My wife and I bought a used Honda CRV at this place that they took in as a trade in. At first the car was fine and then within 2 months everything was starting to break down. The VSA and check engine came on (apparently I need a new Charcoal canister which controls emmissions). The engine oil started to leak. The AC compressor went when I turned it on for the first time. Never even used it before. We later found out that they didn't even fill the car with windshield washer fluid and even coolant. The last two things are a clear sign that they barely checked the car before they listed it for sale. We called and spoke to the Parts and service manager and he said "he would take care of it". We came in later and met with a guy named Joe in the Service Dept. and also met with the Service manager. Again the manager said he would make it right. A couple days later a tech calls and goes over everything that was wrong with the vehicle and tells us what everything costs. I was astonished because the manager said Toyota would handle the repairs for free. Again I spoke with the manager over the phone and listed my grievances. He said the only thing he could do is offer us a $300 credit towards the repairs which was basically nothing considering how much evrything was going to cost. He is a LIAR. Never go there. With everything that is wrong with the car they never should have sold it in the first place. They should have sold it off to auction. read more

I would like to start this review saying the car I bought is a very good car so A+ on the product. Yet the service here is pretty bad. The first issue I faced was an error in the miles advertised versus what the actual miles were for the car. When I tried to negotiate with the salesman he continually stonewalled me although he admitted there was a problem with the miles. In our negotiations I was simply trying to extend the warranty to offset the additional miles on the car since the miles were higher than advertised. An offer of two free oil changes was not what I was looking for I declined the gesture and decided to move forward because the miles were not enough to make the car a bad purchase. Two weeks pass and I am happy with my car, but I was waiting for my permanent license plates. In the dealership I was told upon purchase that it shouldn't take more than 10 days, but after two weeks no plates have arrived. I thought maybe that the Labor Day holiday just slowed things down with the DMV. I logged onto the DMV website to track the paper work and not to my surprise the dealership had not filed the paperwork for me to receive my plates. The plates were set to expire today September 15, 2016; I started calling Tuesday of this week to remedy this problem, no one I spoke with had an answer and would not investigate how to remedy this problem. After 7 calls initiated by me the solution of the dealership was to issue me new temporary plates that last two more weeks until October 4. Not the worse idea but I work in New York City, traveling to Hackensack to deal with this issue and dealing with traffic during rush hour was not high on my to do list since it happened due to their inability to file paperwork. I understand problems arise in doing business but my complaint with Hackensack Toyota is not dealing with issues directly. Instead they rather try these passive gestures to solve problems that really impact your ownership of a car purchased at their dealership. I have some advice for Hackensack Toyota: Be more professional guys, you have good products don't let inattention to details ruin your reputation that is an amateur move and I like to believe you are better than this bad behavior. read more

I had just financed a new car from this Toyota and everything so far has been disappointing. There was bad rain the day I bought my car but I needed to get a new vehicle that day so I had no choice but to go in that weather. Totally was taken advantage of. The drivers side floor was covered with a paper mat and was never told the carpet was totally ripped up (must have been high heels ripping at the carpet from previous owner). Car sales woman showed me a paper telling me full diagnostics were ran on the car just about a week before and everything checked out perfect other than regular maintenance oil change and no need to worry. General manager reached out about my experience and I told him about the carpet. No reply. Not even a month after my getting my car it doesn't start up. Called AAA to either jump or tow my car then right after called Toyota. From the second I was in the phone I got a complete attitude because I called AAA not Toyota road side. Made an appointment with Toyota that day for the car to be serviced which is absolutely ridiculous after hardly even ONE month of getting the car. They legitimately took care of everyone (about 10-14 people) before me and I was the last person waiting. All the other customers waited about an hour, I waited just under 3 hours very patiently and with a small child. Then as I finally got the battery changed (don't know how it took 3 hours) the receptionist was on the phone. I waited quietly and politely and she waved her fingers at me rudely to give her a paper and made a face as if I was such a bother then slammed a pen on the counter for me to sign something after she didn't even say a word to me as to what I was being handed. Im not someone to typically write a review and especially not a bad one or complain about things but I felt the need to say something and warn others to be careful of this business. It's really a shame that people treat others this way for no reason what so ever and that's the part that upsets me so much. read more

We only wanted to test drive and they held my husband's license for ransom until we signed for a car. After I said I will call the police to get his license back, they finally gave it to us. I have never seen such unprofessional and horrible sales people in my life. We bought our Toyota in Caldwell where they are professional. Buyer beware if you are looking for a dealership that provides great customer service, this is not the place to purchase a vehicle. We are from out of state and flew in to pickup a vehicle we purchased from Toyota of Hackensack. Appt was at 1pm, when arrived no one seem to know about us or who to work with. Lots of confusions and long wait time. The truck had damaged that was not disclosed or shown in the pictures, backseat was missing floor boards and we were told they don't come with the vehicle. When we drove off the lot the gas light came on. The dealership offered us a 25.00 gift card to what was suppose to be a local gas station, but turned out they did not have gas and was only a store. After the purchase, which was in MAY, we still do not have the car transferred to our name due to lack of communication from Hackensack. They did not provide details, or followed up with us, on what we needed to complete. We have been calling them leaving voice messages and emails for the last week with ZERO response. We have been dealing with this dealership for many years and Michael was one of the best person in sales they had. After he was gone, we have been suffering a lot lately. I would specifically like to mention Mary Green (Internet Sales), i wanted to buy out Toyota Camry whose lease was over and i wanted to see how much would be the amount every month if i finance it for 4 or 5 years. I contacted them through the chat on their website, called them on their local number and sent email to reach out to them as i wasn't having enough time to go and visit their dealership. Mary first informed me that the vehicle is under my mother in law's name and she should allow this, my mother in law allowed it and confirmed by email and through telephonic conversation, this satisfied Mary's request, then she asked for me to sign the form with my SSN and other details to give me the rate. I did everything possible but in the end, she refused to give me any information saying that i have to visit them. If this was the case, why did you make me waste so much of my time on chat/email/phone/filling out the forms. This is ridiculous, when i asked for the contact details of the management, she simply ignored and didnt provide me any details. Sure Mary and the management of Hackensack Toyota, i would rather take my business else where but to deal with people like you who treat their old committed customers so badly. read more

The worst car dealership on the planet. I will never return to this dealership in my life again. I purchased a vehicle from them last year and was cheated once I arrived at the finance department as the car was substantially more expensive then quoted. I was just told to sign a million pages and somewhere on that was several non discussed expenses. Regardless I went back for regular service on the vehicle. I completed a 15000 mile service and a few days later noticed the airbag lights on. Once I returned the car to diagnose the issue, they insisted I pay $120 as a diagnostic cost. I argued and stated it should be under warranty as its covered under manufacturer warranty. I also received the additional warrant by the finance department. That I didnt even want. They kept my car hostage until I paid the $120. I paid, took the car back and lodged a complaint with Toyota corporate. About a week later I received a call from the service manager willing to give me back my money and apologized for the mistake he made and FINALLY agreed that it was there mistake read more

However after i went there, the black man who was my advisor, comes up with the mechanic and tells me, i need to replace all 4 of my tyres and one of stuff which holds the tyres in front is broken...etc...although i had no issues while driving.....i refused to change my tyres.... then they tell me that they cannot let me drive my car as it is dangerous and i had to replace the fron tyre and fix the stuff that hold the tyre....and they ripped my $750..... he did not even give me any discount although he promised at the begining that he would give 15% off. Worst Dealership Ever! - Stay Away Sales Experience Bought a certified highlander in May and the experience was horrible. I worked with sales guys Socrates and Paul and what a nightmare! These guys were rude and had no sense of customer service. I wanted to move my plate from the old Vehicle to the new one and Socrates completely ridiculed me that CRV and Highlander are different class vehicle and need a new plate. When I went to DMV and asked this question, I was told I can and that the dealership provided me with a wrong information. I paid $300~ for the documentation/title and provided the entire package from my bank. They completely messed that up too. I got the title and my bank was not listed as the Lien holder. I kept calling them and believe me no one answered the phone. Finally I had to tell the receptionist to transfer me to Paul and she did transfer me on his cell phone. The guy said send me all the information and I will check. He disappeared after that. I tried calling again and no answer. Finally I had to shell out $85 and get the bank listed on the title. Service Experience In June I went there as I heard some clicking noise in the steering. They covered it under the 12K warranty. Right after that I started loosing tread on the driver side tires. Probably they messed up the alignment while fixing the issue with the steering and never bothered to correct it. Well, now have uneven tires. I was there again for the service last week for oil change and asked them to rotate my tires and check alignment as I was loosing tread on the left side tires. After the service I asked again about the rotation and alignment and the the advisor confirmed and said no problem found and the pressure in all my tires was 29psi and that the minimum should be 35psi and that they have corrected it. Well that can;t be as I check my tire pressure very often and about 3 days ago I had the air pressure at 37psi. Came back home and noticed that the tires were still at the same location. I thought that the gauge that I am using is bad and checked the pressure again with the same gauge and the pressure was still 37psi. I was surprised! They send you an email asking about the experience and I mentioned this and I am now working with Loui who has called me twice. Once to ask about the problem and second time to tell me that he saw the engineer on the camera in the shop rotating tire. He said that they have a very different way of rotating tires. They do not do criss cross but only move front tires back. I said Why would you do that if I do not have directional tires. I asked for the alignment report and he said that when you bring in the vehicle that guy checks it manually. Really? I asked him to send me the video capture as it will be interesting to see if the tech even inflated my tires. This is the worst experience by far but I guess bad experiences teach you a lot and make you stronger. As they say, "You cheat me once, shame on you. You cheat me twice, shame on me!!!" read more

Beware!!! The advertised price of their used cars is a come-on!!! They advertised a certified used car for $12,500 and when I sat down with the salesman the final invoice came to $16,300. They charged for dealer prep and delivery charges and of course tax and other state charges, but the dealer prep and delivery charges were about $1500. I was able to negotiate them down $600, but I really needed the car now, so I took it anyway. I am sure if I had been prepared to walk out they would have come down even further. I spoke to my Toyota dealer in New York and they said this is illegal in New York, but not in New Jersey. I live in New York and was not aware of this. So be warned - ask what the total cost is before you decide on buying from this dealer!!! read more

Bought a Highlander here and the sale went smooth with Ana. During the sale I traded a BMW which I owned and serviced for 5 Years. I have mixed emotions with this dealer. I felt lowballed with there trade offer on a fully loaded AWD BMW but that was expected, What Im a bit disappointed about was the fact that they would not negotiate there asking price. I noticed some bogus charges during negotiation like $299 for Vin Etching which I did not ask for so it was removed from the negotiation after I questioned it. I also traded in with Valid NJ plates and noticed that they refused to "Transfer" my plates which is a very common practice in dealerships, instead I was told I needed new plates which cost me money and alot of my own personal time. Thanks to this "New Plate" tactic I had to go to my towns court house and get a new parking permit with my new plate ($10), Apply for a new NYC Parking Placard with DOT(4 weeks), contact EZPass, & take my own time to go back to the DMV to return my old yet valid plates. Hmmm that definetly left me with a bad feeling at heart. During the time I waited for my new plate to arrive I had a chance to get to know our Highlander in which had several things wrong for being sold as a "Certified" vehicle. The sunroof tilted but didnt open, the front door hindge was rusted out, the reverse Camera had overspray on it from an obvious paint job (Suspicion of undisclosed collision) the rear hatch wouldnt pop manually, and the front bumper had a stripped plate screw. Its a good thing I purchased the extended warranty with this vehicle because the same day I picked up the "New Plates" I ended up leaving the car in for service. (3 weeks owned) During service there doors are not labeled In/Out for a first timer and the system is not stream lined. I left a 4x4 Highlander in and received a 2014 Carolla that was filthy and has the worst smell in the world!! I just want my Highlander back in "Certified" shape. After a week at the dealer my situation was finally taken care of in a very courteous manner thanks to Mr Latino and Mr Radulic. I appreciate both there professionalism and trust that they delt with a minor communication issue in house. Our Highlander is in "Certified" shape with all the minor mechanical issues resolved. I trust that our next service will be a much more pleasant one after this whole ordeal. I will do business with Toyota of Hackensack again. I refuse to turn my back on a whole business due to two workers miscommunication. read more

Upon first impression I wasn't sure how this was going to go. There was no receptionist and there was no organization as to who to speak to once I got there. But once I was placed with my sales manager Alex, the experience became a different story. He was helpful, professional, but very real. He didn't bullshit, lie, or act like he knew things he didn't, which I appreciate! Even though I was liking at a used Ford he didn't try to sell me in something I didn't want. He just gave his honest opinions and knowledge to help me make my decision. I didn't buy right away, which was actually encouraged by him, to see the other vehicle I had in mind. Even gave me tips on what to look for when seeing other used vehicles, which was welcomed. After viewing the other vehicle and having the exact opposite experience with a local Ford dealer, I chose to go with car at Toyota of Hackensack even without an CPO certification, simply because I just trusted them more, they were upfront with all the costs. Alex didn't try to slip anything by me when we sat down for pricing. The price was exactly what I expected to pay given the sticker price. I was assisted with getting a great rate on insurance by the dealership, and the finance guy Steve was just as helpful and easy to work with. They matched a finance rate I was approved for by another bank. Steve didn't hard sell me on an extended warranty, but explained everything pretty well and gave me time to think and research. Overall I came away with a very good experience and so far, a great car. I would definitely recommend dealing with Alex and Steve at Toyota of Hackensack! read more

I came in for an oil change and ended up being forced to pay $500+. I was basically held hostage there and was told I could NOT get my car since it was already on the lift. They said my car needed an oil pan because it was leaking and that the whole system needed to be changed. I kept telling them that I didn't have the money to pay for this and didn't believe that I had a leak. The agent, Stephanie, DID NOT give me any other options and just kept telling me that I needed to change my oil pan and they could not release my car to me unless this was done. I always come here to get my oil changes from when I've purchased my car here! and have never experienced this kind of service! If this was something that was absolutely needed why was this not detected sooner since I had already been waiting for over TWO HOURS. For her to come tell me that my car was already drained and the process was started already and I had no other choice! She made me feel so helpless and did not give me any other options. read more

My sad experience with this dealership started in June '13. I bought a certified one-year old Venza with 3,000 miles on it. As 'almost new' ! The salesman Alex sang like a bird about a wonderful deal. I DID ask about prior owners/accidents. Alex assured me that one owner and no accidents, CLEAN CARFAX, of course. "They would never certofy a car that had been in an accident!" However he never got around to show me that "clean" carfax report. He was very busy getting me to sign the contract. A week later, that car started with the problems. The key would not lock the doors, windows did not go up or down. I had been in 3 different dealerships in the course of 6 months, until in February '14, a third dealership had opened up the backside of the driver's door only to discover a badly done cover up from an accident, pain job, ripped up insulation, wires hanging loose. Needless to say, since then any of the repairs were no longer covered by the factory warranty. I had to pay up to get my car back, all fixed of course. I went back to Toyota of Hackesack to find out about who is going to reimburse me, since selling a car that had been in an accident and NOT telling the customer about it is illegal. and is covered under NJ Consumer Fraud Act section 58:8-2 . I spent 5 hours in that place, trying to get them to admit that the accident did happen. I finally saw the Carfax report, that , indeed not only showed the accident, but also showed that the one and only owner of that car was...Toyota of Hackensack. It was their loaner; when a customer had an accident, they patched up the car, painted it and put it back on the lot "like new". THEY ABSOLUTELY KNEW about the ACCIDENT and OMMITED that FACT when selling the car to me! paid 30,000 for it plus ALL THEIR FEES and taxes....I wanted to exchange this car for the same one but with truly clean record. Tough luck. They did offer a same model, same year car to me, with 16,000 miles on. But of course they wanted 30K for it, so I would have to give them 3K more! Why? - I asked..That's when they showed me their mechanic's report on what had to be done to the car in their shop in order to certify it. Battery replacement (the car did not start), brake pads replacement (due to originals being worn out below threshold limits), a bunch of other items. I stopped there and asked myself - how is it possible to drive for 16,000 miles and completely wear out the brake pads? They should last at least 30K miles? I refused to buy this one, asked to show me another model. Ooops, sorry. Everything just got sold. No more used Venzas....The last one was sold 20 minutes ago...I had a choice, swallow up and go home or buy a brand new one. I chose to buy the new one. They "generously" offered 27,400 for my car (3K less then what I paid), and charged me 38 K for the new one PLUS all their FEES and TAX, of course!. I left the dealership OWING 12 K more than before! You say I am dumb?!? Seriously dumb for ever setting my foot in this place. Don't make the same mistake I did!!!!! Additional crap they added to the invoice (and let's not forget this is the second time in 6 months I had to buy a car from them!!!!) Ok , Window Etching - 289$ I could not get out of this one!
