I was wary about trying sushi on the SW side of the Valley but I was with my daughter running errands and we decided to give it a try. The saying "Go with Your Gut" is a saying for a reason! Upon walking in the door I noticed a few men at the bar for what I later learned was a designated "All You Can Eat" area. I also noticed a cleaning supply cart in the middle of the dining area and no hostess or staff in the dining room. The two men working at the sushi counter did not acknowledge us so we stood there awkwardly for several minutes. Eventually we were seated at a very small booth. Our legs were bumping into each other during the meal. Since it was just my daughter and myself for lunch we opted out of sitting at the sushi counter for the $25-$39 AYCE deal since we don't eat enough to make the price worth it. When our sushi finally arrived I saw how they could profit from an AYCE service. A WHOLE LOT of rice and very little else. The edamame was basic at best, pretty soggy & flavorless. I ordered a $5 Saturday Special Sake Bomber and it came little more than half full in a small plastic cup with a tiny shot of sake. Our Rainbow Sashimi Roll was mostly rice and the "Trump" roll had too much cream cheese, was covered in some mayo sauce and looked like some sort of a flambé was attempted. It tasted like the bottom of the grill was scraped out and sprinkled over it. After waiting for over 15 minutes after we finished our first two rolls I asked the waitress about our third roll. Apparently it had never been made. I'll count myself as lucky. Lastly, what I assume was the shift manager was either arguing with someone on the phone while walking through the dining area or standing 5 feet from our table complaining to the waitress about a previous customer who apparently had complaints about her experience. Wouldn't come back, I ordered the Trappy's dinner and the sashimi was cut very thin and didn't taste fresh. The nigiri rice tasted dry. The salad was just a bowl of chopped cucumbers, soy sauce and sesame seeds. They also don't have fresh wasabi! The worst thing was ordering a saki bomb and getting one shot of saki and a pour of 4 ounces of beer... for $9. I bit deceiving since a saki bomb is usually a bottle of beer and a saki tower. It's a better bang for your buck to buy saki and a draft beer separate - which is what we asked the waitress to do. She stated it probably wouldn't be possible to take the bombs off our order cause the managers left but it ended up happening. She seemed bothered to do this for us. Stepped in with my husband for lunch since we received a coupon for buy-one-get-one free roll. The server was very pleasant and suggested the pineapple coconut crusher since I like drinks that were on the sweet side and upsold me for the double. The drink was extremely sour and acidic and for me was undrinkable was left fairly full at the restaurant. I ordered a California roll and asked what other role was most like a shrimp tempura roll, the waiter suggested the andromeda roll. I asked if it was spicy and he said it was not. The California roll was served with lump/stick meat which is my least favorite way to prepare "krab", did not eat. The andromeda roll was completely smothered in a very sweet sauce that even after wiping most of it off left the roll completely drenched. We ordered calamari as well and my husband was completely off put by the whole little body being intact (did not take leftovers home). I packed both rolls to go hoping someone else might want it but spent almost $55 on lunch and was hungry and dissatisfied. Server was nice and I probably ordered wrong but I rarely convince my husband to go to sushi with me and this will probably be my last visit to Trapper. I have allergies to shellfish and they were able to accommodate me. My husband and daughter love the endless Buffay basically that they have. It's just a great place for sushi. Not too bad for a chain restaurant. If you are hungry and need food, and are hungry for unlimited food, try this place. All you can eat sushi, at SUSHI BAR ONLY, NO WASTE and NO SHARING. Around 35 a head for dinner. My friend and I both got a buffet dinner ... Bryan was sushi dealer... lol we also had a server which handled our appetizers and drinks. Bryan was different, yet friendly and kept wanting us to order rolls which I really liked! We had multiple rolls off the menu but my guest and I enjoyed the "Trump" the mostest! Shrimp, salmon and cream cheese... how could you go wrong? The sashimi was good, however I made the mistake of only eating the fish and got called out that I couldn't waste the rice. I get it, it's part of the buffet agreement. I took two stars because the young lady server kept forgetting my appetizers, my friends miso soup never came out. We don't complain anymore at establishments because I don't want my food spit on, or mishandled. First time at Trapper's Sushi. I arrived at 11:15 on a Thursday and there were two other tables: one in a booth and one at the all-you-can-eat bar. Brooks greeted me immediately and offered a table, booth or AYCE bar. I chose a table. He was very pleasant and gave me my options for drinks. I ordered an iced tea along with a 'pick-two' selection. I got the Buddha roll and the Willis roll. The ambiance was eclectic, with aqua decor, bright lighting, hip hop music and stylish steel tables. My lunch arrived in 10 mins. The rolls had eight pieces each and plentiful. The cilantro on the Willis was a bit tired but otherwise the rolls looked appealing. The Buddha was a bit sweet for me but the crunchy tempura inside was a nice touch. The Willis was even better. The crab and sriracha mayo played well together. In all, my lunch came in at a thrifty $21.50 plus tip. I'll be back for another go someday. It was a 1/2 hour drive for me. read more

Worst Experience I've ever had at a Sushi restaurant. The service was terrible and slow. There were 2 waitresses on duty when I went who were more concerned about their gossip than providing any service to any of their customers. The Sushi Chef took 20-30min to prepare each roll and he got our order wrong 3 different times and offered us someone else roll to try and correct their mistake. Everyone at the all you can eat bar were visibly frustrated as we weren't the only ones having a terrible experience. This experience was made even worse when the waitresses were able to order and receive sushi rolls before any of the customers could. These 2 waitresses then proceeded to eat their sushi rolls on duty while they gossiped at the end of the bar no less than 3 feet from the All You Can Eat Bar. The Chefs were more concerned with trying to flirt with the waitresses than make food and could be heard complaining about customers. As I asked for the check, I was asked how my experience was, and I responded by telling my server it was terrible. My server laughed and said "yeah we get that ALOT" I would give ZERO stars if possible read more

This is hands down the place to go for sushi. We've been eating at Trappers since it was called Sushi Town in Bonney Lake WA, 15 years ago. This location is as good as any that they operate in Washington State. The fish is always fresh and the rolls are delicious. It's an all you can eat and it is worth every penny! I highly recommend sitting at the bar if you can because the sushi chefs are some of the funniest and most personable people there are. I also think the all you can eat sushi price is well worth the sushi you can end up putting down. Especially if you're like me and like to challenge yourself a little bit to make sure you get that moneys worth. His rolls were coming out amazing and looked very presentable & well put together! The waitress and workers were all awesome super nice attitudes! Big fan of trappers sushi if you like real fish. i'm surprised how many stars this place has. most of their food either has cream cheese or fried tempura. the dishes that didn't have either of these things is loaded with sauce. the first order i had was an assortment of nigiri and i was impressed by the thick slices of fish and i thought to myself, oh this is gonna be good but as i continued to order nigiri, the slices of fish got thinner and thinner! the service was very slow for there only being 4 other tables at the restaurant. maybe they're slow on purpose, i'm not sure but if you're looking for a sushi place that takes the japanese out of it, here you go. this place is gentrified, they don't know what they're doing over there. they didn't even know what ikura is. the menu has the teeniest tiniest selection of nigiri. read more

More Chipotle than sit down feel - but still opted for a sit down. The options are a bit different than traditional sushi houses and so that may or may not meet your fancy. But. While sitting I read their pledge of making you feel welcomed and remembering your name by the end of the meal. That was not the case for the wife and myself. So much that my wife remarked a few times it was as if our server was waiting for us to leave. Odd that I'd read the mission statement and told her the opposite was to be their case. Needless to say. They often forget drinks or appetizers, also there's usually a long wait time for the bar. The worst is when you're waiting and everyone at the bar is not eating and sitting in front of their phones. I came here from a recommendation by a coworker. I decided to try their sushi combo. 7 Sashimi and a special roll with miso soup, normally they also give cucumber salad but they didn't have any. My sashimi was not that bad some pieces was super thin and some were thick so definitely different style personally other places give me a bit thicker slices so was a bit weird seeing some thin slices. Overall the sashimi was good. For the specialty roll I got two choices and I chose the first forget it's name but it had tempura shrimp and spicy crab inside and on top eel and jalapeño and I think teriyaki sauce and a spicy pepper. I enjoyed it total for all this was about 26. My daughter just got a crunchy California I believe which she enjoyed. I will say most of their rolls are not your usual rolls. And their is definitely a lot of fish eggs in some of them. Overall my bill was 40-50 dollars and I may give this place another shot during happy hour read more

Our goto date night spot. My hubby gets the bistek steak and shrimp tempura + a side of sweet chili. I always I get sushi. The seafood is fresh and the rice is super fresh. The rolls haven't fallen apart (which I hate because it usually means the mix is off or the sushi chef doesn't press it correctly or the rice is too hot) I appreciate the upbeat servers , they truly make the dinning experience superb! The way they do the all you can eat is one item at a time and when I went it was pretty much one chef for everyone at the bar and it was a full bar. It took about 30 min to get my first item which was 3 nigiri and then about another 30 to get one roll. I was limited on time but I think the only ordering one item at a time works better if you have multiple chefs for the bar. Maybe it was just the day and time I went. The nigiri I felt had too much rice. The seared tuna was good otherwise. I was only able to get one roll and it was the trump roll. It was really good and flavorful! Finally made it to Trapper's and came in for their all you can eat lunch special ($22). I had an incredibly enjoyable experience. The chefs behind the counter were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. I let them know it was my first time so they started me off with two of their favorites. The server, Whitney, was also very polite and attentive. It appears that everyone here enjoys coming to work and they have a good time with one another. One of the chefs appeared to have come to this location from a Trapper's up in Washington - I think that says a lot about the company. The rolls were great. Very different from what I'm used to, but I enjoyed them. I tried four different ones - Mt Ranier, Mountain, Timmy and Warrior. All were very good - Mt Ranier was probably my favorite, but the Timmy was super unique so I would recommend that as well. I will absolutely come back. It sounds like people from all over the valley are making the trek to this location - they have a devout following and I have a feeling it's not solely for the sushi, but also the friendly experience. read more

We moved from the Seattle area to Phoenix in 2015. The sushi in Phoenix just does not compare to sushi in Washington state and Trappers was the best of them all up there. Years back we used to go to the first spot. Sushi Town in Bonney Lake, WA. Then the Covington shop and Kent Station. Of course when I heard Trapper's was opening in Avondale it made my day! Well Sunday night soft opening made my month! The fish and seafood is from the same supplier as the WA locations. The soft opening was busy but the staff is really on top of things. Brooks was our waiter and he kept up with all our requests with a smile behind his mask and a joke or two. Jason, Trapper's brother, is running the place which means standards will be high. My only hesitation with writing a review is I don't want the place to get too crowded I am sure we will be in often and can't wait for all you can eat on days, daily specials, and happy hour to start! This place was amazing!! One of my friends recommended and I was so glad she did. We came on a Monday which was a great day to go with the deal they have going on. We got three special rolls for only $27! And they had so many choices to choose from. I was in heaven! They also have some great happy hour deals. I really hate leaving bad reviews but it wasn't a pleasant experience . We were in town for a baseball tournament and based on the reviews we decided to try it out . The wait wasn't bad our server was nice but it was frustrating that he was the only one taking orders . I noticed a lot of the other ppl were frustrated too . They weren't doing all you can eat and only taking phone orders as we were the last party they took in . It was only 8 and there weren't many ppl and even then it took almost 3 hours to get served . By the time we got our food we weee past hungry and ready to go home . They were apologetic but I feel that it wasn't their fault and just understaffed . All you can eat is ONLY @ BAR. Chicken teriyaki with tempura onions. This is chicken teriyaki pictured & it is dark meat only. They do not have a white meat breast option. This is heavily salted chicken, the rice is also heavily salted. The tempura consists of two green onions and one white onion and one other vegetable. The salad is made with Romain lettuce LOL (Italian lettuce). This should be served with iceberg of course & it is heavily loaded w/ dressing that is also not consistent with Japanese dining. The dressing is very much like vinegar vs a tasty miso or ginger, sesame or peanut even. We requested all you can eat and waited approximately 25-30 mins they told us we could not have all you can eat unless we sat at the bar. We ordered three rolls and they all came out on 1 plate and they gave us 2 small plates for each person. There were insect bait traps at the entry & also in the bathrooms. Kind of not appetizing. The server was very apologetic & i felt bad for her. Possibly the owner came over in the beginning & said she wld comp us a roll "Next Time." You decide if that's a good idea. Service is pretty slow during lunch with a half empty restaurant and our waitress was repeating back our orders and got 2/3 of them wrong. I thought she was entering them right in front of us on her little machine. But I guess not? The tempura veggies are weird.. it was a mushroom, not a good tasting one. It had this weird white powder in the center. I thought it was cheese but it wasn't. The other veggies were dry green onions and I think one small zucchini stick.
