It's really hard to commit to wedding vendors when there are so many to choose from and they are all so great. Trang made the whole process so easy, and it was nice to have so many updated hair and makeup samples on her Instagram. She was happy to answer all my questions in a timely manner. I did my makeup trial with her for my engagement photoshoot. Though this was nearly a year before my wedding, she noted what changes had to be made for my big day. She does both traditional and airbrush (at no additional cost), so she gave me a combo of both at my trial because I said I love that dewy look from airbrush. Finding the right hair and makeup artist ended up being (unexpectedly) a drawn out experience for me, which resulted in me trialing TWO artists before finding Trang. As someone who wears very minimal makeup on a daily basis, and prefers a more natural look even when going out or attending formal events, I was looking for someone who would provide a glowing and glamorous, yet fresh and effortless look for my wedding day. For reference, the first artist I trialed matched my eyeshadow and lipstick to my wedding colors instead of paying attention to what flattered or matched my skin tone. She also added too much bronzer and didn't blend enough so I felt like my face looked too angular and "older", and not soft. The second artist I trialed went the opposite direction and really downplayed my features and made it too natural if that makes sense. Hours after the trial my hair looked limp and uninspired and my makeup looked like something I could have done easily by myself. With Trang, all my anxiety melted away. During the trial, she spent a considerable amount of time listening to what I liked and didn't like, reviewing my inspiration pictures, giving me tips on type of extensions and hair pieces, and even worked patiently with my mom who had her own opinions. She provided the right amount coverage, the colors went well with my skin tone, my eyebrows didn't look too intense (which is a peeve of mine), and my hair held throughout the day. On the wedding day, I felt like a princess! During the touchup, Trang changed my lip color and freshened up my face and hair. She also showed my maid of honor how to add another hair piece later in the night when I did an outfit change to my traditional Chinese dress. (And needless to say, I also loved how she did my maid of honor's hair and makeup!) There is a balance between making it look good for the camera, but also like you don't have so much caked on. Where do I even begin? Trang is phenomenal at her craft, has an amazing energy and is unbelievably easy to work with. On your wedding day, you need to look like the best version of yourself and Trang is the perfect makeup and hair artist who can deliver! I found Trang via Instagram @trangformation when I was browsing different wedding makeup looks and came across one of her brides which I had previously saved. Her makeup style is natural but enhances the beauty of the bride at the same time. I had reviewed other wedding makeup artists but wasn't interested with how some of them either put too much makeup or the look didn't showcase the bride's natural beauty. Trang has the artistic eye and talent to be able to see what suits your face for makeup and hair. She is reasonably priced for her services and doesn't charge extra for airbrush services either. I mostly communicated with Trang via text messages since that was her preferred method of communication and was able to keep in touch with her at any time! Two months before our wedding, I had my makeup and hair trial done on a weekday morning since that worked best for her schedule. She made sure to provide instructions beforehand so that I could prep my hair and face and share with her any inspiration photos I had. When we finally met, she was very sweet and excited to learn more about me and to hear our love story. I shared with her my inspiration photos and mentioned about doing the airbrush look since I heard that it was "in style". Since I would need to have a hairstyle that could fit the traditional Vietnamese ao dai as well as my wedding dress, the hairstyle had to be positioned exactly at the right area on my head so that the Vietnamese hat could fit correctly and my tiara once I switched clothes. She was able to figure out exactly which area that was and we did a practice try with shaking my head up and down so that there wouldn't be any budges with my hair. I knew early on that I wanted to have two makeup and hair looks, one for the wedding ceremony and the other for the wedding reception, which I did have to pay extra for but well worth it. When she was analyzing my hair, she noticed that the second look I wanted for the reception would not match my current hair and that I would need some layers as well as extensions. We decided that I should come back to her for a hair appointment (which is also an extra side charge) but she would be able to cut my hair as well as do my second hair look which I didn't mind. I wanted to be able to see both looks and share with my family what they looked like. Wedding day finally arrived, and I was nervous because I was still running around the house getting things prepped but Trang and her team arrived on time to get everyone ready to go. Trang focused solely on me while her team did the rest of my bridesmaids as well as my mother. Her team made my bridesmaids and mother look so beautiful and they were very friendly as well! Trang made sure to remind me to eat and stay hydrated since it would be a long day and I'm glad that she was looking out for me. When we finished my makeup and hair for my first look, I was stunned by how amazing I looked and even asked her what happened with the airbrush since I didn't hear the machine. She told me that when she was reviewing our trial photos that the airbrush look was not for my skin type and that she had to apply the makeup with just her hands. Her hands must have magic because my skin looked flawless even after I was tearing up during the wedding ceremony. When the afternoon arrived and I needed to do my second look, Trang was not worried at all that I had arrived fashionably late, but we still made good time and finished as quickly as possible. At one point, I was concerned that my husband had a small pimple on his face which was turning red and she applied a quick touch up for him out of my request which I was grateful for. We also booked Trang for my mother in law and they had a great time getting to know one another in the afternoon. I'm so glad to know that Trang knew exactly what would work for my face and made a professional decision to change the makeup look. It worked out much better than I anticipated since you don't have to follow the trend like everyone else but use what works for you. A good lesson to learn and now I know that airbrush is not for me.
