Where do I start?? Well, first this place is ONE OF A KIND! Back in August, while on vacation, my wife asked me to find a place to get a bite and a drink on the water with a view. After looking around, I located Trader Ed's. We went there not knowing what to expect, we left we a new FAVORITE spot on the Cape! We went back a few more times that week, and before you knew it, the staff knew us by name. Fast forward to the weekend. A couple of months later, we are back on the Cape. We made a beeline to Trader Ed's, walked in a the staff began cheering my wife's name like we never left. We just had the best weekend there. Thanks to John and his staff! You guys rock!

Spent a long weekend in Hyannis and checked out this spot after finding it in one of the Cape guides. I was hoping for a live band, but it was just a DJ on Saturday night. The waterfront scenery was nice, and the vibe was decent. Service was okay. Seating was self-serve, seemed to have plenty of staff, however I got skipped over a few times and had to wave someone down more than once. I ordered the coconut shrimp plate, which was just ok. Nothing spectacular.

Great place , cool waterfront bar & restaurant with awesome views and the friendliest happiest people!! Good times!!

The staff were friendly for a quiet overcast day. I can see this being the place to be during the summer.

This year we came back because of how outstanding last year was. I ordered the chili again, even though I knew it meant I probably wouldn't eat my whole meal. My friend ordered the fish and chips and upgraded to truffle fries. She said it was probably the best fish and chips she's had. Now... for my meal... I am not exaggerating... BEST meal I have EVER had. Ever. I had the cod. Baked. With pesto, and sun-dried tomatoes. Served with roasted potatoes and spinach. So flaky. So tender. Perfectly cooked. The flavor was something straight from heaven. Breaks my heart I'm not local. I'd eat this weekly. All of the staff is always so friendly. A gentleman also checked in... not sure if he's a manager or owner. This is a top notch place. I'll definitely be back.

Food Quality Locals rave about the food -- hearty portions, well‑executed American fare, and seasonal specials that keep things interesting. It's comfort food done right, with enough variety to satisfy everyone at the table. Drinks & Craft Beer The craft beer lineup and drink menu get frequent shoutouts. Whether you're grabbing a pint or pairing something with dinner, the bar program is a clear strength. Ambiance The nautical‑themed, bi‑level space is bright, airy, and inviting. It feels like a modern Cape tavern -- casual enough for a quick bite, polished enough for a night out. Service Friendly, attentive staff who keep things moving even during busy stretches. It's not flawless every time, but the service is reliably good. Overall Portside Tavern is a local favorite for a reason: great food, solid drinks, a comfortable atmosphere, and service that hits the mark. With just a few minor inconsistencies here and there, it lands firmly at four stars -- a dependable Hyannis go‑to. Cheers

What a great find Sue had a coupon for the Cove…read moreWe were pleasantly surprised at the upscale restaurant right near the end of the Main Street in Hyannis The service was superb! Katie was our waitress, and she aimed to please from the wine tasting to make sure we like our choices from the wine list We both selected the fish taco with pineapple salsa with a very nice dressing The unique potato chip fried fish was so fresh We opt for the garlic bread to go with our wine and that too had its special flare I know we both said this is a first but not our last trip to enjoy the food ,service and ambience . Thanks Katie for answering all our many questions and making so many extra trips to the kitchen for us Jackie S

The…read morebluefish pate itself was good, but rather on the salty side, so serving it with salt and vinegar chips made it pretty much inedibly salty (this was taken off the bill when the bartender noticed we didn't eat more than one bite each). My first glass of vinho verde wine was served at room temperature (the second was fine), and the side plate I was given was crusted with dried food residue. I also watched an employee behind the bar wipe her nose with her hand and then continue slicing citrus barehanded. The chicken empanadas were good but not particularly special. We also had one of the small pizzas, which was the best thing of the night, crispy and flavorful (with a little char at the edges, which we like). The decor is a little bananas (different shades of green between the walls, the napkins, the barstools, and the banquettes; five kinds of lighting fixtures; lots of sound and lighting items with exposed, hasty-looking wiring). The bathroom door doesn't really close and lock properly. And the restaurant is really loud, even half full. The writing on the menu, about family members and special recipes, tells me that there's pride here and real care about making a good restaurant. However, without the attention to detail (particularly cleanliness and hygiene!), that's kind of moot. Three stars instead of two here because the pizza was good and the staff obviously care about customers.
