    Caprese sandwich

A couple coworkers and I came to Trade to try out their lunch. Service was quick as there was only one other table seated at the time, so not many people were choosing to come to Trade compared to all the other restaurants close by, and I can see why - you just don't see the place unless you go up the escalator, and they have average food with annoying service. Food - not a large menu, but still there were a couple things I would be willing to try, some of it seemed pricy, while others were on par with other restaurants. I ended up going with the caprese melt with fries: Marinated tomato / arugula / mozzarella fresca red onion marmalade / pesto aioli / toasted sourdough The sandwich was large enough for me to have one half there and take the second half home (I actually eat proper portions people!). I thought it tasted pretty good there, but because they put so much marmalade/aioli on the sandwich, it was messy and made for awful soggy leftovers. So it was a partial waste, and I would have appreciated just being able to get a half sandwich for lunch instead, or put less of the spreads on there, since I really did not get a good value for my sandwich. Service, while it was quick, it was also a little annoying. As soon as we got our food, our server checked on us and then asked us how we wanted our checks. She then came by with the checks. Even though it is nice to have a quick lunch in uptown, you also don't want to feel rushed to be pushed out of the place. Also, after she did drop off the checks, I guess she felt her job was done and did not check on us again - so we had to flag her down for our needs. I'm glad we went there, but I probably would not think twice about going there, just better options for lunch.

    GREEN CHILE CHICKEN TORTILLA MELT

Trade is a restaurant/bar located inside the Omni hotel in Charlotte, NC. We decided to give the restaurant a try due to the convenience of being inside the hotel. To start, the seating is either at the bar or tables near the bar. We decided to sit at a table since the bar was full. No one came to take our order after 15 minutes of sitting, so we walked up to the bar and placed our order with the bartender - the wait for the food was 25 minutes more or less. Once we received our food, no one came to ask how our food was or refill our drinks. Service was disappointing. Now, about the food. The food was surprisingly good. We ordered the Green Chile Chicken Tortilla Melt ($13), the Caesar salad with chicken ($16), and the Tryon Street Club with fries on the side ($15). I must say that Tryon Street Club sandwich had great flavor - delicious and extremely filling! The Caesar salad with chicken was light but filling as well. The house made Caesar dressing is what made the salad different from your typical Caesar salad. Last but not least, the chicken tortilla melt was extremely flavorful! We ordered it as an appetizer. It had a unique, delicious flavor with a kick of spice from the jalapeño crema. The tortillas come with a tasty tomato salsa that cools the spiciness down. All in all, good place to eat if you're staying at the Omni hotel and want the convenience of eating at the hotel. However, I wouldn't come here if I wasn't staying at the hotel.

Located inside the Omni Uptown by conference rooms. You can also access it from the mall coming up the escalator. We came to the onmi to go to the roof top bar but they where closed for the season. Bar is open to the public. We came from dinner so we just enjoyed cocktails. Menu is actual well thought out and had a variety of different drink choices. Not many people in the bar as it was a quiet Wednesday evening.

This place is located right in the omni uptown Charlotte lobby. I came here one night because I was staying at omni and didn't want to walk far for food. I came here not expecting much because usually hotel bars/restaurants are overpriced and average at best. Surprisingly this place is within reasonable price $15 bucks for a filling meal. I got their standard burger on the menu and it was well prepared and cooked (I like mine medium), the bun on the burger was very soft, and the fries complemented the burger to perfection :) OH YES they also serve you complimentary wasabi peas/Japanese snacks as you wait for your main entree. Since I stay at the omni for work I will probably drop by here from time to time. enjoy!

It's one…read moreof those comfort foods I don't eat often because it's so rich--but when I see it on a menu, it absolutely catches my attention. That's exactly what drew me to The Southern Pecan in SouthPark. Here in the South, they call it country fried steak, and I'm happy to report this one did not disappoint. I met a colleague there for lunch, and everything about the experience felt easy from the start. The restaurant is located in Phillips Place, a lovely little shopping area that feels a bit polished and upscale--with shops like Orvis, Tory Burch, and even a Restoration Hardware restaurant nearby. They do offer valet parking, which is a nice touch, though honestly parking is easy enough on your own. We had reservations through OpenTable and were seated on the patio, which was absolutely delightful for this time of year in Charlotte. The weather was perfect, the setting was relaxed, and the service started off warm and welcoming right away. Now, the food. The country fried steak was beautifully cooked--crispy on the outside, tender inside, and served with creamy mashed potatoes and gravy that hit all the nostalgic notes from my Texas upbringing. I paired it with a vegetable side (I believe it was broccoli or corn), and it was a classic Southern plate done right. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails, and to finish, we split a praline bread pudding, which felt like the perfect Southern ending to the meal--sweet, comforting, and indulgent without being overwhelming. The staff was friendly and attentive, and one of the things I continue to appreciate about Charlotte is how easy it is to connect with people. We even chatted with diners at nearby tables, which added to that welcoming, community feel that makes dining out here so enjoyable--especially for someone coming from the Bay Area. Prices felt fair for the quality, the setting, and the portion sizes, and overall the experience left a great impression. Bottom line: If you're craving a solid Southern classic like country fried steak--or just want a relaxed patio lunch in a charming part of SouthPark--The Southern Pecan is definitely worth a visit. And as someone happily eating my way through Charlotte and the Southeast, this stop was another reminder that the journey has been a delicious one.
