Incompetent structure on Mother's Day- We had an 8:15pm reservation for Mother's Day at Tostadas Prime in San Jose for 4 of us, including one pregnant guest. We arrived right on time and were told multiple times we'd have to wait. We weren't seated until 9:10pm -- almost an hour later. I don't understand the point of taking reservations if you're going to force a pregnant woman to stand around for an hour anyway. Once seated, our server greeted us once and then vanished. We had to flag down staff just to place an order. For a restaurant at this price point, that's unacceptable. When the food finally came, the quality was shocking given what we paid: * Fire Salmon Sushi Roll - $27: Found a hair in it. * $60 NY Steak + $30 "Prime" upgrade: Paid extra for it to be "prime" with mashed potatoes, asparagus, and a reduction poured over. Ordered medium, came out overcooked and tough. At $90 total, that should've been perfect. * Burger - $24: The patty was shockingly small -- literally smaller than the tomato and lettuce on it. * Calamari - $20: Rubbery, clearly overcooked, with a pile of loose batter at the bottom of the plate. * Guacamole: Completely bland, no flavor. The only redeeming part was the drinks. The Old Fashioned and cocktails were well-made. To the manager's credit, he was extremely professional. He comped all the problem items from our check and sent over complimentary shots to apologize for the 55-minute wait. I appreciate the gesture and it was clear he cared about making it right. Even after the comped items, we still paid $150 for 3 drinks, 2 appetizers, and a half-eaten steak pasta. That's outrageous for what we actually got. Free shots and comped food don't excuse hair in sushi, a $90 steak cooked wrong, and service that abandons your table. The structure of the restaurant feels incompetent -- there's no system for handling reservations, no communication, and no quality control in the kitchen. Being busy is one thing. Making a reserved table of 4, including a pregnant guest, wait an hour on Mother's Day, then failing on food and service, is another. For what Tostadas Prime charges, the food and service need to match the bill. Tonight, they didn't come close. I won't be back. read more

Honestly for it being Mother's Day you would expect a good structure. I'm honestly truly disappointed in the management. The fact that the hostess was left by himself in the front telling people they had to wait 30-50 minutes past their reservation time is absurd. Tried to speak with the manager several times and he completely walked past us several times. Beto, the manager needs to work on customer service and structure. I ordered salmon grill the taste is horrible. Salmon dish is salty. And vegetables roasted in tons of oil. Since i have weak stomach cannot hold too much oil food. I request to change. Review for July 19 (Sorry I'm late) Came here with a bunch of my colleagues and this place did not disappoint! The fire dancer and bottle service made everything so fun. I forgot to take a picture, but I got the 14oz Outside Skirt and it was very flavorful and tender. I was surprised when I saw sushi on the menu so I have to try that for another day. The food came out in a timely manner for our big party and I can speak for all of us that we had a good time at Tostadas Prime. The ambiance was pretty chill with loud music, it felt just like being at a night club, but with better food. As for drinks, I recommend their Guava-Yaba-Doo and Pasion Traicionera! Love this place! A group of us met for lunch today and want to try a new place other than the usual restaurant we always go to. Tostadas Prime gave us exactly what we looked for. All the food was very tasty. Love the steak and egg, oysters were very fresh, try the Mexican coffee for the first time and really enjoyed it. The service was superb. We had a great time there. Came here randomly on a Friday evening- we were able to find a table in the bar section fortunately. Would recommend making reservations for the weekend as they were fully booked for normal tables. Anyways, the bartender was great, food was fantastic, I am looking forward to coming back and trying other dishes. We had: aguachile (nice spice, large portion, large shrimp, great flavor), birria tacos (got 3 of them, fantastic flavor, packed with yummy birria- pretty filling portion), ahi tostadas (fresh, piled high, yummy mild flavor), and fish tacos (you get one per order, pretty large, great flavor). We don't really have too many restaurants like this in the South Bay. It feels like a nightclub: people are dressed like they're going to a club, the music is loud, they have fire dancers on some nights. They go all out with the birthday celebration. This is a great spot to celebrate a birthday or maybe bachelorette party. This could be an alternative if you don't really want to hit the club. I got the tomahawk steak, Mac & cheese and broccolini. The steak is big enough to share with 2 or 3 and the quality was high. The Mac and cheese was thick and tasted great although a bit salty. I got the blue drink with a picture of Bad Bunny on it and it was good. The service was really slow. Even the drinks took a long time to come out. Don't come here expecting Mexican restaurant prices. Tried out this restaurant. The host was very friendly and the ambiance of the restaurant is very fun and trendy. Our waiter was super informative and helpful. We tried the steak bites for appetizer, they were so good. I ordered the ceviche and that was so good, super citrus flavor. My boyfriend ordered the tamarind pork chop, it was over cooked which made it tough. The mashed potatoes were not salted but tasted well with the tamarind sauce from the pork chop. Would we go back? We were headed to a concert at the Shoreline amphitheater and I've wanted to check this place out so we made a special stop. I made reservations for 5:30 and it wasn't that busy which was great for us. The aesthetics of the place is beautiful. As you walk in you'll see the host at the podium, the bar to the left and the restaurant to the right. They have amazing murals along the walls of popular artists including Selena, Vicente Fernandez and Canelo. Our server was very welcoming and informative of the menu since this was our first time. He was willing to answer any questions and offered recommendations on drinks. I've been seeing the Pasión Traicionera get high reviews so I went for it. The presentation and the taste was amazing. He warned me to wait a little before sipping on the straw because it is metal and it does get hot with the flaming lemon. The Mexican old fashion came in a smoke box, a cool presentation as well. He brought out some tostadas with bean dip and salsa. The salsa had a creamy and different taste to it with a bit of heat which I enjoyed. The beans are pretty good too. I ordered calamari as an appetizer and it was really good. It's a nice big portion! For dinner, I ordered the bone marrow taco which was amazing. You scrape out the marrow from the bone to top off the meat. It adds a distinct flavor that you must try. Our server recommended to add guacamole and that made a huge difference. It added another layer of flavor. So goooood! The fish taco was a fillet and it was tasty with all the layers on top. The same for the octopus! I must say, the presentation satisfied my eyes and the taste satisfied my tummy! It's definitely a food experience. The server made the experience that much better. While I'm sure the owners would argue that they're not a budget restaurant--and that's fair--the issue is that the ingredients they use are nothing special. You could buy the same items at Safeway, Cardenas, or Mi Pueblo and cook the meal yourself for half the price. That makes the whole place feel more like a cash grab than a premium dining experience. One of the best things about this place is the space. It's a beautiful modern fun space with lots of cozy booths. I had delayed coming here since we had read reviews that it was super loud, and it's true- it's not even the crowd/acoustics. They play their music deafeningly loud- I felt like I was at a day club. I was surprised to see it was located in a movie theater plaza since everyone raved about it being kinda upscale so the location didn't go with that type of vibe. Anyhow! We ordered: Bone Marrow 2/10: don't recommend, super greasy, poor flavor and if you had MUA's bone marrow this one will def disappoint. Calamari 8/10: best appetizer here! This review is solely based on their Event Planning. Plain and simple, there is none. After numerous emails going back and forth, never getting my questions answered, receiving emails without attachments, having to follow up, and follow up and follow up, because there was no responses, I mean, really?? And then suddenly, over a month later and I finally get a menu one day before my event that I had to create. Left 21 guests hanging, so I found another restaurant and within hours had a reservation, seating arrangements and a menu. Now that's what I call event planning. I was also told about an "experience" that I no longer qualified for because my headcount went down. Well that was due to your delay in responding and other plans were made. I was never told what that was, either. Maybe I would have invited more people! Why did I not move on sooner? Because there were 21 of us super excited to go! I have been to other Tostadas and have had great experiences there and will continue to go. Hopefully Prime will bring on a real event planner. Heck hire me. Stopped in for lunch the other day, and I was definitely feeling under-dressed. This is a beautiful restaurant, very classy inside. Crystal chandeliers, gorgeous decor, and a beautiful bar area. But my main focus was on the food. I was craving seafood and I ordered the seafood pasta. My husband got the chile quiles. First off the plating was beautiful. So nicely presented. There was a very good amount of seafood on the plate, including octopus which I love. The pasta itself coupled with a Spanish style green sauce was absolutely delicious! I loved every bite!!
