I came to Trinethra Indian Supermarket right after eating spicy noodles soup next door. I wanted something to cool my palate. My sister wanted some Pista Kulfi (Indian ice cream). But I wanted some Desi Dahi (plain yogurt). It was late and near their closing time. I didn't want to get rushed out. So, I started scanning of the store. Just a quick browsing, I already determined I need to spent more time shopping here for real. But my time to the Bay Area was short. I couldn't really indulge myself with all of those yummy food. I would need to come back on a different time. The cashier was very polite, somewhat knowledgeable. I believe this young man had a long day. Trinethra just lost a customer today who buys groceries worth hundreds every two weeks. Their poor service and completely incapable staff to support a genuine complain is simply unacceptable. Context: I bought a box of good looking (from outside) Alphansos worth $50 and the same very day I decided to eat few of them. To my disappointment not one, two but 5 mangoes turned out to be rotten from inside. I went back hoping they would have similar customer support as other bay area grocery chains but I was AGAIN disappointed for their lack of cooperation. I have been coming here since 2017 specifically for one thing and one thing only. Samosa. I am very particular about how I like them, but the way they are prepared here is just absolutely perfect. Fair warning, my review is only for the samosa here. The rest of the place is probably closer to 2-3 out of 5 stars based off of experiences with staff here. Anyway, the spice level, potato texture, exterior shell, and flavor profile is amazing in regards to the samosa. If you are looking for the right samosa, I invite you to come here. Stopped by here to check out their groceries selection. Bananas were fresh but expensive- over $3 per pound! Very few curry selection. Only the yellow curry powder. There is no fresh mango lassi. They have the one that comes premade in a container that tastes like sugar water. Samosas are decent priced at $0.99 each. Downgrade is that they don't provide chutney sauce. How can we eat this food without sauce?? The cash register lady was not friendly at all when I asked questions about their products. She looked like I was bothering her. Been shopping here for many years now. Our preferred Indian grocery store in the Bay Area compared to all the other stores here. Love their fresh vegetables and produce. For that alone, we drive farther to buy from them than some of the larger stores in the Bay Area. Nobody else comes close to the quality and freshness of produce. They have cut veggies during the weekend which are a huge time saver. The samosas and puffs are warm and tasty as well as their snacks collection. Fraudulent Selling practices This is the only store in the bay area I have seen that doesn't have prices on all their vegetables displayed along with the produce. The prices are either missing or are not updated and the people at the counter don't seem to care. When you complain, mention the prices get updated daily. So what?? I have never seen a retail store in business mention that they don't know how to display retail prices on everyday groceries. This is fraudulent selling tactics taking a consumer by surprise by deliberately hiding prices I don't mind paying extra but would like to be informed of the cost and not be surprised every time I take an item to the counter. A very good Indian grocery shop. You will find the fresh vegetables and almost everything you need for Indian cooking. The best part is they cut and give you the fresh coconuts :). I hit this place several weeks back for some naan and pre-made dosa mix as I keep trying to experiment and badly fail at making anything resembling a masala dosa. I really don't know why I spend $8.00 for the mix to make something I can buy freshly made and much tastier at a nearby South Indian chaat joint for $6.99. I think this was my last try so I will not be returning to Tinethra anytime soon. A very good Desi store with wide isles, great selection and helpful customer service. If you are hungry, they have an in-house food service, their samosas are REALLY good, like India good. Lots of organic choices, home goods and beauty needs too. India Cash and Carry could learn something from this market, for sure. Love the customer service and the attitudes are good. Great friendly kids work here. Love their positive and can-help attitude, unlike perennially scowling desi staff (what's UP with that?!) at other Indian groceries. They insist upon carrying 20lb flour and rice bags to my car and get this - they SMILE while doing so! If you go to Indian groceries as often as I do, you understand why that'd be a biggie. But if you don't, spare yourself the confusion as to why you were mistreated. It's not you, it *was* them. So go here instead. Prices are fair, they are albeit a smaller size, but they carry so many Organic grains, it makes me go here more often than to the ghastly India-trash-n-carry (in another review). I don't think I've ever given more 2 stars for any Indian grocery store. For one, it's always crowded with people walking around with carts through the narrow aisles. Two, the staff is very unfriendly. This Indian grocery store was a big surprise. It wasn't as crowded as I expected to me and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The store doesn't carry an overly vast varieties of Indian groceries, but carries all the basic stuff one would need. I had been going to the big name chain Indian grocery stores for some time so I have a good comparison. This is definitely better than its former owner (a big name) and even better than the largest chain stores. They carry more spices and a much larger variety of S. Indian flours and especially the Periyar brand powder mixes and spices. This is the one to buy if you don't want to grind and roast your own. (I had asked the big chain to get this brand over and over for three months but instead they only bought the lower quality brands). This one also does not have long lines and crowded isles which the large chains stores do.. I have no difficulty cooking both N and S Indian dishes and I suggest using the powder mixes over the ready-made batters that the previous reviewer tried unsuccessfully.. You need the right pan as well. read more

I have been shopping at this location for years, long before it became Tri-Nethra. Today, I pointed to the owner that they were keeping a product called "Hunter beef (masala)" close to the Puja items, which is a strict no-no for Hindus. The owner became defensive, and finally quite rude saying "we have customers who want exactly that product", then (angrily) "why are you arguing" etc. And then turned away. The ironic thing is that establishments like Tri-Nethra rely on the Hindu community for their sustainance, yet think nothing of disrespecting Hindu sentiments. A more reasonable reply would have been "I understand your concerns, and I will try to either not stock this product, or move it away from the Puja items." But instead the owner spoke very rudely and angrily with a concerned customer. I would wonder if he would have taken such liberties had the customer instead been of another faith. It seems that Tri Nethra thinks Hindus can be disrespected without consequences. I won't be going there again. It is one thing to do something unawares, it is quite another to rudely tell a Hindu customer that their religious sentiments don't count there. That is certainly the owner's prerogative, just as it is the prerogative of any HIndu to not go to such establishments. read more

As a passerby visit, this is the 1st and also the last visit. I was amazed to see the price labels by the first glance and felt I found a right place to shop for grocery. Yet, along with the browsing, I noticed so many items were misplaced or mislabeled. For instance, the yellow cauliflower had two price labels, one says "$0.99 each", another says "$1.19 each" . In order to confirm which one was correct, I asked a store employee for help, and she verified that the "$0.99" label was right. You know what?! After checking out and left the store, I took a look at the receipt and was shocked to see none of the items showed the correct or labeled prices! The price of the cauliflower shows "$2.49 each"! This is unbelievable and unacceptable. The only warning here is that you'd always to be careful about their misleading price labels, or you'll be ripped off! read more

They used to have fresh cut veggies and fresh snacks and food. I think their standard is going down though. I regularly buy fresh (supposedly ) rotis from here.
