I have never stayed here, but put my parents up there and they said it was "perfectly fine" - maybe the sheets we a little skimpy, but nothing they couldn't deal with. A great interaction I had with them from the online booking, and via email, the communication was great. My most favorite part is that they went the extra mile to accommodate us for an error on our part that happened. The staff was extremely helpful. The grounds are always clean, and the swimming pool looks fantastic! And I know Jim and Patty who own and run the place next door, "Good Eats on Rte 6" - Their fast food is amazing and delicious. read more

This is probably our 6th or 7th stay at Town Crier in 5 years, and we are happier than ever about the good deal it is. All of our stays have been positive. This stay was a special off-season package that is unbeatable. It pays to be loyal customers. We love the towns if Eastham, Orleans, Wellfleet and Truro and Town Crier gives us access to them all. After a hearty breakfast buffet, Included in our stay, a long walk on the beach, Ben & Jerry's, and a fabulous beet salad at Arnold's (next door to Town Crier), we haven't even gotten to the end of our perfect day. Tonight we have s concert at the Eastham Elks lodge for Della Mae. We joined the performing arts center in Wellfleet-Truro, so our tickets were $12 each. Wow. We'll be back for Delbert McClinton in August. We're still 2 days away from going home. What a wonderful long weekend. Life is good. read more

**DISCLAIMER** I know the family that owns this motel pretty intimately, so, I'm trying to give my most unbiased review here, but y'all should be aware of that fact. This is a MOTEL. It's NOT a hotel, Inn, or B&B. If you keep that in mind, then this place is pretty on par with what you would expect. I stayed with my friends in one of their older rooms, which had 2 huge queen/double like beds which fit 2 people generously, a fridge and a microwave. The room was pretty spacious, and the flatscreen TV was new enough. NO PROBLEMS sleeping, or with using the shower/bathroom facilities. Look, it's an old motel in the cape. No surprises and no fancy amenities, but great to come back to after a kayak, boat ride, or day at the beach. The room we were in WAS musty, but just open the door to the beautiful fresh air, or toss on the A/C (which worked perfectly albeit a bit loudly). The breakfast. This is a little hit and miss. The omelettes were freshly prepared and made to order, and were yummy. The OATMEAL RAISIN cookies are home made and to die for. My friends and I got a bag of the leftover cookies after breakfast and devoured the whole bag within a short amount of time. Perfect dipped in coffee. Other aspects of the meal were...eh. The bacon was crispy and tasty (obvi), as was the triangular hashbrowns and the home fries. But the ...what's the name of it....with chopped meat (or SPAM) and tiny potatoes was definitely not very good. The poached egg on top was a good idea, but that and the sausage were pretty greasy and without any flavour. A healthy dose of salt,pepper, and tobasco was probably necessary. The ENGLISH MUFFIN bread though, toasted with jam was fantastic (and also homemade. You can by the loaves)... There is a lot of family history in the place (all the woodwork was handmade) that the general visitor won't get to learn about, but does make the place seem even more quaint. Yes, it's pricey, especially in the peak season, but it IS on par with all of the other Motels in the area...and I've seen quite a few that are in worse repair. You put out what you put in. The peak season is a crazy time for everybody, so take a deep breath, enjoy the large rooms and the homemade baked goods. Get decent coffee down the block, and put out positive vibes to everybody around you, and you'll have a great stay at the town crier. Now, you may come across a cantankerous soul or two, just smile, nod, and recognize that working in the Cape w/ the busy season on can be a pain in the a$$! VACATIONERS BEWARE! We have stayed at just about every motel on this part of the cape, and without question this was the worst. For MANY reasons: Upon checkin, we were told our rooms were "private." They were in the back of the motel, facing the opposite way of all other guests. The rooms were disgusting, from the smell, to the filthy walls, to the spiders, it was awful. The windows hadn't been cleaned in years, dust, dirt, dead bugs and cobwebs everywhere. Sunday morning there was a loud drilling noise outside our room for about an hour. We told the owner who said "I didn't know work was being done." At her own business she didn't know? We had booked 2 nights, but couldn't bear the thought of spending anymore time in this motel. When we voiced the complaints, the owner was extremely rude. We were not given a refund, but we decided losing $300 was well worth leaving the Town Crier and NEVER returning. We are just lucky we didn't catch some disease or infection from the stay. read more

The place is run down - room features are falling apart. Wi-Fi sometimes works and sometimes doesn't inside the room. Breakfast was overpriced and pretty bad. Worst of all was that we got a mini-fridge to store some food and medication. We discovered later that the fridge was not getting cold. The food had gone bad. The handbook said that the office was open something like seven days a week until 7pm. I went to the office a bit before 6, and there was a sign on the door saying that they were "out and about" and listed a number to call. I called the number and got Judy's voicemail. I left a message about getting a replacement fridge and gave a call-back number. Never heard back throughout the evening and the next morning around 11, when we left the key in the drop box since there was still nobody there, and we took off. I ended up filling the fridge with ice, which kind of worked. read more

My boyfriend and I just stayed at the Town Crier Motel after purchasing a deal from Living Social - we had a lovely long weekend. Our rooms were clean and quaint and we were welcomed with a bottle of wine upon entering our room. The breakfast was much more than we could have expected - we had a freshly made frittata and our choice of many other breakfast items from the buffet. The restaurant was, again, clean and quaint and the service was friendly. Lastly, you can't beat the location! The coupons given to us by Town Crier with the Living Social deal showed us what the immediate area has to offer - we most enjoyed our full day bike trip to the breathtaking beaches and our complimentary ice cream cones. I stayed here 6/29/2018. Staff was friendly enough. Now the room was another thing. When I first opened the door the smell wasn't to bad. Smelled like a floral fragrance they spayed on the rug that also had stains on it. The bathroom tub and shower looked like it hadn't been really cleaned in a very long time just rinsed off. The bedspreads are about 10 years old if they are a day and didn't look like they were washed in months or longer. We put the AC on and left for an hour and upon our return all I could smell was urine. By this time the office was closed. For the price, the place is nice. We didn't take advantage of the restaurant (closed while we were here), the pool, or the game room, so I can't say anything about that. The room we stayed in was very nice looking, spacious, and clean. The bathroom, however, was another matter. There was a serious rot problem in the floor near the shower and toilet. It was squishy and discolored. At one spot it felt like I would break through the linoleum if I put all my weight on it. The water was quirky as well. It felt like the bathroom came from a whole other hotel, it was such a change from the main room. All in all, though, it wasn't bad for the price, especially if you plan to be elsewhere for most of the vacation. I've certainly seen worse places to sleep. read more

Had the Groupon, and stayed for two nights end of April. I'm aware its off-season, so the place was pretty deserted (which was great for me!) Right off the bike trail and highway. Convenient to lots of other places too. Location could not be beat. I don't know what the pricing was like without the deal, but I found the accommodations very comfortable and relaxing. Just what I needed to get away. I'm aware this was a motel, but my only concern was that the room could have used an upgrade (shower 'sang' when I turned on the hot water and WiFi was spotty) and I didn't have maid service, but that could have been due to being there off-season. Still, can't beat the friendly staff, proximity to the bike trail, and overall niceness of the experience. read more

Old school motel. Circa late 60's-early 70's decour. Some would call vintage The good: The room was very clean, kudos to the maid. Place was pretty quite the two nights we were there. That was fine for me as we were looking for a quite get away. The bad: The indoor pool looked nice , but was closed all weekend. The motel restaurant was also closed. The later was okay, as we found a great place for breakfast a couple miles down the road called Hole in One Donuts. We were out and about the cape during the day and early evening. This is one of the worst hotels/motels I had EVER stayed in... OMG! The rooms were pretty bad, just looked beat and old... It wasn't that bad because we just slept there and the AC worked so, whatever, the place is cheap so I wasn't expecting anything fancy... But I got less than I expected even at the price I paid. The worst part was the breakfast. WOW, the guys serving it looked like they were fresh out of prison/the insane asylum... Scary dudes. The food was not edible. The coffee cups were all dirty and greasy (it's self service) I kept looking for a clean one but then I just gave up... Food was horrifying, just indescribably bad. I figured, okay, I'll just have a muffin, I mean how bad can a muffin be??? I asked the guy behind the counter what flavor their muffins where... "raisin" he says looking at me like he wants to stab me... Okay thanks.... LOL... Avoid this place at all costs!!! read more

My boyfriend and our couple-friends each bought this LivingSocial deal for a nice weekend on the Cape, unfortunately this motel was a huge disappointment. Let me break up this review by what was promised via the LivingSocial deal: What was promised: "In the morning, start your day at the motel's casual poolside restaurant, serving made-to-order eggs, hash browns, pancakes, fresh fruit, and more. Accommodations are decorated in classic Cape décor, equipped with private entrances, and appointed with two double beds, a flat-screen TV, a desk with a chair, and a microwave and refrigerator." What we experienced: We were not allowed "made to order eggs" unless we wanted to pay an additional $4. The man who was supervising the buffet let us know that we could have some of the mushroom omelette that he had already prepared (and was cut in half because apparently the person before us only wanted half an omelette), but that if we wanted any other type of egg (even your standard scrambled) it would be extra. In addition, as LivingSocial patrons, we were only allowed to go to the buffet one time, and we were not welcome to all that was displayed at the buffet; we were offered the aforementioned cut-up mushroom omelette, bacon (only 2 slices), mini-pancakes (only 2), and a bit of potatoes/an attempt at home fries. My friend has Celiac Disease and explained to the woman who owns the motel that she cannot eat gluten, and asked if instead of getting pancakes she could have some eggs (otherwise all she could eat was bacon & potatoes); in response, the owner told her: no, made-to-order eggs are not included in the deal and to eat some pancakes. The woman who runs this motel clearly had no idea what gluten or Celiac Disease is, which is a telling sign as to how outdated this motel is (as a side note: as a general rule, if you're going to manage a restaurant you should be sensitive, aware, and accommodating to food allergies). By "Classic Cape Decor" the motel must have meant "1980's decor" as the rooms were incredibly outdated and the TV's were certainly not flat-screened as promised, they were in fact box TVs (which is fine, just don't lie in your advertisements). The beds were also very hard & springy, reminiscent of dormitory bedding. One last point about the rooming situation: my friends had the room next to us (which was great!) however, whenever they turned the shower on, it sounded like a torrential rain storm was passing through our hotel room (the same thing happened to them when we turned on our shower). On a different note: as part of the LivingSocial deal, we were promised coupons to help us have a great time in the local area, these coupons included: 1) Lobster Dinner for Two at Arnold's Lobster & Clam Bar 2) Full-Day Bicycle Rentals for Two 3) Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream for Two There were no lobster dinner coupons in my room, and the Ben & Jerry coupon was for a "Kiddie Size" (equivalent of a Kid Size, or Extra Small)... even though the LivingSocial was clearly for two adults. All in all, it was a pretty disappointing experience compared to other stays I have had on the Cape, and other escapes I have used from LivingSocial. I think the main issue with this experience was that as a LivingSocial customer, the motel owner had the mindset that we were a 2nd class customer and did not deserve the same amenities as other customers. As a someone in the marketing field with experience with these types of group-deal websites, this is not the intent nor spirit of LivingSocial; perhaps the motel owner should better understand her marketing efforts. read more

The living social deal was great and we loved the motel. It was clean, in a good location and the pool was nice. They had badminton and a grill as well. The staff was accommodating and kind. The bike rental was not too far away. The restaurant was ok - but that's a different review I guess. I think you get a lot for your money. Very near to the bike trails and not far from the beach. I recommend the bait and tackle shop as well as heading up to Provincetown for some whale/seal watching. read more

My wife and I needed a room for one night while visiting friends, some hotels require two or more nights, so we choose the Town Crier. Convenient location but this place is Worn & Tired, The room was clean enough, the sheets and towels were fine, the room and bathroom, although clean had a dingy, dated look to them. There was a mini fridge in room which was helpful .The beds were very uncomfortable and the A/C was So loud it kept us awake all night . My wife and I stayed in room 3 in August of 2014 and found the room perfect, clean, great breakfast for a very reasonable price and the beds were very comfortable. The negative feedback I read below is typical for someone who wants a free ride in life at the cost of the credibility of the establishment. That review is far from the truth so consider that when selecting a great motel to stay at. If I could provide a 0 star rating I would. I had stayed here before for Cape get-a-ways and thought no problem to book again even though the rooms are old and worn. It's generally a good bargain place to stay. Sadly, a medical emergency cropped up and we needed to cancel our recent reservation. I called as soon as I was able to but the manager was not willing to cancel the reservation and wanted to not only keep my deposit but charge the full amount. I understand cancelling can be a burden, but in a case of an unplanned emergency, there needs to be a bit of compassion. Instead I was met with hostility and rudeness by whomever answered the phone. Not sure if you have to be a local to be treated well but there is no way we'll ever book there again! read more

Disappointing My boyfriend and I purchased a package deal for this hotel. In this package there were two vouchers for the breakfast buffet. On Saturday morning, as we were happily heading to breakfast, we were turned down by the servers because they were told by management to close and hour early. Signs in our hotel room, and elsewhere clearly stated "Breakfast Until 11:00". We brought it to the attention of the woman at the desk, and she basically, said, "Oh well". We were not offered any sort of compensation or even an apology. We had to go purchase breakfast elsewhere... even though we had already paid for breakfast at the Town Crier. read more

by far the WORST place ever stayed at!! where to start. . . . . we had a whole soccer team and families staying there Memorial day weekend and upon arriving at the motel, kids wanted to swim in the pool. parents sat and watched as kids jumped into the pool. when they came out they were covered in white paint! turned out after talking with the owner (much older lady ) they had painted the pool and not let it dry before they filled it! the water looked like MILK! she made it seem like it wasn't a big deal and put a closed sign on it. in the past couple days, all we saw was her son or son in law put a hose in the pool and fill it up! NOT DRAIN IT! that night one of the kids went to bed so the parents asked for a cot. they grabbed it from the storage in the basement (game room) and when he climbed into the cot with sheets on it and ready for bed, he complained that there was sand in it ( which i think the parents wished it was sand too). we pulled the sheets back and it was FULL OF MICE POOP!!!! we stormed into the office again and asked WTF and she says " well we dress the cots in the winter and store them, how am i suppose to know whats in them"!!! gets better, next day kids go down into the game room, which we find out is also full of mice poop on the floor, so the kids looked into the freezer (being kids and nosey) and notice the food they were serving us at breakfast was out dated by MONTHS! we asked for our breakfast money back and she said NO. these people were the WORST in customer service EVER. i will NEVER go back there and would not even recommend to my worst enemy! stay far far away from them!! oh they did rein-burst the family 1 night after there kid rolled around in mouse poop! When We showed up three men got out of a car asking if they could help us.We said we were here to get a room.They said they thought no one was coming.Was a great location to see sights,Room was dated but okay,no breakfast available,figured as much since reading others reviews.No coffee in office or coffeemakers in room.No ice available to my knowledge.There was ice machine covered outside of office..Door on room was impossible to unlock so We didn't lock room while out for fear of not getting back in.The clerk told us they are under new management so let him know if anything is needed.There was nice restaurant" Fairway Restaurant & Pizza"with great food down the street and Cumberland Farms nearby for other stuff.All in all it wasn't bad stay ,clean everywhere outside of boxspring covers,heat , hot water,refrigerator and microwave and cable.It wasn't bad for off season stay. read more

The room was small and quite worn. Everything was old and tired. Sheets never stayed on the mattress. Woke up in the morning with sheet bunched up around you. The room was clean and the bathtub area though very old was also clean. The sink area needed a good scrubbing. Everyone commented on the friendly people. I met one very friendly maid but the man in the office was definitely not friendly. The 12.50 breakfast was not worth it. Coffee was odd tasting as was the bacon. Plastic tablecloth was sticky. I will say buffet line was run well with people serving you so that it was not a mess. The front grounds that face the highway were very well kept up and made quite a pretty entrance. Stayed there with a large group that were in town for a funeral. Town Crier rooms are clean, beds and linens were very comfortable. We had an end cap room - # 14 , very bright and cheerful. Recently posted review of how terrible this motel is. Wanted to give it no stars. Now wish I could give it minus stars. Now this business has added insult to injury. When I checked in they gave me a corrected bill because they had overcharged my card. Guess what? Statement just came and the overcharge still there. But wait! Called motel and spoke to female who still lacked customer service skills. Claimed the adjustment was sent to card company. When told they have no record of it she said she would have given me credit but since I already spoke to the card company. Better service would have been for her to say I will check records and send adjustment back out right away. read more

Let me first start off my saying that this is a motel and to not expect much. The place is very clean (rooms and grounds) and the staff are friendly (with the exception of the owner). We were on a package deal offered through their website which included free buffet two mornings.The food is so-so. You can only pass through the buffet line once and the choices are limited. They offered scrambled eggs with cheese which were pretty greasy, so we had to pay the extra $4 to have scrambled eggs without cheese the next time we went. The orange juice had that particular taste when it is near its expiration date (or maybe it was expired). On my arrival, I had to ask for the coupons which came with the package deal. My understanding from people I met were that the coupons were in their rooms, along with a bottle of wine which I also had to ask for. The refrigerator in the room was not working, so we were moved to another room. As I said the room was clean, but very outdated; especially the bathroom - pink tubs and sink, dingy wallpaper. Again, it is a motel. Outside of the room are lights which, in our room, shine right through the blinds and on to the head of the bed. Curtains along with the blinds would curtail this. There was no flat screen tv in our first room, but there was in the second. The pool was refreshing and clean. The free wi-fi is a plus. The place is centrally located which is also a plus. My low score has to do with a situation where I unfortunately, due to a family issue, had to cut the vacation short a day. We were having such a good time, that we were going to see if we could extend a day. I approached the owner of the establishment and she said "I will work with you." She said she couldn't give me a refund, but could give me a credit. This was agreeable to me since I was having a lovely time and planned on returning in the fall. Again, the place isn't bad if you are not expecting much other than a clean place to lay your head. On the eve of my departure, I went in to the office to ask how to proceed with check out and to obtain the credit. I was actually going to apply the credit to re-book for a weekend stay in the fall. This is when the owner's tone changed. I was told that there was nothing she could do and that if she were able to book the room, I would get a credit. She said she would contact me. My gut feeling told me that I was not going to hear from her. Not the way she spoke to me versus the nice conversation I had with her during breakfast. I left not feeling that she was being honest. The next evening, I asked my father to call and see if there were any rooms available. He did and was told that they were booked for the evening. So I called and spoke to the owner. She told me that she had "one or two rooms still available and that she would not give me a credit as promised." I then informed her that my father had just called and was told that there weren't any rooms available and she said that she did not know who he spoke to and that he was misinformed. I told her it was not no more than 15 minutes ago. I could sense her anger and her reply was that "they were not accepting phone reservations, but only street walk-ins." She then told me that because I was pressing the issue that I wasn't going to see any credit. The next morning, I once again called to follow up. I only asked if the room was booked and was told no and that I was harassing her and that because of this I wasn't getting nothing. " I am the owner and I will do what I want." Both conversations with here were less than 4 minutes long. So, I went from receiving a credit, to receiving a credit if the room was booked, to receiving a credit if the room was booked through a walk in reservation only, to getting nothing because I followed up on the situation. read more

We were on the Cape for a family function and rented 2 rooms. Now remember, this is a MOTEL, and it's a little dated, but the place was absolutely spotless. The cleanest bathtub I've ever seen, even in high end hotels. The location is great, very convenient and the people are friendly and very helpful. You can walk next door for great food at Arnolds, ice cream, mini golf....it's a quaint cape cod motel. I'll definitely be back! read more

The pictures on Living Social seemed like it was a great place once we arrived no one was there to welcome us ... They left our keys in our room. The air conditioner didn't work and the shower barely had water coming out and when we turned it on it screamed. The maid service was optional but would charge you $5 a day... The "free breakfast" was only for one serving for the breakfast buffet which did not have great options at all. When I told the manager that I had a food allergy she said "I'm sorry we can give you some pancakes". The flat screen tv was not that at all. It was an old school tv. It was not what we were expecting at all and people are really better off staying somewhere else. read more

We loved our stay! Judy and her staff were great. It is what you always hope a family owned and operated business will be. The rooms were clean and what they advertise on their web page. It was recommended by a friend who's family has been staying there for years. It is a great location for the beach, bike path and eating. Arnold's restaurant, a cape cod must, is next door as is a great sandwich shop called the Box Lunch. The breakfast provided was good as well. The pool was clean and inviting.
