This place looked interesting on Yelp enough for me to have a lunch there with my wife after walking and touring my beloved Ventura and Oxnard. It was pretty crowded the place is not too big hoping for outside seating but they don't have any so it's pretty loud inside. It is literally behind the last units of the Sea Bridge properties. One thing I must say the seats are so comfortable which is a welcome relief for sore butts and backs that usually have tailbones piledrived to oblivion with hard metal seats. These were nice and plushy and looked like living room chairs with cushions they were great! The menu isn't very diverse and bar food like we ended up ordering a bacon burger and standard ceviche to split half and half and half and half. The burger had a thick juicy patty and was pretty tasty; the fries were standard straight from the freezer but crispy. The ceviche fish was very fresh and tasty and a nice lumpy centered portion; however the chips were a borderline disaster semi-stale and not very memorable. They need to change completely so knock a star off. Jefe serving us offered Tapatio I swatted it away like a fly on my food hell no to that stupid fake hot sauce they had a local hot sauce which was pretty good but again the chips were so bad couldn't really do much with it just ate the fish but we were both very full because the burger is so big and juicy. One iced tea and one Modelo and we paid almost 70 bucks with tax n tip so it's not cheap just FYI if anyone cares and it seems like no one does when it comes to food and drinks which is pretty standard. Good to try once but it was a little too constricting in terms of space and no outside seating for me to come back. Not to mention very expensive for bar food. read more

This new restaurant sent me a coupon in the mail so I decided to give it a try for a weekday lunch. I ordered the french toast which goes for $11 along with a fruit topping for an additonal $3. I was very pleasantly surprised, as this french toast was quite delicious and they gave me a very generous portion of 8 half slices. The fruit topping was fresh strawberries and the dish was also topped with powedered sugar and whipped cream. This place is in a very picturesque and quiet location within the Channel Islands harbor. Had the best lunch here at Tradewinds today, it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. A+ atmosphere, service, and food. Once more people find out about this spot I know this place will be packed as it's exactly the kind of restaurant this side of town needed. Tradewinds was easy to find and there are plenty of parking spaces. The signage was easy to spot from the roadway and I liked their front window designs and signs welcoming you in. I was prepared for how adorable and stylish the inside was! The exterior is misleading because when we walked in we loved the decor and ambiance they created. The bar was cool and the vibes were very nice and welcoming. Even the woman's restrooms were cute. Lastly, regarding the restaurant itself I can say it was very clean which is always a plus. They have a great breakfast and lunch menu. A good variety of options to choose from traditional breakfasts. Mexican Inspired dishes, tacos, burgers, salads and appetizers they have a lot! Also a full bar which is a win in my books. We loved our meal. The prices were reasonable for the portion sizes and the food was very tasty. Everything was a 5/5. Presentation was also spot on, you can tell the dishes were made with care. To drink I had a stellar Bloody Mary. It was flavorful and the right amount of spice. Also aside from the usual toppings there was a generous bacon slice on the drink, loved that for me! Food was a home run. My mom loved her German style pancakes and the bacon was crispy. I had some delicious shrimp tacos. I opted for no cabbage which was perfect because it made it easier to eat. There was a generous amount of shrimp and I really like their chipotle cream sauce on the tacos. Onion rings as a side were fun, nice and crispy. Again, we were really impressed with our meal. Lastly, I can say the service is amazing here! Another 5/5 in my books. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with smiles. The service was super attentive and everyone made you feel like a valued customer. Being a newer business, I was impressed with how well trained their staff were and how smoothly our dining experience went. We got to talk to most of the staff here but it was so nice we met the owner Julio and his daughter Jocelyn. Julio told us about the business and it's clear he's very passionate about this place and just wants everyone to have a good experience. I also loved that he is open to feedback - that's a really good owner in my books! Someone who wants to make customers happy and doesn't have an ego, he really values your input. Our server was Monze and she was lovely. She couldn't have been nicer and totally made our experience wonderful. She's a sweetheart and clearly loves what she does because she so badly wanted us to have a nice dining experience and we surely did. First, the Smokey Old Fashion was excellent. Our waiter was prompt and kind. He suggested a few dishes, including the fried chicken which my husband ordered. The chicken was over-cooked and dry. While serving sizes were large, the quality was mediocre at best. I ordered the chicken piccata. It was dry and almost had no flavor. The plate had ample portions of pasta and string beans. Neither were exceptional. I felt compelled to write this review given the large number of exceptional reviews. I don't believe they were warranted. Stopped in during a bike ride and tried the CFS. One of my fav dishes and I can be pretty critical of it. I'll say that this place made a good CFS. Enjoyed the seasonings and homestyle potatoes as well. Good, fast service. Clean, open space with good views. They have tvs to watch games. Great bar if you like drinking. The owner showed me their different menus and let me know of their happy hour M-F. They are open till 9 most days. Took my coworker in for lunch and she had a taco salad and I had the chiliquiles. Now this is a dish new to me and I am on the hunt for a great one. Without the basis of what a great chiliquiles should be I think I have been finding subpar ones. But this one from Tradewinds felt right. I didnt feel like I paid for something and got ripped off. Eggs were cooked perfectly for me. The sauce was amazing. Great flavor with a good subtleties of heat. Green sauce has pork pieces in it. This will be the staple I will judge other chiliquiles by. Great to have a location near the shores that isn't the shores. Aside from HBC the other places I've tried and not been good for me to good back. I will definitely be back for this place. Not very good overall. The service was extremely slow. Someone in my party asked the waitress what was in the mixed vegetables, and she didn't really seem to know which veggies were in there. The tuna melt was okay at best. Edible, but not something I'd crave. Even the free mints were somehow unimpressive. 09/23/2024: On 09/18/24 my wife and I went up to Oxnard, CA to visit my relatives. On Thursday, 09/19/24 we met my nephew and his fiance at a relatively new restaurant; the Tradewinds Cafe and Bar, located at 4308 Tradewinds Drive in Oxnard, with ample free parking. They have an extensive breakfast/lunch menu, including a number of omelettes and a few Mexican style items. I had the chorizo & eggs (which comes with beans & tortillas). My wife had an omelette as did my nephew's fiance, & my nephew had the Chile Verde-Huevos Rancheros. The food was wonderful and the amount of food was more than you would expect. Also, the amount of food you get is more than reasonably priced (see photo). Our server was Alejandrina, who was delightful. She was prompt in serving us and she regularly checked back with us. My wife and I so thoroughly enjoyed the food and atmosphere that we went back for breakfast the next two days (Friday and Saturday). One of the reasons we went back is because the food prices at the high-end hotel we stayed at are so outrageous, and as I said the prices here are very reasonable. On Thursday I had the waffle combo; a waffle, two eggs, bacon and hash browns, all for only $17.00. There was so much food that it was like "Man Vs. Food and food won. My wife had the Bacon, avocado and cheese omelette, with toast which was wonderful. On Friday I had the Nutella crepes with strawberries and my wife had the same omelette again. All I can say is that everything we had was really, really good. I started telling everyone we ran into about this place and would not hesitate to recommend it. We will come back. I know I have said this before on Yelp. I wished they would have a break down on rating the establishments we visit. So if service is 5 Stars and food is only 3.5 stars it would average itself out in the end. Our visit to Tradewinds Cafe was our first and somewhere we will visit again to try more of their creations. For the restaurant interior and vibe it is beautiful with dark high ceilings a nice bar with a beautiful decor. The service was very nice. Our server she did an awesome job even though the kitchen did put potatoes on a plate but at the same time had the fruit that she wanted in its place. She explained some of the dishes and did a great job repeating our order to make sure it was correct. The only thing I would add is it did take a while to get the check in the end. They did get busier and this wasn't a huge deal breaker. For my breakfast I ordered the huevos rancheros with chili Verde with the eggs over medium. The dish itself looked delicious. The eggs were perfectly cooked. The chili verde however needs some attention. It had a great smell but unfortunately the taste fell short. It was bland and lacked any spice. I told the server that it was gringo verde. Lol This came with refried beans that unfortunately tasted like it came straight from the can and was lukewarm at best. I am hoping that the owner reads the real reviews so that they can make the adjustments and correct some of the issues. They have everything they need to be a 5 star restaurant. Went for brunch on Father's Day Weekend. Despite the fact that it was busier than usual; we had the absolute BEST service from our waiter Humberto. He was Prompt, courteous and very polite. His attention to service was exceptional. He recommended a few plates and the cooks did not disappoint. like the food, like the service, prices are very very fair. Love it....But I can't give it 5 stars because it's so loud in there that I can't hear the people I'm sitting with. Even directly across the table from me, I cannot hear them....You can barely even hear your server. I would love to go there more often but it's just too loud. I've spoken to a lot of my neighbors and they all agree. So I know it's not me, my wife, or my daughter who we took there for dinner. Something needs to be done to absorb the sound. We love having this restaurant nearby, we love the people, and the bartenders and the servers and the food and the pricing and the location... Generous portion but easy to manage as a sandwich. Side of fruit was super ripe and fresh. Hubby's Poblano soup was really good as was the turkey sandwich. I took my husband to Tradewinds Café for his 65th birthday party and Julio, the owner, was very accommodating for our reservation of 10 people, and they gave us their private room which was tastefully decorated. Our server was Alexis and the staff was stellar in helping her serve our party. It was nice that they had a sliding door that shuts to this room but is glass (since we were kind of loud) so you don't feel like you're shut in a box. Everyone had smiles on their faces and were happy to be there. I always see this as a sign of a good restaurant when it's well managed. The food was amazing! Their menu is very diverse, and I ordered appetizers for the table which included the chorizo bean dip and chips, the lumpias, and the fresh guac and chips. I had the crab enchiladas, served with rice and beans which was a generous serving and totally scrumptious. Others had the ribeye steak and shrimp, pork chops and mashed potatoes with gravy that looked delicious. (I stole a bite from my neighbor's plate when he wasn't looking.) Someone else had the chicken piccata, and there are so many more items on the menu that were hard to choose from. Not to mention the clam chowder, which is some of the best I've ever had. I can't say much about the desserts because we didn't have any as I brought my own birthday cake for my husband, which I made, and Alexis brought us a cake cutter plates and forks; she even thought of bringing a lighter to light the candles. Don't worry. I gave all of the staff a piece of cake which was cream cheese frosting and chocolate ganache. We ordered coffee drinks to go with our dessert and they came right away so the bar service is amazing. You should try the old-fashioned cocktails because the guys said they were really good and came with a smoked rosemary sprig. Don't miss this gem of a restaurant in our local area.
