Large Texas themed space with a great Texas themed lunch menu that we weren't too late for. My chicken fried steak and green beans was fabulous! My friend equally enjoyed her lunch portion meatloaf. My unsweet tea was nicely brewed and the service was friendly. Price point was on point. There is a separate bar and separate dining party spaces. Great parking with easy access. Bad night at TrailBoss Restaurant. No silverware, no salads by the time the meal arrived. Sides wrong or missing for our guest. We could tell the kitchen was not on their game. Steaks not cooked right and we found hair in the macaroni and cheese. Waitress argued with us that the hair was "seasoning" versus the hair in the food. I think we know the difference. Really wanted this place to be exceptional which it has potential. Unfortunately we never saw a manager and waitress did not convey our concerns. For the money, we would recommend to go elsewhere if this is what it is like. read more

My son took me to trail boss in kerrville . I orderd a blt. Worst blt i ever had. There was one slice of bacon . One slice of tomato cut so thin you could read throw it. Nice remodel of the old Kerrville steakhouse with a well lit, clean and modern ambience. Extensive menu, attentive and friendly servers and fresh ingredients. Our server Josh and his busser were excellent. They frequently stopped by, picking up dirty dishes or straw wrappers and refilling drinks. Josh brought an extra plate for me without being asked. I also thought the prices reflected excellent value for the high quality and impressive quantity served. We aren't big eaters, so we shared a 14oz steak dinner and got an extra salad and veg side. Great salad, very fresh, and I especially love the thick house made blue cheese dressing. The $2.99 side salad is a bargain. Easy check out with a QR code, too. Steak is the way to go. Great beefy flavor and terrific char and grill marks that really give that live fire taste. You can order 3 different levels of seasoning on your steak, too. We ordered moderate and it was perfect. I was hesitant to go based upon reviews but I'm really glad we gave it a chance. My husband's co-workers said they enjoyed it so we went tonight for dinner. We had a 5 minute wait for a party of three. The server I think her name was Kayleigh was with us within a few minutes even though they were fairly busy. She said be patient since she was busy but she had our drinks and appetizers (fried pickles yum!!) out quickly. Our meals followed soon after. We each had top sirloin which was so good and tender. The flavor was amazing. I had onion rings with mine that were perfect! So crisp! My husband had side salad and loaded baked potatoes which were also huge portions and he said delicious. Checking out the place for the first time on my wife's' birthday. We were seated in a booth seat. It was about around 8 pm on a Monday and most of the patrons were clearing out. Took awhile to get seated but the staff were very friendly. Ordered a Lone Star Light bottle and Ranch water with lil tequila. Started off with Truffle Fries and split a medium rare 14oz ribeye steak with moderate seasoning as well as loaded mashed potatoes and a side Ceasar salad. The truffle fries tasted good, the quality of the fries could have been better. The steak came out decent. Not the most flavorful as far as the marbling fat. Decently priced. Felt some of the ends were more well done but overall an adequate steak. The mashed potatoes were very disappointing. We didn't even try to finish them. It was like they forgot butter or they were cold dry crumbly leftovers. For desert we got chocolate lava cake with a scoop of ice cream and bread pudding. Those were very delicious! They even gave a birthday discount for one of them. The place is new so probably still trying to figure out the decor and ambience. No art or anything just taxidermy animals on the wall. Ya gonna be called "Trail Boss" ya gotta give it that theme and ambiance. Add a Chuck Wagon salad bar, put some oddities around like you would see at Texas Roadhouse, Howdy's, or Luckenbach. Get the Cowboys theme going. Put some brands out there. Do a country mural on the bland yellow walls. Give the tables an intimate lighting rather than Ihop type lighting. They'll get there but for now it's a place for an alright meal but nothing to get excited about. Decent price. Friendly staff. Will check in on it later. It's got a lot of potential. read more

I have to tell this story. My wife and I have been here several times and we like the meatloaf. But the portion is so big that we only buy one and split it and go away stuffed. We were there last night and ordered the meatloaf (one order to split) but when it came out, it was a bit burnt. It was disappointing, but we decided not to say anything since we had always had a good experience previously. About 10 minutes into our meal the waiter came back with two large slices of meatloaf - a whole second serving. My wife asked if it was because of the first ones were burnt and the waiter said yes. Apparently the chefs were aware of it but rather than keep us waiting, went ahead and served the burnt meatloaf and then gave us a whole second order. I was blown away. We had not complained, we had not said anything, they could've just let it go. But they didn't! I think it's even more amazing because ours was a tiny order. Just one meatloaf to split and water to drink. It's not like we were part of a big company there. It would've been very easy to just ignore this couple and not worry about it because there were plenty of other people in the restaurant, but they took care of us without us even asking. That shows me integrity and a pride in their product - the food they serve They just want me over (again). And I had to share this amazing story of above and beyond attention, service and pride in the quality of their food. read more

I've eaten lunch at the Trail Boss in Kerrville several times. Every single time, the food has been delicious! The chop steak topped with sautéed onions, mushrooms and peppers with the house made brown gravy is outstanding. I've enjoyed every single side served with my meals. Te green beans and sautéed spinach are perfectly prepared. The green beans are pleasingly snappy and flavorful . The house made mashed potatoes are good old fashioned slightly lumpy and buttery. The quality of the beef is juicy and flavorful. I was very pleased to see that the restaurant has a new lunch menu. I will be ordering the $10.99 chicken fried steak lunch portion next! My dining companions have ordered the onion bleu cheese hamburger which looked juicy and huge. I tried one of the sweet potato fries and I am definitely ordering them soon! They were crispy but not greasy. My friends have raved about the pork chops, the Reuben sandwich and the Primal sandwich. Marissa and Jen have provided excellent service and my water glass was never empty. Don't fail to ask for a basket of homemade rolls with butter! Beware! They are addictive! This is a smaller steak house along Main St so we stopped in for a meal. We were seated right away and our orders came our pretty quick. I had the salmon and it was nice. Food was mediocre at best. Half the dishes from our dinner were sent back; they were either cold, lacking taste, or were cooked past requested doneness. My 10oz rib eye did come out rare as ordered. It did taste good but it wasn't anything I couldn't have done better at home. Loaded mashed potatoes were tasty. And the side salad was good, but very small especially considering what they charged for it ala cart. Two people had the Waygu burger. They were both overcooked but the time it took for it to come out prompted one of them just to eat it as they were starving. The other was sent back after two bites and they did cook a new burger with minus an about a quarter of it cut off. I also felt like the server wasn't listening to us. I ordered the Catena Malbec. She brought it out, and it just didn't seem right. When I got the bill I noticed. She charged me for the other wine. Also, I felt the lighting and ambiance were equivalent to a high school lunch room. Not a pleasant level of light. I tryed the pork chop with sweet potato fries..the pork chop was cooked perfectly!! The whiskey glaze they put on it was very strong. your drink has alcohol that's different. At first glance it's clean and open concept - there's plenty of staff which seemed good. We had a female server. We asked for water and I guess that makes us less likely to tip well in some opinions - but I disagree. I'm a good tipper. And don't judge a book by its cover. She was nice at the beginning then less so throughout.. maybe it was an off day for her. But in public service you got to fake it to make it. I rarely review on service because it doesn't seem fair to make it about one person. So back to actual food. House Salad was fresh enjoyed it so much I asked for another .. it was fresh good. The chicken fried chicken was cooked well but not seasoned well, plain. My husband got chicken fried steak it was good. However we noticed that there was no bread - and when we asked for something it was two tiny rolls which looked strangely like canned dinner rolls that didn't rise. Like two little pucks. So my suggestion is - make Texas toast - it's cheap and fills any plate nicely. That's all I got - we haven't been back yet but I'm thinking about going for a small steak to see how it measures up to Texas road house - but hey - their rolls are heavenly so I make the drive 40 mins easily. read more

First time to try this place. I had the 10oz ribeye, medium rare. The steak was a little thin, but very flavorful and very tender. I had the fully loaded baked potato, and it was full of cheese, sour cream, butter and chives. The young lady who served our meal was cheerful and attentive. My husband got the special Salisbury steak w loaded mashed potatoes. He liked the meal and the Salisbury steak was very flavorful. However, the mashed potatoes were lukewarm. Okay, good things first! The servers and the waiters were so nice and amazing! The food however was rather bad than good. The first time I came I got the Alfredo and it sounded delicious on the menu but when I got it, it was a soup of the Alfredo sauce and some of the noodles were still hard, which I don't know why. They took forever to give us our food, by the way. Then the second time I came I ordered the Cesaer Salad, thinking nothing could go wrong with a salad and I was dead wrong. The chicken was boney and cold, the cheese was just too much of it and the lettuce was drenched in ranch, like almost drowning in ranch. I could barley bring myself to eat anything of that plate.
