Started off as a good experience. We were greeted right away by a gentleman who sat us immediately. He brought out warm chips and good salsa. He took our drink and food order and off he went. Our food came out quick and hot. My husband and I shared a chicken, steak, shrimp fajita combo with rice & beans. There was a generous amount of sour cream and guacamole. There could have been a little more pico de gallo, but I am sure we could have requested more. My favorite was the chicken. It was moist and flavorful. The shrimp was next. It was well seasoned. A tad over cooked, but still nice. The steak was just okay. The quality of beef didn't seem great or perhaps it was reheated. But I would pass on the beef and shrimp and stick with the chicken. Beans and rice were really good. The cadillac margarita was good, although the plastic mug was hard to drink from because the rim was so thick. The biggest fault of our visit was the sever disappearing after dropping off the food. He never did come back. Not sure if he went on break or what, but we just waited for an unnecessary amount of time until we flagged down a female waitress for the bill and a to go box. There was no good bye or thank you when we left. It's just like our $40 check was not appreciated. This is the 4th Mexican restaurant I've gone to in the area, and it's unfortunate their service lacked, because the food was not bad. Okay, it is in a mall (Pony Mall) how good could it be? I judge restaurants by my favorite dish for its type. Mexican in this case. Ordered the lengus (beef tounge) tacos and a side of whole beans and Spanish rice. Wish I had taken a pic. The lenqua tacos were fabulous, tied for first pkacebin OR. The side dish was a full meal! We were shopping in the mall and got hungry, so we decided to have lunch. It can be a gamble when trying a new place. Boy, the gamble paid off! The flavors were amazing, especially the chili verde! Pros: Very clean dining room area (except the menus were a bit dirty), kids meals were affordable, most adult meal prices were okay and tasted pretty good, food was not too greasy, large burrito, and they kept the waters filled. _________ Cons: There was hardly any beans & rice with any of the combo meals, so some of us were not satisfied. Kids said the beans tasted a little weird, but I thought they were fine... not great but fine. They charged $1.25 to add onion on a taco! That's a bit ridiculous, and they didn't say anything about an up-charge, so it was a disappointing surprise on the bill. Finally, its not a huge deal but it's a bit strange that the staff has never been very friendly and don't really seem happy at all. I Should have read the reviews. This was just bad. I ordered a wet carnitas burrito. The "wet" was so incredibly bland. Seriously could have been tomato juice. The carnitas were really just braised pork. None of the little crispy bits or onion, or flavor for that matter that make it carnitas. Also the burrito was rolled in such a way that I had all meat at one end and all the rice, beans, ect at the other. How can you enjoy that? My partner had a breakfast burrito which was good but not "Mexican " in any way. The red salsa was hot but that was all, no flavor. The green salsa was bland too. It's a shame because the ingredients were obviously fresh and location was good. I wouldn't bother if you actually like Mexican food. read more

So I timed today's service: Walking through front door greeted and seated : 10 seconds Before I could reset my timer had water, chips and salsa in front of me. Looked over the menu even tho I knew what I wanted. Start timer and close menu, 37 seconds, and the waiter asked what I want. He leaves timer starts for my order. It's semi busy for lunch. Yea...not going to pick apart ever dish we ordered. They were all the same. I (we) did not like the food at all. It is not real Mexican, very watered down and VERY EXPENSIVE for what you get. 6 people and we spent almost $100.00 with no alcohol. For $100.00 bucks in other areas we could have fed 10 to 15 people with great MEXICAN Food. The decor was traditional and neat...but I dont eat decor! It is shameful that there is not more concern for the culture and PRIDE of their countrys food. It is either Authentic Mexican or it is American (Oregon) Mexican...this falls into the last category and not very high up on that weak scale. Just know...the pricing is ridiculous for what you get! Any quality Asada burrito completely decked out (avacado, cheese, with minimal fillers of rice and beans) " with" a side of rice and beans is only 6 to 7 bucks in Arizona, Nevada, California and Texas. At this place, "WHY" would I want a side of rice and beans when 2/3rds of my burrito was stuffed with it? I have never paid $10.00 and up for a burrito in any state. But it is SOP here in the Coos Bay area. Boy do these Hispanic establishments have people fooled on meal costs! By the way...Asada is not stew meat boiled with carrots and onions...it is seasoned grilled or BBQ'd...my meat was stew meat, stringy, bland and was stuck in my teeth till I got home where I could floss. Yuck! Mexico is a foreign Country but it is still attached to the USA. Mexican food isn't complex like French or even from a Country in a different continent...it is readily available, simple to make, and in the afore mentioned States simple cheap filling food that has a Fantastic home cooked vibe and great flavor. Something you can order on any corner or small mom and pop shop. A place this size with all the resources should have knocked it out of the park...but sadly they didnt even get a piece of the ball. Los Dos Amigos is located in the Pony Village mall in North Bend. Located on the far West part of the mall. My wife and I love THIS los dos amigos. The one in Eugene we RARELY go to, is nothing like the one in North Bend. The LDA in North Bend serves much larger portions than you would normally see. Prices are VERY reasonable. Drinks are made strong and rather authentico. They've expanded the dining areas for larger parties. We even had our wedding rehearsal dinner party there. They served about 15 of us and were on top of their game. Everyone there was happy and loved it. Some might be discouraged cuz of the location, but dont be. I like it the best out of all other mexican restaurants on the coast. read more

Decided to stop by for the first time and got a few different things. Both the chicken and beef were well-seasoned and tender in our dishes, and the guacamole was very tasty. We asked for hotter salsa and they brought (what we think was) habañero salsa, which was great. My complaint would be that I love pico de gallo and you must order that on the side for $3.50. On my lunch for work, I placed an order to go for 3 carne asada tacos and double refried beans. The guy said no problem and said it would be done in 10 minutes. GREAT! I thought that was fast! When I went to go pick I was greeted quickly and told them I was there to pick up a to go order. I repeated what I ordered and the guy at the counter said there was rice and beans. I said no I ordered double refried beans. and he gave no response and a blank stare. I said whatever I need to get back to work so I paid for the meal and proceeded to head back to work. when I got to my desk at work and opened up my meal, there was rice and beans... not even refried beans like I asked for! then I thought maybe the tacos will be good and make up for no refried beans. The food is as good as all the other area Los Dos Amigos restaurants. The plating is also finely done, but the fact that they don't give you refried beans for dip along with salsa was a huge disappointment. If you want a fancy or elegant meal, look elsewhere. If you simple mexican food and quickly, this is the place. The meal starts off everytime with fresh tortilla chips and salsa. The salsa is a bit mild for my taste but I understand they have to go for lowest common denominator. As for the entrees, there is not much I have not tried and it is all good. My personal favorites are the tamales, chile relleno, carne asada, and pork carnitas. The only gripe I have is the beans and rice. First, I don't like rice. Their rice is especially flavorless. Been here twice since my return, and it's consistently just ok. Good margaritas, and I appreciate that they have a separate vegetarian section in their menu. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, they equate "vegetarian" with "no flavor or seasoning of any kind". The veg menu is pretty much varying versions of beans/tomatoes/lettuce/cheese/tortilla without sauce or flavoring options. I'm fairly certain they don't even put salt on the beans. The last time we ate at Los Dos Amigos, my son found a foreign object in his taco salad. Despite the restaurant being nearly empty, it took almost five minutes to flag someone down. The waiter took one look and said, "eh, that's a piece of the scrubby sponge from washing dishes" like it was no big deal. They didn't offer to comp his meal, and didn't offer to make him a new taco salad until my husband requested one. The location sucks. The mall closes at 6, so if you want dinner, you have to go through an empty mall. And don't try to use the automatic doors, because you'll look like an idiot waving your hand around trying to get them to open -- the doors are turned off at 6. And yes, you have to walk down a weird little hallway into the mall to go to the bathroom, which is probably quite handy for doing the ol' dine & dash. We've been going to Los Dos Amigos for years and have watched the service steadily decline, while the portions shrunk and prices increased. We won't be coming back. read more

We have eaten here pretty much since it opened. It is good basic Mexican food, and they are fast. We have never had a long wait for food and we have consistently had good service. Los Dos Amigos has a large menu with large portions. The atmosphere is nice, especially for being in a mall. The place is usually busy and the waitstaff is attentive and wonderful. They are always very gracious and accomodating. We have been going there since it opened around 20 years ago. When out of town guests show up they always request a visit to LDA. My husband loves the Nacho's, Chimi's and Carne Asado Burrito's....My personal favorite is the Chicken Fajita Burrito's. As others have noted, this restaurant is tucked away in the pony village mall. Now perhaps this review is skewed because I've only had one thing on the menu, but it's SO hit the spot that I don't yet feel any need to explore further. My go to is the chimichanga special with shredded beef. For $8 you get a nice flour tortilla with lots of great real shredded beef and cheese, sour cream, guac, rice 'n beans. Unlike others I think their beans and rice are excellent. The beans are kinda beefy, much better than the bland canned refrieds, and the texture of the rice is nice, great complement to the chimi. The chips are always crispy fresh and warm and I like their wimpy salsa. I'm sure if you wanted heat you could ask... The staff has always been courteous and quick. The plates are HOT, a major plus and a sign of professionalism to me, they're using a real oven to give a heat boost and melt before the final garnish, not a microwave. The portions are ample, hits the spot! REAL food, I'm pretty sure nothing is coming out of the freezer, a rarity in this town. read more

We had been to this restaurant several times and enjoyed the chile relleno, so we stopped in for lunch today. They must have a new cook. The relleno was inedible. It was obvious that this is how it was prepared. The cook beat up some eggs and put them on the grill, put a pepper stuffed with cheese in the middle of the eggs, folded the eggs around the pepper and threw it on the plate! It looked like an omelette, not a relleno and tasted terrible. Service was bad, as well. Server dropped the hot plates on our table, splashing some of our plates contents onto our clothing, never once came back to see how our food was, even when plates were cleared with these huge piles of scrambled egg on them. Went at lunch time and asked if they had gluten free items and the first person said they would find out. After a long wait I asked a second person and they said they would ask. No response. The third person (our waiter) said he didn't know what gluten was. My son ordered the fajitas from the lunch menu. When the bill came they charged the dinner price. When I asked them about it, they said that my son pointed to the dinner one. My son had the menu closed when he placed his order. We were still charged for the dinner price.
