A guy sits at the table next to me, within 1 minute the server walks past me, and to him. She talks to him, then walks past me again. Is this because I am a women sitting alone? I got up and left. I am confused on why I was simply invisible to this staff. Very upsetting. Will definitely impact my choice to stay at the W in future business trips. read more

Solid happy hour in the W Seattle. My friend and I came for happy hour after work, as we heard they had garlic fries on the menu. Word! They do indeed have garlic fries, in addition to other bites and drinks on the cheap during happy hour. When you walk into Trace you're immediately greeted by the plush lounge chairs and fireplace. The place had a good amount of people, partaking in happy hour on a weekday; but the place is spacious, so there was plenty of room for us to chill. We ordered the garlic fries, tots, and two cubano sliders. Service was a little spotty since the place was getting crowded as the night went on, but soon after getting our food, service improved. There was an additional server who ended up helping us throughout the night. Garlic fries were what brought us to Trace and the garlic fries are what will have us come back, especially for five bucks on happy hour. You get a huge plate of garlic fries that smell and taste like truffle from the truffle oil, which I'm totes a fan of. Plus, the aioli on the side it came with was a good complement. Although I am not a skinny fries fan, I was with these. Great garlic-y, truffle flavor. Tots were covered in shredded, melted cheese, scallions and came with a red chili sauce. I'm a fan of tots, especially tots with toppings, but it seemed to be an overkill here. The cheesy tots and scallions were fine, but the chili sauce on the side didn't seem to pair well with. It was supposed to add a spicy kick to the tots, but with the cheese and scallions, it was confusing. I actually asked for more of the aioli that came with the fries for the tots, which turned out to be a better fit. The cubano sliders were tasty and I liked them more than I thought I would. The softly-toasted brioche buns had perfect texture, and the melted swiss cheese on the thick cuts of ham added great flavor. I also liked the pickles and mustard with, typical toppings for any classic cubano. On happy hour the cubano sliders are sold individually, so make sure to get enough for your crew...or for yourself! Best part of everything was that all the happy hour prices are less than 10 bucks, so no breaking the budget after a hard day's work. That's how every happy hour should be, don't you think? Arrived at Trace Market around 12:45pm for a late brunch after validating the website stated they serve brunch 7am to 2pm on weekends. Was confused to see the display screen missing any and all breakfast items we had previously seen on the website. Asked the person at the register and they said the website was outdated. A little frustrating but sure, okay, this happens. We ended up ordering the kimchi fried rice and market flatbread off of their lunch menu and had the most underwhelming dining experience in Seattle as far as memory serves. I probably had the most unprofessional experience while dining here. Ate here for a friend's birthday on a Saturday, and surprisingly it wasn't too busy. We came with a party of 12 ish. They also had a bar and a lounging area in the middle next to the dining area, so when I first came in it gave off a nice atmosphere and vibe. When the waitress took our drinks, my boyfriend ordered a shot of Henny along with his friends and when it came out, while drinking almost halfway, my boyfriend noticed something black in his drink. It ended up being a DEAD FLY so he stopped drinking it. We told the server immediately and she did not apologize for it, but instead she gave a face and said that these things happen a lot in Seattle because we're going into Fall. How does a change in season mean flies getting into food/drinks?! How unprofessional. And she didn't even apologize on behalf of the kitchen/bartender. We forgot to take a picture of it because we were so disgusted. It would've been nice if we got the shot of Henny taken off our tab, but the server just gave us a new one. Other than that experience, the food we ordered was okay. I tried ordering pasta on the dinner menu but was told by the server that they ran out of that as well as steak. How does a restaurant run out of a portion of their items from their menu? Especially since their dinner menu was very small and limited. I ended up getting chicken wings as an appetizer as my meal and my boyfriend and I shared the "Wild Caught Sautéed Sockeye Salmon". The salmon dish came with cous-cous, which was our first time having it so it was very different and unusual. The chicken wings were Asian-fusioned and had a distinct taste. Everyone from the table got to try everyone's food and I didn't find anything too good. I've stopped by TRACE for sushi and brunch, and really enjoyed both experiences. The sushi stop was part of a pre-paid sushi crawl that my friend had organized, so it wasn't really a "normal" experience and I didn't actually get to choose anything I tried. The sushi rolls were delicious, though, and they let us try way more sushi than we were expecting for the price. Everybody was VERY happy! I stopped by for brunch several weeks or months later, and we were surprised (again) because the staff decided to give our table a sampler platter of bread and pastries. I believe I had a meat and cheese plate, which was good... but I didn't get to enjoy any of the Brie because they cleaned up the plates while I was away from the table. I guess I could have eaten faster or talked less, but I still wish they wouldn't have assumed that I didn't want to even try the Brie... I love Brie! I was just saving it for last. I don't end up here frequently because I have some other favorite spots in the area (and no longer work downtown), but I've been very happy with most of the experiences and will probably visit TRACE again. read more

The W revamped their street-level restaurant and I like it. To me, the previous one was nice yet a bit too dark lending a subtle dungeon feeling. This new facelift has a neat retro-modern twist giving off a pleasantly lit atmosphere without being "bright". Stopping in for some to-go lunch, I pulled up at the bar, even though no one greeted me wandering in. While I waited for the chicken baguette sandwich with string fries, I decide to phuket and get a cup of sake while I wait. I get the cheapest one, Masumi Mirror of Truth, and although it was the cheapest on the list, that doesn't necessarily equate to "bad" or "lower-end" or "cheap" sake -- this was good stuff. I returned to the office and downed my food. The prices are rather inline for a swanky place in downtown, with good[-conscious?] food and a darn cool vibe. The bartender was ok. I wonder if they have HH? She mentioned the giant, funky aggressively-styled booth up front is actually the DJ booth. Whoa! That must be pretty sick with lasers and lights and stuff firing at all angles. And safety first! Watch your step at the not-so-obvious marked steps at the bar. read more

My friend complained there was not enough cheese however I thought it was the perfect amount. My entree was a pulled pork sandwich with fries. This was jands down one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I have ever eaten! There was an aioli on the buttered, toasted bun that was life changing. We grabbed one last drink and a bite to eat before calling it a night. The bar tender was really friendly. He asked where we were from and recommended some of his favorites. We order a crab melt, two's a pear and huckleberry fizz. Food; melt was good but a little too heavy for a before bedtime snack. I let my significant other eat the sandwich and he enjoyed it very much. Drinks: huckleberry fizz is amazing perfect balance of sweet and tart. It honestly tastes like juice but be careful, they will sneak up on you. Twos a pear was very strong you will really have to like pear go down this drink. I was turned onto Trace by other Yelpers. I wanted something nice and local. I was a little surprised to see that this was actually the restaurant in a hotel, the W to be precise. I looked around a bit from the street to see if it was actually the place I was looking for, but the address matched. Inside, I found the concierge and was led to a table immediately. I noticed there were two bars (I was a wee bit on the intoxicated side, so this could be an error). The decor was great....modern and throwback at the same time. Lots of wood, but lots of metal and big, sweeping pieces. I was charmed instantly. It seemed a little dark, but was bright enough for me to read by. The waitress was extremely friendly and helpful, stopping by often, and helped me make a couple of beer selections when I asked for "something local." A basket of bread was delivered to me, and I was informed that it was all made in-house. The bread was so fabulous, I ate two buckets of it myself. Cracker-crisp breads and salted focaccia...thinking about it even now makes me want to go back for more. I ordered the Pepper and Espresso Spiced Sirloin Steak. With it was a white cheddar potato puree, foraged mushrooms, and charred lemon drizzled asparagus. I ordered my steak well done (I know, horrors!) and, upon arrival, it was done perfectly. It lay on several very deceptively thin streaks of potato, with the asparagus and mushrooms artfully arrayed on the plate. This truly hit the core of aesthetic combined with taste. I enjoyed all of it, and I never usually eat asparagus. Halfway through my dinner, when I noticed the second bar behind me, I approached the bartender Eric. I asked him to make me a specialty cocktail of his choosing and received a whiskey cocktail that was just excellent. He proved to be a pretty good mixologist. I was alone and had three drinks, along with my steak. The bill, with tip, came to about $75. Somewhat higher than, say, McDonalds, but the quality, atmosphere, and social-consciousness (of that whole "Trace the food to its source" thing) were top-notch and well worth the outing. Quench hour AKA happy hour is M-Sat 4-7 & 10-12 and Sun 4-12.. service is decent unlesss they get busy.. then it can be pretty slow. $6 glasses of wine.. and lots of food options.. my late night go to is the Saimin ramen $6.. its very flavorful.. just as predicable as any asian person.. im a noodles girl so i gotta have me some late night ramen.. ive had some of their rolls and those were delicious too - you cannot go wrong there!! trace's quench hour is one of the perks and reasons why i enjoy staying at the W hotel (minus their $50 valet charge ;) they have music and djs too during the weekend and it comes in handy for people watching.. Came here for the first time with a friend for Dine Around Seattle's lunch option. The restaurant/lounge was pretty spacious and modern, and felt classy without the intimidating feel. Service was great; two/three people waited on us and regularly checked up on how we were doing. Their DAS lunch menu seemed like a good value, depending on what you order. I chose the pork miso ramen appetizer, pulled pork sandwich entree, and the opera cake for dessert! I was actually pretty surprised about the portion of the ramen. The noodles were nicely cooked, and I could actually taste the miso in the broth. Definitely my favorite of the three! The sandwich was okay, but the pork was on the dry side and not very flavorful. Dessert was pretty rich and sweet. My friend tried the stiebr farm organic fried egg entree, and I personally wouldn't recommend it. When I first walked in, saw bunch of people sitting around on the lounge drinking. Near the bar area there are few tables where you can actually sit and order food. I was sorta confused on if I am supposed to sit myself or wait for someone to seat me. Well since there were no hosts I assumed it was a sit yourself and someone might come and serve you. Waited about 10 minutes until a server greeted me. I ordered the chicken wings and spicy edamame. Both were actually pretty good. If i based on stars on the food, i would give it 4 stars. Service and wait time 2 stars. The ambiance of the place i would give a 4 stars. This is definitely for people who wants to come for some drinks and snacks. Its hard to find a 1 but this place has earned it. I think the only thing going for TRACE is that they are attached to the W Hotel, but even that isn't good enough. The staff is either moody, pretentious, or shy (i couldn't figure out which one) and the food was just simply awful. First, the menu is just stupid... I realize why there was nobody there. The menu and the food is just NOT good.. I eat a LOT of sushi, and I love hot food, and they often go very well together but not this time, first... For lack of good product, the solution is not to slather everything with pepper oil. My kids ordered the poke tuna. NOT good.. Slathered in pepper oil, NASTY tasting. I ordered something... some roll, which was really nothing more than a california roll with a glob of chimmichri on each one... My son could have made these. The sushi was OK, outside of the $65 OMAKASE, there was no 8 or 10 piece combo with rice.. I also think our waiter was new or maybe embarrased to work there.. Trace is this older W hotel's Living Room bar/lounge (and a restaurant), set a few feet below the main lobby. It has a separate street-level entrance. Nice staff, a substantial bar, with a few lounge tables. The Living Room has a variety of chairs, sofas, loungers, and a large gas fireplace. Definitely a nice place to bring a date to snuggle with. On two separate visits, there was a wide variety of clientele. Hotel guests relaxing with a drink, boys out on the town, couples, dressed-up club girls on the first stop of the night. I tried a couple of late-night HH food items, which were decent but not special (even at the discounted price). There's an early and a late happy hour, and a $6 bargain margarita available at all hours. The place is also one of the few to serve food late in this hotel-heavy area (albeit from a limited menu). Sushi is available until 11pm. A DJ spins several nights a week. Recommended if you're staying in the downtown hotel district and want a bit a posher vibe, or if you're hungry late. read more

We came here for sushi/rolls and sashimi. They were telling us the salmon was the item to try in terms of sashimi. OMG. The salmon was buttery.....wonderful texture and excellent. The rolls were excellent. Our server was excellent and she had a great command of the sushi though she said she wouldn't eat Tako--octopus. (It was very good). Great food, screwy menu--Northwest + Asian + Breakfast. This spot is located in the W and is at least the 3rd restaurant I've been to in this location over about 10 years. The prices are steep for Sushi. Expect to pay $50-60 per person for lunch. read more

During my stay at the W, I came here for happy hour on one of the nights, and was sadly disappointed. The bartender ignored us for a good 15-20 minutes, and after finally getting his attention, we asked what was part of the happy hour menu in terms of drinks, since wines were listed. He told us the wines listed on the menu were included in the happy hour. My cousin and I got Rose and were charged the full price. She then went back up to order more drinks and was told that everything but the Rose was included in the happy hour. Had the edamame that has a nice garlic flavor with a kick, the pork sliders were good but the beef one was a bit dry, and the tater tots with cheese and bacon are tasty but kinda expensive for what you know came from the freezer. Overall it's not the first choice for HH with coworkers, but it's on my bus line on 4th so I won't say no when it's suggested. read more
