I hired Joel to photograph my son's wedding reception. I had explained ahead of time that the event…read morewas in a banquet room with low lighting and lots of bright colors, and that it was important to me that he capture photos of our family as well as all the guests. In that respect, Joel did a very good job. He photographed the newlyweds, the guests, and the performances thoroughly, and he worked quietly and unobtrusively throughout the evening. However, there were very few pictures of our family. I wished he had focused on getting more family pictures. The reason I am giving a 4-star review rather than 5 is due to a lack of clarity around post-processing. It was not communicated beforehand that the photos would be largely unedited. While the lighting was adjusted, many images ended up overexposed, and there were several distracting background elements--such as podiums, backpacks, and visible wires--that I had expected would be edited out. When I asked about this, I was told that additional editing would cost extra. There was also a lot of emphasis on a complimentary drone photo of the entire party, which unfortunately was not feasible since the event was indoors. I wish the focus had instead been on clearly explaining what level of editing was included and taking more family pictures. Overall, if you are looking for someone to efficiently cover an event and capture everyone present, Joel does a solid job. If you want more detailed editing or a specific finished look, I would strongly recommend clarifying those expectations in advance. I read many Yelp reviews before hiring him and did not see this mentioned, so I felt it was important to share.

We booked Jim about 9 months before our April wedding after seeing photos from another wedding we…read moreattended as guests. We immediately loved how natural everything looked. The photos felt candid and real instead of overly posed or staged, and we found out Jim was the photographer. That ended up being exactly our experience too. My husband and I are both pretty awkward in front of a camera and really did not want to spend the entire day posing, but Jim was somehow able to get amazing photos while still letting everything feel relaxed and natural. Nothing felt forced. He was also super flexible with what we wanted while still being really organized about family photos and any specific shots we cared about. The whole process felt very easy and low stress. Also, the turnaround time was insanely fast. We got our previews and full gallery back way quicker than we expected. Not sure if we just got lucky being earlier in wedding season lol, but it was such a nice surprise right after the wedding. Viewing those pictures, my wife and I just loved the angles and composition of Jim's photos and knew that Jim would be hard to beat. Something I didn't realize before I got married was how much time you spend with your photographer on your wedding day. I think I probably spend more time with them than I did with my actual wife and groomsmen. Having say that, I was glad that Jim and Ryan were my photographers. They were really cool, funny guys to chat with throughout the wedding and you can tell they were passionate about getting the best photos they can get out of my wife and me. I appreciate they were always want to try out new poses, new angles, and new props so that the pictures stand out. Jim was also a great photographer for our families as he knows Chinese and was able to give out great instructions even to my family members who didn't speak the best English. It was pretty funny too when we weren't quite sure what we were doing during the Chinese tea ceremony and Jim was able to step in and give us some instructions. We got our wedding photos a month after our wedding date and we were not disappointed. Jim's selection of curated photos that he touched up were all amazing and were all worthy to be set as wallpapers on our phones.
