Worth a visit, better than average, large portions. There isn't a ton to say here other than yes, this is teriyaki chicken. We found the teriyaki sauce slightly thicker, the chicken more tender, but otherwise I could close my eyes and be in any teriyaki joint. That's not a bad thing, I love teriyaki, just nothing to really stand out (some places have a killer garlic sauce or spicy sauce or the chicken hits different). My son loved the tender chicken more than other places. It was juicy and very soft to the point we wondered if it was better chicken or tenderized more. For me, I prefer other places with a little more bite to the chicken when in teriyaki (not hard or stringy, just that surface tension from a slight char and the inner juicyness). Gyoza and egg roll were very hot and good, but otherwise literally identical to other places (which I'm fine with. I love those flavors) Staff was really nice. I wish the food didn't come in a togo plastic bag even when eating there...unnecessary plastic waste just to carry it 5 feet to a table. read more

I got Chicken Stirfry and my husband got Teriyaki Chicken. Surprisingly, the Chicken Stirfry (which had veggies) was $1 more even though there was less protein. I didn't mind though, the vegetables were really nicely cooked and helped balance the plate. My husband got the Teriyaki Chicken as he is more of a meat eater than me. The portions were HUGE and my stirfry only cost $10.99. For that cheap price, the chicken didn't seem as fresh as I would've liked, but again, the portions were huge and overall the flavor was really good. A solid 4. Definitely would have been a 5 if the beef was actual steak. We've heard about Toshi's for a while now and still haven't made it to the original Mill Creek location, but we will soon! As we happened to be in the Kirkland area, we decided to pop in an hour before closing time. The place was empty, but the crew there were enthusiastic to take our orders nonetheless. :) We went with the Chicken Teriyaki (T1) and the Beef Teriyaki (T4). Each comes with rice and pickled coleslaw. If you've had pickled cabbage and carrots at a Chinese restaurant, this is the same thing, just chopped finely. Hands down the chicken was the winner, with the right smokey flavor from the grill and just enough sweetness and bite. The accompanied sauce was too salty, but you don't need it as the chicken flavor is great on its own. The meat itself was moist and tender. No complaints there. Beef was a bit too chewy for my liking and there was a lot of cartilage in the cuts. Perhaps the short ribs have a better texture, so we might try that next time. At $9.99 though, it was a lot of food, but the $8.99 for the chicken was totally worth it. I imagine that this place gets pretty busy during lunch with Google offices just down the street, so keep that in mind if you're coming during the day. All in all, the food is tasty, it's cheap, portions are generous and the quality and flavor are all there for the price! We'll certainly be back! read more

I've been going to various Toshi's for years. One of my best friends worked with Toshi back during our college days when Toshi was a cook at a local Japanese restaurant. Since these are franchises, the quality of the food and the restaurant varies dramatically. This Toshi's is in a small strip mall near Google's Kirkland office. It's pretty small so you may not be able to find a seat during busy times. I ordered the chicken katsu, which is what I buy for comparison's sake. It was cooked well and came with rice and salad. The portion was really big, which if you are looking for value means you can split it into 2 meals. Taste wise it wasn't bad. Just not spectacular. Restaurant wise, I'm not sure why the teriyaki shops in general never wipe the walls down. It doesn't take much effort to take time to clean walls. It would brighten up the place (without painting it) and make it more appetizing. Service was decent, but not inviting or friendly. Take the order and give you the food. The real star was the shredded cabbage salad--not cole slaw with mayo based sauce, but more vinegary. It was just the right amount of crunch and sour tang. So good! I admire the work that tiny restaurants like these have to put in to run a business. Toshi's is a tiny teriyaki joint that is very easy to miss, but I'm glad I caught it because I was able to get a surprisingly satisfying lunch here for an unusually low price. I hope the people running this place know that they've found the key to getting good reviews and that they should keep this up. A lunch special here was only $6.99 before tax. Their menu is posted on the wall and is complete with pictures of their items so that there's no guessing as to what everything looks like. Portions are sizable, and they were kind enough to provide a large clump of white rice, a LOT of chicken, some coleslaw, and two gyozas (fried dumplings). While everything tasted okay and I was happy with how much I was getting considering the price, I'm somewhat disappointed with the coleslaw that they gave me. It was too strong in flavor and I would have preferred a normal salad instead. They might have also gone slightly overboard with the sauce on the chicken, but when I'm dealing with extremely modest restaurants that can barely cram five tables into such a small space, I'm not going to be too picky. read more

I was really not impressed and am pretty surprised at all of the positive reviews for this establishment. It's not awful, but what I have here is a plate of rice, grilled chicken, and weird coleslaw. There's basically no sauce on it and they give you the tiniest little cup of the thinnest teriyaki sauce imaginable to dump on the meal. Nasai over on 85th is way more my style. Lots of sauce, thicker and generously applied to the dish...that's how I like my teriyaki sauce. I guess different people like different stuff, because this was about as bland as it gets. First time I ordered as an obligation since "everyone was having it" and fell in love with it! Six months in and I have never ever been disappointed. We always order the lunch special which gives you 2 dumplings, coleslaw, huge (as per my tummy) portions of rice and chicken - this generally lasts me 2 days!!! Their seasoning is perfect and the chicken is cooked just for the right amount of time! I hate coleslaw in general, but love their version of it.
