Based on this one experience, I will need to give this location a five-star review. Have gone to the Torrance location many times but always forget that there's another location in Gardena (note: closed on Sundays unlike Torrance location!) Was in the area recently and decided to stop in on a whim since it had been some time since I've had their cookies: specifically their chocolate chews and their maple. Located on busy Western Avenue, one block south of Redondo Beach Blvd, next to Bob's Hawaiian. I think in my kid days, the location used to be Ishigo Bakery? Although this location is much smaller than the Torrance one, it seems that they offer much of the same items. My initial feeling is that it is much easier to access in terms of parking and looking at the display cases. Seems that they share a small parking lot with their neighboring businesses, but I was able to find street parking ( read the signs, as there is street cleaning in certain days). I was able to place my grab and go order with a friendly staff member who was very welcoming and handled my transaction efficiently and with a personal touch. Pro tip: Yelp check-in for a free decorated cookie! My cookies were perfectly packed with care (not just thrown in like other places) and they tasted so fresh and good...consistency is key here. I have 4 check ins at this location and each time I visit the chocolate chews are divine. I think they are slowly getting pricier and I found out today that they don't do the Wednesday buy a lb get a lb free thing anymore. The worker said its been like that for a long time. Guess it has been a while... I think the reviews giving this place 1 star based on service alone kind of sucks- especially when the rest of the review talks about how amazing the treats are. I agree that lousy customer service can RUIN the experience, but I think these cookies are so good that they compensate for the negative attitudes. At least enough to warrant 2 stars. All of my experiences at this location have been decent so I'm holding onto my rating. It would be 5 stars if it was a little cheaper and offered some standing tables or an area to hang out for a little bit. The maple pecan chews are out of this world good! Unbe-leaf-ably chewy, chunky, and nutty!! I pe(can) eat a dozen of these! They are on the sweet (brown sugar, maple flavoring, and possibly other sweeteners) side but contrast nicely with the milder flavor of the pecans. On the other hand, the chocolate chews are fudgy in the center and crunchy on the outside. After a day, the not-so-crispy-anymore outer edges will require a jaw workout! Hence, the chocolate chews are not my favorite but I appreciate that they are flourless. Overall, the cookie tops are a beauty - lightly cracked and glossy at every angle. Great bakery to splurge on some cookies, pastries, and cakes but the decadence comes at a higher than usual price tag. read more

Great cakes but the service is just the worse ever. For such a good bakery they do absolutely no training in customer service for the front staff. It's horrible! Those young girls are clueless! Come on please train your people So my daughter picked up her cake yesterday but the cake had no decorations on top. I asked for a quilt design on the cake and assumed that the whole cake would be quilted. I asked them if I could bring the cake back for some flowers on top and at first the girl said yes let me find the right time for you to come then she says because of the virus no. Sooooo a cake is going to give you the virus???!!! But we have to trust that you're not spreading it through your cakes??? That goes both ways. This bakery is in a decent price range and literally walking distance from where I live. I do like to shop local and support local businesses. My favorite baker is amazing but can get pricey so the moral of this story is you get what you pay for. I did make the poor decision to come here about once a year. No lie... each and and every time I come they mess up on my custom order. Earlier this year my adult daughter placed a custom cookie order and they gave her a credit. She transferred the credit to me because she will never go back (I'll let her Yelp her experience) anyway it was from the gate poor communication with emails, a pain to use the credit and I just wanted a basic round cake with roses in the shape of a heart on top with little leaves here and there. I even provided a picture. So both visuals and written instructions. Got the email quote back confirming everything but had to call a couple times for them to take payment and confirm pick up. Hey I'm never EVER going to chase you down to take my money for an incorrect cake ever again. I spoke to 4 separate people even one from the Torrance location since "corporate" handles all credits and they are conveniently always in a meeting. Everyone's tone wasn't great... I wouldn't say rude but definitely miserable. If I were to guess they seemed overworked and that their work environment wasn't the greatest. So basically the heart was not a heart and it looked more like a holiday wreath and the roses were not roses they were weird flowers and to me looked weird. I understand that sometimes customers are here's a picture of something crazy and it's not able to recreate but ROSES? And a heart shape is pretty basic. The man that worked their got rude with me when I was frustrated at the situation upon pick up and offered me a credit but he was rude. It's okay son I won't be back! They ended up giving me some stale a$$ cookies for free. Its laughable that they just can't get it right. The staff was so professional and very patient with me even when I had to reschedule my wedding day twice due to COVID. My husband and I decided to take a chance on this bakery for our wedding cake and we could not have been more thankful. Not only was our cake perfect, it was so delicious and the pastries were a hit! Hidden in a run down little shop plaza that you'd miss if you blinked this place is really gem! I originally frequented the Torrance Bakery on El Prado but this one is much less crowded AND always has my favorite in stock...The Red Velvet cookies! Yum!. The shop on El Prado often sells out of them. (so you'know they're amazing!) I also tried their fudge brownie today and it was melt in my mouth delicious, I will definitely be having another of those. I came to Torrance Bakery looking for somewhere to sit and get work done. I arrived after lunch, and they were sold out of croissants, unfortunately. I ordered an apple danish and cup of coffee. The coffee was good, and the danish was okay--it probably would have been better earlier in the morning. There were many other sweets in the display that looked delicious, though! There were several tables available inside and also tables outside to work or sit and chat at. There is also free parking available in the front and back of the bakery, which is a major plus! I've been a loyal customer to the Torrance bakery for years even my family, and the past three years that I've came they can never produce the cake that I present to them, always having to make adjustments, seems like Torrance bakery no longer cares about the customer just what is inexpensive. I can't recommend this bakery highly enough! I ordered a custom tiered cake for my parents' 50th anniversary party. I wanted a smaller replica of their wedding cake from 1972 and brought in a photo for reference. The worker who handled my consult was patient and very helpful as I worked through all the choices. 14yrs ago we ordered our wedding cake at the Torrance Bakery located in Torrance. We noticed the same bakery open a shop in Gardena, closer to us and we had to try it.. Walking in I noticed and received the same good customer service and attention we once had at the other location. I have to say this was a surprise, customer service tends to fall when business grow and expand or open new locations. The taste was as GOOD as I remember it.
