I have once again had a miserable experience at a Town Fair store. It appears that there is a corporate culture there to be more concerned with being right than trying to do what is right for their customers. On 12/29, 5 weeks ago, I purchased a tire from Town Fair, a General tire that does have great performance. Over the weekend, I noticed that there was a crack in the sidewall, and bulges I could feel in the sidewall belts. I went back to the store, expecting a fair and prompt resolution. The first thing that happened was the staff started to tell me that my 5-week old tire was "an old tire." I didn't have paperwork with me, but they were able to quickly look it up. They then took a quick look at the tire and after seeing that I had not purchased the road-hazard warrantee, proclaimed it to be a road hazard, despite the fact that there was not a single scuff anywhere on the tire, and no indication on the treads that the tire had struck anything. They would not budge. I do admit that by now, my voice was firm, and there was no doubt I was displeased, but it seemed that they were enjoying being able to put me in my place. This was very much proven to be so when I told them that I would leave, very dissatisfied, never would purchase from Town Fair Tire again, and I would write a review of their store on a number of on-line sites. The response of one of their staff was a very smug word: "Congratulations!" He clearly thought that his job was to make me as mad as possible before I left his store. At this point, I was even more outraged, and asked to speak with the store manager. He was not as arrogant as his staff, but also stuck to the story that this was a road hazard, also after only a cursory look, but after I mentioned that I was going to write on-line reviews, he said he'd be willing to work with me. At least this was a step forward from the "the heck with you" attitude of his staff, so I calmed down a bit to ask what he would do. His offer seemed fair enough, though I was not pleased that the only reason anyone was offering to do anything was that I was not acting pleased and because I had threatened to write on-line reviews. (At one point, the manager did use words similar to, "Threats are threats...") Naturally, Town Fair did not have an exact replacement tire, so I was explaining what tires were on my car and what I had purchased as a spare. I did tell him that I had made the mistake of purchasing the 3 tires on my car from Town Fair. He then decided that it was more his job to lecture me about my manners than to talk about resolving the problem, and after a couple of minutes of his holier-than-thou lecture, I decided that I had enough, and even though the financial arrangements he was willing to make after my displeasure and threats were sufficient, I didn't think that he should be lecturing me, instead of lecturing the wise guys he has working at the store, so I simply chose to walk away. Some things in life are not about the money. It is apparent from a few experiences I have had with Town Fair that they are a great store if things go their way, but if things go wrong, they are more interested in winning arguments than in resolving things for their customer. So, I will give them that -- they won. If you do purchase a tire from them, expect great service until things go wrong, but if things do not go right, expect that unless you are willing to turn things into an argument, they will do their best to push you around and to make sure that you, not they, pay for whatever happens. This seems to be a corporate mindset, because this is the 2nd time that winning arguments has been more important to low-and-middle level staff. If you want a good price on tires, Town Fair may be your store, but if you want good customer service and a store that stands behind its products, I recommend that you avoid them like the plague. read more

Bad experience! I went in with a flat tire that couldn't be fixed. I bought a new tire from them. When I got home, I realized that they put the wrong tire on. I have a four wheel drive vehicle that needs matching tread. After a couple of attempts to fix the problem and being very frustrated, I went to Town Fair Tire in Enfield, CT where some of my friends go. I was very happy with their service. Even though Town Fair Tire in Avon is two miles from my house, I will drive the distance to Enfield to get much better service. read more

The definition of incompetent. I had snow tires mounted on my 17" like-new rims and the mounting machine scratched them up very badly. There is a half inch wide ring of scratches going all the way around all four rims, half an inch from the edge. I went back and they offered $250 towards the repair of the rims (at least $800 to repair properly), still denying they had anything to do with it. I even had them take off one of my wheels and dismount and remount the tire with me watching (they actually did it) and I could see EXACTLY where the machine made contact with my rim. They still deny it. I am in the process of communicating with corporate, and if that goes nowhere I am bringing them to small claims court. Please save yourself from this miserable establishment and go to Route 10 Tire 20 min. up the road!! read more

My husband and I went into this establishment and found a very nice sales man. He was accommodating and engaging. Then the rude and dismissive manager got involved. He was condesending to this one employee, he was rude to every customer at the counter. We puchased 4 snow tires for my husband car and a spare tire for my car. The snow tires needed to be ordered. Fine. we made an appointment to come back in to have the tires put on the care and my spare had to be placed under the trunk. We were told when we arrived for out 4: 30 appointment that it would take about 1 hour and 45 minutes. ( we arrived at 4:10) At 6 :10 neither car had been even looked at and when we questioned the service person ( TYLER) he could not have been nastier or more rude. Then they sevice man came in and told my husband that the lock for the tires on the car was missing. We sat there for 2 hours and nothing was said. I had the spare placed in my trunk and took it to the local service station and it was done in 10 minutes. My husband rescheduled the appt. went to the dealer and low and behold the lock was right in the trunk, where it should be. They never even so much as took a flask light to see if they could find it. Back we go on Saturday to have the tires put on the car. 2 hours after we dropped off the car, we are called and they ordered the wrong size tires. I said enough. We want a credit. We returned to the tire place and TYLER , was nasty and mean. The credit was issued, but no apology. At the same time were were doing this , another woman was complaining that her husband had an 9:30 appt. and was still there at 2:30. His car was never even moved from the parking lot. Worse place ever. Town fair tire should fire everyone that works there. That place needs an under cover executive from town fair tire to come in and experiencethe poor customer service and rude employees. No one leaves there happy ! TOWN FAIR TIRE SHOULD NOT EXIST. They have no concern with your time and have limited knowledge. Through the years they have mounted tires inside out for asymmetric tires, damaged rims and just generally have no clue. Use as a last resort read more

Waited 2.5 days to get 1 flat tire switched over. There were cars "ahead" of me all day today? Really, so all those cars were here 2 days ago? I did not really care as I had access to an extra car but I called at 3:30 as they close at 4 and they said it was not done but I should come down since they close se at 4. Got there at 4 and it's still not touched. 1 flat tire. Finally roll out at 4:30. I want to go here I really do because it's so close but recently honestly it has been much better at Costco. Hate to go to a place like that but they r nice, not pushy and do what they say. read more

One star is even generous. First they say you need tires, then they convince you a no-name brand is equal quality and say don't worry, it's got a warranty. But when a second shop tells you the tires need replacing 20k miles sooner than warranty mileage? Try going back to TFT and getting that pro-rated mileage from the warranty. Then it's a big deal and you're out of luck . Never going here again and telling everyone to watch out for this shop. read more

visited TFT's website & left an email for someone to contact me about tire/wheel package. 48 hrs later, got a call from Hank & the guy was helpful & knowledgeable. So much so, I left for the store right after the call. He greeted me, we talked about what I needed & what would work for my SUV. I had the tire I wanted in mind & knew the wheel style I wanted. He answered every question I had. It was really busy there, too - but he didn't lose his step & neither did the other guy when Hank asked him some questions about the centering rings (I think his name is Greg). The order's arrival took a little longer than expected but once they came in, I scheduled my appt & I was in & out of there in just over an hour. Took it back after about 50 mi to get the lugs re-torques & I was there 20 mins. A week later, after driving on 91 at highway speeds, I noticed a shudder in the front wheels at 60-5MPH & rear wheels at 70-75MPH. Went in 10AM on Friday - no appt again & VERY busy - they rebalanced the wheels & I was outta there in 45 mins. My experience was so good, I was pleasantly surprised - I told them I almost didn't come to the store based on craigslist posts & some Yelp reviews - but glad I let my common sense rule the day. I got a KILLER price on the deal, they matched Tirerack's tire prices & beat the internet on the TSW wheels I bought. Free install, free alignment (which I didn't need), free lifetime balance & rotation, free retorque, free lifetime tire repair... what's to complain about again here?? I don't quite get the negative reviews. Not saying the experiences aren't real - but I say this. TFT wouldn't be there in Avon if they were as bad as some of these folks say & folks weren't using & happy with their services. There are just too many options in & around Avon to put up with poor or rude service so, TFT in Avon must be doing something right to be there almost 30 years. I think folks should take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. I was there twice for about an hour each time & didn't once see anyone treated with disrespect & the salespeople were very, very helpful. Use your common sense, no business would be in business for 30 years if they were garbage. Check them out - you won't be sorry. All of the people in that store the 2 times I was there seemed like very satisfied customers. read more

Really need to share a horrible experience that I had today in the Avon store. Had a 9:30 am appointment to purchase 4 new tires, put them on, balance them, align them etc. sat in the waiting room for 3 hours finally walked up to the desk to inquire about how much longer and they had no idea! Eventually called my daughter to pick me up, we did a bunch of errands, and went home. They texted me 5 hours later that my car was finally ready for pick up at which point I had to drive 25 miles and come back to be checked by 4:00. Drove to the Torrington TFT and was ready in 5 minutes, no wait. I refuse to go back to the Avon location. From now on I will visit the Torrington store. This was so wrong on so many levels. They should have told me from the beginning how long the wait was so that I could have gotten a ride at 9:30 and not wasted my whole day off sitting in a tire store ingesting the rubber fumes for 3 hours with a splitting headache. If they cannot handle the volume they should tell you up front to come back another day or have a better management team! Unsatisfied customer!! read more

The staff at the Avon store were really helpful in educating me about the world of low profile performance tires. Jose at the sales desk and three of the garage technicians all weighed in on the problems I was having and what to do about it. It began with the quoted price for one tire. The price quoted was higher than the price I received from the acura dealer where I purchased my car. When I told them they were more than the acura dealer, the price started dropping. I was told it would be a one hour and 15 minute to one hour and 30 minute wait. I decided to have them replace the tire at the negotiated price. After waiting for 1 hour and 45 minutes in a freezing waiting room (no heat), I went to check on my car and found that they hadn't even taken the car in yet. I asked for my money back. The attendent then tried to tell me he told me it would be a 2 hour wait and they were still on track. I told him he didn't say that, that I had an issue with the 1+ hour wait and I wouldn't have had them change the tire if they told me 2 hours. I received a credit for the tire and went to acrua where I can trust the work and the information I am given. I will NEVER do business with this company again. read more
