My husband thought the menu was huge and had so many things we wanted so we decided that we had to order the Whitefish Salad with Rye Bread and a Turkey Reuben. The complimentary added pickles made the meal perfect. Our server, Tyra, was great! She had a great attitude and made sure that we had everything we needed right down to the take home containers for our leftovers since the portions are so big. Everything we ordered was delicious and I was a little skeptical when I looked at the ingedients because it seemed like there was a lot of colorful fillers in the whitefish (and all their salads that are scooped) but it worked to give an added flavor but not over powering the fish flavor. The woman at the counter told me, rather abruptly, that she would only sell me a quarter pound. I explained that I wanted an eighth and that a little over was perfectly fine. Her response was essentially, "I'm only selling a quarter pound." Fortunately, the gentleman slicing the lox simply listened to what I was asking for and took care of me. Thank you to him. To the woman working the register/counter today: customer service matters, especially for a longtime local business where people remember how good the place used to be. A simple request from a paying customer shouldn't turn into an argument over a couple of ounces of lox. I genuinely want to see this place succeed, but if the quality, selection, and customer service continue in this direction, I have a hard time seeing Gourmet Deli House being around much longer.
