TPR is an amazing family restaurant that I have been going to for as long as I can remember! I especially recommend the Penne CBT which has been amazing. Recently, I have been noticing that there have been more dishes added, the food containers seem to have changed material and size, and that some of the dishes have changed. They changed the Penne CBT so that it is Al Dente and it seems to have less sauce on the pasta, which I think should have stayed the same. That is the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. I have lived in Tenafly most of my life and have been going to TPR for 30 years. I was there the other night. They have an informal and formal area to dine. We sat in the formal with the white table cloths. We ordered a couple of pies for the table, salad and mozzarella sticks. Everything came out hot and the salad was very fresh. The menu is extensive. Really disappointed. This was a place I frequented very much in the past. Haven't been there in a while and was very disappointed to find smaller portions. For example the large tpr salad is probably 40% small than it was in the past and more expensive. Probably will be a while before I return for another chance. In the meantime I'll stick with Napoli mania in Hackensack, and can't go wrong with Rudy's in Closter if in the area. I am always very happy with my food from TPR. The other day I picked up a regular pie and a grandma pie (think thin Sicilian if you're unfamiliar, it's a very popular style in NYC). Both disappeared before I got my fair share. Mozzarella sticks where delicious, and they're burger is spot on and large. Very generous portions. Have also had pasta w/ Alfredo, it was spot on delicious. Nice, attentive staff. Definitely worth a visit or try. read more

Went in today to pick-up a couple of sandwiches. Clearly stated outside signage required face mask. Great! Business being responsible. Upon entering they were serving a woman at the counter with no mask in evidence. I asked the people working behind the counter about the requirement for masks. They said yes absolutely. I then asked why were you serving that woman before me without a mask. They stuttered a little bit before saying sorry not everyone is wearing them. This place is good depending on what you get. I usually get their sole francese which comes with artichoke hearts (appreciated) and they will actually make your pasta al dente if you ask. The sole tastes fresh, never fishy. I also love their caramel flan for dessert. Also years ago I used to order their cheese pizza and found it insanely good for some reason. I mean, it's plain pizza, but it was delicious. Not sure if it's still just as good. What a complete and total ripoff this place is! I ordered the ravioli dinner for takeout. I received six, lukewarm small ravioli (poor quality like canned ravioli) in a "sauce" that had the taste and consistency of Campbell's Tomato soup. And a 2" hunk of Italian bread. Total price: $16! It would have been cheaper and just as tasty for me to buy a can of Chef Boyardee and heat it in the microwave! I love TPR! If you want Italian food cooked by real Italians, go to TPR. The owners are very friendly and will quickly remember you. The best waitress at TPR is Joy. She never gets anything wrong, knows what we want each time we eat there and just knows what she's doing. We also love Kelly and Sarah. The food is amazing. Start with a Pasta e Fagioli soup. It's sooo good. All of TPR's pasta is great. My favorites: Rigatoni Bolognese with Ricotta Cheese and Penne a la Vodka. Try the calzone, it is not from this world. The pizza never disappoints. It's exactly what pizza should be like. Thin crust, but not to a point where you still feel hungry after having three slices, and just the perfect amount of sauce and cheese. TPR's Chicken Parm is insane! I love it. If you're trying to go healthy, get grilled chicken with veggies. Their grilled veggie platter is amazing. I could go on and on about how much I love pretty much everything on their menu. The restaurant has a great size. We never came here and didn't get a table. It's the perfect place for everyone. Families, dinner with friends... Even though it's a great neighborhood restaurant, it doesn't look like one. It has lots of comfortable booths to sit in, but doesn't feel like a diner. Tpr is a hidden gem. Its right next to the stop & shop in Tenafly. While the decor is lackluster, the pizza is sooooo good. It's delicious, fresh and simple. The prices are amazing! You can order half sized orders on all their Italian pastas, chicken and seafood without breaking the bank or your diet. They also have a full bar that they should definitely promote more. Maybe have more staff at night, dim the lights a little but all in all the food is great and I really like mom and pop restaurants. I usually order a plain pie, the buffalo hot wings ( the buffalo calamari is also delish) and the apple walnut salad( I'd wish they would use another kind of lettuce tho) They don't deliver but they are on DoorDash. The worst delivery experience I've had. I ordered two Sicilian slices that were hard as a rock when they arrived. I ordered a chicken parm hero and I received a grilled chicken hero with onions and mushrooms?! At least the mozzarella sticks were half decent. Damn, I've had a long experience with TPR, and would prefer to give them only good reviews, as I really like all the counter people. Stopped in for my boring old usual, sliced onion & garlic slices (Yea, yea, I'm unkissable for at least 24 hours), and a Chicken Parm Hero. Pretty simple right? TPR is another joint, where if you want onions on a slice, they use chopped. I always ask what kind do you put on an Italian Hero, they always say sliced, and those are what I get on my pizza (...it's just my idiosyncrasy, deal.) it's common practice for those onions to be sliced on the meat slicer, they're super thin, held in a cold table for sandwiches, and when baked at 500F. on a slice, become translucent, and impart a bitter - sweet onion flavor to the slices. Well they couldn't get it right, but I commend them on thick slicing the onions for my pizza by hand. Here's my real problem. I swear, they either made my Chicken Parm on a stale hero roll, or finished it (melted the cheese) in the friggin' microwave... Have you ever put leftovers in your home microwave, and when they first come out they're OK, (not great, OK) but then start to harden into something you give your dog to strengthen his jaws? That was my Chicken Parm. While I was waiting for my order, I never saw the sandwich go into the Pizza Oven (Traditional) to be finished. Eating out is really becoming a disappointing buzz kill... The original Tenafly Pizza was located where Celebrity Bagels is now, on the other side of the Tenafly Stop & Shop, and operated by 3 brothers from Italy. It's where I learned how to wait tables, fold pizza boxes, and make meat balls. A far cry from today's TPR. I go to TPR a lot, and the experience can be pretty good if you know what you're ordering. The service has been pretty great so far and atmosphere is nice; the prices are very reasonable considering the portions. The food is a little inconsistent though. I get the fried calamari a lot here and around half the time it comes out too tough or greasy. The buffalo wings also come out a little squishy sometimes. The pastas on the other hand are definitely above average. Penne vodka, linguine, fettuccine alfredo, gnocchi are all very good. The pizzas here are good too; I recommend the BBQ chicken pizza--it's the only thing worth getting. Personally, the one thing I avoid here are the seafood and steaks. I once tried the black angus shell steak and it was pretty disappointing and the salmon wasn't worth the money either. Overall, it's an average Italian restaurant. read more

I have been going to TPR for over 25 years. It is classic. It's become my standard - like the way you compare food to the way your mom made it. Seldom do we ever find a veal parm to match TPRs freshness and quality. Not too much breading and it's always crispy and perfect. The sauce is great. The cheese melted deliciously on top is perfect. I see some inconsistent reviews and I don't know why. People must not be ordering the veal/chicken parm because in 25 years they have never let me down. They've upgraded and expanded several times over the years and it seems to me their upgrades always reflect what the community wants. There's a casual, family side, a more quiet dining side. They have a section for parties. They have oversized,comfortable booths. Service is so reliable. Some of the same servers have been there ten years or more. Ordered pizza the other night and guys forgot to put order in and when I arrived 10/15 minutes after order was placed they just started making it in front of me after finding skip on counter. They have never, ever gotten any take out orders I call in correct. I've asked for fresh mushrooms and gotten canned mushrooms (and when I ask them to remake it, yes, it has fresh mushrooms. They have them. Not sure how you mess that up when I specifically say "fresh mushrooms not canned please".) I've asked for spinach in my calzones and gotten ham. I'm really not sure how that mistake was made. They only seem to get the order right when I STAND THERE and STARE AT THEM while they make stuff. Maybe it's the girl who answers the phone but is mysteriously never present at the counter when I go to pick up so I can ask her what the hell is wrong with her hearing aid? Why do I have to babysit them to do their work? The two star is generous. When they remake the food, it's delicious, but NEVER what I ordered the first time... LOVE this place! I grew up on Jersey style pizza, and TPR is my go to place for getting my excellent pizza fix when i'm in town visiting mom. They've been around since the Colosseum of Rome was built, and for good reason. After getting our initial order wrong for a white pie, my husband has to go in the freezing cold to get the correct order. They put so much cheese, on top of cheese, that it was inedible! It was a pool of sloppy, spewing cheese, soggy dough, no crust to see because the entire pie was embedded in all sorts of cheeses. I specifically asked for a little fresh mozzarella along with the usual Ricotta! I did not want pasteurized shredded mozz, only fresh!
