Bacchus Capital Management has done it again! Toro Sushi sits off the main drag in BSL. They have a small side parking lot which is an added bonus considering the parking constraints of downtown. The space is gorgeous. Bright white walls with blue accents. They boast a spacious indoor seating area complemented by even more seating in their upstairs bar/balcony area. We didn't have a reservation but we got there early enough in the evening that we were able to snag some seats at the bar and able to see the gorgeous sunset from the balcony. When I first saw the menu, I'll admit I was underwhelmed. This is NOT your normal sushi restaurant, which is what I was expecting. It is more of a Japanese tapas bar. It is super unique. To start off, I ordered the lychee mojito. It was pricey but good. We did the spicy edamame as an appetizer and it was spicy indeed and very tasty. For my entree, I selected the spicy California roll and it was a great size and very delicious. My date got the tuna tacos which I also sampled and they were also excellent. To top it all off, the service was spectacular- the young lady and gentleman working the bar were top notch and they were the cherry on the top for a wonderful dining experience. read more

Woah, this place is legit! I've been following the concept for some time and wow, it surely exceeded my expectations. The rolls are huge, the menu is diverse and delicious. The servers were very nice and attentive. The vibe is very cool. There's a bar upstairs that I want to try soon! I highly recommend. The price point is high- on par with fine dining and so worth it! We have been to Toro twice. First dine in, second to go. First was very average but they were only a week old! Tonight we pick up, and I am truly embarrassed for these folks. Sushi doesn't touch Claiborne Hill's, that is sad. Rice hard, the Spicy Bite roll was drenched in spicy mayo. We actually ate what we got from Toro's and then went Claiborne Hill to get more sushi. God bless these folks! The food in the pic below was $53.00. Our whole order fit in that one box. The Nicaud bros may have missed on this one. I love some of there other spots. The food was really good...not AMAZING, but solid. Staff were very nice, but it took 20 minutes to even be acknowledged by our waitress. We went on Valentine's Day. Made our reservation 2 months in advance, for 8:30, as that was only one available,(good sign???). The restaurant was overly bright, no romantic vibes at all. Also, they were out of items on the menu... which was very disappointing. I think we will try them again, as a more casual night out option. read more

Idk, but this poor place needs help. I tried to give it a second chance after a really horrible first experience. our first time here, it took almost three hours for everyone to get served and it was evident they ran out of ingredients because the last people to get their food the rice was mushy and tasted not great, was missing garnishes. So we waited a week, made reservations. We show up after driving from an hour away and their chef wasn't available. So only their appetizer options were available. Like they shouldn't be taking reservation, or at least call so we didn't make the whole drive. Anyways, this place still needs to figure things out. Like have backup plans, or call people who make reservations to say they're not serving a full menu. read more

We came here shortly after they opened in the fall. We sat upstairs and the place was beautiful. The food was amazing. Since we live in Nola, we visit BSL once a month and try to visit all the places in rotation. We visited again today and made reservations thinking it might be busy due to Pirate Day. We check in and are pretty much dismissed right away as the guy tells us to "just go upstairs and grab a table." We get upstairs and are immediately interrogated by the waitress who seemed annoyed that we just sat at a table even though they were all available. She hands us menus and as I am looking for the items we got last time, she rudely says that whole menu has changed and that the items I wanted are not there. She seemed as if she hated her job. Maybe she could have offered suggestions for the items, but nope. So we order. The service was awful. We watched as she just leaned against the bar and didn't care that our drinks were empty. It got really old to have to get up and go to the bar for sweeteners, again for straws. We had to ask for everything like soy sauce then she brings out a half filled one. Thank god the bartender stepped in and tried to help after I had to get up several times to ask for things. I could understand if they were packed, but we were the only people up there for awhile and then another table came. We ordered 3 of the same items that we have previously. All 3 were radically different. The spicy mayos and spicy sauce on the tuna were so overwhelming that the tuna was literally swimming in it. It seemed like some sort of cayenne pepper was also on top. The sushi did not have that blend of fresh flavors that it had the first time. The fried rice with shrimp was 30.00 and the shrimp were super dry and flavorless and the rice was hard. I was so disappointed bc this place was such a breath of fresh air to all the normal places and the setting is gorgeous. The food quality and the service has dropped so much. I left sad and disappointed. I can't see this succeeding if they can't find that original elevated flair. read more

This place is so good!! The BEST edamame I've ever had. Smoked sea salt was so good! The salmon sashimi was so flavorful! We also got the lava rock and the steak was flavorful and delicate and a huge portion. The ambiance of this place is bright, modern and clean. I am definitely returning asap! read more

We came here when they first opened and gave them a 5 star review. I guess it's hard times now. The sushi rolls have increased in price and shrunken in size. The service was good. The rolls are massive in circumference , it's not what you would expect from a pricey sushi restaurant. The crispy rice and spicy tuna is not good. The rice is like a huge block that tastes like freezer burn on the inside and the caviar on top is very fishy and makes the entire bite taste super fishy. I wanted to really like this place but the oversized portions do not make sense for Japanese food, sushi in particular. read more
