Yes, the croissants and buns are all the best, but don't sleep on their savory pastries too! The staff are really wonderful in helping you with any questions or recommending popular pastries. I came in for a toogoodtogo bag and you get a generous selection of savory and sweet pastries. Also, at that closing hour, all the pastries are half off! Favorites this time were the cheese bun hotdog, the sweet swirl pastry, and their streudels! There is a good amount of indoor seating but it's put up around closing hour, but definitely worth picking up to go! Both inside and outside seating available at this location.

Yuzu pastry top left (the lightest one) and really liked the honeycomb patterned one top right... caramel almond.

This was a perfect spot to grab some really delicious treats this morning! I went in some 9:30am on a weekday, which was not busy at all. I was afraid all the pastries would be picked over and I would not have a good selection, but to my surprise, I picked several winners! I honestly cannot remember the names of all the pastries, but it's a self serve setup with tongs, bags, and wax paper for customers to grab upon entry. The place has great windows and natural light btw, if you want to sit and enjoy your treat solo or with a friend! I remember the yuzu pastry.... oh my. If you like you and crisp crunch, you must buy that pastry. I also ordered and thoroughly enjoyed an ube latte. I got mine w 1.5 pumps off the syrup so it wouldn't be overly sweet. I feel like sometimes ube can be added with too much sugar and then it just tastes awful to me. I was very pleased with the ratio since the normal amount is 2 full pumps. I will definitely return, if not to this location, too any other they have in the Chicago area!

We tried the Macaroons and the Cloud Cakes. Both were splendid! The service was good and quick. The ambiance was small and cozy, good for a quick dessert run. :)

The cake looks better than it tastes. It's flavors aren't bad at all, just very faint. True cloud-like texture is a plus. I wouldn't make a special trip considering Tous Les Jours may not satisfy a sweet tooth. 3.1 stars.

Now this establishment was a winner! The brownie was delicious! Their coffee was really good and on the strong side. Their cake slices all looked so fresh in the case. Staff was super nice!

My friend decided to cheer me up with a sweet treat and surprised me by ordering a slice of Mango Fresh Cream Cloud Cake and Vanilla Fresh Cream Cloud Cake. This was my first time trying this place, and I absolutely loved it! The cakes were incredibly fresh, flavorful, and just melted in my mouth. If you're looking for light, delicious pastries, I absolutely recommend this place!

TLDR; nice bakery for not-too-sweet cakes This is a cute Korean bakery store in Chicago Chinatown. I like this cake store because the cakes are not too sweet while also containing a milky taste and pillowy texture! I got the mango cloud cake, which visually was very pretty but also the taste was good! The rich, fluffy cream layers were balanced by the acidity of the mango cream that stimulates the senses. This mouthwatering cake plus quick service puts it on my list of favorite cake places! That being said, it was pretty standard compared to other Korean bakeries, I.e. nothing spectacular. Coffee was meh. Solid 4/5!

Dropped by TLJ for something sweet while out with the girls and enjoyed our time there. The cafe was clean and the workers were friendly and upbeat! I had gotten a nice hot strawberry latte and expected it was delicious and not too sweet! Their macarons were also not to sweet and soft. Just loved the overall vibes. Great hangout for catching up with friends.

The best croissants in town! I go to this cute coffee/pastry joint a lot as their bakery items are supreme! Their croissants are spectacular as well as the cloud cake. Their coffee is good too! I recommended the tiramisu latte! The staff is quite helpful and nice. I go here to study and I find the ambience fitting for me for sure - also helps that they're open until 9pm most days!

How am I just finding this now? I love it! So many cute pastries, you can pick up tongs and a bag and grab whatever you want and then order coffee at the register. It's so cute and has a ton of Korean / French pastries! The only difficult thing is remembering what you put in your bag to tell the person checking you out. They have a little toaster to warm up pastries inside too. My favorite was the kimchi croquette I think I've ordered like 3 in the past week and a half after visiting.

THE CUTEST FUSION BAKERY EVER!!! My parents, my husband and I were strolling in Chinatown Square and came across Tous Les Jours. I am not a huge fan of matcha or ube but I thought it was really cool how there were so many cool French pastries that incorporated those ingredients! I actually ended up getting a piece of their chocolate cake with strawberries to take home and it was HEAVEN! I wish we would have gotten more to bring back! It was also super impressive how they made coffee, as they grinded their own beans literally for every cup (see attached photo). Definitely will be making this a stop for any Chicago Chinatown visit!!!

Can you please add gluten free pastries? i.e rice flour items. Macaroons don't cut it. Also whipped coconut creme would put you in a class above the rest :))

Unfortunately, they don't. I have allergies to milk products and gluten. There's nothing there to take advantage of. It is a great suggestion, and I hope their leaders see this.

Do you have any dessert items that are gluten free?

Hi Vanessa! We have 14 different macarons that are gluten-free & organic. We also have a Korean style Mango Shaved Ice & Matcha Green Tea Shaved Ice!

I've been a customer of almost 10 years and have been obsessed since they first opened their doors at a different location. I literally live an hour away without traffic and even longer with traffic, but I make sure to stop by or send someone else to get it for me at least once a month or more. I love the amazing cakes that are so delicious and unique but on top of that, it is Asian owned, LGBTQ supporting, etc. A lot has changed since their little storefront with no seating. The bakery is now a full on cafe and I'm so happy to see how much they've grown and how successful they are. And while it is glorious, I will say I miss the sweet neighborhood charm and great customer service it used to have. Getting in touch with the bakery through phone or text can be tough and to be honest, sometimes one of the people working there is kind of...very mean. It had me questioning if I should keep coming back. I just love this bakery so much though and being raised by parents that had a small food business, I can't help but want to support. I had a particularly difficult last minute request for the bakery a few weeks ago and I was reminded why this place is so great. It had been YEARS since I made this specific request, which was an order for a slice of cake for every flavor and a cupcake for every flavor. This is a BIG and time consuming request, especially if it's last minute. Unfortunately I come to the city whenever the traffic isn't atrocious, so it's always last minute. Dom absolutely pulled through though. Even though there were other employees there (I saw two others but one disappeared and then another male was kind of walking around the cafe and such), Dom took this giant request and fulfilled it himself. The other gentleman (not the mean person previously mentioned) was actually who I made the request to, but he told Dom to do it. I was kind of confused why they didn't do it together but idk, maybe the other guy isn't allowed to handle food? Who knows. Regardless, this request obviously took a long time and the line was getting longer; people were getting a little restless but Dom stayed calm but was swift. I swear he was moving faster than most people in the industry could with a cake knife like that. He was not impatient or rude to me at all. He was just there to do his job as fast and well as possible. It's so rare to see that type of work ethic. He is also so obviously proud of the bakery and the food they serve which makes you feel good about being a patron there. So although I continue to have an unpleasant experience with one particular employee there, Dom keeps my love for this bakery alive. He reminds me of what this bakery was like when they first opened their doors. I hope Dom is cherished there and I bet he is considering his work ethic. I will continue to support this bakery and I recommend everyone else to support as well. It may not be that small little shop anymore but Dom is a reminder of the heart of the place.

Due to its proximity to major downtown attractions like the Art Institute and office buildings, long lines will happen during morning work rushes and weekend peak hours. But it's worth the wait. For my money, the chocolate croissant, stuffed with rich chocolate mousse, is class, and will ensure you won't go hungry. At all. In fact, I had half of it in a Ziploc for two days, and it still tasted amazing. The chocolate mousse alone will give you a rush that will send you blasting into outer space. Their morning sandwich was pretty good with scrambled eggs, cheddar, bacon, avocado, and tomatillo sauce on toasted semolina. I bought 3 and my friend got 2. Calamansi cream + pistachio paste danish was my favorite. The Calamansi cream was the perfect texture and density with a fragrant citrus note. When I took a sip of coffee afterwards it made my coffee taste like I was drinking fresh orange juice. The pistachio is more cake like inside than full paste and isn't too sweet. Flaky dough, soft pistachio center and creamy top with a sharp citrus cut. Peach + raspberry Melba danish. The peaches were soft. I'm not familiar with a Melba dessert but the center of this was almond paste which is not my favorite but if you like almond and tart danish it would hit the spot. Raspberry espresso cream cheese cinnamon roll was a fun fruity twist to a cinnamon roll. Couldn't really tell there was espresso though. Blueberry lime cheesecake danish. I also liked this one because of the lime. It really cuts through the heaviness. The fruits on top were also fresh. They also have one day old blind boxes. I grabbed a 6 piece day old box to go and it was actually 6 different pasteries, half sweet and half savory! It only repeated 1 of the pasteries I had originally tried so I'm excited to try more, especially the savory ones. It's an amazing deal if you just want to try a variety of flavors. Tried the Hot dog danish - really good! Upscale pigs in a blanket vibes. The tiny fried are seasoned perfectly and add a fun crunch. I went on a weekday and there was still a good selection of pastries left around 11am. The staff was super nice and helpful as I struggled to make a decision. They shared that the strawberry milk croissant was their bestseller, so I opted for that. It was filled with fresh strawberry mascarpone and fresh strawberry puree. Despite the croissant's decadent appearance, it was not at all too sweet. I'm not typically the biggest croissant fan (I know, I know, no one is perfect) but this pastry blew me away. The filling was super generous without overpowering the delicate dough, which was baked to crispy perfection. There were so many things I wanted to try, the people working were so nice and despite being small inside, it gave a very intimate cafe feeling. Will 100% be back to try more things. The cake tasting was a wonderful experience, giving us plenty of delicious options to choose from while helping us create the perfect cake for our special day. Throughout the entire process, their communication was outstanding. They kept us informed every step of the way and worked directly with our wedding venue, "Firehouse Chicago", to coordinate the delivery and logistics. Everything was handled seamlessly, and our cake arrived exactly as planned without a single issue. Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, but Bittersweet's professionalism, organization, and proactive approach gave us one less thing to worry about. Their attention to detail and commitment to excellent customer service truly stood out. One feature we especially love is that they keep the recipe and design of your wedding cake on file. Every anniversary, they can recreate your wedding cake or a cake in any size you choose. We've continued this tradition, and each anniversary cake has been just as delicious as the original while bringing back wonderful memories of our wedding day. If you're looking for a bakery that is responsive, dependable, and delivers an outstanding product, I highly recommend Bittersweet Bakery for your wedding cake or any bakery needs. They responded promptly to our questions and requests, unlike some businesses that never replied to estimate inquiries. Their customer service and quality were truly exceptional. A heartfelt thank you to Samuel who conducted the Cake Tasting and the entire staff at Bittersweet Bakery for helping make our dream wedding a reality. We will always be grateful and look forward to celebrating many more anniversaries with your incredible cakes.
