Tous Les Jours is one of the first cafes I've visited since the city reopened, and I'm so glad I did. Richard was friendly, knowledgeable, and you can tell he takes pride in his business. As someone who's worked in the service industry, I noticed the precautions that were in place to provide safety to both customers and staff. There is a screen in front of the register and other areas of the coffee bar, social distance spaces were marked while standing in line to wait to order, and everyone was wearing masks even in the back of the cafe specifically for staff. Both I and my sister had their specialty pastries and they were AMAZING. Moral of the story? Support this small business during CoVid. They're doing all the right things and have some of the best pastries I've tried in the city. I'll be recommending this spot to everyone I know who lives in Wicker Park/Ukranian Village. read more

Noticed this bakery walking by. We tried the croissant and blueberry cream cheese pastry; we thought the both are a little dry and did not taste as fresh. But to be honest, we went later in the day around 4/5 pm. We went back to try the bakery again and got the breakfast sandwiches! Thought these were very good with a good selection to pick from. I'm a huge fan of Tous Les Jour and I always end up spending at least $30 on a variety of items each time I come. I haven't come across a pastry, I didn't like from here, they are that delicious! I highly recommend anything on their menu. I usually go to the niles location but I was in the wicker part area this time so I decided to stop in for a whole loaf of milk bread. Sadly, this location was out and I got the last half loaf. Aside from not having the same pastries as the other locations, I did come across a few new ones that I had to try. However.. I wasn't a fan of the customer experience here, which is the only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars like the other locations. From the moment I walked in the two employees were rushing me to make my selection. If there is one thing I dislike more than anything is being rushed when there is nobody else in the place except for the employees and myself. As I chose each item the cashier at the checkout was ringing me up and repeatedly shouted over to me "is that all?" Each time I selected an item, same question and on multiple times I had to tell them that I was still browsing. Fast forward I was at checkout and told them I wanted a drink as well but wasn't sure between hot or cold (still nobody else in the place aside from me) and the two employees who were having a conversation amongst themselves and the cashier would pause every other second to look over and say "is that all?" Finally super annoyed I said "Yes! that is all!!" without ordering anything to drink. Ordered a cake for my wife birthday a week in advance. Ordered the earl grey black sugar topping cake. Three-four hours before I was going to pick it up, they called me to inform me that the cake is a seasonal cake thus they no longer have it in stock. I told them if that is the case, why didnt they hold a cake for me when they have it and why did they only see my order today? This is my buddy's coffee shop/patisserie, and it's legit the best. All of their drinks are amazing (try the peach mango smoothie) but even better are all they're baked goods which are made in house. I highly recommend the milk bread thing for kids, and their fruit cake - got it as a gift got my bday and it was a hit! Sometimes it can be hard to find a bakery that you can tell truly prides itself in its pastries. And then again even harder to find one that also mixes French classics with some of my Asian favorites- and boy does tous le jours deliver. The elusive red bean bun is absolutely delicious, as is their curry bun - bringing Japanese classics which can be hard to find in the city. Their pastries are always soft, fresh, and you can tell they pack them with care. Very cute bakery in the neighborhood. Serves more asian inspired pastries that are classic breakfast snacks. Both savory and sweet pastries. I tried a few of the pastries including the hot dog bun and they were very tasty. Their cakes were very good as well (tried the matcha and mango ones) and had a light sweetness that wasn't overpowering. I love bakeries that are self-serve! This bakery kind of reminds me of the famous bakery in the West Coast called 85ºC. Anyways, this cafe is super cute. They have everything you could think of a bakery should have. I went straight to the baked goodies they have and got myself a strawberry shortcake, a whip-creamed filled donut, "Milky bread" and a hot dog wrapped with bread. Everything was fresh and delicious!! My favorite was the strawberry shortcake. The bread was light and fluffy and the filling (whipped cream and strawberries) had the perfect sweetness to it. The "Milky bread" was very moist and was somewhat sweet. The hot dog wrapped in bread delicious! If you're craving something salty and not sweet, I recommend getting it. read more

But if you're looking for baked goods and deserts that are OUT OF THIS WORLD then this is a MUST visit. Yesterday I had their Lemon Almond Cream Pastry and wow--the chef there knows what she's doing (I'm pretty sure the chef is a she). I highly recommend the kimchi croquette. I received 2 gift cards to TLJ from a raffle drawing at a non-profit organization event. I went to this location to use them, and the manager said they do not accept gift cards. The website indicates gift cards can be used at any TLJ location. I think this is an extremely fraudulent business practice where these people are selling gift cards, knowing they will not accept them. This is the second location (first one is the Glenview location) which had declined gift cards. read more

I've been dying for a bakery that sells fresh bread in wicker park and tous le jour delivers! They have milk pan bread and whole grain bread which are both yummy. The only downside is that you have to walk past their amazing collection of other baked goods and exercise some serious self control to not buy the hazelnut croissant or almond French toast ( both of which are delicious, FYI) I've also grabbed their chocolate cakes for desert- super delicious. I ordered a cake in advance for a birthday to be picked up. Went to the store only to find out that they "lost the cake". Nobody even bothered to call me and notify me about it, I had to go there and figure that out for myself. Talked on the phone with the staff and they said that they could begrudgingly offer a different cake. Staff was not really apologetic and did not seem to really care about my order. I wanted the refund LAST WEEK. Nobody has called me yet, not even the manager Richard. My guess is that the staff did not even tell them about the issue yet. I have called this place at least 3 times now and they continue to tell me that the manager is out, and should be in tomorrow around the same time. Hopefully Richard will actually be in tomorrow so I can get at the very least my refund back. read more

We have been here 3x before last night, we always leave pretty happy - but last night (Saturday night) we looked up the hours because we wanted an after dinner coffee and dessert, google and yelp say open until 11pm - we got there at 930. They were closing. Already cleaned and closed down the cafe and would only let us purchase dessert since they were closing early they put it in a box instead of eating it there like we planned. This review is not for the pastries, which I have always found to be quite good. It is rather for the disrespectful and frankly dishonest treatment I experienced recently. I was purchasing. a pastry when I noticed some cards on sale by the counter. There was a price tag below the cards that clearly said $1.50 ea. When the woman working the counter rang me up for my two cards, I questioned the price, as she had charged me significantly more. She responded right away, stating, "oh no, that price is for different items, not the cards in the box. We're aware of that." If they are aware of it, why haven't they corrected it. She refused to credit me for the difference. When I asked to speak with the manager, she said she was the one that was there the longest and no manager was there. I asked her her name and she snapped "I'm not telling you my name." She told me I would have to speak with the owner, and I said, "Please take my name and number and give it to him". She refused that as well and said she "is calling him right now". She also had been having an extremely difficult time coming up with the change for the money I had given her. Not wanting to extend the ridiculousness of the situation, I said "keep the change", and I left. Below is a photo of the cards with the price listed. I believe it is not legal to list a price for a product and then charge a higher price. It's funny how one experience like this can completely turn you off from visiting a store again. read more

Cute and well-located in Wicker Park, but smaller selection than the one in Chinatown, and definitely pales in comparison to the Tous Les Jours in LA, Dallas and NYC I've been to. They were already out of some items by mid-afternoon, and there was no more fresh supply to keep the shelves replenished. The red bean mochi was too sweet, I'd recommend the selections at other Asian bakeries. The baked goods are more their strong suit, everything was artfully made and displayed. I had the sweet potato bread which is like a strudel with mashed sweet potato filling. The exterior pastry is buttery & flaky; the filling is fresh - without too much sugar masking the flavor.
