired seafood is served, or if they are unable to tell by the taste and feel ill the next day. It breaks a trust that a customer must have that what you are providing is safe to eat. Our visit was an invitation to gain new regular customers. The lesson here is, your chef has to know when seafood is off, and it has to be taken off the menu if you are out of any that is fresh. By serving it anyway you might save a few dollars if a few customers don't notice, but by serving it to a brand new customer who does notice, you lose thousands in future profits and the benefit of word-of-mouth recommendations. It is too bad, because if not for the scallops, I could easily have found myself here two or three times each month. read more

Third time here over the years, the other 2 times were not memorable in either way. Tonight was truly disappointing. Service was good, but the food was not. The caesar salad was lettuce with tons of cheese dumped on it, some croutons and very little if any dressing. Rigatoni Torino with sausage and peas was ok, I think I counted 5 peas total. My partners entree was very bland and the beet salad with goat cheese was presented very differently, the beets had barely any flavor. To top if off we were presented a couple complimentary biscotti, they tasted like they were in someone's sock drawer for a couple months. One bite was all we could muster. Great food, good service, excellent experience. This weekend we had our son's graduation party at Torino and it was amazing. All our guests were impressed with the food and the great service. It is a BYOB restaurant so we brought the wine for our party the day before. The day of the party the tables were set up nicely and just waiting for us to bring our decorations. I know that a lot of our guests are going to return to Torino to enjoy the delicious menu they have. Thank you to John, Adi, Bento, Ricardo and of course the chef for helping us to throw an amazing party for our son. I would have loved to give this cozy and cute restaurant a great review but their customer service was horrible. I added one extra person to the reservation and within steps into the restaurant, I was greeted with a list of things I did wrong. He even stated "the table next to you is already frustrated at the amount of chairs getting ready next to them" and I didn't even get seated yet!!! Instead of welcoming us to their restaurant and trying to accommodate the largest table there, I felt super uncomfortable. And it didn't get any better. They didn't come to our table for a while to take our orders, barely gave bread for 9 people. Dessert took about 30 minutes to come out and the chocolate soufflé came out cold and unappealing. If this is how service is normally there, I wouldn't recommend it. read more

Great fresh traditional Italian food. Nice cozy atmosphere, good selection on menu. I had chicken scarpariello gluten free with bolognese sauce. Kudos to Torino for gf options. Gf doesn't seem to have hit NJ or NYC much yet so thank you Torino! We had montepulciano d'abruzzo from the liquor store across the parking lot. Kids split rigatoni bologonese and loved it. Ricotta cheese cake obviously homemade and amazing. This is a great date restaurant, great family restaurant, great foodie restaurant and all around Italian restaurant that treats their customers and employees well. I recommend it whole heartedly. My family went here for my grandmas birthday and It was a wonderful experience. All of our appetizers and main dishes were all so delicious. The atmosphere was wonder and the service was top notch. Our waiter overheard my grandma (birthday girl) struggling to decide which meal she wanted and after she made her decision he brought out the second dish on the house. This is an awesome place for good Italian food. Decided to go here for dinner and I was very pleasantly surprised with the warm and inviting decor inside. From the outside it doesn't hold too many promises but once you're inside, you are treated with friendly staff, good food, and very reasonable prices. Their menu is quite easy to go through and has a lot of vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices. I loved their shrimp scampi dish as it reminded me of when my mom used to make it. Here is a good tip: Order their pistachio gelato at the end of your meal and you will not be disappointed. Overall, I am highly satisfied with this place and giving it a strong 5-star rating. This place is awful ! First off I love to support local business being from metuchen but this place is a rip off . I ordered a side of angle hair and marinara to go with the chicken parm My mom made me and they charged me $15.00! I called back after my husband got back because it's obviously a mistake plain pasta and plain marinara couldn't be the price as chicken parmigiana but it is! He told me whether I got chicken or plain pasta it's the same price. I went here last night with my husband, and we were both seriously disappointed. I had the pasta special (seafood over linguini in a fra diavlo sauce), and he had the whole wheat penne in a fra diavlo sauce. Both were completely flavorless - lacking any sort of spice, or even salt. In addition, my seafood was completely overcooked, and the clams were uncleaned. It's hard to ruin lobster tail for me - but they managed to. Granted, we've only been there once - so perhaps we ordered the wrong thing. But after that meal, I have no desire to go back and give it a second chance. read more

My fiancé and I took our family to torino last Saturday night. This was our fourth time here and every time was great but this last time was extra special. It was beautiful out and they were extremely busy. We made reservations and were seated outside within 10 minutes of arriving. For appetizers we ordered fresh mozzarella, fried calamari, shrimp, clams casino and scallops. The appetizers were AMAZING! Best calamari I've ever had! And the scallops were phenomenal! For our entres we ordered the chicken and gnocchi. I was so stuffed from the appetizers but I still had room for my gnocchi!! There was so much I had to take some home! I cant wait to go back. Highly recommend Torino for lunch or dinner! The service is great and the food is even better!!! A MUST TRY! read more

My wife and I have been here twice -- the second time just to see if there was any improvement. The food is generally bland and underseasoned. On our second visit, the scallop special appetizer that my wife ordered on our second visit still had the muscle attached, which was extremely rubbery and tough. My fra diavolo was anything but -- no flavor, just heat, and not enough heat at that. Add to that slow service and a apathetic wait staff, and what you get is mediocre at best. There are several things to love about this place, since I have been here a few times now, I would say that the best thing is their consistency with Food quality and Service. Made a reservation a day ahead. Called about 2 hours before hand to remind them and ask for a table near the bathroom. Show up on time and are told it will be a few minutes. 10 minutes in - can we open your wine for you so you can stand near the door and drink? A half hour later it will still be a few minutes. Manager kindly explains there is not much he can do. He overbooked, sorry. Needless to say we ate elsewhere.
