The food is decent here, the beer selection excellent and the service is also usually good. However, after a lot of weird and kind of sleazy business decisions over the last few years they have a completely useless reservation system--a very useless and insulting system. We called 12 hours in advance to make a reservation. The reservation system did not accept or deny the request (strike one). Okay maybe it needs some manual input (stupid but at least understandable). We wait through the day and get no communication at all. Finally an hour before our requested time there is still no indication on the website about the reservation status nor is there any communication (strike two). Finally, we call and get a cheerful and initially helpful person who finds our reservation but (and this is only an hour before the time) is completely noncommittal on whether we have a reservation or not. This is insane! If you are busy and somehow we were late getting our reservation in just let us know. If you have a table let us know. We are not asking for any special treatment just let us know what is going on. Then comes an avalanche of poorly executed "service speak"--our reservation (now less than an hour away) is "pending"! We may or we may not get a call or text or carrier pigeon that someday will let us know if maybe we could possibly get a table. Wait . . . Godot . . . Party of 2? We have a reservation for you last night! If you could manage to travel back in time we would gladly serve you yesterday with the full knowledge of having a reservation well past the time you asked for! read more

On weekends when I share the weekend off with my wife, we pack up and just start driving in a direction. Well, one of the directions we chose brought us here, at complete random. We arrived on a Friday night and the patio was full and I didn't even think we would be able to get in due to their reservation list was pretty booked for the evening. Glad I was wrong and the polite staff got us in their for dinner. The inside has a great atmosphere with a ton of DIY features that create such a chill vibe. The menu is colorful and full of fresh ingredients and flavors. The beer is mostly local with a decent selection. Dinner was amazing with nothing we could really criticize. So disappointing. I know the service industry is short staffed but this was terrible. Used to be one of my favorite places to go. Got water right away and then took 15 minutes to get server to come back to take order. Never got any sort of beverage refill while we were there. Food overall was good . Long story short many things were not handle right and we won't be back. Got something we didn't order and was told they don't normally take off bill. We wandered in on a whim, and I am so glad we did! The atmosphere is playful and roomy, and the waitstaff was friendly and welcoming. The menu is well-marked for allergies, which is great for GF gal like me. The beer list was extensive, and my margarita was excellent. I ordered two tacos with a side of chips and guac, which came to $12. The tacos were fantastic -- very fresh and flavorful. Surprisingly delicious!!! We weren't sure about how we'd feel about tatter tots or popcorn on tacos, but so so so yummy! Definitely don't come here if you're looking for authentic Mexican food, but it's so tasty starting with their seasoned popcorn to start, taco combos (I love the shrimp one!), street corn, grilled watermelon, and churros to end the night. Very good Mexican food, located in... WRJ Vermont? This place is pretty bizarre, but in a good way. Themed around adventure sports (skiing, bmx, surfing, Motocross etc) The music is great if you enjoy surf punk, ska punk, that sort of stuff. I do, but I could see it turning some folks off. The bar is a work of art. I don't want to spoil it, you just have to see it to believe it. The staff is professional and friendly. A+ The food is the real star here. Creative takes on Mexican and South American food, though the lense of southern California. The street corn was a real highlight. Tacos were very good, and the carne asada burrito is a beast. Prices are perfectly reasonable, both on the food and drinks. All in all, I'm giving Trail Break an EXTREME 5 stars! A must stop if crossing Vermont! read more

Interesting and entertaining place. Great service and food. Good place for kids as they have TVs with funniest sport videos playing that entertains both kids and adults. Although the food is basically Mexican it's far from ordinary. We had burritos, tacos, fried plantains, nachos and all was delicious. This place has an amazing atmosphere with very cool extreme sport paraphernalia up on the walls including skiing and hiking equipment. The beer menu is extensive with lots on tap. I had the pleasure of eating at TRAIL BREAK over Memorial Weekend with some friends for a birthday celebration. My party was lucky enough to sit at the couches (toward the back corner of the restaurant). The coaches made me feel like I was hanging out in a basement with all my close friends...the ski shots were awesome and I highly recommend. The staff was extremely friendly and easygoing. The location is perfect, as the restaurant is right across the street from River Roost Brewing. Only thing I would change is how spicy the food is....BRING ON ALL THE SPICES!! I WANT THEM ALL!!! I wish I could give more than five stars. This was our first time here and we will DEFINITELY be returning often. The atmosphere was incredible, there were so many gluten free and vegan options (which is so hard to find in the upper valley), we got our appetizer very quickly, and the food was so delicious we spent almost the whole meal just talking about how much we loved it. However, the best part of our experience was our waitress, Aliyah. She was knowledgeable, accommodating, as well as super friendly and nice. She made us laugh and her service was both prompt and efficient. She even took time out to take a photo of our group after she noticed us struggling to take a selfie. We were tired and in need of a fun night out, and we were not disappointed in the least. This was the first of many trips to Trail Break that we will be making in the future. A nice change from the typical Hanover/White River Junction food scene. Staff: Our server was friendly and attentive without being too much - we appreciated it! Wait: A group of three and I came by on a Saturday night (Cinco de Mayo) at 7 pm and only had to wait five minutes, which was awesome. The seating clears up fast and even when there was a long queue later on it moved quickly. Food & Drink: More of a hip, trendy twist on the more classic taco/burrito/salad selection. I tried the carne asada and grilled chicken tacos with a side of chips and guac. The carne asada taco was weirdly salty but the grilled chicken was pretty good. Price point was $11.50 for two tacos and a side - seems normal for the area's prices. In terms of bevvies, I ordered the watermelon margarita and it was delicious with a nice kick ($8). Oh, man, this was a great experience all around. My first visit to Trail Break, and it won't be my last. Fun decor, relaxed, welcoming vibe as soon as you walk in. It was a very busy Saturday night, but all these people can't be wrong, right? Catherine, our server, was outstanding. Friendly, helpful and was upfront about telling us the food might be awhile (really wasn't a bad wait!) After a few great brews, we started with the Smoky, Spicy, Sweet...chips with a variety of dippables...yum! Then we both had blackened fish tacos with sweet potato+chick pea hash...all good! Tried to check out this place and discovered they weren't open for lunch, which seems pretty weird for a taco joint, but whatever. Their website even says it's the place to go when you've earned a lunch beer. I guess they mean you should sit outside the place and drink it. Anyway. Finally went back to try it for dinner... I'd give three stars for the food alone. The tacos are OK... fine, good not great. The tortillas are excellent. The fillings are good, but, like many restaurants these days, they could focus a bit more on nailing the quality of ingredients and preparation and a little less on crafting clever combinations. Unique, inventive twists are nice but where the rubber really meets the road on food is in the quality of the ingredients and cooking, and this place could use a bit of improvement on that end. I get the feeling the folks here really wanted to open a restaurant but didn't have a ton of experience in the industry. But, overall, it's fine. Solid food, just not amazing. Like I said, three stars. Where the place really falls off, though, is the atmosphere and service. The place isn't expensive, but it's not exactly cheap, either. For these moderate prices, I'd like to be served on plates and not metal trays that remind me of a prison cafeteria. But, the service is really quite lacking. There's a bit of an air of hipster indifference among the staff. It's quite slow, which in and of itself isn't the end of the world if the food is worth waiting for and the staff is attentive. They have a big draft beer selection, so it was a great way to try different beers. I've had flights of beer before, but being able to do one at a time for $2-$4 beer was a nice alternative.
