I went into Tribes for the first time today. Their iced coffee is delicious. The barista was so welcoming and friendly. They have an extensive food menu....I'll definitely get something to eat next time. They have bright, colorful art hanging all over the walls. I loved checking everything out while I waited for my drink. This is a solid place to hang out on the patio and draw or journal or read. I will definitely come back. read more

One of the best coffee shop/dinners in Santa Fe. The food is delish with a large variety to chose from, serving up huge portions. I always get enough to take half home for dinner! Wonderful staff. They do have busy hours where it does take some time to get your food or beverage but a busy establishment means they are GOOD. I totally think they are worth the wait. I'm never disappointed with their service or product. Thank you Tribes for being there and providing consistency during a crazy time in the world. I highly recommend their food and coffee. Ordered Breakfast through Uber eats and delivery was awesome. Ordered the Tribes Benedict which was very delicious. Had also ordered the Breakfast Burrito with red and green Chile and turkey sausage. If you like red Chile with a lot of spices added, then this Chile is right for you. I personally do not like all the spices in NM red Chile, tasted like a lot of pepper and oregano had been added to powdered Chile? Burrito was delicious and green Chile good but it was missing the garnish. I may order from here again but hold the red. read more

No. The baristas seemed perfectly competent, and polite enough. However, with no one ahead of me, and two baristas behind the counter, I waited approximately two minutes before even being greeted. Not a glance, not a hi, not a nothing. The closest barista was mere feet away but preparing a blended beverage, gave zero eye contact. I went up to get more half and half, and when I came across a third person behind the counter, speaking with what I believe was a French accent, she didn't bother to say a word. She was AT THE COUNTER chatting with a gentleman about something, casually, and wholly unrelated to coffee. Had the gall to turn around and look at the baristas to see if they were helping me. They were busy. It appears the lady with the accent was possibly the owner, as the two baristas were obviously nervous. Then, the kicker: REFILLING THE HALF AND HALF instead of filling a new thermos. The thermos was crusty, and had obviously spent hours in the ambient temperature. Never. Ever. Do. That. EVER. Like, ever! You'll kill someone. And lighten up and be more jovial. Especially you, Madame Croque. This was a meh experience during my first visit to Santa Fe. read more

If you want eggs Benedict, be sure to request that they toast the English muffin, otherwise it's served raw, totally weird. Poor food and the worst service. Yesterday, during a not-crowded time, I had to wait 55 MINUTES for a breakfast burrito. Not once did the servers offer to check for me, and only after I wanted a refund did they say, "oh the cook is working on it now". It still took twenty more minutes. Once they brought the food (takeout order), they didn't even offer a mea culpa or apology for the astronomical delay. And to top it off? It was the single worst breakfast burrito I've ever had in Santa Fe. I had been here once before to order coffee and a bagel to go - and had forgotten that the bagel took over 30min to arrive. I like the fact that this place is likely owned and run, and that its business didn't seem to have been negatively impacted by the Starbucks that opened across the street. The food is solidly good, although I can only vouch for the portobello pesto sandwich on ciabatta and Moroccan lentil soup, since those are the two things that I always order here. I see people eating their salads frequently, so those are probably good, too. The espresso drinks are fine, the same quality prior are used to from most chains. There is also a good selection of standard loose teas. The ambience is chill and there's free wifi. It's definitely a place locals go to get work done or meet up with friends. I would give it a better rating, but the prices seem high, and service is sometimes slow. read more

Extensive Southwest food menu, with vegetarian options. All their baked goods--cookies, cake, scones, pie--you name it--are baked there. The chocolate chip cookies are utterly addictive. Also, the best lox and bagel in Santa Fe bar none. My only caveat? I'm not a fan of pumpernickel and when I see dark rye, I figure it will have any overwhelming taste. This, in fact, is very mild. Almost too mild, like it is plain white bread with food coloring. It does have a nice texture. Soft and moist, even with the eventual heating. Wifi seems to work. All is well! Not sure if I'd go out of my way to come back, but I would eat here again if I were going to movie across the parking lot. On Monday 1/2/12, three of us went to get coffee and a milkshake for my mother. Had to be chocolate. Since we were going to the movies, and Tribes shares their parking lot, we ventured in. I'd been there before and had the hummus platter and it was yummy. So after we get all settled in I bring the shake to my mom. She sipped it and made a face. I tasted it and I figured he'd given us the wrong cup. It was like an icy. I spoke to the guy and simply said that we had ordered a chocolate shake. We then had this weird exchange where he insisted it was a chocolate shake. I showed him the contents of the cup. He didn't see anything wrong with it. I asked him to tell me exactly how he prepared it. He produced a jug of generic chocolate milk, showed it to me, then said he poured it into the blender and filled it up with ice. That's it. Cheap chocolate milk and blended ice. That is their milkshake. I started to explain that milkshakes have ice-cream as a basic components. And that it was the ice cream that made it worth the price. I got nowhere with him. He said that that is how he was instructed We just got up and left. As far as I am concerned, if you don't even know the ingredients for a milkshake, forget it. read more

No coffee because he was cleaning the machine, which should be done after hours since it's a coffee shop and that's what people come in for. I'm really torn on this one. This is a good choice if you are looking for breakfast that's more substantial than a pastry. They have quite a selection of breakfast meals - burritos, quiche, etc. - to choose from. However, I I opted to stop here early in the morning because I saw on Yelp that they also serve lunch. I needed a lunch for later in the day. I informed the cook that I needed my sandwich to go, for later in the day. When I finally unwrapped my sandwich, I was pretty disappointed. The ciabatta bread was dry and, while there was plenty of turkey, they didn't use anything to moisten the bread. They also didn't include anything, like mayo or mustard, so basically all I was forced to eat was dry bread and turkey. Not appetizing at all. So basically my lunch consisted of turkey. The other thing was that maybe I was just there too early but the staff seemed a little put off to have to serve folks after they just opened. (I know, right?) Local coffee spots have stiff competition these days and while I try to support them, it's hard to come back when I don't get that same happy feeling like I get from the staff at the nearby Starbuck's. I arrived at 5:30 on a Saturday and the back door was locked, place looked deserted. Front door was open, however and there were a few pp inside. BTW, the sign said they are open til 9 pm on Saturdays... So, the "cook" was moving and cleaning the mats you stand on at the grill and when (IF) he washed his hands before preparing my food it was a perfunctory 5 seconds of rubbing under the water. I know I should have left; woulda shoulda coulda... I was told by the counter guy that they closed at 6, the doors were locked after I came in, and he was sweeping and then handling stuff at the barista counter w/o washing. Close to where I roam, bright open atmosphere, staff is always friendly to me, I come here to use wi-fi and have hot cocoa. Today I ordered the bagels and lox, which was very good, bit on the expensive side at $8.60, but it was a rare splurge. Prices here are a bit high, $4 for a large hot cocoa, when I can go to SF Baking Co. and get the same for $2. A mix of people come here, making it fun to people watch. I recommend this away from downtown cafe, for the lox, and relaxing atmosphere. read more

Can they be any slower? Unless you have thirty minutes to wait for a cup of coffee, don't bother. One person takes your order, takes your money, then makes the coffee one cup at a time. Recently was there for a meeting. It took forty-five minutes for all of us to get our orders. Coffee is not any better than Starbucks and takes three times as long. I have been to many locally owned coffee shops and none have such poor service. These people are only in business because they are on the Southside, and people who won't go to Starbucks also don't want drive to Midtown. The food, coffee, and baristas are great here. But this business gets only one star because the owner is an incredibly rude person with no customer service. It honestly seems to me that she hates people, which is not a good quality to have if you are a business that is open to the public. My husband and I are new to town, and we visited here once and enjoyed the coffee and pastries; we decided to visit again the next day - our mistake. The owner was here, I could visibly see the barista's nervousness at her being present. We asked to have our coffee put in a reusable cup (you know, to save a cup from the trash... not a crime against humanity) but the owner was very rudely opposed to us using the cup because it was from another coffee chain. We had already ordered when she let us know we couldn't use our cup, and reinforced how distasteful she thought we were being. We left we'll never go back. read more

It is pleasantly decorated and there is plenty of seating and room to work on your computer, etc. It is a normal local coffeeshop in an area of town that has few non-chain food options. I am not sure why there are such venomous reviews posted about Tribes. Perhaps the brewed coffee is not good here, but if you are a coffee snob, you should not drink brewed.
