We have been coming to here since they opened. Through the years it has become less and less enjoyable. The chefs are no longer engaging and fun. They talk mostly amongst themselves, on occasion they do ask if you want anything else. The food is ok but the wait to get appetizers from the kitchen is a long wait. Wait staff is ok often have to just have to snag a person to ask for items. The place was a little disheveled, AYCE counter had a smell to it after it was cleaned from previous guest, outside trim of glass countertop cooler was dirty, restroom was a mess. My son and I were eager to try the all-you-can-eat sushi dinner at Trapper's Sushi. Before leaving home, I made a reservation just in case the sushi bar was full, since it's the only place offering the all-you-can-eat option. We arrived around 5pm, and because it wasn't busy, we managed to grab seats at the sushi bar. We immediately ordered appetizers (edamame, Trapper Bites, and Gyoza) that are included in the all-you-can-eat option. In my opinion, the best option out of the three was the deep-fried crab known as the Trapper Bites. For our entrees we ordered a Dragon Roll, Covington Roll and a Volcano Roll to share! (If you are sitting at the sushi bar and both ordering the all-you-can -eat option you can share) The Covington was our favorite roll however it is kinda heavy for sushi. The sushi chefs and our server, Amber, were awesome and very attentivei and fast! Despite finishing everything in just 40 minutes, the atmosphere remained incredibly relaxed and laid-back. We've been coming here since they opened because we live close and love sushi, but after tonight, we don't think we'll be back any time soon. At first, everything was fine--we were seated at the bar for the all-you-can-eat sushi, and our drinks, appetizers, and sushi orders came out quickly. But after that, the service went downhill fast. The sushi chefs and waiters rarely checked in. The chef would only check in every 20 minutes or so, and it would take another 10-15 minutes to get one roll of sushi. The waiters barely came by, only showing up when we needed refills, and they seemed visibly annoyed when I asked for more appetizers. But the worst part? Toward the end of our meal, the waitress finally came by to give us refills and told us--rudely, I might add--that there's a time limit (which is not posted anywhere) and that we were over it. She told us to "finish up for consideration of others," basically implying we were being inconsiderate for eating the sushi we're paying for. It completely ruined the experience. We left right after that, and honestly, it's disappointing because we used to really enjoy this place. If they want to enforce a time limit, they need to make it clear beforehand, not spring it on customers rudely at the end of the meal. read more

We loved the rolls we ordered. The Thriller and Magnificent. We also ordered teriyaki steak and teriyaki salmon dishes. We won't order them again, unless I start body building someday. It was basically just meat and rice. Reminded me of my days working in the supplement industry, listening to someones meal plan of plain meat and plain rice. My salmon was good and I got a ton of salmon, but hubs said his steak was chewy and dry.The miso soup, was probably my least favorite thing. It was odd because miso soup is usually the most consistent tasting thing you can order from a sushi restaurant. We will come again for the rolls, when they have their 3 for 30 happy hour! I was a regular at trapper. I use to go to the trapper in avondale.i would bring friend there are special occasions. One day there was no customer except for the bar. We always get a table, they told me it would be a 20 min wait to be seated. I ask why, they gave me no reason and told me if I don't want to wait I can always go to the other location in surprise. Won't be visiting this Sushi place anymore. I've had too many issues with the service and the atmosphere is poor. I've been a patron of Trapper's Sushi Avondale for 3 years, often visiting once per month. Today's visit took me 25 minutes to get my first roll. My last three visits, I've been told that they will not serve me the roll that I order, the Asparagus roll, because "We don't serve that roll, we can't make it that way for you." Other visits they will serve my roll. Inconsistency is the key here at Trapper's Sushi Avondale. Aside from the inconsistency issues, the sushi chef that resembles discount Post Malone always has a poor attitude and is slow with service speed, often making my other orders incorrectly and making rude comments during the whole dining session. Other staff members have stated that he is crap at his job and customers prefer other chefs. Unfortunately I can no longer recommend Trapper's Sushi Avondale to friends or family. read more

Been here a hand full of times now. 4/5 times the food was amazing! The sushi is very fresh. Lots of varieties to choose from. We haven't done the all you can eat. It's only at the bar sitting areas. 4/5 times I went the service was fantastic. When they are busy the wait gets pretty long for your food. And they forget to bring your order and it comes to you not as fresh. But over all I definitely recommend this place in the west valley for some good sushi! Will be back for sure. read more

It is hard to find a good All You Can Eat Sushi joint on the west side of Phoenix. We stumbled upon this area when looking for a birthday spot to venture out to. A newer spot with a lot to offer. We had the All You Can Eat dinner it runs about $31 a person, which doesn't include any drinks or other extras. It does include all sushi and nigiri as well as unlimited appetizers. This offer is only available at the sushi bar which was no issue for us and I actually tend to like that area better as it's almost like dinner and a show. 4 of us bellied up and loosened our belts as we went to town. You can get one roll at a time and it's all the rolls you want. A lot of times you see AYCE and the rolls are smaller and limited selection...this is not the case. Dragon Rolls, Rainbow Rolls, deep fried, eel sauce you want it they have it! They even have some specialty rolls I hadn't had and were an experience. The chefs were great and engaged in a lot of conversation and good banter. The alcohol selection was slim and they were out of multiple beers that were on the menu. They did have a good saki selection and offer multiple flavors, you can also add flavor to the house saki for $0.50. The only downside I can see is they have a "No Sharing" policy. I get it, but if the group is all doing the All You Can Eat I feel it should be shareable. Not sure how strict they are on it, we didn't really test it or pressure it, but just seems like a weird thing if the whole party is doing it. Loved the people and the food was great! Trapper's has arrived in AZ! I've been to a few Trapper's in Washington state and have always loved their deals and rolls. When I moved to Arizona I searched and searched for good sushi and struggled to find a spot that stood out with quality rolls. Then I got word Trapper's was planning to open in Avondale So of course I had to go and when the day came I drove over and went in. The big question: will this Trapper's be just as good as the ones in Washington? I can assure you it is! The quality of the rolls and the vibes match the stores in WA. I'm so happy to have found my sushi spot! I usually get the Trapper and dabble trying other rolls when I go in. They have a huge variety of rolls and they all are so good! Also check out their all you can eat sushi at the bar. If you want to eat a regrettable amount of sushi this is the place to do it at! Haha Note they also have an outdoor dining area too. Service is always friendly and top notch. I had Dallas and he was great, even asking what my name was. All in all I highly recommend Trapper's! Came in for the all you can eat sushi, which is available at the sushi bar only. Sushi chefs were entertaining and quick friendly service. The sushi rolls were delicious. There are rules to ordering the all you can eat but they make sense. Only one roll at a time and finish the roll or pay extra for what you waste. The servers bring you your drinks and collect the dishes. However if you're just having water and talking with the sushi chef it does feel odd when the server is bringing you the check and collecting the tip. I did hear they tip out a percentage but if you'd like to bring cash for the sushi chefs I'm sure they appreciate it. Do recommend and will return. read more

The food was not good we had high expectations because they have this chain in Seattle and it's always best quality. The food here was not very up to standard. The salmon nigiri was shredded and had bone in it. Everything just has a lot of rice. The new crawfish roll was super bland and had no flavor. We asked the waitress if the crawfish was supposed to be cold and she said yes because it's raw. The crawfish wasn't raw and then we said the crawfish is cooked and she said the chicken? The service was under par and all the menu items were not in stock. They didn't have any strawberry lemonade which was on the menu, nor calamari. Our server kept forgetting about us and took another groups order before ours. He forgot my miso soup and it arrived after we were done with our first appetizer. I wanted sushi with raw fish (as it should be) so I ordered a raw roll but my salmon was cooked all the way through?? When our server came with the manager, the manager said "that's how it is made because it's a fried roll" but.. the roll on the left was not fried? First time here and will definitely be back. Atmosphere is nice, people chatting and at the bar, there was conversation amongst most of the parties without being a shouting fest. Kate was the waitress and Ryan was sushi chef. -Kate was very attentive and since this was my first time explained the menu and the ordering rules. She was very knowledgeable and able to answer all questions I had about ingredients and how items were prepared. -Ryan was also very knowledgeable about each of the rolls. The rolls are all HUGE, this is good and bad. When you are only allowed one roll at a time, it would be easy to fill up on 2 rolls. I asked about half or sampler roll size and was told only the Trump roll comes in a half roll. The Kraken, BLOODY Mary is little price at just shy of $20 but presentation is awesome, tempera jalapeños and onions, a sushi roll, and olives look great, and tasted like a Bloody Mary. STP Roll and MT Rainier were great. Tasted good, balanced flavor. Surf Clam Nigiri was severely unimpressive. I've never seen the clam cut in slices it is always the whole clam. I was highly disappointed in a ball of rice and a thin slice of clam. Seaweed Salad was just seaweed, sesame oil and feed seeds on a bed of cabbage. Very plain and unimpressive, throw some apple or pear chunks, add something to make it better than gas station seaweed salad. Thrill roll was huge and impressive, looked very good. Within first bite was overcome with just jalapeño. There are two jalapeño strips, they could do with just one. Overall, for a AYCE Sushi in Valley area, it's a keeper. read more

I was wary about trying sushi on the SW side of the Valley but I was with my daughter running errands and we decided to give it a try. The saying "Go with Your Gut" is a saying for a reason! Upon walking in the door I noticed a few men at the bar for what I later learned was a designated "All You Can Eat" area. I also noticed a cleaning supply cart in the middle of the dining area and no hostess or staff in the dining room. The two men working at the sushi counter did not acknowledge us so we stood there awkwardly for several minutes. Eventually we were seated at a very small booth. Our legs were bumping into each other during the meal. Since it was just my daughter and myself for lunch we opted out of sitting at the sushi counter for the $25-$39 AYCE deal since we don't eat enough to make the price worth it. When our sushi finally arrived I saw how they could profit from an AYCE service. A WHOLE LOT of rice and very little else. The edamame was basic at best, pretty soggy & flavorless. I ordered a $5 Saturday Special Sake Bomber and it came little more than half full in a small plastic cup with a tiny shot of sake. Our Rainbow Sashimi Roll was mostly rice and the "Trump" roll had too much cream cheese, was covered in some mayo sauce and looked like some sort of a flambé was attempted. It tasted like the bottom of the grill was scraped out and sprinkled over it. After waiting for over 15 minutes after we finished our first two rolls I asked the waitress about our third roll. Apparently it had never been made. I'll count myself as lucky. Lastly, what I assume was the shift manager was either arguing with someone on the phone while walking through the dining area or standing 5 feet from our table complaining to the waitress about a previous customer who apparently had complaints about her experience. Wouldn't come back, I ordered the Trappy's dinner and the sashimi was cut very thin and didn't taste fresh. The nigiri rice tasted dry. The salad was just a bowl of chopped cucumbers, soy sauce and sesame seeds. They also don't have fresh wasabi! The worst thing was ordering a saki bomb and getting one shot of saki and a pour of 4 ounces of beer... for $9. I bit deceiving since a saki bomb is usually a bottle of beer and a saki tower. It's a better bang for your buck to buy saki and a draft beer separate - which is what we asked the waitress to do. She stated it probably wouldn't be possible to take the bombs off our order cause the managers left but it ended up happening. She seemed bothered to do this for us.
