We loved the coffee shop that used to be in this location, so we were a bit sad to see it go, but Toro is a great replacement! We stopped by on a Sunday, so they were having specials during the afternoon. I think this included their sangrias, so we got a pitcher! It was really yummy and refreshing! We didn't try their paella which is a big portion of their menu, but we did try a few of their tapas and a cheese board. The cheese board was pretty good with plenty of Spanish cheeses. The tapas were hit or miss. We tried the Croquetas de Jamón Serrano, and they were probably our favorite, but the fideo can definitely be skipped. I've seen lots of good things about their fries so I'd like to try those next time! (They don't call them fries :) I just can't remember what they are called.) The prices were a bit high for some of the items, but if you go, try their specialties and skip some of the other menu items for the best value. read more

Enjoyable evening with some tapas and wine. The staff was very friendly and made us laugh. The food was amazing the only downfall was that our paella was a little burnt on the bottom. Everything else made up for it! We ordered a bottle of wine and the waiter was sure to refill my glass when he saw it getting low. Water was constantly refilled and I loved that. Be careful, the prices on the menu are not the actual prices. When the bill arrived everything was more expensive. They are robbing people and they know about it since the waiter said let me take care of it after I complained and he gave me 10% discount which brought the check back to the menu prices. From the tapas to the decor it was such a wonderful dinner! Felt like I was in Spain again. The Tortilla Española and Paella was just like mom makes it. I was so excited to see boquerones on the menu. One suggestion from this Española...please offer una barra de pan (bar of bread/baguette). It's a staple at every meal. We went on a rainy day and at an odd hour, like 3:50pm, so it wasn't crowded, which we loved. The place is super cute, super Spanish, looks very authentic. We ordered 2 tapas: croquetas de jamon serrano and piquillos rellenos. NO question there, the croquetas were the best ones! Amazing! Then for the entree we ordered a seasonal paella that to be completed honest I don't remember which one it was, but it was GREAT too. Came here on Thursday night with a friend from Houston! She came the night before and said I wouldn't mind coming back here when we talked about Dinner. Her now deceased husband (RIP) was originally from Spain and he was an amazing cook. She said that the paella at at Toros was better than his. So of course we had to go. When my son and I arrived she was enjoying some tapas of calamari. We joined in and had some of those delicious morsels. Yummy. We ordered more tapas. The first one up was the croquettes and then the little mini tacos. Wow. Love them. My drink was a delightful gin drink from their well selected and created menu of drinks. My boyfriend accidentally made reservations for the downtown location, so when we arrived we realized that, but the host was very accommodating and got us a table immediately- we were very grateful for that. It was my boyfriend's second time here and my first. The atmosphere is very cute with the outdoor seating and live music. The inside seating seemed cramped. Service was good and food was good. We had the Toro Paella which we thoroughly enjoyed. We also had the Mejillones al Vino, which were the mussels in a kind of not so flavorful runny sauce. We also had the Ceviche de Pulpo which was nice and spicy and delicious. For drinks, I had the white sangria that was way too sweet. My boyfriend had the Torres Paloma that he liked. Stopped by for late lunch. Their menu is fairly small and it would be fine but it's a bit eclectic. BBQ baguette with fries (can order a salad instead) ? Cochinita pibil tacos? In a tapas restaurant? Not common. I noticed that some pics on Yelp have 3 tacos to the plate (for the pibil) and we only got 2. Our only true tapa was the stuffed peppers (I always forget are cold/room temp) were not very flavorful. Sangria was on the sweet side and did not have any fruit and they did not have Spanish beer on draft (3 draft lines- modelo, Stella, and one other). The restaurant itself is pretty cool but it's fairly expensive for the amount of food that you get- and although it's typical for tapas to be on the higher price point not sure is we are quite there yet. The authentic taste and quality of the Spanish food was the best I had ever had since eating in Palma Mallorca. The ambiance: solid. Small yet cozy with picturesque spots all around or on their patio. They paid attention to detail when building this out. Food: every dish I had was great! The paella...delicious! They have cut the traditional paella cooking time in half which makes it possible for them to serve many styles and not have you waiting forever! My choice was the TORO - 22 small/38 large Jumbo shrimp, mussels, chicken, ribs, pork belly & Spanish chorizo The small can probably serve 3-4 accompanied with more appetizers which of course I had. Next up... Croquetas de Jamón Serrano / Serrano ham croquettes with Manchego - 10 The Croquetas were tasty filled with Serrano ham and manchego cheese. And... Tortilla Española / Traditional recipe with potatoes, egg & onion - 8 The Tortilla Española is definitely something to order. It's not your typical tortilla so if you are unfamiliar, think potato and egg (w/onion) pie and cut up in pie pieces with a side dipping sauce that's paired perfectly! I couldn't walk away from this experience without trying their dessert menu so I chose the Carlota: Carlota - 9 Lemon ice box cake, layered with Maria cookies and sweet cream topped with pecans The layering of this dessert ensures each bite included some cookie! I'm basically a Cookie Monster so I was just fine with that! Think lemon cheesecake with a crunchy center and tart finish. You have to love tart desserts to appreciate this one but it hit the mark with me! This is a late night spot and brunch spot so don't go in for happy hour thinking you will be and a lovely bar. They would prefer that I'm sure but it has not received that happy hour crowd just yet. Thursday's-Saturday's....7pm and on...be prepared to wait and hear some live music and I heard dancing as well. My friend was craving tapas so I found this place on yelp. The exterior and interior were awesome so my expectations were elevated. Disclaimer: I have never had tapas or paella before so I didn't really know what to expect. If everything I complain about is part of the experience then I guess the experience just wasn't for me. Anyways, we decided to order a small toro paella which comes with sausage, pork, and shrimp. For our tapas we just ordered huevos rotos because my friend has some obsession with fries. We also ordered a small board of spanish salami, goat cheese, sheep cheese, and cow cheese. I don't remember the names unfortunately but I honestly don't think it even matters. The tapas came out first. It was a bowl of fries and an over easy fried egg on top. The bottom was full of some sort of spicy oil and the fries are drenched in them. Despite the awesome flavors and good portion size they were surprisingly bland so ketchup came a long way when we asked for it. I really enjoyed this dish. Next came the charcuterie board. I was very disappointed with how little the board comes with. $16 for like 3 thin slices of salami, four thin slices of cheese, a scoop of cheese, two tiny peppers, 1.5 almonds, a hardened cube of jelly, a teaspoon of jelly, a couple of pieces of bread and two halves of an apricot seems a little expensive. Maybe I was just spoiled by the charcuterie board at Cured but this was pretty sad. Despite the disappointing portions the taste was fine. Nothing to rave about. Could have done without this and just ordered more tapas instead. Last but not least was the paella. I guess the theme of this restaurant is being stingy with portions. They gave plenty of this rice that tasted undercooked. Not sure if thats how paella is supposed to be but the table next to ours said their rice was burnt. There were literally two pieces of shrimp, two mussels, two pork ribs, and some sausage in the small toro paella. For $22 this was not a bargain at all. The rice just kept tasting undercooked to me so I did not bother to finish the plate. This experience probably ruined paella for me forever and if it wasn't for Cured it probably would have ruined charcuterie boards for me as well. If you have to come here I recommend just getting the tapas. Otherwise just spend $60 somewhere else. read more

Their paella (classic & marinara) both are as good as I had in Barcelona, Spain; and they don't skimp on the seafood. Seriously, the shrimps were colossal size. Try their liquor 43. If you like cheese, they have a great appetizer (I think it's mozzarella) lightly grilled with honey and 43 liquor drizzled - its divine! Their bacon wrapped dates are delicious too. The white sangria is very good - we had 2 pitchers. We had a bunch of tapas with the paella, which I recommend the way to go. Needless to say, we left completely satisfied and full.
