First time dinner at Toro at the Stone Oak location. Everything was outstanding, from service to food to ambiance. And the gaslights were a warm embrace eating out on the patio on a chilly Friday night. I took my son here last night for his birthday. My daughter and a friend of hers tagged along. None of us had been there before. We were pleasantly impressed. The drinks were well-made, including the coffees after dinner. The food was superb. We started with a few tapas: 1. Croquetas de Jamón Serrano - Perfectly executed Serrano ham with a bechamel sauce, breaded and fried to amazing, crispy meltiness. 2. Gambas al Ajillo - The shrimp were perfectly cooked and the garlic/chile oil was most excellent...garlicky is good! 3. Boquerones - Anchovies marinated with parsley, vinegar and garlic. The fillets were laid across some bread with a green olive on top. These were good, though a little too vinegary for my daughter. The four of us split a large Toro Paella, which was absolutely delicious and filling. Shrimp, mussels, chicken, calamari, mussels, pork belly, and Spanish Chorizo. A perfect combination of ingredients and seasoning. We sang my son a happy birthday and had a Lemon Carlota desert on the house. It was perfect. Just delicious. Did I mention the service? No? Super disappointing experience at Toro tonight- my first (and probably only) visit. I was with a group of 12, and ordered the Mediterranean salad with shrimp for dinner. Everyone was served their food (mostly tapas) gradually over about 20 minutes. About 20 minutes after the last dish was served to my tablemates and everyone was almost done eating, our server finally let me know that the Med salad was no longer available and asked if I'd like the Caesar. I said ok since that seemed like it could come out quickly, and I didn't want to hold up my dining companions. Another 15 minutes passed and the Caesar finally arrived. It had only 3 shrimp, and otherwise was a big plate of arugula - not even romaine! I ate my three shrimp, sent the rest back and left the restaurant hungry. We weren't charged for the salad, but I was seriously disappointed that no one offered me a meal to go or even an apology. Seems like a personal visit/apology from the manager was merited at the very least! read more

Wow. I am obsessed and I love with this place!! The ambiance, the sangria, carajillos, and food. Wow the foood was straight up amazing. I went on a date here and we got: Croquetas de jamón serrano, Dátiles tocino y queso, Chistorra, Morcilla, Pulpo a la gallega, Montadito de sobrasada, sardinas con aceite oliva y limon (conservas) and la paella toro. For desert we got las torrijas. I absolutely loved everything and we finished very thing! It sounds like a lot but the plates are very small and that was just for us 2 and the amount was filling and perfect. I will be returning soon! Highly recommend. read more

I hosted a small birthday get together here on a Thursday night. I'm so happy I found this place, I thinks its everything I've been looking for! The actual restaurant is a quint place but there is also outdoor seating. Our reservations were so easy to make on Yelp, confirmed by resturant, and properly honored. We started during the last hour of happy hour and so glad we did, we were able to share several different tapas and they were all very delicious! We had queso de cabra frito (a fried goat cheese ball on a baguette slice with a hint of sweet drizzle), tacos cochinitas pibil(spiced pulled pork with marinated onions)croquetas de jamom serrano, and patatas bravas. Each tapa was full of flavor and just the right portion. The sangria was really good. They had a great selection of wine, I had a Spanish Tempranillo that was a bit lighter in flavor then I prefer but still an easy enjoyable drink but when I discussed with the server, he recommended a cabernet sauvignon from Spain that was way more of my preference. Now let's discuss the service we received, Angel was excellent! I can't say enough of how good he was. He did such an awesome job of serving on us, there when we needed him, approached us at appropriate times, fully answered our menu questions, made suggestions, and was friendly in a very professional way. This visit was made during happy hour but I would go anytime. read more

Toro is one of my favorite places in San Antonio! It's just such an appropriate spot for a date night or a girls night or a "sib date" as me and my little brother call it. We usually get a meat & cheese board, a bottle of wine and a few tapas. Listen to me - get. the bacon. wrapped. dates. Do it or you will regret it. They're so damn good. I don't even remember what's inside right now because I can't think straight because I'm imagining myself eating them. Get them. The scallops were delicious too. Honestly everything I've had here is great. Their paella is great but it isn't the best I've had. Still, try it. GREAT place for wine, foods, atmosphere, everything about this place is fun. The tapas are the perfect size! Not too small. 3 or 4 will serve 2 very well. The flavor is bursting from each. My only suggestion is that the live music, while beautiful, is too loud outside. People have to raise their voices to speak. For an hour and half dinner that's a lot to do. read more

Went here for happy hour and had a great time. It is decorated with several splashes of colors and with unique items. Great wine and cocktail menu that had a nice outdoor seating area. Hubby and I sat at the bar and Jaime took care of us. He did a great job making conversation and recommendations. We ordered the Happy Hour pitcher of sangria for $15 and several tapas that peaked our interest. We will definitely be back to see Jaime again and try additional tapas. read more

This isn't going to be a pleasant review, so you might want to move along and read a positive review about this place. I was here for a Friday happy hour recently, and although the food was good, the service flatout sucked - and I don't use that word in many reviews, trust me on that. There were probably a dozen of us there around 5:30pm and the waitress made her way around half of the table for drink and food orders and then stopped and disappeared. I waited for 5 minutes and finally decided to walk up to the bar and order my Estrella - I got it quick and came right back to the table. The server finally asked for my order about 10 minutes later. Our food orders came out pretty quick and the food was good, but flagging our server down for refills or for additional food was tough. I ordered something simple - the Papas Bravas. It was very good and very spicy - but I like spicy. It also came with a side of some sort of garlic/mayo sauce that was good. I also sampled someone else's Huevos Rotos - fried potatoes with a fried egg on top. It was good, but make sure you tell them how you want the egg cooked, because they don't ask. Someone else had the octopus and I warned them it might be gritty based on a prior review, but they said it was really good. The place is not very large, it's LOUD, and very cramped. It's hard for the servers and the customers to get in and out of the table areas. Happy Hour is ok. They have $6 "select tapas" but you have no idea which ones since it's not listed on the menu, and good luck asking the server, because you can't hear anything in here. They seem very short staffed, so the servers don't have much time to answer questions. They have three draft beers for $4 for happy hour. One is a Spanish beer - Estrella - the other two were Stella Artois and I *THINK* a Mexican beer, but I can't swear to that - it might have been Michelob Ultra for all I know. Final note: the Tacos de Cochinita Pibil (marinated pork) peaked the interest of someone in our group but it was going to take 1.5 hours before it was ready - I understand this takes a long time to cook, but it was 6pm - shouldn't they have it ready to go? In summary, good food, poor service, very loud, and cramped seating arrangements. Even for small groups. read more

I went for an early dinner. I lived in Barcelona for a little while and I love the Tapas concept. Small dishes where you can get good variety. The only thing is with tapas in Spain you get very small portions at a low price. The tapas at toro were quite large and slightly high priced. I wish they had tapas options for singles (1/4 or 1/2 portion at 1/3 or 2/3 cost) that way people can try several options. I only had the Octopus Gallego. It was delicious but too large to order two dishes and to small to really be an entire dinner. I can see going with a group and having family style tapas would be a better experience. read more
