this is not a place that has any food choices i think are good for you. the mexican filipino lumpia i want to try but the smallest order is 8 and my waistline can not afford that the vegetable choices they have are not vegetables really, corn , potato salad, too sweet beans the pork ribs i had last time were good and the Brisket this time is good but again , their sauces is too sweet. Great service and generous portions. I showed up towards closing time my first time there and they told me they only had a meal deal left and it's whatever they have so I couldn't choose what I wanted. She named what they had left and I was ok with it. She also said it would be $45. When I got it it was a foil tray of mixed meats like ribs, brisket, chicken, hot links, burnt end, with steak fried rice on the side. I also got baked beans and chilli cheese beans as a side. To top it off they also gave me free dessert which was banana pudding pie which my wife loved! She said she would go back there just for the dessert if she had to. We got Mac and cheese, a pulled pork sandwich with fries, and a brisket sandwich with fries.... $40 Mac and cheese is penne pasta with some melted cheddar cheese on top. Not good. Brisket sandwich, dry dry dry dry dry Pulled pork sandwich was, bad just bad. The bread was so soaked in grease that I had to swap it for toasted bread from my pantry. Meat was dry so I'm not sure where all the grease came from. Fries were ok, better once reheated in my air fryer. I don't order Togo food to have to come home and re-prepare it. This place is hidden in the cuts but worth the drive for some good barbecue. From the freeway exit N/B 680 it's only one turn right turn a maybe a 2 minute drive. From S/B 680 it may be 5 minutes more if that. It's kind of hidden but there is a big sign you can't miss if you're looking. They have a small parking lot and take orders through the screen door. There is outside seating and tables if you choose to eat there. I placed my order after looking over the menu outside and my food was ready really quick. The 2 way combo was $25 which was understandable and reasonable for the portion sizes and inflation. My only gripe may be on what they consider potato salad which was more like a loaded baked potato. The flavor of the chicken and ribs were delicious. The ribs were tender and neither were burned or over cooked. I also like that they put the barbecue sauce in containers for you to add to your food as you like. The Mac and cheese was pretty good too but could have used a bit more seasoning to it. Let me say first off that this place makes great food. The prices aren't great but overall it's worth it. The only reason I don't rate higher is the way they run their business. They aren't open today, though their Insta account and social media says they are. You can pretty much only walk up to order, ive never once been successful contacting them by phone. A hidden gem in Benicia, closer to the industrial area. They have a wide range of menu items but their speciality is their BBQ meats! Lots of parking in the area. We got the Big Boi plated with smoked tri tip, ribs, chicken and choice of 2 sides. My favorite protein was the ribs, the meat fell right off of the bone! For our sides we picked the beans and corn and it comes with potato salad and a hawaiian roll. The meat was really tender and had a really nice flavor! We also had their special for the day - brisket chili and it was amazing! Filled with hearty meat and tons of flavor, we would definitely get this again! The # listed does not work. I called fir a new # no such listing. I went to website shown and it goes to the previous restaurant on that site. I had high hopes for this place. I bought a Groupon (see below Groupon excerpt) to try this place out. The Groupon said 40 dollars worth of food and drinks. We called to order. No one answered. The phone's voice message was ten months old and said it was closed for a holiday in February. I wanted to order a rack of ribs (30) and a pound of brisket (30). I was told that their Groupon doesn't cover meat by the pound but this was the opposite of what they advertised on Groupon which said " Valid on entire menu" (See end of review for transcript from their Groupon). In order to use the Groupon, I was told to buy FOUR overpriced "plates" (25 dollars for THREE ribs with some corn/beans,etc). BBQ plates cost 25 to 30 dollars each. That's pricey. To use my Groupon, I would have to buy over a hundred dollars worth of food!! That's a rip off. I would never spend that much money on a place I'm just trying out. I was told by BBQ Backyard that they did allow patrons to buy by the pound but changed their policy recently. This business is flaky, changing policies at their whim without notice and using Groupon as a means for cheap and misleading marketing. Yes, businesses often lose money on Groupon but that is the price for marketing. I got a refund from Groupon and went to Kinders. Their ribs are only 25 dollars versus the 30 dollars here. I will never come back to Backyard BBQ. I won't go to a business I can't trust and I certainly don't trust a business that is taking advantage of their unwitting consumers! Had the Mestizo Burger, which is a breakfast croissant sandwich with Longanisa, egg, and cheese. The croissant is crispy and buttery. Overall, very good. I miss this place dearly. When I lived in Vallejo, I would visit this place almost weekly. The tri tip nachos are some of the best nachos I've ever tasted. The smash burgers are also really good. I love the family involvement that makes us this business. Service is also amazing. The location isn't the best. You won't actually stumble onto the place driving. This is not big enough to share between three people but is more of a one person meal! The bbq was good but seemed to lack seasoning it did have a good smoke flavor to it. The smoker is right near where people eat so that's fresh bbq! I would definitely come back to try more of the bbq. We did order the Mexi-Pino Lumpia which was great! Stopped by this hidden bbq gem in the early afternoon and was really happy to see a smoker producing pleasant wood burning smells. I tried the smoked brisket with potato salad, bread, and their mac and cheese. The brisket was sliced and smoked perfectly. No need for BBQ sauce on it! This place is hidden in Benicia. The food was really good. We had the Ube bubble up with chicken and the Mexipino lumpia. It was awesome! The ube bubble up was so good and we love the chicken because it was seasoned with herb, good taste and not salty. Most of the time, fried chicken is salty. The mexipino lumpia was tasty with the mozarella cheese and beef and the dipping sauce. We had a good chat with Doc (the owner), he is really nice.
