I've been here several times and have tried a variety of dishes, and everything has been consistently delicious. My personal favorites are the fried quesadillas and the carne asada nachos--they're absolutely amazing and the main reason I keep coming back. Definitely a great spot if you're craving authentic Mexican food!
Is this San Jose's best kept secret for Mexican food happy hour?? We recently found out they started a happy hour, and it's honestly hard to beat. I don't know where else you can find $2 tacos anymore--and that even includes birria. The birria tacos don't come with consommé, but honestly, they're packed with so much meat in every bite that you don't even miss it. They also have $3 volcanes (kind of like a tostada), which were super tasty, and the $6 margaritas were strong in the best way. Plus, the chips tasted fresh, which always makes a difference. On top of the food, the customer service was amazing--friendly, welcoming, and just overall a great vibe, good music. Street parking was easy to find on a weekday too.
Alma was our waitress again and she remembered us from last week. She is super friendly and very accommodating. We came back to Happy Hour. This time I tried the tacos for $2. Birria & pastor. Very delicious for both. My husband tried the Pambazo and Volcan and both were very tasty as well. We tried different margaritas this time. Pineapple and Mango. Both were super delicious. Will definitely coming back to try more.
My bf ordering an individual-sized trompo of al pastor reminds me of those "his greed sickens me" cat memes lol. A visually-impressive tower of marinated pork, there was enough to make upwards of 10 tacos. We started with buttery-smooth guacamole & whole tostadas (I prefer tortilla chips), a refreshing michelada (although I didn't care for the shrimp on the rim), & a sweet mangonada that went down easy. Flavor-packed chicken tinga sopes. The masa shells seemed to be hand-made & were substantial enough to hold the generous amount of toppings. The A/C was blowing uncomfortably strong inside so we took a sidewalk table & enjoyed the view of lowriders cruising on a warm evening.
Food 5/5: Aquachilie was perfect, very spicy just her way I like. The shrimp was fresher, perfect order with some HH drinks! Margaritas were good as well. Service 5/5: Staff was great, very quick and attentive. Nice crew. Ambiance 4/5: Great decor, bar was small but great for a solo pick me up. Plenty of seating, parking is a but limited.
Came in on a Tuesday afternoon for a little lunch, they were not that busy, so we got a table for 3 right away. 1st, the parking lot is in the rear of the restaurant and is shared with a few other businesses, so it is very limited. Maybe about 5 to 6 spots. There are lots off meter parking on the streets around the restaurant. Queso Fundido with Longanizo and the melted cheese was delicious, one of my favorites. Street Corn with Mexican Mayo, queso cotijo and lime was very tasty. Carne En Su Jugo with Steak simmered in tomatillo sauce, bacon, pinto beans serve with onion, cilantro, radishes and a jalapeno and 3 mini Cheese quesadillas was very good with lots of flavor. But it is different to what I'm used to. This one, the broth is a lot thicker like chile verde. Chilaquiles Verde with Scramble Eggs and Pork Chorizo was a hit with lots of flavor. The service here is great, they kept checking on us to make sure everything was good and kept our water glasses full.
It is RARE that the standard level of spice (heat) at a restaurant is spicy enough to make my tongue tingle. I was impressed by this restaurant and how it met my heat baseline AND was delicious! There weren't many vegan options on the menu but I'm sure more items could be customized. The staff was very friendly and the vibe was definitely that of a poppin lunch spot but also a turn up joint for the evening.
Going in we were seated right away. Service was great, multiple servers would check in on us. Orange and Pineapple mimosa was great. We ordered, Tres Leches French toast and Mexican Eggs Benedict, it was with sourdough toast and they added avocado and tomato. Since it's the holidays they also had The Grinch playing in the background so that was cute.
We came for my friends graduation during the week and originally had made a reservation for 5 people. We had extra friends join us and we came in letting them know and they were able to accommodate us with not problem! The food was great, I got a molcajete de carnes and it was delicious! They recently remodeled the place and it looks great! They never dissapoint!
Food: 5 Food portion: 5 Ambiance: 5 Service (Andrew): 5 Came here today with co-workers. This was my first time back at this location since they re-opened. The location is bright and clean. We were greeted by Andrew who ended up being our server. He is was so nice, attentive and was professional. We ordered the following: My co-worker wanted Breakfast so I can't remember what she ordered - it looked like an omelet. She said it was good. My other co-worker ordered a Breakfast burrito and he said it was good. I ordered the Pacific Catch Tostadas. It was a recommendation from Andrew since I am limiting my meat intake..it was good nice portion, the orange sauce was a little spicy, but it was good. I will definitely come back and I hope I get Andrew as our server.
Let's start with the vibe. Very cute restaurant, we got there around 4pm and it was empty. My friend & I were sat right away. Service was great with great music to dance to while we ate. If you're not dancing while you eat, is the food really good? We began with the guac & salsa from the HH menu for $8. With it you get 4 large crisp tortillas. And we both ordered the enchiladas for our entrees. You can get it with red or green sauce, beware the green has a nice kick to it. Everything was delicious!
Sooooo I have stupid food, allergies, and sadly I'm allergic to monosodium glutamate/MSG. Our server had no idea what spices were in the Pacific catch tostada so he went to ask the other chefs in the back. Sadly, they weren't too sure since the prep work was done ahead of time, but the executive chef, was in the restaurant, but not working. So my server, Roberto O., was able to ask him!! The executive chef came up to me at the table as our server introduced who he was since he was wearing his normal street clothes. The Chef offered to make me another version of the Pacific catch tostada, so it would not have any sauce or monosodium glutamate in the sauce and seasoning. He was so sweet to go the extra mile in assisting me with my annoying food allergies!! When the plate came out, I was astonished at how huge the freaking tostadas were!!! They had two tortilla attached to them, and as the first one broke it perfectly, caught all the fish and toppings underneath the second one! Lol I was so stuffed and full. I'm surprised I was able to finish my drink!! I will definitely come back to this location again and get something else or try another dish since the executive chef knows exactly what seasoning is put into everything! The cocktail was delicious as well, fully balanced and refreshing!

Everything about this place was so freakin' good!! From the mimosas, to the skillets, TO THE TRES LECHES FRENCH TOAST!! So we came here for my bestie's birthday and I'm so glad we chose this place!! Service was really good, no complaints. I got the carnitas skillet, but I don't know what my friends got Lol.. The carnitas skillet was sooo good and the carnitas itself was super tender! We all shared the tres leches french toast (y'all it was so damn good lol) and we got the guava mimosa pitcher. The tres leches french toast was probably one of the best french toasts I've ever had and I love french toast so that's a big statement!! Amazing place to come and eat and enjoy drinks with friends and family. This is our 4th time coming here and great food and awesome service! To be honest we had Robert as our server more then once and he made us want to come back!!! So we did! He is an amazing server, ask for him for sure!! Its been 3-4 times I come here and the food is always on point. I've tried all their Birria options (burger/tacos) and the meat is soo tender. Highly recommend if you are in the area. Drinks are also really good. I would recommend to check in on yelp since it does get busy on weekends read more

The birria tacos are to die for. Spicy salsas, but very delicious. The esquite is a cup of warm corn with cheese and and Mayo and tajin / it's a Very Mexican treat. read more

Came in today around noon, food was very good and drinks to par. Would give it 5 star but the only thing that got my attention was a forced 18% tip for a party of 3. My wife my 3 year old son and I. We ordered 173 dollars of food and drinks and had to pay almost 40 in tip for okay service. I've heard of that for larger parties but never small parties. Only thing that would make me think twice about coming back. Just because I ordered expensive dishes doesn't entitle me to pay a huge tip for the same service I would have gotten for cheaper dishes. read more

We normally don't go out for brunch as the options are pretty limited in ESSJ, so since hearing about this place, we decided to check it out as we were in the area. I'd recommend adding yourself to the Yelp waitlist before you trek over because it can get pretty packed here. I can't speak too much about the parking as we walked over from where I was charging my car, but there's some street parking in the front and (maybe illegal) plentiful parking in the Grocery Outlet lot. We got seated a couple minutes after we checked in. It was really packed on Saturday at noon so definitely suggest the waitlist. We ordered within 5 min being seated, and they brought out water right after. +1 for using paper straws but highly unnecessary. Food came out quick. Portions were good. Tasted really good. Great idea on the sour baguette for the egg Benedict. I'm not a fan of potatoes, so I was happy that they offered rice as an option. Prices are reasonable, too. All in all, would come back here again! read more

I gave it the full 5 because I feel it was during the week and there was not enough employees so it took long to get their attention, and the food and drinks were amazing I got the mixed molkajete, shrimp nachos, tostadas a la mexicana and the tostadas de tinga (spicy chicken) for drinks the mini shots and the cáuselas soo yummy. There's only street parking around there and there is a store but they will tow if parking there for any other use besides store. Music was great and ac was going strong. A little too strong but I'm sure on a hot day is amazing. read more

I had a great time when I went out with my friends to this place. Our waiter was Ramon-- I don't know if he still works there-- but he was super kind to us. Paying so much attention to our table. I had tacos which were so delicious. We had $5 shots which were perfect for our event. I will be definitely coming back. read more

Brunch was delicious! We both ordered the tostada breakfast but mine was without pork. It came quickly, the flavors were excellent, and the staff was attentive. It got busy as we ate (since we were the first people in the restaurant). Very popular weekend brunch spot. They boozy drinks looked awesome too. Ambiance is elevated casual. Worth the wait. Tried this place out for a 10am brunch, luckily I was able to join the wait list before arriving because this place was packed. Had to wait a little longer than expected but it was worth it. Our food was great and the service was good. Will definitely go back to try some of their other dishes. read more

Clean, modern restaurant. When I came it was pretty empty 3 pm on a Thursday. Had to do meter parking Robert o was our server he was fantastic! Funny and great service! Hard to find nowadays. The food was really good! Big portion and I got some nice picture out of it! The pacific catch tostadas 5/5 Good portions of crab! And it was huge! Got me full with the first one! Chilliquiles 5/5 My bf enjoyed it and ate everything! Esquites 5/5 Came with lots of tostadas Was warm for long time! Truffle fries 5/5 Also amazing ! Everything about all the dishes they do is just out of this world, I love the taste and the quality of their food, they do not cut corners & very consistent with what comes out of the kitchen specially for take out stuff, keep it up guys, love what you guys are doing. read more

Really fun place to hang out with friends, it's also close to SJSU-- easily walkable. I think the drinks are awesome, and the service was great! This is elevated Mexican food, which was new to me. The food was delicious, but a bit expensive. But, I would love to come back and try the brunch! read more

The first time we came here the service was ok. Our server must have been in training because she wasn't the best and you can tell she didn't know what she was doing. But the food and micheladas were really good so we came back! The second time, service was better but the server had a very blah attitude. She wasn't bad but she wasn't great either. The food was still good and the drinks were on point. The wait was a lot longer this time but it was easy to add ourselves to the waitlist on Yelp. 3rd time is the charm!! We had a really great server named Maggie. She new the menu extremely well and had some great recommendations. Very personable and attentive, by far the best server we've had here. So I figured it was time to leave a review! My cousins has the the super micheladas and they came out great. We also tried the tequila shots & they were as look as they look! If I could give this place ten stars just for Robert O. alone I would. If you stop here to grab a bite and get him to help you out it is a real treat. He is honestly one of the best servers I have had in a long time. My girlfriend and are in San Jose for a work trip and wanted to grab some food and cute drinks on our last night here. We found Tostadas on Yelp and were immediately sold with the drinks they had by the photos alone. Robert was seriously my favorite part of our whole experience though, not to mention the food was amazing! I ordered a drink that intrigued me on the menu called "Mangoneadita", when I ordered it he immediately was against it. I loved his honesty, I still got it anyway lol. He warned me it tasted like candy (not in the best way) and he was right. I'm sure some would like it, but not my taste. I think he read my face because he took it away and said he was going to bring me something better...and he did! He brought me their blackberry sangria, which was perfect for me. He also frequently stopped by our table to chat and check in. He was so fun and had a lot of good recommendations when it came to the menu. Definitely check this place out if you get a chance, we got to meet the owner as well who said they are working on serving a full bar menu soon along with opening another location! read more
This place reminds me of Breakfast Club because how busy and crowded it is. The waitlist is also the same. Always crazy long, but the live waitlist on Yelp is pretty helpful. Also the noise level is exactly like Breakfast Club. It's really hard to hear the person you're with. It's crazy. If you're trying to catch up with someone, this is NOT the place you want to be at. It saddens me to say this, but in my opinion this place is alright overall. I think it's all hype, but that's just me. The drinks and food were okay. I got the Pacific Catch Tostadas. It wasn't bad. I like that it tasted fresh, but something was missing for me. The portions is a little small in my opinion. If they added another tostada, I would have been more content. I don't think the meal was worth the price that I got it for. I forgot the name of the mango alcoholic beverage me and my friend got, but it was okay. I dislike tasting artificial flavoring. If it didn't have that taste, I would have given the drink a better rating. The only really positive thing I have to say is that our server was nice and friendly. She always checked on us, which was nice! Anyway, maybe I'll give this place another shot one day. For now, I'm going to take a pass. read more

Heard great things about the food here so I thought I'd give it a try. Luckily, I looked it up on a yelp while I was headed there because they have a waitlist available (score!). I got there, checked in, and waited. With the amount of people waiting outside when I got there I was quite thankful for that waitlist! We didn't wait long for our party to be seated. Everything on the menu sounded delicious! My party and I decided to do "family style" and picked four different dishes for us to share. 1) Carne Asada tacos: amazing!! The aioli they put on those tacos is magical! I couldn't get enough! 2) Tres leches French toast: At first, not gonna lie, I was disappointed. I took a bite and had to struggle to find the leche. I pushed it aside for a little but then came back to it. The leche had finally soaked through the toast and it tasted aaaammmaaaazing! I could *not* stop eating it! 3) Mexican Dip: Delicious. By far one of the best birria I've ever tasted! The "dip" was very well seasoned! We got the truffle fries and those were just as good! Especially when dipped in the broth. 4) Carne asada quesadilla: It was good. Nothing mind blowing but still good. Now for the drinks. This is where they lost that one star with me. We ordered the 4 shooters and the cucumber cooler. The shooters were so good and the presentation was cool!! I had 2 of the 4 shooters to myself, back to back, and could've kept going (but I had to be nice and share). Even though they tasted delicious, the alcohol they use, did nothing. I was disappointed I didn't even get a slight buzz from 2 shooters. Someone else in my party ordered two cucumber coolers and same thing. They tasted delicious but no slight buzz or anything. Also, the turn around time from the bar was extremely slow. I was quite disappointed by that. I definitely recommend this place and I plan on coming back! read more

This place is great! The environment is super fun and friendly. The servers are very funny and definitely create good conversation. It's definitely related to the breakfast place called Toast Cafe & Grill which is also really good. When you walk in you're greeted in the best manner. We were seated right away even though we were waiting for four more people. We were consistently checked up on as well. My server recommended me the sangria and it was super delicious. But I was a bit hungry and so I decided to order some of their famous tostadas to see what the hype was about. I will say they were my least favorite part of this place. I had the Pacific Catch tostada's which has shrimp & crab, tomatoes, avocado and onions. It's supposed to kind of be like ceviche. It honestly just tasted like sushi on a tostada. It was just too much fish that it took away the taste of it all. I definitely would not recommend it if you don't like a lot of fish. Overall the place is great and I'm sure there's plenty of other good food options to try. I will definitely be coming back! read more

Is this restaurant still in business? The website says this location is now an Astroid Burger. But there are recent reviews on the same dates saying this is Tostadas. But this location of Tostadas isn't listed on the Tostada's website.
The Astroid Burger is next door. Tostadas is still open.
Do they have café de olla?
Not sure sorry, I know they offer alcohol fueled coffee creations. Very Good!!!
How's the parking around 3pm?
Every day is different. Usually from 3-4 is downtime so you won’t have an issue with parking during the week but weekends we can’t really say.
Can we make reservations? How come the phone is disconnected?
For parties above 6 they take soft reservations but otherwise it's come and wait.
Are dogs allowed on the patio or is this place lacking a heart?
Dogs are okay on our patio
Do you guys have any gluten-free options?
They do, my GF friend was able to find many options as they use corn tortillas etc
What are the hours and do they allow dine in now?
Not quite sure on hours either, we usually go for brunch. So good!! But I would suggest calling & making a reservation, they get busy! :) Yes- on the dine in.

Do you have happy hour and/or daily specials?
When I visited on June 28, 2021, they did not offer any happy hours or daily specials. However, the servers do make great recommendations.
Kid friendly? High chairs?
Yes good kid options to eat and I saw couple high chairs
Are the chilaquiles spicy?
My friend had their chilaquiles with salsa verde and she said it was spicy
