As soon as you walk in you feel as if you've stepped straight into Spain! The interior design and overall aesthetic of this restaurant is amazing! The menu can be overwhelming and it was for me, so we asked our server for recommendations and general questions about the menu as well. To start we ordered "queso de cabra frito" (fried goat cheese with caramelized onions and honey... sooo delicious! Highly recommend! My family celebrated my mom's birthday by having lunch here recently. We came on a Sunday afternoon and there was only one other couple in the establishment. The menu had numerous tapas and paellas to choose from. Our table ordered several tapas. They were pretty tasty but didn't go very far since there were 9 of us. However, it was nice to try a variety of items. My wife and I ordered the vegetarian paella to share between us. It was good but I guess I was expecting more for the price we paid. I'm not sure it's for me and my family...I understand the need to make things efficient but too many shortcuts taken at the price of freshness and flavor quality. At the end of the day, the cost of dining here to the quality of food served is quite high. It offers a lot of cool candy for the eyes and fascination in the menu. It has Jámon presented everywhere, the lighting was on and off sometimes too bright and sometimes too dark (wished they left it alone, flickered back and forth throughout the 1.5 hours we were there. The presentation of pretty glass art and aerators (wine pitchers) were cool. The noise level is a bit too high, you can hear eachother but it was a bit distracting with the TV (sports), music, and the volume of people's voices (indoors). I think single folks would like this place to socialize. Honestly the tapas prices isn't out of this world, pretty reasonable. They could've worked on some presentations. The relleno was a cold dish where they stuck a small cheeseball into a pre roasted pepper, no wonder it took them 30 seconds to bring it out. They probably could do it a little bit better by warming it up. The Solomillo was $17-$18, but just four kinda cold cubed sirloin pieces....with basically garlic mayo on the side. I think the presentation can use more work...That was quite disappointing. The drinks are just basic stuff. The award winning Toro Paella was well cooked and flavorful but VERY DISAPPOINTED. The shrimps were cold, super bland, and tasted like tap water. Wish there was more thought and care into it. The same with the mussels. These two pieces ruined the entire experience for me. We also had some croquette, well executed..deep fried mashed potatoes really but it was delightful. The bread they serve...cold, un-toasted (which is fine), no butter, no oil, no cream cheese, just cold (not fresh-I'm thinking at 24-48 has passed) baguette looking slices. My husband and I have been wanting to try this place out for a long time but timing has never been right. We finally got a free night and were eager to try them out. We made our reservation on Yelp and our table was ready right when we got there. Overall our experience was very nice but there would be some things I would do differently next time. AMBIANCE: It was very busy and our table was inside so next time we'll definitely make our reservation for outdoor seating. Inside it was very loud, I wasn't expecting that. Our table was right next to the wine cellar which was nice, but it was also right in between the kitchen door and the walkway to the bathroom, so we constantly had people walking right up against our table. They also have single stahl restrooms so there seemed to always be a line outside the door. But the bathroom is super cute and I snapped a pic in their very large mirror. Panela 43, I can't even put into words how happy this made me. Grilled panela cheese, with Licor 43 and honey! Holy cow! It was like cheese meets French toast! Cut this baby in half and put it on a piece of toasted baguette . . . Delectable! Aceitunas, variety of Spanish olives. I love olives but these were refrigerator cold. Again, not sure if they were supposed to be cold but I personally would've liked them to be room temperature or warm with some olive oil. PAELLA: Paella Vegetariana, added shrimp. I know, weird. But my husband gets horribly sick from pork so we had to order the vegetarian paella and add shrimp just to make sure he was safe from not getting any contamination. I wasn't a fan but I'm not blaming Toro. I will come back with my kids and get the paella jam packed with all the meat and seafood on another visit, I was really missing the animal fats and flavor in the rice. It was a bit salty but I'm sure the other paella flavors are much more balanced since they have meat. NEED TO KNOW: Paella is the only entree, you can eliminate a meat but you cannot substitute. There was decent parking when we came, but one of the larger restaurants seemed like it wasn't open for dinner yet. The space was intimate, but the ambiance was great. There was an outdoor area, but I'm not sure if it was for this restaurant or the one next door. The decor was Spanish themed. There was a bar on one wall and a large glass wine cellar in the back. The food was incredible and we ordered way too much. It's hard to gauge how large plates will be at a tapas place and you really get your money's worth here. On April 13 we had some plans with some friends but we changed where to have dinner so I suggested Toro because I love the food but I received the worse customer service that day. I asked for a table for four and the hostess in the front who is short and had a pixie blonde haircut didn't catch her name but she said in a rude tone "do you have a reservation"? I apologized and said no "I didn't know I needed one because I've been here many times and never made one". Then a waitress came to talk to her and spoke Spanish and started talking bad about us and saying how we just got here and didn't even have a reservation and started complaining even saying some other not so nice things. Our group and I speak Spanish fluently and I responded saying that "I know I didn't have a reservation but we are willing to wait if they can accommodate us". Normally I don't like to complain because I get it working in the food industry you get encounters with so many people and some may not be so nice or we life is tough and it was probably a rough day for her because it was busy but I truly genuinely was willing to wait. I had contemplated about leaving which I should've because I felt like our night was ruined I didn't really get to enjoy the night which is sad because I raved about this establishment. I was able to speak very quickly with the manager Andrew Galvan and he did apologize. It's just sad overall because the food really is good here and I even tried a new plate which was grilled panela cheese with honey it was an AMAZING dish that I wanna order it again, maybe I should order take out next time because regardless not getting the best customer service the food here is still a 10/10 so hopefully it was just a one time thing. read more

Great place for food and drinks, especially during happy hour (weekdays 2-7pm)! I've been to the Downtown location, so I knew a little bit of what to expect when coming here for an early Friday dinner. There was only one other seated table when we arrived at 4pm, so reservations probably aren't necessary unless you're coming closer towards dinner time (6-7pm). I got the Barcelona (gin drink) because it was divine when I tried it at their other location. Unfortunately, it was a bit of a miss at this location. The rosemary was almost undetectable, and it tasted more like a spiked raspberry lemonade--still yummy, but not what I wanted. For food, we started with the large Tablado del Chef, Calamares Fritos, and Chistorra. We also ordered a small Toro Paella with Socarrat, which takes about 30 minutes to prepare. The Tablado had a wide variety of meats & cheeses and included olives, mustard, pickled peppers, toasted bread, and fruit preserves. It's a good option to get if you want a charcuterie board but don't know the specific items to pick a la carte. The Calamares Fritos were very tender and delicious. The Chistorra was fun to try, but I probably wouldn't reorder it. There were only 6 small pieces of the meat, and the meat itself wasn't anything spectacular texture-wise nor taste-wise. The Toro Paella packed a punch of flavor, and there were so many pieces of chicken, chorizo, calamari, and pork belly. The two jumbo shrimps on top were perfectly cooked and tasted like the sea, not fishy or mealy at all. Likewise, the two mussels were also a nice size and tasted good. However, the Socarrat wasn't very crispy or noticeable. I personally prefer the Downtown location for their ambiance and slightly better food & drink quality, but this location at Stone Oak is also a fantastic option if you don't want to make a trip downtown. read more

Food was pretty good and service was very good. My complaint is the processing fee added to my bill. Manager claimed that this was standard for credit card purchases. Visa says that is correct but that the merchant agreement states companies cannot charge that for debit cards, which is what I was paying with. Toro lost a customer last night. Our party of four (2 couples) visited Toro Stone Oak on a Saturday night. We had a reservation for 7:00; we were seated promptly upon arrival. The restaurant was almost full and a Spanish guitarist was playing. We were seated directly in front of the guitarist and although he was not playing very loud, it was very difficult to have a conversation as we couldn't hear each other over the music Our waiter graciously moved us to another table where we could talk without yelling. We ordered a variety of drinks and several food items to share. We kept a menu at the table so we could continue to order additional items as we ate. All food orders came out quickly which provided perfect timing for our dinner. Some of the items we enjoyed included Jamon Iberica, Solomillo, Patatas Bravas, Pulpo Al Ajillo, Queso De Cabra Frito, and Champiñones Lugo. When we received the bill, it listed several things that we did not order. It also included a "Processing Fee" that appeared to be approx 4% of the total bill. Our waiter apologized for the unordered items and promptly removed them. But he could not provide an explanation what the "Processing Fee" was for. Management: If you feel you need more revenue, increase your menu prices. Don't charge a separate "Processing Fee" that appears to be an additional charge for your overhead expenses. And.....provide your waitstaff with an answer for astute customers who ask about this fee. "I don't know" is not a satisfactory answer! And along the same lines: Your suggested gratuities on the bottom of the bill are a percentage of the ENTIRE bill - food, drinks, tax, and the mysterious Processing Fee. Why should I pay a gratuity on sales tax and fees? Despite the less-than-pleasant interactions about the bill, we thoroughly enjoyed the service, ambience, and food at Toro.
