I recently moved to Dublin and started looking around for an optometrist - BUT failed big time to find someone I could connect with. So, I decided to make a trip back to San Jose to see Dr Hua. He takes the time to explain things and has tailored his business to suit the needs of the people in this area in terms of common eye conditions and the best treatments for them. We found Dr. Randy through the Living Social discount. I called and got an appointment for my son the following day. He had the exam, and was fitted for his new glasses. The doctor was great: thorough, helpful, a nice guy. His office and exam room are well laid out and he has a nice assortment of frames to choose from. When my husband and I need our next exam we will be calling Dr. Randy. One other nice touch: he told my son that if his frames get damaged, he can replace them at cost. Debbie L. read more

I decided to give i-Care Optometry a try based on the numerous positive reviews here, and I am so glad I did! Erica, the office manager, represents the front office really well-- She's pleasant, professional and really helpful. I don't have vision insurance, so Erica consulted with Dr. Hua and presented me with a couple of workable options, which I very much appreciated. I saw Dr. Hua the day after I made my initial call, and exceeded my expectations; he is truly exceptional. He's personable and patient, taking the time to explain what he is doing/testing for during the different stages of the exam. I got a careful and thorough assessment-- in fact, I don't remember ever having had such a comprehensive exam before. Dr. Hua went above and beyond by performing some additional assessments to be sure my vision needs were addressed. . . . A little background: I had recently gone to an optometrist within a big-box retailer and had received two (ultimately wrong) prescriptions. The first one had been copied incorrectly from my chart, a problem I discovered only after it had been filled. The updated prescription had other errors (yes, more than one error). Dr. Hua reviewed that confusing mess of conflicting prescriptions after he finished my exam, and then he did some correction comparisons of the prescriptions I had brought in with the correction that his exam indicated I needed. Dr. Hua's exam results were spot on.....and I noticed an immediate improvement in my vision with the (finally!) correct power of contact lenses. I am grateful to have found someone who is motivated to get it right and made sure of that before I left the office. I broke my glasses and I NEEDED them fixed ASAP. I found this place on my phone and drove over really quick. I was expecting to pay $10-15 bucks to have the screw replaced. However... The staff here was super friendly and took my glasses right away, and fixed them FREE of charge. I was really blow away at how nice they were, especially because I'm not their patient. My check-up and the service was great up until opting for the CRT vision correction lenses. All of the information was presented quickly and leaving out pertinent information such as the need to purchase new corrective lenses every 3 years or even yearly. I trusted that I was obtaining all of the needed information and proceeded with my purchase. Once home, I was uneasy after reading additional information about CRT lenses and phoned Dr. Randy asking to cancel. I had a lot of follow up questions. It had only been about 2 hours therefore I expected that some consideration would be made regarding my request. The staff was professional and supportive of my call but the attendant needed to check with Dr. Randy who was with another patient. I was called back 5 hours later to be told that it was too late. My expectation as a customer was that Dr. Randy would return my call. He had been very personable in the office yet had his attendant return my call. I expect more from my doctors, keep in mind, it isn't like I'm calling a large chain. I was disappointed and reached out to another optometrist with my questions. I made a $1,325 purchase and I believe that should have warranted a call from my optometrist to ensure that I felt completely at ease with my purchase. I can not recommend this optometrist. My wife visited i-Care about 6 months ago to be fitted for contact lenses. Although the service was good, the contacts didn't work out, and they were returned. We had not heard from i-Care since then, although apparantly there was a $100 balance left. A couple of weeks ago, before a bill had been sent to us, the account was turned over to a collection agency who have been making harassing calls, despite our having gone into i-Care as soon as we bacame aware of this and paying off the balance. Although Dr. Hua seems to be good, the office is not run well, and this has resulted in a huge problem for us. read more

I like the personal touch of this place. Going into most other retail eye outlets, you have to get signed in, wait a bit, work through an assistant, then see the doc at the very end. Dr. Randy gives everyone an extra personal touch taking you from your check-in through the exam, fitting, and checkout. So the entire time, I get to ask the doc my questions directly. No need to leave a message at reception, wait for them to talk to him, and then talk back to me. Personal attention is what I get - and friendly service. I don't like doctors but this guy cracks me up. I know I'm getting only the good stuff here. Every time I go, I know he is adding a lot of extras onto my lenses like any doctor would, but I don't feel like I'm being scammed into doing it. I am not getting a sales pitch here, I am getting a change in my lifestyle. read more

I-Care Optometry is definitely the place to go to get quality frames and personalized attention from a doctor who genuinely cares about his patients & customers. Dr. Randy Hua was friendly and helpful when helping me pick out my frames. I was a bit picky and asked for only purple frames and without hesitation, Dr. Randy gathered his purple collection and helped me try them on. He was very sincere and honest when I asked for his opinion on the size and look of each frame, which I appreciated very much. It was like I was out shopping with my best friend who'd give me the brutal honest truth and not let me walk out wearing anything hideous. :) I never felt pressured into buying any particular brands nor did it feel like he had to make the sale for profits. His priority was to make sure I was satisfied with my selection. Also, when I ordered my glasses,I received them within a few days. It was really fast service. Additionally, during my exam, he took the time to explain the equipment and reasons for certain tests. Dr. Randy believes in preventative measures and teaches his patients how to be healthy and take good care of their eyes. Overall, my experience was very positive. Sometimes all it takes in this world is to be genuine and kind because a friendly smile really goes a long ways in customer service. Thanks again Dr. Randy and staff at I-Care Optometry. It is very strange to read the complaints below. I had a very different experience, a very good experience, with the Doc and his assistant. I was quite impressed when Randy insisted he conduct a very thorough comprehensive eye exam, COMPLIMENTARY!! I do understand lab work can be problematic, but I wouldn't blame the optometrist for a lab's shoddy work. I've had glasses made at two other businesses; both times we had to send them back to rework them. In fact the lab Randy used did not follow his instructions either. Unfortunately I had the prescription longer than two months before I truly realized it, so I didn't try to get them fixed. They're sunglasses, it was winter; they'll be okay most of the time. It seems the labs just do not pay attention to, or care about, details. Lab work incompetence notwithstanding, I'll pay for Randy's i-Care Optometry service again, Soon Too. I bought a Living Social coupon for this business, which I gave as a gift to someone who works in our office. I made the appointment and drove this person to iCare Optometry, as she does not speak English. Dr. Hua was so patient with her, speaking in Spanish whenever possible; and explaining to me what the issues about her eyesight were, so I can interpret them. Because there were problems that Dr. Hua found during the examination; he kindly asked us wait after our allotted 1 hour appointment, so he can do further tests. His schedule (on a Saturday), was fully booked, yet he managed to squeeze in working with us in between appointments, even forgoing his own lunch. I was very impressed at his generosity and humanitarian attitude when he did additional tests for her. As Chuck said, Dr Hua gave us his full personal attention and he was very patient, informative and not arrogant at all, when he was explaining the examination results to me. While waiting after our appointment for the additional (unexpected) tests, I observed how he dealt with his customers. I felt that he had the patient's welfare in mind, and that he was not out to just make money. I don't know what the other reviewer thought when she says the frames are expensive. Unless you go to Costco, and spend the $150 for the membership, you can't find frames for less than a $100 nowadays. As for me, I have already recommended Dr Hua to my 2 female friends, and I am sure they will have the same personal treatment we got. read more

My daughter has been going to Dr. Hua's office for a few years now. She's 14, and wanted contacts a few years ago. I was very hesitant to let her, as I was worried about her keeping them clean, and being able to get them in and out. Dr. Hua spent a lot of time with her on the first day, making sure she could get her contacts in and out with ease, and made sure she knew how to care for them. My daugher is pretty skiddish with this sort of stuff so I really didn't think she was going to be able to handle contacts, but Dr. Hua taught her well. We have had a few incidents over the years with her not taking proper care of her contacts, and it's always been very easy for us to get an appointment (same-day) for an eye check. Dr. Hua is great with kids and teens, and explains things in a way that they understand. As far as a few other reviews where people state that they have limited frames, I would imagine you can take your written prescription to any other location (Walmart, Costco, or online) and fill get your glasses that way. They have "starter contacts" that they can give you to tide you over until your order arrives (only takes about 3 days). We are loyal patients/customers with i-Care. read more

I have been going to Dr. Hua, I-Care Optometry, for almost a year and in my opinion he is one of the best optometrists around. At my advanced age I have been to several and he is the best one by far. Extremely knowledgeable, which goes beyond just being an optometrist. He's more like an optholmoiagist with his background and training. I have been more than satisfied. He found something in one of my eyes that my regular eye doctor did not find. He also made me glasses for night driving which are very helpful. I recommend him highly. read more

Doctor is nice , but office staff is terrible. Very unprofessional and unorganized! Husband purchased two pair of glasses a month ago. One pair was filed on our insurance plan VSP. We've had VSP and never had any problems in the past. They said it would take about 10 days. No one ever called us, so I called. The girl put me on hold for a long time, then said she would have to call the lab and would call me right back. She never called me back, so I called back right before closing and a different girl said they were in. One pair was not correct and had to be returned . Two weeks passed and I called to check on them and was told , they were very busy and would call me back. Ok, no problem. So I waited 4 more days. Called back again, to be told again how busy they are. The glasses are not in because VSP has defective product and are behind in their orders. They don't know when they will be in! Told her I wanted a refund, she said she could not do that. Ok, so now we have paid over $500 for two pair of LINED Bifocals and actually only have one pair. The only other thing I know to do is dispute our credit card charge. We have received a nice letter from the doctor and his staff. We really appreciate the response. read more

I was looking for a new optometrist, and decided to try here because of the reviews. Once I arrived I was greeted with a wonderful receptionist and amazing owner Dr. Hua, whom where very kind and attentive. The office space is clean nice modern even with a TV for children. In trying to figure out my insurance we realized they did not except my insurance so I either had to pay out-of-pocket or sadly find another optometrist. I was embarrassed and disappointed but felt it's best if I find another doctor as I was not in an urgent situation and preferred to have insurance help with cost. Dr. Hua was so understanding & kind. I originated the appointment because I had a little bit of itchy eyes and did not know why, and he explained to me it was probably allergies and gave me some sample drops to help until I found a new doctor. So, let me start from the top. I paid for a livingsocial deal. It was $15 for $275 worth of service from this shaddy eye doc? I look up his website to see what I get for $275. I see his "exam" costs $195. The deal called for an exam plus glasses so I'm thinking cool... how much can the glasses be? I have $80 worth of coupon left right?.. This is where things turn. When I get there immediately I'm shown cases of random glasses. I get the ole "Oh these are what the livingsocial peeps 'usually' get" from the office girl. She doesn't have a clue and I'm automatically worried. I finally get my eyes checked and dude tells me I'm stressed out and probably dying from cholesterol. Whatever, I'm there to get glasses not to get felt up, this is where the awkward arm touch happens. Next thing I know I'm whisked off to the lobby to sit next to a dirty fish tank. In the next 45 minutes me and the blue fish bonded while I had to listen to the douche bag doctor? brag about the difference in his degree compared to something lesser? ugh..(spare me) to his assistant. I finally get re greeted and we start talking about what I needed. I enquired about the "possibility" of transition lenses and an ANSI stamp. Next thing I know I'm looking at safety glasses on a computer. I mean It's really hard to shop that way, I get fed up and say ok "that one". I'm thinking cool, I'll be able to see again and this guy is going to help me." That'll be $313". Gulp. I start to haggle wondering what the hell did I just sign up for? I was not expecting free by any means but an eye exam and glasses for get this..$313 plus the coupon rate of $275? I go home and look at this guys web site again to make sure I didn't see something weird. Nope, This prick has a "promotional" price list that shows the $195 exam. He leaves out the cost of the prescription ($99) and oh the transitions lenses would be another $150 and get this.. the glasses themselves would be another $200. So add that up and it equals a bait and switch tactic. Not once was I told what the cost of the transition lenses option would cost, I found that out when I saw the receipt. No where on any of this guys website says anything about the hidden cost of the prescription itself. Through e-mails he's been proud to challenge me to find any eye doc that discloses their prices. Listen dummy I'm on to you, print them all or don't print any. Don't be fooled by this scam artist. read more

I purchased my glasses many months ago and the glasses are still holding up strong (unlike my last pair that I purchased from a large competitor). Dr. Hua is extremely detailed in his exams and takes all the time you need. We've never felt rushed like other docs. He's been seeing my 2 kids and myself for the past 2 years. I came here for an eye/contact exam after seeing all the great yelp reviews and was extremely pleased with my appointment. I was promptly greeted, everything went smoothly as far as the exam and insurance coverage/payment. Dr. Hua was very informative about different options as far as contacts and glasses and answered all my questions from what was causing redness in my eyes to what kind of eyedrops to use. We went there with our 2 kids and Randy immediately closed the front door so our toddler will not run out into the street. He was very nice and engaging, and he talked to our son about the fish tank that he has in his shop. Randy was very thorough during the eye exam and he answered all our questions and we left the place feeling more educated! I took a star away because the frames and sunglasses are a little limited. They do carry brands like nike, ck, Bebe, ferragamo but if you are really picky you could still find their selection quite limited. My wife was still able to pick out a frame but she isn't picky. I had to skip the sunglasses because I couldn't find what I want. Hopefully they expand their selection before our next visit! read more

I visited today for the first time Dr.Hua and his staff... I've had eye examination done (my eye sight is deteriorating and I had to see a doctor ). Since I don't have any serious eye illness and don't need any medication nor contact lenses, it's hard for me to assess Dr. Hua's knowledge and expertise but one thing that I can you for sure; HE is the nicest person I've ever met in my life ( among the doctors )... he's soooo down to earth, funny and caring person... i felt like I could spend hours talking to him. He advised me to take so eye drops which I could get over the counter cuz the prescription one's are very expansive ( so he gave me the choice do decide what I wanted ), then asked me if I wanted to get more thorough eye examination which required eye drops which made my eye pupils open wider....it was my choice as well to get it done.... Another thing which made me give that place 5 stars is the staff....I rarely meet such a nice and intelligent girls at the front desks ( no offense to other girls I've been seeing at other places )... they not only were super nice but also very knowledgeable and helpful regarding my insurance coverage and explaining the differences btw. lenses. Very late on writing an update, but here's the gist: Dr. suggested I get a second pair of glasses for reading, so he placed an order and promised I would hear from the office in a week when they had shipped. 2.5 weeks went by and nothing, so I called and apparently they had never been ordered. The woman wasn't all that apologetic either. They said they'd rush them and placed the order. I go to pick them up and they are the wrong frames... so that was a wasted trip and the glasses were ordered again. Go back to get them and this time they are the right frames, wrong lenses. Oof! I'm agitated at this point and the doctor says to make up for it he'll upgrade my lenses to a higher quality. I would have rather have had a discount on the total price as I don't personally care for having upgraded lenses. I finally get them and they are correct frames / lenses, but I don't even wear them because the prescription feels off, but I'm not really interested in going back to get it fixed. Not worth the hassle. Had a great first experience with my first pair of glasses, but the second time around was so absurd that I won't be coming back. read more

If there was an option for zero stars then I would do it. I ordered my glasses Tuesday May 27,2014 at 10:00am because the order would be placed at 12. I was told I could get them possibly by Thursday May 27,2014. They didn't come. Ok so I Guess 7-10 days.On June 24th I called and asked where my glasses were. The receptionist said didn't you get a call. I said no. She said let me check. She then said she shows they were shiped on June 6th. I told her you do realize it's now June 24th and I still don't have my glasses and you don't have them either. She said I don't know what we do at this point. I said at this point you refund my money. She then said she would call me back. She called back 2 minutes later and said she called the lab and They can have them there by Thursday. I said it's been over a month and they said that last time. No I want my money back. She then said let me figure out how to do that. That was Tuesday June 24th at 11:15am I have not heard anything from the office. I called them this morning at 8:30am letting them know I was going to be there today at 5:00 for my refund.....To be continued. read more

I have nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Hua. He is truely one of the best eye doctors in the bay area. I have been coming to see him for over a year and a half. I wish I found him years ago. Everytime I see him he always greets me with a big smile and a hugh hug. He makes me feel like I am part of his family. He is very caring and kind. He always takes time to see how I am doing and feeling. He truely cares. I give him a A++++++ rating. If you are looking for a eye doctor, please look no further. Whoa! This guy offered a "special" on Living Social but in reality it was just his sneaky way of getting people through the door. All the frames are SO over-priced. I have been wearing glasses for years and I have never paid so much. I will NEVER return to Dr. Randy Hua. He is so rude and abrupt. He does not know the meaning of customer service. I kind of feel sorry for him because he seems to have forgotten that sales and customer service go hand in hand and there are hundred of other places that would appreciate my business. Dude, if you think you're profiting from your new clients you are in for a rude awakening when you realize that nobody is returning for their annual check-ups. Worst optometry experience ever. I would never go back here again. My glasses had to be remade twice and were still not correct. The doctor refused to give me a refund even just for the lenses, blamed the lab and argued that the prescription was close enough. I will happily pay more for quality lenses and better service elsewhere. read more

I ordered glasses from this business. I received my glasses timely. My main complaint is Dr. Hua billed my insurance $1167.60 for my glasses and he charged me $387.40, for a grand total of $1555. The frames I chose were only $203. Dr. Hua didn't even tell me about the rebate form that was owed to me. When I came back and asked for the rebate form, Dr. Hua didn't even remember I received glasses from him. The last pair of glasses I ordered from another business only billed my insurance 1/2 the amount for the same product. I brought my husband in and he needed 2 glass frames, Dr. Hua is running a special, "buy 1 pair of glasses and get the 2nd for 1/2 off." I asked about the special and specifically asked Dr. Hua and his office manager/clerk if he would give us the discount even if we use our insurance and they both said yes I would received 1/2 off the second frame. The office manager/clerk called my husband the next day to state they would not honor their word and give him 1/2 off the 2nd pair of glasses. My husband said he was going somewhere else and Dr. Hua didn't even call my husband to make the situation right. How unprofessional! How can you trust someone who doesn't honor their word?! read more

I fell asleep with my contacts on, and when I went to remove them, I was unable to locate one of the contacts. I've had problems in the past with the contact sometimes folding over in my eye, and becoming lodged under my upper lid and thought this was the case. After trying unsuccessfully to locate the contact, my eye was irritated, red, and hurting. I was worried that I might develop an infection if the contact was lodged where I couldn't find it. My regular eye doctor was closed, and I took a chance that Dr. Hua would be able to see me, even though it was 1/2 hour before closing and I didn't have an appointment. I was seen right away and couldn't be happier with the service I received. Dr. Hua performed a very thorough exam to make sure there were no remnants of the lens remaining in my eye and sent me home with antibiotic steroid drops as a precaution since my eye was terribly irritated. I returned today for a follow-up check (my eye much better), and received the same exceptional service, to include samples of a thinner contact lens that he said might work better for me. If I could, I would give Dr. Hua a 6. He really is that good and I highly recommend him. read more
